Toronto Star: When Mitt Romney regaled a Michigan audience this week with childhood memories of a landmark moment in Detroit history, it was a rare instance of emotional candour.

And, perhaps, an even rarer example of time travel.

Romney recalled he was “probably 4 or something like that” the day of the Golden Jubilee, when three-quarters of a million people gathered to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the American automobile.

“My dad had a job being the grandmaster. They painted Woodward Ave. with gold paint,” Romney told a rapt Tea Party audience in the village of Milford Thursday night, reliving a moment of American industrial glory.

The Golden Jubilee described so vividly by Romney …. took place June 1, 1946 – fully nine months before Romney was born…..

Slate: …. In January, workers in the manufacturing sector worked an average of 41.9 hours per week. That same figure was reached for a few months during the winter of 1997-1998, but the last time it was actually higher than that was July of 1945 when America’s factories were working overtime to fight and win World War II….

We’re at the point, in other words, where just to sustain current levels of output American factories are going to need to start adding workers.

Yahoo: Five months after the military’s ban on openly gay service expired, a photo of a young gay Marine’s homecoming kiss has gone viral. Nearly 15,000 people have liked the picture on Facebook, which was posted in a group for gay Marines on Saturday.

The Marine, Brandon Morgan, posted a response on his Facebook wall according to the JoeMyGod blog. “To everyone who has responded in a positive way. My partner and I want to say thank you. Dalan, the giant in the photo, can’t believe how many shares and likes we have gotten on this. We didn’t do this to get famous,or something like that we did this cause after 3 deployments and four years knowing each other, we finally told each other how we felt,” Morgan wrote.

ThinkProgress: An article in The Hill today describing the results of a new poll inaccurately reports that voters want “a lower tax bill” for wealthy individuals and businesses. If anything, the poll shows the opposite.

In tax policy, it’s critical to distinguish between marginal tax rates and effective tax rates … The Hill article fails to sort out this very basic distinction, then proceeds to make a number of apples-to-oranges comparisons that paint a misleading picture of what wealthy people and corporations are paying in taxes now and what people want them to pay.

….. Having repeatedly confused marginal and effective rates, the article misinterprets the poll results to conclude that people want “a lower tax bill” for individuals and corporations….

….Here’s a better explanation: Voters understand what The Hill does not – that wealthy people and corporations actually pay taxes at much lower rates than the top marginal rates on the books. And when asked what they think the “most appropriate” rates should be, a majority of people cite rates that are higher than what the wealthy and corporations are actually paying now.

Washington Post (Editorial): At a time of record debts and deficits, the two leading Republican presidential candidates are proposing a path on taxes and spending likely to add trillions more. That’s the sobering conclusion of the nonpartisan Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget (CRFB), whose board includes six Republican former lawmakers with expertise in budget issues, three Republican former heads of the Congressional Budget Office, and two former Office of Management and Budget directors under Republican presidents.

NY Mag: Of the various expressions of right-wing hysteria that have flowered over the past three years –  goldbuggery, birtherism, death panels at home and imaginary apology tours by President Obama abroad – perhaps the strain that has taken deepest root within mainstream Republican circles is the terror that the achievements of the Obama administration may be irreversible, and that the time remaining to stop permanent nightfall is dwindling away.

… The GOP has reason to be scared. Obama’s election was the vindication of a prediction made several years before…. that demographic and political trends were converging in such a way as to form a natural-majority coalition for Democrats.

… if they lose their bid to unseat Obama, they will have mortgaged their future for nothing at all. And over the last several months, it has appeared increasingly likely that the party’s great all-or-nothing bet may land, ultimately, on nothing. In which case, the Republicans will have turned an unfavorable outlook into a truly bleak one in a fit of panic. The deepest effect of Obama’s election upon the Republicans’ psyche has been to make them truly fear, for the first time since before Ronald Reagan, that the future is against them.

Sue, I hope that you are okay with the candle incident. Right? Try using more of the tea-candles. They will burn low and out safer, I find. I have the entire up and downstairs going at the same time, but I only use the teas in holders ofcourse that are safe. I only burn the larger ones when I am in the room alone or with guest so that I can see them and then extinguish them safely.

I know we should stay in the room when burning the candles, but with the tea candles, I love the romantic glow all over the house. However, I also keep snuffers wherever I have the candles in the room. Blowing them out is not safe.

Keep safe my love, we love you too much for the curtains to be destroyed which will ofcourse cause headache, and most of all we want you to be safe. (((((((((((((((((((((( Hugs to our beautiful Sue)))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))HZ

I hate to spoil such an otherwise beautiful thread but that guy from Old Orange named “Meteor Blades” has once again re-ignited the anti-Obama movement on the basis of a decision made by TransCanada Corp on the Keystone Pipeline, which the WH happens to be approving of.
The vitriol in that diary is disgusting – to put it mildly. Here is an example of a comment which didn’t get hr’d, and actually received one rec.

// Thanks for FUCKING the planet Obama (1+ / 0-)

I’m sure the Koch Brothers will reward you handsomely for your betrayal. //

I have not seen that kind of language used in comments against Mitt Romney or Rick Santorum on that site. And the person who posted this is not some Johnny-come-lately troll, but a regular poster, and a “trusted” user who joined the site since 2007. Just a couple days ago, some of us felt that the tone of the place was changing, and others were still skeptical. I guess they had every reason to be. And we need to be extra vigilant – especially when it comes to these pro-left blogsites, now that the President’s numbers are improving, they are not happy and will be looking for all kinds of reasons to drag him down. If I wasn’t at first, now I am 100% convinced that their issues are driven by a personal hatred for the President as well as a need to be constantly in “protest” mode.

Chips my deepest apologies for having to post this, but I just wanted to highlight the kind of stuff that we and this President are up against from people who supposedly call themselves “supporters.” Feel free to delete this or not post at your discretion and I will fully understand. I plan to write a diary over at Old Orange some time later down this week when I have some time. I will be very direct and will be calling names, including that site owner. This is an election year, and I’m not leaving anything to chance with these folks.

I thought they were going to continue building this half anyway because it didn’t need state department approval?

      • February 27, 2012 at 9:34 pm

Ok, just read the article. Basically, they’re building the pipeline from Oklahoma oil fields to the Gulf. It has NOTHING to do with the tar sands, or the northern part of the pipeline, which still needs review. Good Lord! Oil is not going away any time soon, and anything that can be done to bring down gas prices—and blunt GOP lies—should be pursued. These damned PL’ers would rather fall on their swords out of “principle”—and not even take anyone on the other side with them. Useless.

      • 92 hopefruit2
        February 27, 2012 at 9:39 pm

I believe you’re correct Jessica, and this portion of pipeline reportedly does not actually cross US borders. But I don’t have all the facts about this issue, so I can’t really comment too much on it’s relative merits and weaknesses.

But basically, my point is that between now and Nov 6, the President is going to make various decisions, some of which may be great from our vantage point, others of which may be far from ideal. It is not in our best interests to start agitating about stuff in the middle of an election year, when we should be focused on ramping up DEM voter enthusiasm in order to (1) re-elect the President (2) take back control of the house and give Nancy Pelosi the speakership that she deserves and (3) strengthen control of the senate by increasing the # of Democrats there.

It’s not like we haven’t seen the alternative – we’ve seen it, and it’s downright dangerous. Furthermore, we may not always agree with every decision that PBO makes, but any reasonable citizen who has lived in this country for the last 3 years would concede that he is a superior thinker, a leader and an excellent decision maker. This is not the time to be bellyaching about all kinds of nonsense, some of which we don’t even have all the facts save for a few pieces of crappy information that the media has dropped here and there. And that’s exactly what the bullshitters at Old Orange are doing tonight with this keystone issue. All the time the media was breathlessly talking about rising gas prices, where was the Mr. Blades with his anti-Koch diary calling them out for manipulative oil speculation?!?! Even Nate Silver was busy tweeting that more than 2/3 of the country support the Keystone Pipeline. Let’s see what the NY TIMES will now say and lets see the corresponding polls from Mr. Silver.

        • 93 Jessica
          February 27, 2012 at 9:45 pm

I’m not agitating anything, I honestly think both sides make this a bigger deal than it needs to be.

    • 95 utaustinliberal
      February 27, 2012 at 9:38 pm

This is another reason I despise emoprogs. They don’t bloody read and comprehend information in a logical manner. PBO did NOT approve the tar sands section of the Keystone permit which is very crucial for their plan. TransCanada still has to reapply for that permit. Also PBO approved the southern section of the Keystone pipeline from Oklahoma to Texas and the only thing TransCanada can do is drill for regular crude oil. They don’t have the permit or go ahead to link it up from Canada to America. Environmentalist extraordinaire Bill McKibben who is against Keystone admitted as such when he said that although he disagreed with PBO’s decision, PBO did NOT approve the tar sands permit just the permit for regular old crude oil. Emoprogs need to STFU with their BS.

      • February 27, 2012 at 10:25 pm

Ut, thank you for explaining this so clearly. Facts get in the way of hatred so you won’t see them presented at emoprog sites. Hate is the food that stirs their souls. If the Republicans hadn’t pushed the decision on Keystone into an impossible time frame, the pipeline problems would have been carefully studied and addressed and a reasonable compromise achieved. As usual, the emprogs fell right into the Republican trap. They make fools of themselves.

hf2, MB is pathetic. Fortunately, the orangedrudge has way less impact, as do FlatulentDogLake, huffypufferey, etc than they did in 2008/2010. The ring-around-the-drain cretins who care about what MB has to say about anything have imperceptible impact. The less clicks they receive, the better. The more clicks TOD, TPV, etc receive, even better. We can crush them on Twitter, for sure. The only orangedrudge link I’ve ever tweeted was the one, today, of the two Marines embracing and did so because it was kos himself who posted the diary. He had to admit that repeal of DADT was a good thing and he knows no other President would have done it as effectively as President Obama did.

Bob, I’m not sure that any of these groups ever had any power, except in their own minds. Of all the people in and out of the Democratic Party that I have known and have spoken to over the years, I have never heard one reference to any of these sites–none, nada. People like MB and KOS himself are legends in their own minds and no one else cares what they say. All the sites you mentioned had their day during Bush’s years and cultivated a lot of over-inflated egos, but they’ve been completely out of tune with the times since PBO was elected and are just plain irrelevant. I have never bought into the idea that these idiots influenced the 2010 elections. Democrats were tired after 2008, states fielded mediocre candidates, Barack Obama was not on the ticket and the tea party, incensed at PBO’s presidency, were super-motivated and highly funded to get to the polls. I had lots of Democrats tell me they couldn’t get excited about the candidates running and couldn’t muster up the strength to put on a push and that, not the emprogs, gave us the horror of 2010. Now people are waking up to what happens when you go to sleep on the job and they’re getting fired up and ready to go. Plus they have the most dynamic and charismatic leader in the world to vote for. Makes a difference.

And, by the way, thank you for helping to turn twitter into an instrument of power. You are a twitter hero.

Heh. I’ve been breaking my vow of comment “silence” too much, but one more here since it’s so relevant. I left this comment copied below the other day in regard to Peak Progressives, and you just tonight gave piece of evidence #2,341 as to why the below is true:

“YES!!! I’ve been feeling exactly this for quite a while now, and you put into text perfectly. Al Giordano was the first to open my mind to this thinking, since I used to argue we should try to win Peak Progressives over since we agree on a lot of issues. Al puts it as these are the last people you “want in your foxhole” when going to battle, and these last few years are the ultimate proof.

As people like Bobfr are consistently pointing out, we’re on the verge of winning the American Civil War once and for all. This is the battle of our lifetimes, and we cannot waste precious energy trying to coddle every little whim of these wishy-washy, fickle Chicken Littles and often latent “progressive” racists.

I don’t want to rehabilitate any relationships with places like DailyKos (I never had one there personally) and such, and if there are people there who get it, they should leave those places immediately. We don’t want them on our team. We’ll be stronger in the long run by pushing them away. Please “pure progressives” just go form your own Party and run your own candidates and complain about President Obama incessantly, and forcibly “Occupy” things without first consulting with the 99% you claim to represent. We’ll all be happier for it. We don’t want you. You don’t want us.

Now let’s get back to business and down to your local OFA office. Stanley Ann’s son is counting on us to get back the House and 60 votes in the Senate. We’re going to “Occupy” Congress with the kind of “general assembly” the Founders planned at the beginning. The ballot box is how the 99% speaks. Let’s go get it!”

Good evening ‘bonkers’ (which you DEFINITELY ARE NOT), as you note:

“This is the battle of our lifetimes, and we cannot waste precious energy trying to coddle every little whim of these wishy-washy, fickle Chicken Littles and often latent “progressive” racists.”

        That’s IT.

It’s not hyperbole. It’s not ‘reality TV.’ It’s not a game.

We are in the defining moments of the transformation of the Bill of Rights into actuality or it’s total destruction by those remaining bigots who now know the demographics of the American population and the sentiments of the vast majority among those demographics really DO NOT LIKE greedy, racist, misogynistic fascists.

Everyone needs to realize this is not just another 4 year cycle general election, back and forth, between parties.

We must now bring total closure to what should have been the process after 1865 and could well have been had President Lincoln not been assassinated.

PRESIDENT GEORGE W. BUSH APOLOGIZED A LOT – BUT CLEARLY “IOKIYAR”

A simple Nexus search by Chris Weigant exposes the breathtaking hypocrisy of Santorum, Gingrich, Romney and the mainstream media regarding President Obama’s apology to the people of Afghanistan. The media harping on this Republican Party manufactured controversy is repulsive. It’s just infuriating.

The media is constantly being led around by the nose with GOP fake outrage. How much research did the mainstream media do on this story? Whatever happened to the principles of journalism? I hope this post will be tweeted and emailed far and wide. It especially needs to be sent to the network and cable stations that have been carrying water for the GOP. They should be ashamed of themselves.

When Barack Obama does the same thing Bush did four years ago, however, all sorts of nasty things are said about him by prominent Republicans. Apology Derangement Syndrome seems to be erasing Republicans’ memory. They’ve made such a honking big deal out of Obama’s apology that the news media has jumped on the story and continues to push it.

Of course, all of these “journalists” have the same access to the Lexis Nexis site which I have. Searching for these stories isn’t all that hard to do. I’m sure that every other president in modern history has made similar apologies at some point while they were in office, I merely used George W. Bush as the handiest of examples to show what hypocrisy and selective outrage Romney, Santorum, and Gingrich are currently displaying.

To put it another way: this story wasn’t all that hard to research and write. One wonders why the overpaid folks in the mainstream media haven’t done the same research. Especially on that Koran-shooting story.

So true, Sue. I watch this AM on C-SPAN a live briefing from a Pentagon spokeman and it was very informative. Plus there was a gentleman in Kabul who also took questions. I believe we are in good hands with POB and VPBiden and Panetta. That was my take-away. However, I was in so much discomfort, I negelected to get the proper names of the officials. But it was very good.HZ

Nice round-up Chips. Will Romney ever stop spewing BS. So now he was present and participated at an event when he wasn’t even born? Geez. The picture of the Marine joyfully kissing his partner gladdens my heart. I saw it on twitter earlier and did my part to spread it around. That picture is another sign of the progress this country has experienced under PBO. And as usual the cherry on top of the cake that is your wonderful round-up; the GOP is going batshit crazy episode 102.

    My own poll for GE

    1. In terms of presidential poll (EV’s), who we should e root for as their candidate – sick rantorum or the weird willard ?

    2. In terms of preferential coattails (senate & congress), which rethug will give us the majority – sr or ww ?

    • February 27, 2012 at 9:41 pm

Oooooooh, I’m torn, amk. Methinks a landslide would be guaranteed if it was St Ricky, but I have an overwhelming desire to see PBO whip Willard’s ass. Mind you, the way Willard is performing, there could be a complete Dem landslide there too.

      What do you think?

      • February 27, 2012 at 9:57 pm

I think it would be better to beat Willard because if it were Santorum, everyone would write it off as the President beating a crazy person. Beating Willard would mean beating all the 1%er Neocon sell America off for parts economic and foreign policy nonsense. Remember Willard has baby Bush’s economic and foreign policy advisers on his campaign staff. We need this election to be a mandate that says we’re done with all that supply side voodoo.

I suspect the GOP establishment will fix the votes so that Romney will be the nominee. They know that he’s their best shot, and Karl Rove has decided that he’s the strongest of their weak bunch.

      • February 27, 2012 at 9:59 pm

        i am torn too, chips

With weird willard, the coattail will be great since the fundies will be turned off and not turn out. But PBO himself might be in slight trouble given the wall street money and msm’s love affair with him and the weather-vane indies falling for all kindsa lying disgusting attack ads from the willard’s cu corporate sleazeballs.

With sick rantorum, it might be the other way. PBO will win in a landslide but the fundies will turnout in full vengeance in all those lameass CD’s and may put the senate and congress in danger.

        It’s a hobson’s choice.

I agree with forus below. The boneless wonders called dems better start getting the back of their own prez, like right now, if they ever wanna win.

    • February 27, 2012 at 9:48 pm

I would prefer Santorum as I think his scaremongering will frighten enough Independents to hopefully vote a straight Dem ticket. I hope those congress critters get their shit together this time – exactly unlike what they did in 2010 running away from Obama and health care.

    • February 27, 2012 at 9:59 pm

‘jesus freak’!!!! Haven’t heard or used that since HS when it was popular for hypocritical teenagers to cry about the bible, but never live by it. One ‘Jesus freak’ called a classmate a slut, then did it in the back of a car in the student parking lot at lunch time. Ha! I’d almost forgotten that! Boy howdy did that juicy piece of gossip make its rounds! Infact, I don’t remember her graduating with us. Think she left soon after. 😆
Ps- her family moved, no one bullied or teased her. Our school was broken up into groups.’Drama freaks’, ‘Jesus Freaks’, ‘AP kids,’ ‘Cheerleaders’ etc. I loved my school,. Even though we had different cliques, you could move between them. My main clique was made up of drama freaks, cheer leaders, hippie chics, my best friend the valedictorian ( a total egg head with a jones for the then long dead Kurt Cobain) and other AP kids……. But no Jesus freaks. They were big-ass fakes living in glass houses.

I’m rooting for Willard. Even though PO will kick his butt in the election, Santorum doesn’t deserve to be on the same stage with PO.

    • February 27, 2012 at 10:30 pm

I’m torn because Romney and Santorum represent two forces that are keeping this country back from its full potential. I want Obama vs. Romney because America needs to see the big money men who are controlling this country and manipulating policies to benefit themselves. I want to see Obama vs. Santorum because we have about 27% of this country that are complete whack jobs. They cry FREEDOM while robbing you of yours – legally. They raise their fists at Iran while taking concrete steps to also turn us into a theocracy, They are racist, sexist, ignorant bigots and much of this country including the MSM is in denial. They look at these people and label them “Real Americans”.

One of these have to get exposed on a major scale in the general election. i don’t think both can be done at same time. Too much trauma.

I do want to make a unrelated (sort of) prediction. The MSM and analysts are ridiculing Romney right now. Saying that he’s a very weak candidate but watch. As soon as he picks a VP the narrative will be that it was a master move and now its going to be a real fight against Pres.Obama. Romney’s gonna have his “comeback”. Trust me, the press is dying for it. Too much good news for Pres.Obama lately. Can’t have that.

It’s REALLY important for Michigan Dems to vote for Democrats in the down ticket races. This is from an email from the Chairman of the Michigan Democratic Party.

“Aside from the presidential primary, there are critical local elections all over the state, especially in two state House districts, HD 29 (Pontiac and Auburn Hills in Oakland County) and HD 51 (southern Genesee County). ..There have been misconceptions that only Republicans can vote tomorrow. Every registered voter in Michigan has the right to vote on Tuesday, Feb. 28…And whether you choose to vote in the Democratic or Republican primary, you can still vote for the candidate of your choice in local races, regardless of party…Please, make your voices heard in communities across the state tomorrow – GET OUT AND VOTE!”

Last fall, the Energy Department finalized a $1.2 billion loan guarantee in support of the California Valley Solar Ranch (CVSR) — a new solar facility in San Luis Obispo County, California.

Today, six months later, approximately 350 skilled workers, including electricians, carpenters and iron workers, are busy constructing the 250-megawatt plant. You can see many of them in the video above. The California Valley Solar Ranch is enabling these workers to support their families and remain in the area rather than traveling out of town in search of work.

In addition to creating job opportunities, when CVSR is operational in 2013, the Energy Department expects the plant to avoid over 425,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide annually and produce enough clean electricity to power over 64,000 homes.

PSA Peugeot Citroen (UG) may announce as soon as this week plans to sell a stake of about 7 percent in the French carmaker to General Motors Co. (GM) as part of a development alliance, people familiar with the matter said.
The deal would involve a standstill agreement by which GM would not take a greater holding in the Paris-based carmaker without permission, said the people, who asked not to be identified because the talks are private. Peugeot may offer additional shares through a rights issue as part of the transaction, the people said.

A Good Read from Norbrook’s Blog:

    There’s Always a First – A Memory For African-American History Month
    http://cendax.wordpress.com/2012/02/26/theres-always-a-first-a-memory-for-african-american-history-month/#more-3525

    ———————————

“Much of my childhood was spent in the Adirondacks, but in my teens we moved to Central New York. In many ways, it was similar. Small towns, rural, mostly farming communities. The area was also predominantly white. One of the people we got to know was a “general handyman” and carpenter who was called in when you needed something fixed, and fixed right. His name was Everett Holmes, and he lived in a small village a few miles away called Bridgewater. He was one of the few African-Americans in the area, and you’d have been hard-pressed to find anyone who didn’t like him. Which is why in 1974, he made New York State history.

Bridgewater is a small village, sitting at the crossroads of US Route 20 and NY Route 8. At the time, it had about 100o people, and only 10 black families. A typical farming community for the area, really. In 1974, they had an election for mayor, and there was only one candidate on the ballot, a Democrat named Gerald Wisnoski. The voters in the election wrote in another candidate, who won: Everett Holmes. Why?

“Everett Holmes is a man who takes an interest in the village. He does little things for people, and they really appreciate it. That’s why he was elected.”

“One of the great guys that ever was. He’s lived here all his life, and if he sees anything that needs to be done, he does it. He made the park and keeps it up without a cent of pay.”

“Everett was elected because he had a good record as a trustee and because he was a hard campaigner. He’s a hard worker and he has some good ideas.”

He won because he was well-known, liked, and had a record of being active in the community. So no one in the village, or in the area, was terribly surprised that he’d won. Most of us, on hearing he’d won the mayor’s race there simply shrugged and went “Well, of course he’s good choice.” So how did he make history? Much to everyone’s surprise, including Everett’s:

Mayor Holmes was the first African American elected mayor in New York State history. Mayor Holmes received a letter of congratulations from President Richard Nixon. Holmes served twice, from 1974 to 1976, and from 1978 until his death in 1982.

Which the village found out when national and state news media descended on them…”

The House on Monday evening easily approved a bill that would clarify in U.S. law that it is illegal to trespass on White House grounds or the permanent residence of the Vice President.

Members approved the bill, H.R. 347, under a suspension of House rules, by a 388-3 vote. The non-controversial bill was subject to just a brief debate in the afternoon, seeing the easy vote.

The only “no” votes were from Reps. Justin Amash (R-Mich.), Paul Broun (R-Ga.), and Keith Ellison (D-Minn.).

Detroit automakers race to keep up with sales

DETROIT (AP) – Auto sales are growing so fast that Detroit can barely keep up.

Three years after the U.S. auto industry nearly collapsed, sales of cars and trucks are surging. Sales could exceed 14 million this year, above last year’s 12.8 million.

The result: Carmakers are adding shifts and hiring thousands of workers around the country. Carmakers and parts companies added more than 38,000 jobs last year, with industry employment averaging 717,000 for 2011. And automakers have announced plans to add another 13,000 this year, mostly on night shifts.

    WiW….do you see this????:) 🙂 🙂

    The Post’s View
How the GOP would expand the deficit

AT A TIME of record debts and deficits, the two leading Republican presidential candidates are proposing a path on taxes and spending likely to add trillions more.

Oh…you must go read this. Those “fiscal Conservatives” are a HOT MESS!

Wow. Jonathan Chait, the self-described “liberal hawk” who is intellectually and unabashedly neo-conservative, being feted on TOD. I realize I may be banned for life for this but it would be worth it if it provokes debate purely on merit.

    • February 28, 2012 at 2:28 am

being feted ? just because of his one piece being cited ?

    • February 28, 2012 at 7:32 am

      Oooooh, snark alert!!!

You mustn’t be here too often, Molly, I regularly post Chait stuff because he’s smart and insightful, especially on the state of the GOP.

He’s a neocon? Really? Other than on the issue of Israel, how is he a neoncon?

And if someone isn’t ‘pure’ in their liberal views, they should be ignored? Is that what you’re saying? Jeez Molly, that’s a bit Firebaggerish, isn’t it?

I thought she was the person who was defensive of the President about the teleprompter. I could be wrong but I thought she was under the impression that Jagger was saying something negative and she took his comment as a dig when it was actually just him saying he couldn’t see. Molly just seems very protective of the President but that’s just me.

            • February 28, 2012 at 8:25 am

Maybe you’re right Donna, it just struck me as odd that she came out of lurkdom to make comments about Jagger’s teleprompter crack when she’d hardly ever commented here before. Who knows, it’s not always easy spotting them!

The picture of the two men kissing is disgusting and offensive. I don’t care what two consenting adults do behind close doors but outwardly displaying this behavior is yuk. I weighed whether I would voice my opinion and I can live with my decision to express my thoughts. I am sure that I am not alone.

I think your comment is rude and disgusting. Yes, you’re entitled to your opinion and yes, you’re probably not the only one who feels like that, but hopefully others know how to express their discomfort more tactfully and respectfully . The same way you felt it OK to express yourself here is the same way they felt it OK to express their love and Thank you Lord we all have that right thanks to my President

Mae, consider for a moment that as recently as 40-50 years ago, someone could have posted the same thing about an interracial (black and white) couple kissing. Two adult men who love each other have the same right to kiss in public as any other – interracial, male/female, etc. I see more offensive things on TV and elsewhere everyday – like men calling women “hos and bitches” in song, people using the N-word, Koran burning, etc., Why would you find that “offensive?”

      • 234 Mae who love our CIC
        February 28, 2012 at 9:54 am

Hope I understand what you are trying to say. All things evolves over time.

Forty years ago an interracial couple kissing were jarring for some, but evolution has taken place and the majority of the people no longer hold their initial views. I have control over what I see on television or what I may listen to through song. Any derogatory name calling is disgusting and offensive. Koran burning is wrong because it attacks the Muslim faith. All of these negative behaviors provokes fighting reactions through whatever means necessary to right the wrong doings.

We have laws that protect our freedom. And yes, two men displaying their outward affection to one another is their right. I don’t hate them, I don’t like seeing it, especially two men. I don’t why at this point. I don’t think I would be as critical of two women display of affection.

No one is perfect, most certainly not me.

      February 28, 2012 at 7:16 am

You’re are certainly entitled to your opinion. I don’t think it’s disgusting at all and how is it offensive? They love each other and they should be able to express themselves. How is this affecting your life?

      • 236 Mae who love our CIC
        February 28, 2012 at 10:19 am

collegekay, these two men kissing does not personally affect my life directly. When you have grand children and they see this behavior we are orienting them contrarily to what the Holy Bible says about same sex behavior. We are to love every one and hate the sin.

I have accepted Christ as my personal Savior. In my reading of the Holy Bible and my understanding of the Word as my foundational source, I have a problem with the sin.

I don’t care what two consenting adults do behind closed doors. God gives us free will and He will judge each of us accordingly.

I am not perfect and I don’t profess to be.

    • February 28, 2012 at 7:20 am

You know what is really and truly disgusting and offensive ? men of cloth engaging in pedophilia and then the vatican doing its damnedest to cover it up. church intruding into women’s lives. sex trafficking of children….

Would you be as offended if it were heterosexual couple kissing ‘in public’ ?

      • 238 Mae who love our CIC
        February 28, 2012 at 10:43 am

Any religion , any faith that have people in authority who perpetrate their deviant behavior on children is disgusting and offensive, a government who make and who continue to make laws that are intrusive in a woman’s life is offensive and disgusting, sex trafficking as well. The catholic church want women to continue to produce male children so that it would enable them to continue their perversion. The Catholic church is responsible for enticing and orienting male children into homosexuality. The same with other churches; Eddie Long is guilty of such behavior; enticing and orienting young male children and most of all abusing his trust. And the cycle continues.

It is unnatural for two people of the same sex to engage in mouth to mouth prolonged kissing.

Ah Mae. Needless to say you are more than entitled to feel any way you want about that photo, but I really, really don’t want to read comments like that on this blog – I mentioned before, one of the basic rules of this place is that homophobia, among other forms of bigotry, are not welcome, and it’s just hard to read your comment in any other way. In fact, I would regard your comment as ‘disgusting and offensive’. If you have a problem with two people showing their love for each, simply because they’re the same gender, then please, don’t bring it here. Thanks.

Just because I don’t like the picture you posted, does not equate to me not liking individuals who chooses some one like themselves to engage themselves with each other in a relationship.

    • February 28, 2012 at 7:58 am

Here is a thought before about that photo graph before I get busy today.

I am a Christian and I also believe people have the right to live their lives. I can share my believes respectively and visa versa.

And my believes here is that, the problem is not with the photo graph, they have to give an account on their own.

The problem is with Churches trying to clean up people’s back yard without cleaning up their own.

Aka Santorum (Secretly gay, hypocrite, liar, worships wealth), Newt(womanizer, cheater, racist, liar, hypocrite, worships wealth),
Romney(Flip-floper, liar, hypocrite, thief, worships wealth), The Rest of the Republican Party(Racist, liars, hypocrite, thieves, womanizers, projectors of worst attitudes(ugly-vicious), worships wealth).

So they got a lot to clean up because non of them is going to heaven Period without repentance and turning from their wicked ways..

How many people you know personally have actually LIVED by those rules? And do you find them “offensive and disgusting” for not doing as the bible says?

Bigotry with a bible in one hand is still bigotry. In fact it’s the WORSE kind.

Mae, you know the issue wasn’t you not ‘liking’ the photo, it was your description of an image of two people expressing their love for each other as “disgusting and offensive”, simply because they are the same gender, that was clearly homophobic.

i’m late to this party, but i wanted to add the link to the article in hawaii news. gives some perspective and context.

              http://www.hawaiinewsnow.com/story/17031000/gay-marine-homecoming-sealed-with-a-kiss

i remember when my husband and i were in the lovey-dovey early years together, and he would often just take me in his arms for a kiss (much like we see pbo do with flotus). sometimes we’d hear snarky comments, and sometimes we’d be taken aside and told, ‘there’s a time and a place’. we were showing love, not having sex, but still it was shocking to some people.

for these men, this is the time and place–it’s a homecoming. here in hawaii, people of all ages, sexes, and persuasions hug and kiss all the time. it’s our standard greeting. i think that’s why pbo is always hugging people. some look awkward when that happens. just not huggers.

one thing i like about the international media, is we become familiar with such a wide variety human normalcy! the photo of these guys is
another chance to open our minds to the many ways we can be inclusive. let’s stay together.

The Morning JOE crew and other Repubs lament the state of the Republican Party…but it is their own fault….you have Repubs in Congresss whose main job was to be obstructionists…the Party of NO….putting party before country….hoping the economy would tank in order to deny the President a 2nd term….

then there was the TP folks…birtherism….racism….anti gov..(just keep your hands off my medicare)….

the so -called establishment allowed these forces to gain a foothold thinking that they could control it…..but aha…they could not….witness Baynor not being able to control his caucas in the House…

and now there are two unelectable Repub men running for the Presidentcy….none of the so-called golden boys want to jump into the shark infested waters….they would be eaten alive…

but we democrats and demoratic leaning voters cannot feel smug…because until the President has been re-elected…along with regaining the house and a filibuster proof senate….we cannot breathe easy….

    Pressssssssss ON!!

They can thank their great Reagan for the state of affairs they find themselves in now. He invited the far right religious zealots into the party as the crusaders of true conservatism. They’ve morphed into the teabaggers under the guise of liberty, patriotism, fiscal, and individual responsibility. But they are, nor ever were any of those things. They remain and will be forever, right wing religious zealots. Saintorum has given them the pathway to be more and more vocal about it. The more things change, the more they remain the same. btw, the establishment should have known they were a snake when they took them in.

I’ve had my criticisms of Maddow on certain issues, but on the GOP War on Women, she’s been front and center. And, I agree with the poster, it’s because she’s been so brutal, frank and in your face, that the GOP had the light shined on their misogyny.

    ……………………………………………………….

Say It Over and Over Again
    by mistermix

Some panty sniffer at the Daily Caller keeps count (via) of the number of times Rachel Maddow says “vagina” or “vaginal” on her show, and his report on the site is accompanied by a loop of Rachel saying those words. His critique? She uses that word in a similar way that Keith Olbermann uses “sir”. Devastating.

The Daily Caller doing something lame is definitely in the dog bites man category, but this story is worth noting simply because the nothing they have in this case is especially vacuous. Maddow used some very effective rhetoric and imagery to emphasize how invasive and degrading the transvaginal ultrasound bill was, and the big talking right-to-lifers bravely ran away. The fight isn’t over but it’s pretty obvious that the Caller never expected the centerpiece of their anti-abortion agenda to get beaten so quickly and so decisively in Virginia, and to be irreversibly tainted when it gets discussed in other states, and Maddow is a big part of the reason that happened.
