Before launching a Twitter storm, which I think could be quite successful, wanted to share the idea with all of you.
The idea is TOTALLY inspired by HZ’s post of earlier today (see here)
All of the companies that provide advertising $$ to hatemonger Rush’s (and others) broadcast radio/TV should be challenged to channel those $$ to support, across the USA, the types of events/services for our troops that HZ outlined. They’d get enormous advert exposure – for something overwhelmingly positive – and they would be infusing their $$ into actions and not just hate-filled sound waves.
The tweets are rather simple and could easily become ‘viral’ – along the lines of “”USA – Tell ALL sponsors on @ClearChannel of #Rush to funnel their $$ to support #USATHANKStheTROOPS inspired by http://tinyurl.com/7b4h39f“”
And, it would be reasonable to contact Sandra Fluke and ask her if she would be supportive of the effort.
What do you think?
This is something a site with now more than 8 million hits should launch because you’d want as much immediate impact and sustained effort as possible.

I love this picture. I believe this was a celebration of Womens month in 2010 and FLOTUS was teasing PBO about speaking before him and how she loves it because he has to stand there and look at her adoringly. And he showed everyone how adoringly he loves looking at her.

Chips, thanks for the video of PBO’s speech at the conservation conference. I went looking for it earlier at the white house site and at the Interior dept. site and could not find it. As usual you are the hostess with the mostess. I really enjoy watching the interaction between K. S. and PBO. When I think that a few short years ago they were 99 and 100 in the Senate and now to see where they are, I think again with joy and pride, “only in America.”

Bob, your idea is nothing short of brilliant. I’m totally in and I think we should promote it on Facebook and contact our local county leaders. This could be such a positive boost to local morale as well as tons of goodwill for businesses. It also models the philosophy that love is more powerful than hate. There could be nothing more fitting to counteract the poison filled words of creeps like that racist judge in Montana, the putrid Rush, or the misogynist Republicans in Congress than to fill our communities with love and thanks for our returning military. Thank you, Bob, for leading the way.
Is there any way to put HZ’s post into a format that would allow us to click it onto Facebook with a “share” button? This may seem like a stupid question from a technological clutz, but it would be easier for people to pick up and run with that way.
It occurs to me that Hz & Bobfr’s ideas fit quite nicely into FLOTUS &V-FLOTUS’ Joining Forces initiatives, and could be marketed as such in tweets because that is what they would really be. Marketing them that way could also help In seeking support from local businesses. The very practical suggestions HZ gave as examples would IMO definitely give Joining Forces a more local touch more quickly, and would be far more meaningful in a lasting way than any parade. I dare also say that participating Americans would feel a greater sense of satisfaction for their involvement than they feel from standing by the side of the road screaming and waving for a morning or afternoon.

Heaton now has a show called “The Middle” on ABC. I don’t watch it. Prefer Modern Family. Christy said she’s since deleted the tweets but I hope people keep complaining to ABC. The backlash she must have gotten must be why she deleted the offensive tweets but more needs to be done.

I watch The Middle. Its pretty good. Its not her that makes the show good though, its the kids. Especially the girl and the youngest boy. Spent the last 2 days driving home to Illinois from Florida. Yesterday’s drive was a total nightmare, weather and driving conditions from hell—-rain pounding the car, raining so hard wipers were a joke, dark as night mid-day, huge weird clouds looking like they could throw a tornado down any minute, foggy, truck-spraying conditions, tree-bending winds——–and then!—-we finally make it to Chgo expressway and the rain turns into a blizzard! A blizzard! Roads ice packed and 6 lanes of traffic at a halt, made an early exit and were going to try to meander our way home, but there were accidents and power lines down everywhere, roads closed everywhere, ambulances and fire trucks trying to get by, miles and miles of people trying to get home or go somewhere on a Friday night and it was impossible to go anywhere, cops blocking intersections. After hours of this, we finally made it home by a real circuitous route going 5 mph. The whole day was unbelievable, but I guess we were fortunate as I see on the news multiple devastating tornadoes hit in the exact areas we were driving—–northern Ky. and southern In. So——very happy to be home and to get back in Obama re-election mode.

Sure you can. There are no questions asked about where you’re from in PA. Just get a bunch of voter registration forms from a local Democratic Party office or a PA OFA office and you’re on your way., It takes about five minutes to learn how to help someone fill out a form.

Bob’s idea is great. I have a special affinity for those types of things, maybe because my son is career Army.
Also, I, for one, am glad to see the administration using visuals, such as the chart on domestic oil production. They are simple and straightforward. Yes, you can rely too much on charts and graphs, but used wisely, they can have an impact. My guess would be that 90% of Americans think we import most of our oil, which is why the RW’s “drill, baby, drill” mantra has such resonance. Getting this out there helps combat that.

Bad news! The Volt has stopped production, because of poor Sales.

I have a Hybrid Escape, it costs 28k new, I paid 25k in 2007.

It was me, 57. I am always getting into a discussion on FB with a conservative who constantly insists he is a moderate. He is someone I’ve known (and even had in class) since he was a young teen. He is now a LT. Col. in the Air Force; was raised VERY middle-class, actually borderline lower middle class. However, now he has the attitude of “I’ve got mine and screw everyone else.” He married a young woman whom he met in the AF, then she got out because of a disability (back and somewhat questionable) if you get my drift. She gets money every month for that. His father-in-law is retired AF…high rank. Every discussion we get in it is a running thread of Fox or Luntz talking points or “both sides do it” or brings up Clinton or some other past Dem. After a long discussion Thursday night and some things he said, I realized he does have some racism in his thoughts, in many areas he is EXTREME right-wing–but remember he says he is moderate. lol I also now know that NOTHING, no fact I could put in front of him would change his mind. He insists he is open-minded and I’m not; that I am the one spreading hate. He is convinced PO is leading the country in the total wrong direction. He doesn’t agree/approve of ANYTHING the President does. Spreads links about how PO is destroying the military, cutting the budget, taking things away from the military, etc. etc. The last thing he brought up was hypocrisy and mentioned Clinton. That’s why I want to compile a LONG list of these hypocrites. I’m writing down everything this family gives me so keep it coming.

I have a question concerning the the use of hormonal contraception and its myriad health uses: Where is the medical profession? Are they a bunch of scared little boys waiting for the politicians to act….or will they stand up for the advance of medicine and the women and families who need this treatment? They seem to be hiding behind the skirts of brave women like Sandra Fluke? WHERE are they? They should have volunteered to testify for that patently false Issa hearing. I’m waiting…….
carolyn, Darrell Issa was not looking to hear from any doctors, he was on a witch hunt to just put forth the Republican position which they want to claim it’s all about religion rights, and if any doctors had wanted to testify Issa would have rejected them like he did Ms. Fluke.
Concerning my comment above…..I went to the AMA page and found “Contact Us” and wrote them an email asking the question I asked above. I suggested strongly that they should have made a statement concerning medical uses for the contraceptive pill long before Darrell Issa’s hearing and before Rush Limbaugh dragged this discussion into the gutter. I also said that they look weak and that they are hiding behind a strong woman’s skirts.
This really concerns me. The medical profession has been silent……..they need to speak out!
I guess if any doctors will speak up it will be female doctors. But I agree with you on that concerning doctors.

Have I said lately how much I looooooooooove, adore, respect, and admire Rev. Al Sharpton. He is raining truth all over Melissa Harris Perry’s show. (@MHPShow) He said that he and other activists always receive BS when in their effort to expose the truth, but the job of an activist is that “You Take The Wrath To Expose The Poision.” 100% truth.
When he said that, I shouted “Yes”! Oh, btw, the young conservative I talked about above (AF guy) compared Sharpton (his way of writing it) to Rush. That alone told me all I needed to know about where he is in his understanding and partisanship.
That was absolutely brilliant! Rev Al has been one of the two bright spots on MSNBC (along with Martin Bashir).

They don’t like his policy ideas to improve education. What’s his face, uhm, Matt Damon turned down an invite to meet with Duncan. I’m not sure specifically what they don’t like about PBO’s policy. I think maybe it has something to do with charters and evaluating teacher performance.
I recall Duncan writing a piece in praise of teachers and the liberal blogosphere lost ifs freaking mind as if he spat in their faces. Then they were a bit disappointed when one of the teacher’s union endorsed PBO early and then another followed some time after that. Broke their heart because they were hoping the unions would abandon him.
You can go to any of the lefty sites and search Arne Duncan’s name. I can understand disagreeing but the level of vitriol towards him is inexplicable.
To this day I have not watch Melissa Harris Perry and I’m not sure i will.

While on the road earlier this morning I heard that there were several fatalities caused by the tornado in Indiana (?) & surrounding areas. The catastrophe and the injured are in my thoughts and I hope none of our family here was adversely affected. On the way home I drove through some heavy winds here and was awfully relieved to get off the highway and back home. I can’t imagine the anxiety and fear living through a natural disaster.
By the way, look what I found this morning when I remembered to change my 2010 Obama calendar to March!

I listen to Randi Rhodes and she was not too happy with people calling those sponsors because they are on the same network – Clear Channel. I think she will be ok because people are saying Rush Limbaugh. Anyways, I am proud of all of you and especially Sandra Fluke for standing up. Her parents should be proud. during my lifeitme i have been involved in political protest…marching for right.. descending upon DC joining the busloads of folks from across the country….maching to make Dr King’s birthday a holiday….marching for JOBS…..marching in my city against police abuse…for womens rights…community organizing ……being involved in electoral politics…..registering my neighbors to vote and working in political campaigns
i have had a rich history of grassroots involvement….
i turn 59 this year..and although i am not as active as i once was….i still am drawn to remain involved….and make a difference….
i enjoyed the conversation on Melissa Harris Perry about the place of protest politics in our country and how it creates a climate for action….an impetus for action…latest action….the response to Russ Limbaugh’s most recent incendiary comments regarding contraception….as a side note…one would also have to ask…why hasn’t his other incendiary comments sparked the same kind of outrage….what made these comments different,,,,
perhaps it was the onging feel that women were being attacked by the debates in the halls of government…by the laws being enacted by Repub legislature…. so that his comments became the last straw,,,maybe his comments made it clear for all to see what this fight over access to contraception for women is really all about….controlling women….
whatever the reason…the groundswell of activism on this issue….can change the politics of this issue….
just as the goundswell of the civil rights movement brought about the CivilRights Law and the Voting Rights Act…
for me at 59…my marching steps might be slower….but they are just as sure!!….

Man oh man the opposition research PBO’s campaign team has on Romney is growing. Romney keeps saying he will repeal ACA because he has never recommended or supported the idea of a federal mandate requiring people to purchase healthcare. Well not so fast Willard. Turns out that in 2009 when PBO was drafting ACA, Romney wrote an op-ed in USA TODAY strongly urging PBO to include a federal mandate in the healthcare bill as he did in MA so that costs would go down and more people would be insured. Well, USA TODAY for whatever reason, scrubbed the article from their archives when it became clear Romney was the frontman but TPM broke the story last night. The GOP is already freaking out over this latest news about Romney.
