rise and shine

From Bobfr:

Dear TOD,

Before launching a Twitter storm, which I think could be quite successful, wanted to share the idea with all of you.

The idea is TOTALLY inspired by HZ’s post of earlier today (see here)

All of the companies that provide advertising $$ to hatemonger Rush’s (and others) broadcast radio/TV should be challenged to channel those $$ to support, across the USA, the types of events/services for our troops that HZ outlined. They’d get enormous advert exposure – for something overwhelmingly positive – and they would be infusing their $$ into actions and not just hate-filled sound waves.

The tweets are rather simple and could easily become ‘viral’ – along the lines of “”USA – Tell ALL sponsors on @ClearChannel of #Rush to funnel their $$ to support #USATHANKStheTROOPS inspired by http://tinyurl.com/7b4h39f“”

And, it would be reasonable to contact Sandra Fluke and ask her if she would be supportive of the effort.

What do you think?

This is something a site with now more than 8 million hits should launch because you’d want as much immediate impact and sustained effort as possible.

I’m in – if you folks want to make it happen.

~ ~ ~ ~

Bobfr, this is brilliant. You are our Twitter king, lead and we will follow!

Remember this Michael D Higgins video from last week (it’s from May 2010)? Charles Pierce liked it, a lot:

“To close out an almost unimaginable week of conservative stupidity – that boothead judge out in Montana, Rush Limbaugh’s hocking up the foul weasel mucus from the bottom of his soul, the Blunt Amendment – a commenter brought this to my attention. The star of our show is Michael D. Higgins, president of Ireland. Playing the part of a pile of smoking meat by the side of the road when Higgins is finished with him is Michael Graham, a local talk-radio blight up here in Boston. Don’t bring that weak shit to Grogan’s on William Street, lad.

“A wanker whipping up fear.”

Good on ya, boyo!

From yesterday:

Will catch up later today, chat away everyone 😉

Chips, thanks for the video of PBO’s speech at the conservation conference. I went looking for it earlier at the white house site and at the Interior dept. site and could not find it. As usual you are the hostess with the mostess. I really enjoy watching the interaction between K. S. and PBO. When I think that a few short years ago they were 99 and 100 in the Senate and now to see where they are, I think again with joy and pride, “only in America.”
Off to enjoy the video. Thanks much.

PS: Congrats on reaching over 8 million hits!

Bob, your idea is nothing short of brilliant. I’m totally in and I think we should promote it on Facebook and contact our local county leaders. This could be such a positive boost to local morale as well as tons of goodwill for businesses. It also models the philosophy that love is more powerful than hate. There could be nothing more fitting to counteract the poison filled words of creeps like that racist judge in Montana, the putrid Rush, or the misogynist Republicans in Congress than to fill our communities with love and thanks for our returning military. Thank you, Bob, for leading the way.

Is there any way to put HZ’s post into a format that would allow us to click it onto Facebook with a “share” button? This may seem like a stupid question from a technological clutz, but it would be easier for people to pick up and run with that way.

It occurs to me that Hz & Bobfr’s ideas fit quite nicely into FLOTUS &V-FLOTUS’ Joining Forces initiatives, and could be marketed as such in tweets because that is what they would really be. Marketing them that way could also help In seeking support from local businesses. The very practical suggestions HZ gave as examples would IMO definitely give Joining Forces a more local touch more quickly, and would be far more meaningful in a lasting way than any parade. I dare also say that participating Americans would feel a greater sense of satisfaction for their involvement than they feel from standing by the side of the road screaming and waving for a morning or afternoon.

    Good morning Chips and everyone,

I’m so glad that FINALLY there is some major pushback against the vile pervert Rush Limbaugh. It’s about time. I just couldn’t believe that he could get away with the awful disgusting things he was saying on a regular basic…..disgusting POS that he is.

    Speaking of disgusting.

I saw last night a bunch of tweets that someone was retweeting from Patricia Heaton…

At first I wasn’t sure if it was the actress so I checked on her tweeter feed…..yes it was her sending one message after the other.

They didn’t stay long because as a typical RW nutjob bully, the coward removed them but a lot of people saw them and it is online.

She attacked Sandra Fluke, that lovely young woman who doesn’t deserve that ****.

I made a copy of the tweets for those who didn’t see them.

”G-town Gal: tell your selfish parents 2 stop using all those cellphone minutes &eating out at Denny’s so they can pay 4 your birth control!”

”Hey G-Town Gal: Me&my friends use to donate plasma for beer money! See u at the plasma center! ”

”G -Gal: you’ve given yer folks great gift for Mother’s/Father’s Day! Got up in front of whole world & said I’m having tons of sex- pay 4 it! ”

”Hey G-Town Gal! Switch your major to theater, take a mime class, then just mime the sex! Added bonus: you won’t get STD’s or pregnant! ”

”Hey GTown Gal: How about only having sex on Wednesday? (Hump day!) ”

”Hey G-Gal! Change major to Health Sciences, then look at pix of people w/syphilis, gonorrhrea, herpes, and chlamydia! Instant birth control! ”

”If every Tweaton sent Georgetown Gal one condom, her parents wouldn’t have to cancel basic cable, & she would never reproduce – sound good? ”

There’s no words to describe how I feel about that vile disgusting b******.

I read that she is in a sitcom now…I had no idea, I just remember her from Everybody love Raymond…..so I checked and it is on ABC, it’s called The Middle.

I’m sending an email to ABC this morning……

    Her tweeter handle is @PatriciaHeaton

    The hatred has to stop…enough

    • March 3, 2012 at 8:29 am

she is as a terrible actor as she is a person.

ChristiMTL, I am shock at these tweets. I can not believe that a grown woman can behave like that. What did she have too much to drink that evening? Is she trying to get some attention for that sorry show of hers (the Middle ), or it it that she is just a nasty hateful right wing “B” ? If anyone remember Heaton was never the star on Everyone loves Raymond, it was Raymond, Doris Roberts, and the guy who played Raymond’s Dad. But if she tweeted this stuff, she is a nasty “B”. I will be emailing ABC also.

        March 3, 2012 at 9:13 am

Oh yes it was her Anniebella, Crooks and Liars posted one of her tweets on their website and I saw them on her tweeter feed before she removed them, many people saw them because I saw a lot of tweets about it.

I hope ABC get a lot of complains,

They keep doing this because there’s no consequences to their actions.

But now they are attacking a private citizen….

          March 3, 2012 at 9:51 am

She was the wife of Ray on Everybody loves Raymond. Most people watch the show for Ray, Doris Roberts, the dad and the brother. She’s not funny. I know Ray is a Democrat and supports PBO. Heaton now has a show called “The Middle” on ABC. I don’t watch it. Prefer Modern Family. Christy said she’s since deleted the tweets but I hope people keep complaining to ABC. The backlash she must have gotten must be why she deleted the offensive tweets but more needs to be done.

          • March 3, 2012 at 12:46 pm

I watch The Middle. Its pretty good. Its not her that makes the show good though, its the kids. Especially the girl and the youngest boy. I’ve known she was a Republican for a long time but as long as I didn’t hear say any thing stupid from her I didn’t mind. Now she’s ruined. I won’t watch the show anymore. Its one thing to be a Republican, but to be so vile, nasty and unprofessional is worse.

I liked her in Raymond even though I knew she was GOPer. But I though she was a GOPer the way Eastwood and Schwarzenegger are, somewhat sane. But now she and Kelsey Grammer (who of all people supported Michelle Bachmann)are showing the same insanity that has taken over the repubs. Sad, really. Incidently, the two were together in a short lived sitcom on Fox. Don’t think it lasted a season.

Wow! If it were just her politics, I’d say “meh, whatever” and move on, but to act like that on the internet, on one of the biggest media platforms, toward complete strangers who dared challenge her opinion? And this person is 50+ years old. Just shows you the (lack of) maturity level you have to possess in order to follow such backward and self-defeating logic as a woman demonizing women’s health issues. And what’s with all the ‘you’re poor’ slurs to boot? Just…ugh!

Spent the last 2 days driving home to Illinois from Florida. Yesterday’s drive was a total nightmare, weather and driving conditions from hell—-rain pounding the car, raining so hard wipers were a joke, dark as night mid-day, huge weird clouds looking like they could throw a tornado down any minute, foggy, truck-spraying conditions, tree-bending winds——–and then!—-we finally make it to Chgo expressway and the rain turns into a blizzard! A blizzard! Roads ice packed and 6 lanes of traffic at a halt, made an early exit and were going to try to meander our way home, but there were accidents and power lines down everywhere, roads closed everywhere, ambulances and fire trucks trying to get by, miles and miles of people trying to get home or go somewhere on a Friday night and it was impossible to go anywhere, cops blocking intersections. After hours of this, we finally made it home by a real circuitous route going 5 mph. The whole day was unbelievable, but I guess we were fortunate as I see on the news multiple devastating tornadoes hit in the exact areas we were driving—–northern Ky. and southern In. So——very happy to be home and to get back in Obama re-election mode.

Here’s one of my talking points, if the Republicans in Congress had got off their butts and work with the President, unemployment would be lower than it is, instead what they did was sabotage the economy in hopes of winning in 2012. Let everyone remember what Senator Mitch McConnell said his number one goal was, not to put Americans back to work, or better the economy, but to make this President a one term President.

        March 3, 2012 at 9:40 am

Excellent point anniebella. And thanks for giving me another opportunity to post the website below that documents the fact that the Republican Party has done absolutely nothing for job creation in this country since President Obama took office. All they do is obstruct and criticize President Obama for not cleaning up the mess THEY CREATED fast enough.

Shortly after the GOP regained the House of Representatives in 2010 the new Speaker of the House, John Boehner, made the welcome claim that the primary goal of the Republican Party was to increase employment in the U.S.

His exact words were: “We’re going to have a relentless focus on creating jobs.”

The following, therefore, is a chronological list of employment-related legislation by the GOP beginning 2-10-2011. I’m sorry to report that none, so far, have resulted in a single new job being created in America.

NEW YORK (Reuters) – BP Plc has reached an estimated $7.8 billion deal with businesses suing over the massive 2010 Gulf of Mexico oil spill, the company said on Friday, but the oil giant still faces claims by the U.S. government, Gulf states and drilling partners.

U.S. District Judge Carl Barbier, in an order made three days before the case had been due to go to trial, said the proposed terms of the class settlement would be submitted to court for approval.

He had already delayed the start of the trial to allow the Plaintiffs’ Steering Committee, representing fisherman and businesses whose livelihoods they said were damaged by the explosion of the Deepwater Horizon rig and massive oil spill from the Macondo well, to negotiate.

So, that’s 7.8 billion for businesses, another 14 billion fir individuals on tip of the 6.6 already filed out! Now, we are just waiting fit how much the Federal Government will settle for!

Bob’s idea is great. I have a special affinity for those types of things, maybe because my son is career Army.

Also, I, for one, am glad to see the administration using visuals, such as the chart on domestic oil production. They are simple and straightforward. Yes, you can rely too much on charts and graphs, but used wisely, they can have an impact. My guess would be that 90% of Americans think we import most of our oil, which is why the RW’s “drill, baby, drill” mantra has such resonance. Getting this out there helps combat that.

If Nelson were a true saboteur he wouldn’t have voted for HCR, FinReg or ACA. I agree he can be a pain but I appreciate his vote when we needed it. Don’t kid yourself about Kerrey. On certain issues he’s going to be just as frustrating.

Kerry came out early in support of Senator Obama when he started his run for the presidency. I hope he wins, we need every Dem. we can get no matter what. The one I wonder about simply because I don’t think he’s voted in support of Democratic policy since he’s come into the Senate. Does anyone know? At least Nelson voted D many, many times.

Good Morning TOD Family. Pamela, you are so like me in your candle space. I walked into my store to stock up on my “teas” and the young lady knew it was “lighting the hopes for all time” space in my home. I love what you are doing with yours as well.

Now our precious Sue, I totally agree with Pamela and your TOD family here. Please, please take care today. You are just like me. When I have a “love-cause”, no matter how painful the task still gets my attention. I load up with the meds and pray VERY hard and move with it. I know TOD family, we are hardheaded, but somehow we make it through. I do believe in prayer and meditations on goodness in my space.

So Sue, your candle is lit and my prayers have been prayed for you. Your name is already in the “loving prayer box” in the candle room. However, my love please take it carefully and when you get home, go to bed and replenish your body. Ok? I know how once we get in our “giving space” the pain seems to vanish because our minds are telling us that we are in a good and decent place of doing something good for others. I call it, my”angels carrying me moments.” So let your angels carry you, and listen to them.

I love you for all that you do, Sue. You are such a special spirit in this world. ((((((((((((((((((Blessings, and more Hugs))))))))))))))))))) HZ

True, because it’s the most expensive hybrid on the Road at 41k per vehincle!

The Ford Fusion hybrid, is 25k, the Prius is 26k etc.
Also, Ford coming out with all electric car, this year, I bet the cost will be in the mid 20s.

Who was it yesterday who was compiling a list of Republican hypocrites? (The super computers will keep going to for years).

Here’s another one for the list:

    • March 3, 2012 at 10:29 am

It was me, 57. I am always getting into a discussion on FB with a conservative who constantly insists he is a moderate. He is someone I’ve known (and even had in class) since he was a young teen. He is now a LT. Col. in the Air Force; was raised VERY middle-class, actually borderline lower middle class. However, now he has the attitude of “I’ve got mine and screw everyone else.” He married a young woman whom he met in the AF, then she got out because of a disability (back and somewhat questionable) if you get my drift. She gets money every month for that. His father-in-law is retired AF…high rank. Every discussion we get in it is a running thread of Fox or Luntz talking points or “both sides do it” or brings up Clinton or some other past Dem. After a long discussion Thursday night and some things he said, I realized he does have some racism in his thoughts, in many areas he is EXTREME right-wing–but remember he says he is moderate. lol I also now know that NOTHING, no fact I could put in front of him would change his mind. He insists he is open-minded and I’m not; that I am the one spreading hate. He is convinced PO is leading the country in the total wrong direction. He doesn’t agree/approve of ANYTHING the President does. Spreads links about how PO is destroying the military, cutting the budget, taking things away from the military, etc. etc. The last thing he brought up was hypocrisy and mentioned Clinton. That’s why I want to compile a LONG list of these hypocrites. I’m writing down everything this family gives me so keep it coming.

I have a question concerning the the use of hormonal contraception and its myriad health uses: Where is the medical profession? Are they a bunch of scared little boys waiting for the politicians to act….or will they stand up for the advance of medicine and the women and families who need this treatment? They seem to be hiding behind the skirts of brave women like Sandra Fluke? WHERE are they? They should have volunteered to testify for that patently false Issa hearing. I’m waiting…….

    • 151 anniebella
      March 3, 2012 at 10:28 am

carolyn, Darrell Issa was not looking to hear from any doctors, he was on a witch hunt to just put forth the Republican position which they want to claim it’s all about religion rights, and if any doctors had wanted to testify Issa would have rejected them like he did Ms. Fluke.

    March 3, 2012 at 10:28 am

Concerning my comment above…..I went to the AMA page and found “Contact Us” and wrote them an email asking the question I asked above. I suggested strongly that they should have made a statement concerning medical uses for the contraceptive pill long before Darrell Issa’s hearing and before Rush Limbaugh dragged this discussion into the gutter. I also said that they look weak and that they are hiding behind a strong woman’s skirts.
This really concerns me. The medical profession has been silent……..they need to speak out!

Early early early heads up TOD: PBO will be giving the commencement address at Barnard College – a Liberal Arts college for women – on May 14, 2012. Cue the GOP wing nut freak out because you know PBO is going to decimate them in a beautiful manner about womens rights, women in the public space, and the power of women. Man oh man PBO’s 2012 is lining up perfectly.

Good Morning, TOD, mornin’ Chips! Love to see everyone fired up about these brilliant and inspired thoughts flowing, and happy to get behind the movement. With this kind of massive potential, and the transformational quality it will bring not only to the receivers, but to those on the giving end, we will see a new dawning of civilization, an historic turning point in worldwide human relations, and healing on a scale never before witnessed. Bless you, HZ, bless you bobfr, bless all the dedicated TOD family, and bless Mama Chips. Most of all, bless our dear President, whose energy and unflagging devotion to a higher state of being inspires so many to the Will To Good.

  30. March 3, 2012 at 10:35 am

Good morning Chips and wonderful TOD family. HZ and Bobfr, you are both wonderful people and those ideas are just what we need. I am so mad now with this attack on a women who was just exercising her right to speak.

I read on twitter on of the better ways to go after Limbaugh is to go after local sponsors. I am going to find out who is sponsoring locally and call and write them letters. This has gone too far.

    Off to a meeting.

    • 161 Bobfr (aka Our4thEstate)
      March 3, 2012 at 1:43 pm

      Thank you Marilyn!

Please do identify the local sponsors and let us know and we can Tweet them and otherwise bring attention to whom they are. The key is instead of merely telling them not to do something we offer them a much better way to get their company brand associated with a positive message and objective.

    Why Romney’s dog story matters:

“While I don’t think the Seamus story is a reason in itself to vote for or against Romney (popularly known inside my mind as “the bloodless Vulcan overlord with a blank Orphan Annie gaze and a case of foot and mouth disease that puts the misunderestimated W to shame”), I certainly do consider it indicative. Personally, I find it difficult to imagine that people in this economy would choose to vote into the White House a multi-kajillionaire who made his wealth in the very profession whose members brought this country to its knees not four years ago with their excesses, excesses which Romney himself I imagine would be more than happy to allow again through financial deregulation. I’d like to imagine that people would vote against a man who would suggest that those who would care to close the increasingly unsustainable income gap in the country are guilty of “class envy.” But if they want to vote against him simply because of the dog, I’m fine with that too”

Have I said lately how much I looooooooooove, adore, respect, and admire Rev. Al Sharpton. He is raining truth all over Melissa Harris Perry’s show. (@MHPShow) He said that he and other activists always receive BS when in their effort to expose the truth, but the job of an activist is that “You Take The Wrath To Expose The Poision.” 100% truth.

    • March 3, 2012 at 10:54 am

When he said that, I shouted “Yes”! Oh, btw, the young conservative I talked about above (AF guy) compared Sharpton (his way of writing it) to Rush. That alone told me all I needed to know about where he is in his understanding and partisanship.

Her show has good potential but I don’t like how she has no control of her panel. She allows these neanderthal GOP men to interrupt her incessantly, shout over her, speak over her, act in a rude and priggish manner and then she giggles while they’re doing it instead of pushing back.

        • March 3, 2012 at 1:10 pm

Oh the left does not like Arne Duncan.

            • March 3, 2012 at 2:55 pm

They don’t like his policy ideas to improve education. What’s his face, uhm, Matt Damon turned down an invite to meet with Duncan. I’m not sure specifically what they don’t like about PBO’s policy. I think maybe it has something to do with charters and evaluating teacher performance.

I recall Duncan writing a piece in praise of teachers and the liberal blogosphere lost ifs freaking mind as if he spat in their faces. Then they were a bit disappointed when one of the teacher’s union endorsed PBO early and then another followed some time after that. Broke their heart because they were hoping the unions would abandon him.

You can go to any of the lefty sites and search Arne Duncan’s name. I can understand disagreeing but the level of vitriol towards him is inexplicable.

Good Morning Chips and TODville, and may you all be enjoying a Saturday of your choice! 😆 😆 I have house cleaning, laundry and cooking on the agenda today none of which I feel like doing, so I decided to come join in the TOD fun UNTIL, and if, guilt moves me into home front action. 😉

While on the road earlier this morning I heard that there were several fatalities caused by the tornado in Indiana (?) & surrounding areas. The catastrophe and the injured are in my thoughts and I hope none of our family here was adversely affected. On the way home I drove through some heavy winds here and was awfully relieved to get off the highway and back home. I can’t imagine the anxiety and fear living through a natural disaster.

By the way, look what I found this morning when I remembered to change my 2010 Obama calendar to March!

“From the first moment a woman dared to speak that hope — dared to believe that the American
Dream was meant for her too — ordinary women have taken on extraordinary odds to give their
daughters the chance for something else; for a life more equal, more free, and filled with more
opportunity than they ever had. In so many ways we have succeeded, but in so many areas we
have much work left to do.”
    — Barack Obama, Speech in Washington, DC – November 10, 2005

Check the date, TOD-obots! 😆 Our President is such an awesome leader because, as we all know here, his positions, viewpoints, and policies did not emerge when he started ‘running for office, for Pete’s sake’. They have been a cornerstone of who he is and what he stands for from before he entered politics. I. LOVE. THIS. PRESIDENT, FAMILY MAN, and FATHER. Wish I’d had a father or a brother like him, but am exceedingly happy that the younger generation has this opportunity to see him, and VP Joe modeling so many positive family and human values. OBAMA/BIDEN 2012!!! Bring it on Mitt-Ricky-NewtPaul! All together you don’t even make one semi-satisfactory candidate! 🙄 🙄

during my lifeitme i have been involved in political protest…marching for right.. descending upon DC joining the busloads of folks from across the country….maching to make Dr King’s birthday a holiday….marching for JOBS…..marching in my city against police abuse…for womens rights…community organizing ……being involved in electoral politics…..registering my neighbors to vote and working in political campaigns

i have had a rich history of grassroots involvement….

i turn 59 this year..and although i am not as active as i once was….i still am drawn to remain involved….and make a difference….

i enjoyed the conversation on Melissa Harris Perry about the place of protest politics in our country and how it creates a climate for action….an impetus for action…latest action….the response to Russ Limbaugh’s most recent incendiary comments regarding contraception….as a side note…one would also have to ask…why hasn’t his other incendiary comments sparked the same kind of outrage….what made these comments different,,,,

perhaps it was the onging feel that women were being attacked by the debates in the halls of government…by the laws being enacted by Repub legislature…. so that his comments became the last straw,,,maybe his comments made it clear for all to see what this fight over access to contraception for women is really all about….controlling women….

whatever the reason…the groundswell of activism on this issue….can change the politics of this issue….

just as the goundswell of the civil rights movement brought about the CivilRights Law and the Voting Rights Act…

for me at 59…my marching steps might be slower….but they are just as sure!!….

    Presssssssssssss ON!!

    Good Morning TOD family

Such a treat to read about the successful pushback in fighting Rush Limbaugh. On Monday morning I will put out a call to action

    1. We all need to write to Jackie Spiers – the CA congresswoman who started this by making a call from the floor or the house, this is the same woman who spoke out against the abortion rules and her video went viral. She is a gutsy lady and we need to thank her no matter where we live.
    Speier, Jackie email – https://forms.house.gov/speier/webforms/email_jackie.shtml Twitter #RepSpeier (202) 225-3531

    2. We need to send a note of thanks to every sponsor who pulled their advertising

    3. Any sponsor who is continuing to support Rush needs to hear from us

    4. Bob and HZ wlll help us refine our message on Twitter and beyond

    5. There was an article about how the funding for Rush’s show also comes from 2 investment firms Bain and Thomas?? we need to put some heat on those companies also.

    5. An earlier post mentions government funding for part of Rush’s show. Let’s follow through on that as well

The blog has not had a call to action in a while, we need to exercise those activists muscles on a regular basis, so next Monday be ready.

    • March 3, 2012 at 3:56 pm

sounds good Linda I’ll keep watch for you on Monday and get to it as time permits at work. I will send a letter of thanks to Congresswoman Speier

Man oh man the opposition research PBO’s campaign team has on Romney is growing. Romney keeps saying he will repeal ACA because he has never recommended or supported the idea of a federal mandate requiring people to purchase healthcare. Well not so fast Willard. Turns out that in 2009 when PBO was drafting ACA, Romney wrote an op-ed in USA TODAY strongly urging PBO to include a federal mandate in the healthcare bill as he did in MA so that costs would go down and more people would be insured. Well, USA TODAY for whatever reason, scrubbed the article from their archives when it became clear Romney was the frontman but TPM broke the story last night. The GOP is already freaking out over this latest news about Romney.

I am going to enjoy PBO wiping the floor with the COWARD called Willard.

On a winter evening in 2009, a 911 call came in to the police department of Anne Arundel County, Maryland, where the state Capital, Annapolis, is located. “I see some activity going on in the car, and I don’t think it’s proper… . It looks like sexual activity to me,” said the male caller, later adding, “I’m not positive, but it looks like there’s naked people in the car.”

An officer was sent to investigate. He found the car in parking lot of a shopping mall. It was a black Chevy Impala, with the license “County Executive 1.” In the back seat was John R. Leopold, the Anne Arundel County Executive.

Though the car was government-issue, no charges were filed. Leopold, a major Republican power broker in the state who served for decades in the Maryland legislature, dismissed accusations of impropriety as “rumor and gossip.” He was reelected in 2010.
