a word from hz

by HZ

Rachel Maddow made my heart move faster than one of my attacks, so I had to let her go when she got on PBO about the parade thing. She pisses me off when she goes on about it.

I wish Rachel would let it rest and honor the call of the Pentagon and PBO. He shared with Bob Woodruff last evening his feelings when Bob asked the question of him. I respect his decision and the Pentagon’s.

She could really get the viewers that she wants if she had taken her call into another level of how we all could respect our troops’ returning. This could be “A Country Showing Appreciation”. Then when all are home, we can have a parade.

I could see towns and cities all over the country having a “date night” for our troops and their spouses. Invite our local eateries in each state to donate their restaurants, lounges, music halls, theaters, concert halls to open up for one night with everything on the house. Then her viewers could donate a dinner, movie tickets and dinner, basketball game and dinner, broadway show and dinner, Sunday Brunch with family, town picnics with town and city halls sponsoring the food and entertainment for a weekend.

Beauty salon and spa treatments for family, carpenters, plumbers, electricians, cable companies, donating repair service for homes that have been neglected because of spouses were not able to be home to make some much needed repairs. Gutter cleaners service donated. Companies donated shopping sprees for clothing for the families for the spring. Some families may need a new automobile to get around, so have car dealers go in together and give out a limited number of cars for those needed families.

Sat. breakfasts and a gift from their our local hardware stores, local Macy’s to get a gift for the house, bed and bath gift baskets for their homes, furniture stores donating a home furnishing piece, local water companies picking up a two three month water or gas bill, grocery stores donating 250.00 dollars of groceries for a year, a car mechanic repair for a family car of at least 500.00, a retailer donating home appliances for the families, etc. School supplies and bookstores donating books and supplies for a year to each family. Enrollments for students in a sport, a year of piano lessons, dance lessons, healthy cooking classes from famous chefs a duration of time, donating musical instruments and lessons for 1 full year to children who have not been able to do so because mom or dad were away fighting for us.

Anything that would lighten the load for the family readjusting into the family’s home again with new and durable goods and services. Cleaning service for a home for a month. Phone service for at least two months, a computer for the family with internet service for a year. And the list could go on and be generous. These brave men and women were generous with their lives in their commitment to keep us safe. It may sound way out there, but nothing is way out there when you put your life on the line over and over in duties daily for all of us. Really. Yes, really.

Encourage a nation to get involved at this point to help and give back where it really counts. Then we can all step back and have our wonderful parade for all of our servicemen/women when they ALL are finished.

We all need to forward this to Rachel.

Seconded. Her-know-it-all schtick has become highly grating.

    • March 2, 2012 at 1:22 pm

Agree. Although I love the idea of communities coming together to honor the end of the Iraq War if they choose. Who is stopping them? Which is why I don’t get Rachel’s claim that the pentagon is standing in the way of a ticker tape parade in New York. Why would NY be different from ST. Louis, for example? If Bloomberg wanted to okay a parade in New York then who is stopping him? Doesn’t pass the sniff test.

Anyway, thank you, Chipsticks for highlighting HZ’s beautiful and doable idea. Let’s honor our military and their families that sacrificed so much in ways that materially improve their lives.

Hi Sue, hope you are feeling fine today. Please take good care of yourself.

Yes, I do not understand, but I do believe that we can take this fruit and draw out the sweet nectar and deliver it to some beautiful and wonderful people who deserve our actions in so many beautiful ways. They all had one mission given to them, but they all worked together to accomplish that mission, and in the end so many people were helped.

That is the least we can do. The war has been fought, lives have been lost, now it is time to cut the constant full-blown whinning and do what we can do. These are simple, but practical things that we can take to our city council members, mayors, etc. I am going to do what I can. Our troops have paid the highest price, and I think we can find some gifters to help us repay in a loving and respectful, practical way to them.HZ

I welcome you alls love, suggestions, help, and getting something good done for a great cause. So those of you who write so beautifully, know how to copy and paste(I do not) please use what you want. President Obama called Georgetown University law student Sandra Fluke to show his support after the vicious and ugly attacks from Rush Limbaugh. This is so like him. He’s a remarkable human being. It’s not possible for me to love him any more than I do.

That weak and flimsy “It wasn’t appropriate” from John Boehner was pathetic. How long will it be before he has to apologize to Rush for daring to criticize him?

    • March 2, 2012 at 1:37 pm

Trust me, it won’t be long. That was discussed last night on LOD. They recounted how Rush made a fool of himself last year–don’t remember what–and some of the R’s walked it back and by the next day, every one of them, had apologized to him. SICK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • March 2, 2012 at 1:46 pm

Give it time. They will find an “appropriate” way to call Fluke a slut also and then apologize to Rush.

I watched this video with tears streaming down my face. I am so proud of Sandra Fluke. She is an inspiration. The clarity that she brings to the debate on contraception is just remarkable. I am so thrilled that she received the call from President Obama. He is a class act.

      • March 2, 2012 at 1:59 pm

        She is very articulate.

      • March 2, 2012 at 2:11 pm

PBO, is not only a class act but doing everything in his power to drag us into the new millennium. Sandra Fluke’s testimony was SO IMPORTANT because she took it beyond a modern sexuality plane into the nuts and bolts of women’s health care: beyond the truth that our biological processes should not be held hostage to pasty white men, she also EMPHASIZED the undisputed fact that many women are prescribed birth control pills for purely medical reasons. Often these reasons are about preserving a woman’s ability to procreate.

Rush Limbaugh, I think you are one of the vilest persons on the planet.

    • March 2, 2012 at 2:44 pm

I can’t take Rachel seriously anymore. Having a parade when we have 90,000 troops in Afghanistan is just stupid. I could only imagine how dumb it would look to have a parade and then a lot of those troops be redeployed. I know she’s intelligent but she can be really immature sometimes.

    • 58 57andFemale
      March 2, 2012 at 4:08 pm

Here’s why this infuriates me about Rachel: Okay, you would prefer a parade. there is a rationale for why there isn’t a parade, a reasonable rationale. It does not translate into disrespect for the troops — it can rationally be interpreted that it shows respect for the troops still fighting and dying in Afghanistan. To not acknowledge that, to make this a condemnation of the Obama administration is unforgivable.

I’ve yet to hear her apologize to the President over her hair-on-fire tirade when PBO did not step into the carefully negotiated and balanced vote for marriage equality in New York. When any rational person could see that PBO was assuring its passage by NOT getting involved.

      She can bhe an idiot.

        March 2, 2012 at 4:27 pm

I stopped watching her years ago when she’d be for the President one night and the next night she’s telling him what to do or say. I sent her an e-mail to let her know that I did not appreciate that. In fact I promised never to watch her station again but had to relent and watch Rev. Al. As soon as he is done, I’m gone. Having a parade while troops are still in Afghanistan is foolish. Wait until all the people are home then do something for them like HZ suggested. A parade is just for a day.

Exactly. She needs to learn to think before she speaks. The way she panders to the GOP by begging in an asinine manner for them to come to her show turns my stomach. 16. March 2, 2012 at 1:49 pm

I’d like to mention also the outrageous and ridiculous lies that have been coming out of the mouths of our Republican candidates. We know Santorum is going nowhere; he’s not going to get anywhere near the White House, but the world doesn’t know that. We laugh at Santorum’s awful comments, for instance, about Holland killing off the sick elderly in their hospitals, but it’s really getting the Dutch riled, and I don’t blame them.

They wonder why this feeble minded man is being taken seriously by the American people. And though we know we have all sorts of nuts getting enough signatures and enough followers to get them on the stage to yammer away about things they know nothing about, we know that, at the end of this circus, they’re going back to their own booby hatches, but the rest of the world doesn’t know that.

Rachael had a Dutch journalist on (I suppose it was last night) countering this raving about Holland’s own “Death Panels” by Rick Santorum and, listening to the problems he’s made in Holland’s own politics, I wonder why we allow crackpots like Santorum mouth these straight out lies without some kind of punishment. Shouldn’t we impose some kind of rules — of decorum, of truthfulness, of basic integrity, especially in the case of other countries’ politicsr?

Free speech aside, lies should not be allowed to stand. It reflects badly on our own country. All these problems caused by the babbling of a brainless boob thinking he could be president? It simply shouldn’t happen. Especially since the poor suckers who listen to him and actually believe his jerkiness can actually vote.

Woe is us if we don’t reign in this three-ring circus in future campaigns!

    • 79 57andFemale
      March 2, 2012 at 2:04 pm

the press is supposed to be the counter force to lies in the public square in terms of political speech. When the MSM refuses to do its job — in fact advocates doing the opposite — then we end up in the morass that we’re in. When the omnibudman (?) of the NYT thinks it’s a reasonable question to ask — should the press actually report truth or should they just report what each side says — we’re in serious trouble.

    • March 2, 2012 at 2:06 pm

You are so right. When the awful debate went on and on about universal health care, the folks here in Canada couldn’t understand what the fuss was about. It demeans the character of Americans, who have done so much for the world, to see people in positions of power stand up and talk absolute nonsense. What is even more hurtful is the number of people who cheer and believe the lies. Barak Obama restored so much faith in America just byvirtue of his election. His rhetoric on the world stage has brought us closer together and healed many breaches. It would be a shame to allow this Republican crap to continue to be a three ring circus on the world stage. Good for you JKS for speaking up.

  17. March 2, 2012 at 1:52 pm

This is what happens when there is not much to complain about the President. I personally would not have a parade while tens of thousands are still in Aghanistan. Oh, please with the Rachel assault. She is the best thing on TV. Her noise on the parade doesn’t bother me. In fact, I like it when a liberal is giving full throated support to the troops. PBO is taking the meme “dems are weak on defense” off the table. Michelle Obama and Jill Biden are doing amazing things for military families and changing attitudes about Dems. The pentagon and the president see it differently on this parade and Bloomberg is respecting that. But Vets groups are advocating for it. Rachel is helping voice that support.

      • 102 L3
        March 2, 2012 at 2:32 pm

Amen. If she’s so concerned about the troops maybe she should do something herself. By the way, a parade is a one-tme event; it will not clothe, feed or house any of our vets or their families, which is where the Obamas and Bidens efforts are focused. And, I am not so certain she’s all that brilliant. I don’t watch her show anymore but what I observed was a nagging, grating, immature individual who takes way too long to get to the point because she loves the sound of her own voice, sucks up to Republicans and slams Democrats every chance she gets.

She’s stubborn and incapable of admitting her mistakes. She’s been on this planet all of five minutes and thinks she knows everything about everything. In many ways, she’s an educated fool.

Now you are speaking my heart, L3. Amen, Amen. Thank you. And let us not forget, these service/men/women did not just give their service to FLOTUS, and SLOTUS. We all are Americans who can and should be involved in practical ways, at least until we can end the war and then come together to do a big parade. The service /men/women did not not say, we will wait for the big end of the war. No, they went out there Every Day a did there mission for all of us.HZ

Because they don’t have to resort to juvenile tactics for ratings. They don’t pander and grovel to republicans and beg them like sick puppies to come on their shows. They don’t put up phony “Oval Office Addresses” to mock the President of The United States, Barack Obama. They don’t spew lies about PBO. When the marriage equality bill passed in New York, Bashir and Sharpton didn’t get on their high horses like Rachel did and say that PBO did not support the bill when he 100% did. Why the hell isn’t she on Bloomberg’s ass about the parades? The Pentagon isn’t stopping Bloomberg from throwing a parade. If one throws a national parade but doesn’t follow up with concrete actions like jobs, healthcare, and education that benefit the troops then what the fuck was the parade about? To just pay lip service? If one throws a parade and half of the troops in that city has to be deployed or redeployed to Afghanistan who the heck does it benefit? Don’t EVER tell me Rachel is the best thing on TV. She may have a smart mind but is woefully dumb at using it in an intelligent manner. There are better and far more superior pundits on TV than Rachel. If her noise doesn’t bother you, if her lies don’t bother you, then you’re not paying attention. She is far from a bag of gold.

I like Rachel too, but not all the time. Last night I tuned in to hear her weigh in on the Limbaugh remarks, but couldn’t watch every minute because I was working on something else. She started by talking about Romney for quite sometime, and then she lit into this stuff about a PARADE!!

I like a good parade myself from time to time, but I could not for the life of me figure out why the heck she was spending so much time on that issue, especially since so many troops are still in Afghanistan. I also trust that the Pentagon has reasons, that they have NOT revealed to Rachel or any of the rest of us, for not wanting a parade.

      Sorry, I Don’t Get it.

We can do without Rachel. She is NOT the best thing on TV.

    • March 2, 2012 at 2:52 pm

No she isn’t. And if she feels that strongly she can easily bring some vets on and honor them coast to coast. She could also do some heavy lifting and use her influence to get them jobs and whatever else they need.

      • March 2, 2012 at 5:32 pm

Now you are talking, debingle. That is my point as well. She had other people on when she was advocating their cause. That is how I feel about the issue and will stand with it because it makes sense because we can do so many other things with respect and honor.HZ

    • March 2, 2012 at 2:52 pm

I think this is a phony issue and her jag is not about a parade. She needs to be in opposition, always needs to be sharpening that 2 ton axe. Seriously, does she need to rant about a marching band and balloons? Because PBO and FLOTUS are doing the heavy lifting for veterans AND their families right now, fighting for health care, increased compensation, education, training and portability of skills and certifications.

        March 2, 2012 at 4:06 pm

Bingo! Dear meta you’ve said something that is near to my heart. That is portability of skills. There are troops out there doing jobs that, in some cases, that require a college degree in normal circumstances. Yet, when these vets get out they have to go to an institution of higher learning to learn what they already know.
I know this from personal experience. I was trained as an electronics technician in the Navy. The training I received was eventually adopted by a fledgling school called DeVry. Though I was qualified to teach there, I found it difficult to find work because I didn’t have a degree. Of course my sepia hue didn’t help.

“Rachel is helping voice that support”

Rachel is helping Rachel. She’s a very short-sighted, I want what I want when I want it, ……libertarian, liberal….shit, whatever. And she is very immature to boot. She must remember that she cannot and does not speak for every left-leaning and thinking individual, who may desire the same as she does, but is willing to filter through the muck to achieve the best for all concerned.

    • March 2, 2012 at 5:29 pm

Well, then Rachel should be clear on her motives, especially since she is considered by many to be so smart. I am not knocking her “smarts” because I have seen her use her great knowledge in very productive ways, but she (to my knowledge) has not made that very pointed point that she is speaking because the Vets groups are adocating for it. We all are/have been voicing that support.

The key words are Ticker Parade in NY. Disregarding a common-sense statement by the pentagon and POB’s statement.HZ

I have been mad at Rachel Maddow since she started this a while back when she went so far as to bring veterans on her show to make her point . Does she not realize the division and pain she is causing? The 1st thing that came to my mind was “PMS”. Rachel Maddow is not satisfied unless she can appeal to her firebagger comrades.

Thank you HZ, I have been wanting someone to speak out on her deplorable accusations. I agree with you Tally . I don’t tweet . But I will e-mail her. In the past when her behavior was confronted it seemed like she got worse.

I happen to like just about all the liberal talkies even if i at times completely disagree with them. I thank God we have them ‘cuz I pay attention to hate radio and “christian talk” radio in my car. We’ve a fat fuck calling a nice young lady a whore on our airwaves and we’re complaining about Rachel disagreeing with the pentagon on a parade. She is the best thing on TV even if she steps in it now and again. Just the way I feel about it.

Obama calls Sandra Fluke, Georgetown law student assailed by Rush Limbaugh

    ========================

“He encouraged me and supported me and thanked me for speaking out about the concerns of American women,” Fluke told Mitchell of the call with Obama. “And what was really personal for me was that he said to tell my parents that they should be proud. And that meant a lot because Rush Limbaugh questioned whether or not my family would be proud of me. So, I just appreciated that very much.”

The call by Obama is a rare one and a move that signals the White House, like Democrats more broadly, is intent on keeping the spotlight on the contraception issue.

Ahead of his meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday, Obama said both Israel and Iran should recognize that he’s serious about an attack on Iran if it attempts to garner nuclear weapons.

She pissed me off way back when she kept going on and on about PBO’s stance re same sex marriage and when she kept stirring the “sh*t pot” re DADT. Last night when Rachel Maddow said if she lives to be 300 she will never understand why the WH and Pentagon don’t think a Parade would be a good idea right now. She doesn’t want to understand. Has it ever occurred to her that while we have troops all over the middle east, if we were to have a huge NYC parade it could actually backfire and inflame the entire middle east. After all Iraq was an effing ilegal war.

For a myriad of reasons, she is wrong. But on that point, she is not so bright. You are so correct. Things are so unsettled right now in the East (they hate to be called the Middle East, by the way), what with the murder of 2 US service people since that desecration of the Quran. Any sign of celebration would only be seen as pompous and arrogant on the part of the nation.

I am so glad that I am not the only one who thinks that RM’s word is gospel. I really get tired of people saying how smart she is. Just get to the damn point, already. Is she is as brilliant as she thinks she is, she would know that less is more. My mother and sisters taught me that long ago. I try to apply it in everything that I say and do.

Another thing, if she supports Ron Paul, who is supposedly against all and any wars. Why the hell is a parade so important to her? This is not about a parade at all. This is about ratings…..her ratings. She is not the “best thing on television”. She gives you more of HER opinions than facts. And We all know that opinions are just like the noses on our faces……..we all have one. We waited a decade for POB to being this senseless war to and end. Surely, we can respect his and the Pentagon’s decision. Let her throw a parade if she will not shut up about this.

I totally agree with you on the ‘Official Iraq Veterans Parade’, but I can’t quit Rachel.

I did, however, send several angry tweets to @RachelBlog when she started that RIDICULOUS ‘Liberal vs Conservative’ segment of her Thursday, March 1 show. What the F*** is a ‘Liberal’ or a ‘Conservative’. Before she or anyone can define the political identity of others, there has to be a definition on which we all agree. THERE IS NONE! I screamed (impotently) at my TV throughout the segment, and was unable to focus on the remainder of the show. The idea that Bill Clinton would be considered more ‘Progressive or Liberal’ than Barack Obama is asinine. (1) deregulation of the Telecommunitcations Industry-allowing the rise of right-wing radio and FOX noise, (2) Repeal of Glass-Stiegal-allowing for the rise of Derivative trading on Wall Street, (3) Welform ‘reform’-F***ing Joke that gave cover to southern bigots and racists, (4) NAFTA (5) Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA). Even though he signed DADT, his intentions were honorable. At the time, it was ‘better’ than the obtainable alternative.

That discussion reminded me about the feeling I had when Rachel declared that “Barack Obama doesn’t like what’s happening here”, regarding NY Marriage Equality Vote. WHAT?

I still love her show. But we need to ‘convince’ her of the error of her ways. She has been more of an Obama advocate than a critic. If we have no tolerance at all for those who sometimes disagree with us, how can we expect others to ‘tolerate’ what, for me, are sometimes, wrong-headed and uninformed positions. Educate before you denigrate. When that fails, SLAM.

Really good points about Rachel, ZL. I don’t agree with her even 60% of the time and she is the pundit i like the most. Martin Brasheer and O’Donold are gaining. Some say she is childish and silly. Sure, at times, but I think that makes her funny and fun to watch for me. Always hyperventilating gets old. And while she is silly and childish at times, the other side is incredibly evil. Fox news is beating the hell out of MSNBC utilizing 24/7 organized hate. I’m grateful MSNBC exist even if they are a light counterweight. I will always support a liberal media wherever it exists.

HZ, Thank you so much for making these sensible, and frankly more meaningful, suggestions about how we can honor the brave men and women who, through no fault of their own, fought an illegal war in Iraq on behalf of the country. I do not watch cable news so I am totally ignorant of why Rachel Maddow is so obsessed with the idea of a parade. Ending the war in Iraq is a great accomplishment, but since Iraq was tied to Afghanistan, I don’t think it would be wise to have a parade before all our troops are home from both war zones. Besides, while a parade would be a nice symbolic gesture of thanking the men and women in uniform who fought in Iraq, the list of things you suggest for us to do to express our thanks and gratitude to the military members and their families are, in my humble opinion, more meaningful than just a one day symbolic parade.

I also thank Chipsticks for posting this because I missed it yesterday. It’s people like you, HZ, so full of wisdom, common sense, and compassion that make this site so special! I am happy that tech savvy people are sending this to Ms Maddow. Media pundits need to be reminded that there are wise and thoughtful people who want to do the right thing without being pre-occupied with the limelight of television.

    • March 2, 2012 at 11:43 pm

Hi nathkatun7. I have not seen you in a while. Miss you. However, your thoughts are what I am always thinking when this subject comes up. I hope that some of us will be able to start something good for our troops who are now home even those who may possibly will be going to Afghanistan.

Chipsticks is the best. I do believe because of her wisdom in doing this post that hearts and minds will come together and we can start something so beautiful and helpful in a respectful manner also for our troops. That is my desire. Keeps good thoughts for all of those who want to do something along these lines. HZ
