You know I’d usually prefer to, oooooh, I don’t know, see Newt Gingrich naked than link to Daily Kos, but it’s worth an exception for this – Maryl1 gave us a link last night to a photo diary at DK that is just the most brilliant I’ve ever seen: you can see it here
Good morning, ohana. Hope everyone has a great day. We are enjoying a spring-like day in NE Florida, the azaleas are blooming and the grass is beginning to turn green again.
Enjoy Ceb….there is nothing like a beautiful sunny spring day. Sometimes I just stand and look, listen, and close my eyes to be in the moment. Yesterday was one of those days for me in SoCal, today it’s gray and cold…oh well.
Morning Chips. I’m also an early bird but twitter has me mesmerized. @Electablog and @LOLGOP are live blogging Herman Cain’s and other nut job GOP’s event in Michigan. Makes for a rollicking good time. π
I would like my own congrats photo, please. One of the First Lovebirds would be an excellent start to my day, which Inwould be so generous as to share with others.
**I** ‘ve been hovering around since 7:31am, flipping back and forth in an attempt to catch Chips in the act, but it wasn’t to be. Ah well! I can now relax and get on with the business of seeing what everyone has been doing before heading out for Saturday ‘chores’.
Chipsticks, bless you for directing us to Al Rodgers’ photo diary, “7 days in January!” I recommend it to everyone here. It’s jam-packed with good things that our president has done, and shows clearly the president’s humanity and frighteningly impressive intelligence.
Al Rodgers had been absent from DK for a long time at the time I gave up reading the negative stuff continually showing up on it’s pages. I left shortly after blackwaterdog because she was almost the only bright light there and I chewed up a couple of idiot posters there who needed to be chewed up, and reported a couple of the more foul-mouthed ones to the editorial board.
But the tone appears to have changed, especially evident in the comments on Al’s photo diary — one of his best diaries of his, truly, and praised as such.
Don’t miss it. I’ve got it now on my hard disk, gone through it so far twice and will continue to consult it as this election year goes on.
Thank you for being here, dear Chipsticks. What would we do without you?!
Good Morning, Chips Chica, and residents & visitors of TODville! It feels good to share a bit of my white Saturday morning with you! If anyone would like to participate in a shoveling exercise activity, feel free to come on up! I have a couple of extra shovels, and hot chocolate with a drop of rum if you like. π
Awwww! THANK you! THANK you! Made my morning! π π You are such an awesome friend, CC! Now when I actually get out there to clear the driveway, I’ll have inspiring company – you and my President. Definitely will be the first time I’m shoveling with a smile. Hope the neighbours don’t think I’m losing it. π π
Al Rodgers’ diary is just jaw-dropping and amazing. It really should win some kind of prize. As you read along, you think he can’t top himself, but he does and it gets better and better.
That photo diary is not to be missed!!! Actually I’ll give it the ultimate compliment – while working my way down there were times I forgot that I wasn’t at TODville. π If you haven’t visited it yet please go on over. Thanks for sharing this Maryl1!
‘the ultimate compliment’
exactly right! i was thinking the same thing! very rare to read something from elsewhere that has the same heart, humor, and intelligence.
good morning all, and have a wonderful day.
He’s such a Debbie Downer. Detroit is clawing its way back to the top despite Gov. Snyder’s atrocious policies but to Bob Herbert 1.4M jobs, growing small businesses, growing music and film industries, growing green energy jobs are crap. He’s always negative. Never has anything positive to say. Ugh. Council woman Watson and the gentleman Rishi sure called him out on his BS using facts.
I’m with you, Bob Herbert is the ultimate “Debbie Downer”. This man has to be on some kind of anti-depressant because he has to be the most depressing human being evah!
Al Rogers is one of the greats. From comments looks as if it’s his first in a long time. One of the commenters missed BWD. People coming home: we’re IN!
Well, they should miss BWD Taiping. She was the only reason I kept going to DK. When she left and I found out where she had gone, I never went back. They had their chance with BWD and they blew it.
+ 1,000,000,000 Jackie, I was only ever an occasional lurker at that place, but the treatment of PBO supporters, like BWD, was something else – it was pure poison. No matter what appears there now, even a diary as magnificent as this, I’ll never forget what that site became. Ever.
Let me add my voice of astonishment at Al Rogers diary. Great collection of facts and context. I hadn’t been to dKos since it fell off the cliff ages ago. I almost didn’t click the link!!
As a Kossack, I miss BWD like crazy. SO sorry she was forced to leave. Times are a-changing, though. Unicorns farting rainbows are no longer the standard for most. π
No way I’m ever putting page clicks and money into Markos’ pockets after what he and the flying monkeys there did to POTUS and his supporters, or Markos’ “purge” of disproportionately black commenters. I’m thankful that places like TOD exist, so that I can get my fix of POTUS and FLOTUS pictures without having to feel that I am financially supporting a group of people who were one of the most significant sources of propaganda against HCR, against the oil spill response, against the bailouts, and too many of POTUS’ initiatives to count.
Never again, there are too many independent, not for profit spaces which are far better alternatives.
That’s up to you, gn, of course. I don’t indulge in flame wars there, I just read and comment, (and I use AdBlocker). I loved BWD and the Pootie Diaries. A lot of people have changed, a lot haven’t.
Yeah, I hear you (and I remember really liking your commentary; waving hello!). I’m not a fan of trying to tell other people what they can or can’t do, and am a fan of speaking for myself only. And in that capacity (speaking for me only, anyone is free to disagree as they please), I find dkos to be toxic sludge which even the best photo diaries can’t save, because the ugliness comes from the top. I found out via TPV that Markos decided to “purge” his site, and that while only about 3% or less people there are black, a third of the people he banned were black. They’re purists when it comes to POTUS, yet supported a Republican in the Florida senate race over a bona fide liberal, progressive Dem. Complete double standards. There is just no way in the world…if they choose to work towards their own best interests and stop promoting propaganda to weaken POTUS, that’s good for them, but as far as I’m concerned, it’s a wrap. And I doubt highly that POTUS is about to get more than the most tepid, mealy-mouthed support in the first place (“we’re disappointed, he’s not doing enough, but I guess maybe he’s better than Santorum”). Who needs enemies with allies like that? My vote is for skipping over the media products of ratf**kers, profiteers, opportunists, and propagandists, who have zero respect for POTUS’ ardent supporters (I’m telling y’all, they may tolerate Reynolds now, for page clicks, but the management of dkos has ZERO respect for it beyond what it puts in Markos’ pockets). Just my two.
I didn’t watch the last GOP debate but I did see a clip from The Colbert Report and it really stuck in my head. John King asked each candidate to name a misconception that the media or voters (?) have about them and Romney started yammering on about a completely different subject. Romney refused to answer the question while that dummy John King says “fair enough”. So I’m thinking, “so everything we believe about this guy must be true” – No core, no conviction, phony, weak, only cares about the 1%, total asshole, not human etc.
John King gave Romney a chance to tell us who he is and he refused to answer the question? Wasn’t Pres.Obama and FLOTUS asked a similar question recently by Ms. Walters? They answered it with no hesitation but Romney refused to answer the question and thought he was being cute. I find that as disturbing as his statement that we should only talk about income inequality in a “quiet room”. What the hell is wrong with this guy?
Wow, go brooklyn, that’s a loaded question. He’s an arrogant, elitist ass, who’s basically had everything given to him in his life. I think, in his heart, Romney resents like heck having to work so hard for what he believes is his God-given right to be president. We peasants annoy him with our pesky questions, but he’s been told to “hide” his natural distaste of ordinary people, which is why he comes across so phony. He’s never had to “comport” with the great unwashed masses, so he doesn’t know the lingo or the body language. When he “tries” he’s actually laughable. But what I find most irritating about him is his natural smugness that all the training in the world can’t disguise.
Someone posted a college photo of Willard where he had on a coat, tie and white shirt. I’m a little older than Romney and I don’t recall any guy–even rich ones– looking like when I was in college. Was he ever real?
I still think he’s going to be the candidate. He’s has absolutely no redeeming personal or professional qualities and I do believe we’ll have the possibility of a landslide if we all work hard for it.
TOTALLY! I want skid marks too. I want the Republicans taken to the cleaners so there is NO misreading the American people’s rejection of their terrible policies. I hope they self destruct in the shit of their own making. Then we can finally get something done. I also hope that we re-elect or elect Democrats who support our President, so they pass laws that bring in a period of prosperity and peace for all Americans.
I plan to watch my tape of the last GOP debate today and know I’ll have to take lots of breaks as I cannot stand the lies about our President that come out unchallenged in their so called debates. To me they are merely platforms to spew their lies when they are not held to debate rules or challenged on telling truths.
I remember when in the ’08 VP debate Sarah Palin was given a question and she came back with you may not like my answer and say I am not answering the question but I am going to use my time to say what I want to say. Those were not her exact words but my memory of the gist of what she said. By those words she opened herself up into turning the whole debate format into just an opportunity for her to say whatever she wanted to say and she spewed her talking points. I felt like she totally disqualified herself as a VP candidate with that move.
I see what Romney did by refusing to answer the moderators question as the same thing Sarah did in her debate.
Oh yes, I remember that moment in that debate. I thought it was disgusting. I thought Romney was also disgusting. Kids in school couldn’t get away with this. ever. You don’t want to answer the questions? FAIL.
Yes, but if I remember correctly, gb, the audience loved it, apparently, and Ifill let it slide. Some time, somebody has got to stand-up to that kind of bullying willfulness wielded by the RW gangsters. I respected that Biden just let it ride, suspecting, as he probably did, that Ms Serpent Tongue’s lies would just demonstrate her indomitable lipstick-wrapped stupidity. Problem is, some people are impressed by the wily stupid; they are interested in nasty posturing and juvenile one-upmanship, not reasoned debate. That goes for the faux-Left as well and their desire for thuggish gangsta street-drama from our President; image over actual change, as if the former wouldn’t sabotage the latter.
Oh yes! It pisses me off when the moderators just cower. Don’t let me moderate a GOP debate. All of them would be up there red faced from embarrassment.
π Wash your hands! (Teacher part of me…after I see arse picking, nose picking, coughing, sneezing…all day….I say “wash your hands as often as I say, “Tie your shoes!”
Perfect teeshirt! Yo Y’all! Cold and wet out here today, huge rain in the night, maybe snow showers over the weekend. Actually lurked for a long time last night, my hands (and brain) were too tired to comment. Faded away into the night eventually! I had never been to this DK site at all, but thoroughly enjoyed the article linked by maryl1. I will read it again today. Gobrooklyn, believe it or not, I dumped half a quart of yoghurt across the stovetop on Thursday… It was quite a sight to watch it seeing down through the burners. I did not do this purposely! So, got most of it wiped up right away, today will be the detailing…. Will think of you ~ misery loves company, they say! (can be said for the GOP campaign also..Hee! )
okay, gotta share my worst stove-top disaster/mess.
we’d bought a gallon of raw honey from a neighbor’s friend’s cousin, who kept bees and had very cheap but super delicious honey (still had some little bees in there, and bits of hive). but when we opened the can, it was rock solid, so we couldn’t strain it. just a few minutes on the stove to warm it up, sez i. well, you can imagine, that molten honey bubbling up, coating the whole stove top, down in the crevices, with some little crispy areas around the burner. aiyeeeeeeeee! it just took a minute of turning my back, and it was hours of work to clean it up–if i ever really did.
so, gobrooklyn, i say spray the whole thing down with windex, then sit and scratch a bit, spray it again, sit and scratch some more. by evening, you can just wipe it all off with paper towels. yep, old lady style, and i’m not ashamed!
Notice how people have this urge to touch PBO? There’s a picture in Rogers’ diary where you see hands wrapped around his shoulder, waist, prompting the Secret Service to reach for one of the arms around his waist. Pictures like these are so telling about this man that the media want to draw up a narrative up about being out of touch. Just not true.
I did notice that! I think he gives off a complete aura of dignity and is very presidential but when you reach out to him he really opens up. He’s incredibly warm and comforting and human.
That one caught my eye for a long time as well… The SS guy trying to do his job. In so many of the photos, PBO just wades right into the crowds, blends in, but stands out at the same time. I would love to touch his hands. I feel in my heart he is a true conduit for healing energy, and that magnetic field is what people sense, but also what gives him that extraordinary strength and mental clarity. Many here have met him, you can probably affirm this. But even without meeting him, or ever having a chance to meet him, we all feel the change that seems to be coming into reality in this country and around the world. As if we feel safer, more compassionate, more tolerant. It is wonderful to witness this age in our history. We can all pray for him and his family as he asked. Light a candle every day. That is a simple way to contribute to his safety and well-being. He is so loved!
Pamela, I also feel uneasy at all the hands and arms reaching out to the president, and I especially feel for the SS and their difficult job of keeping him safe. So many hands! So many arms! So much love and longing!
Pamela, meta, and africa, you all are so on point. I feel that we have been given a beautiful gift to cherish each day in the Oval Office. He is a man of the people he serves so beautifully with graciousness, wisdom, caring, a loving and compassionate heart, and a core that is so grounded to walk among us with a compass that is so good for the fair and just for all people. I love that about him, and I concur with all of you that people feel that and are comforted in that.
We are so blessed to have him as our President. Love, peace, hope, wisdom, a protected care, and grace surround him daily in each moment, we ask.HZ
Just have to add that I feel this, too, Pamela: “I feel in my heart he is a true conduit for healing energy, and that magnetic field is what people sense, but also what gives him that extraordinary strength and mental clarity.”
The picture of him standing next to Gabby Gifford’s hospital bed, soft touch on her arm, evoked that for me as well, as did the congressional hug. I see him as a conduit for healing, and I think people feel it.
PLEASE be mindful of the fair-weathered friends!! That includes PL and their sites (Daily Kos, Huffington Post, Michael Moore, FDL, et al) They need money. Its election time and they need the hits on their websites to be relevant again. LETS NOT GIVE IT TO THEM. Like the republicans, they got in bed with the wrong. Lets not be that girl who keeps going back to the one who was physically and verbally abusive to her. Lets stay firm.
Al Rodgers is a HUGE PBO fan. Huge. He didn’t post there for a very long time. As someone who was bullied out of DK, every time I have to click there is painful for me, but It’s an election year and getting PBO elected is the only thing that matters, so if there’s good stuff there that worth the tweet, I’ll do it.
Al Rodgers is not just a true PBO fan, he’s also the king of photo diaries and this one is just about the best thing I’ve ever seen over that lunatic place.
Hi Bwd. As I said to Jackie, no matter what goodness appears there now, like this utterly magnificent diary, I’ll never, ever forget what became of DK, and if PBO is re-elected it will be in spite of most of the people there, certainly no thanks to them. It became a cesspit.
So agree with your comment, blackwaterdog. Al Rodgers is a treasure and one of the old-timers of DK, his user ID is something like # 263. I think that protected him from the despicable treatment that you received. IMO, “bullying” doesn’t begin to cover it. Anyway, I was SO happy to have the honor to read/view that magnificent diary. Before you, Al was my hero and he returned with a masterpiece.
My feelings exactly. It was the bullying of you that led me away from dKos at the time, not knowing the choices I had out there. And when they started to lie and make shit up about the ‘motives’ of my President, I bolted.
However, I am happy to see a great many of them not only back in the fold but enthusiastic about fighting this fight and supporting the President. We need these votes. Not everyone can be lumped with FDL and GG — there are some decent people who think that Republicans got everything they wanted instantly by ‘demand’. They didn’t — they got what they wanted over almost two generations of supporting the closest candidate to their world view, and doing it consistently and enthusiastically. I had hoped that 2010 would wake them up, but I’ll take their votes now.
It will always baffle me that so many liberals couldn’t see that. How much more President Obama could have been if the liberal juggernaut that elected him had held together and supported him, he would have been a force that would have stopped the tea party in its tracks. It was never PBO’s ‘transgressions’, it was the whiny left that contributed to watered down legislation and the growing influence of the tea party. I am 62 years old, and I never would have fathomed that the entire left wouldn’t cheer the first major step toward universal health care. They weakened the party, they weakened the President, they weakened the country. Because of all Presidents for the last 100 years, this President’s heart and soul is progressive in the true sense of the word. Had the entire left had his back, the Repubs would not have known what to do.
I fully understand those of us here who can’t forgive the likes of dKos. But in order to put this ship back on course and un-do thirty years of Republican damage, I want these guys back in the fold. I welcome them back. I want to win this election, and 2016, and re-build progressive political discourse and truth in this country. It’s going to take all of us and hopefully we’ll start to work together effectively.
You, bwd, and chipsticks make great points, but I personally don’t trust folks like that to ever really be “back in the fold.” They are out for number #1 and quite honestly could not care less about weakening the left or the country, just getting attention and/or funds from blogging. I personally refuse to consume their media products and reward their behavior with page clicks and more money to purity troll the POTUS.
I agree with you gn. I feel that they are “back in the fold” because it’s once again profitable to support PBO. When PBO wins in November 2012; in 2013, they’ll be back to their disgusting games.
Exactly. And I don’t begrudge anyone their support of a fine diarist like A. Reynolds, or anyone else there (I know I’m coming on strong but this is really just my opinion), but I totally agree with you in not trusting any come to Jesus moments out of the PL. Regardless, I’m just glad that there are so many alternatives!
Glad to know that he is on our side but what makes him think that they won’t do to him in 2013, what was done to you in 2010? That man Dkos is a no good man. He will not change. Why anyone of color would go there is beyond me?If you don’t want me fine, I will take my posts, clicks, and hits elsewhere and to someone who appreciates me. I have too much self respect .Just saying……:)
This makes me appreciate Chips and TOD even more. You are a might, mighty god man!! lol
According to the last I heard of the site demographics, almost no one of color does go there, for the exact reasons that you (and I!) prefer TOD, TPV, POU, and other less toxic spaces.
blackwaterdog, you are just so gracious. In my opinion you were the Queen of photo diaries at DK if Al is the King of them. I don’t remember Al but from reading the comments he was sorely missed as well as you. There were a few comments that people missed you over there. I am glad you started your own place and glad you directed your faithful followers here.
Well, then, I wish he’d do the occasional post at your site, BWD! But, then, I remember wishing you could post at W.E.E. See You before you got your own site. Perhaps, it’s just a matter of time before he goes independent;-) Because clicking on DK makes me feel as though I’m rewarding a nest of vipers who keep good guys around as attractants. Anyway, I do follow the links to the good ones and try to download and beat a hasty retreat.
Good Morning family π Happy Saturday! That diary at DK was, by far, one of the BEST THINGS EVER WRITTEN! All you ever need to know (so far!) is all right there….amazing. If you haven’t read it, you must. If you never click on DK, make an exception this time! I promise you, you will NOT be disappointed.
I agree with BWD…this is just about the best thing ever written over there…the exception was BWD’s amazing work when she was there. Pics I hadn’t seen before π
Click it…just this once. You will be glad you did. Then send it far and wide…to remind people of this once in a lifetime man moving our country in the right direction.
Good morning, West Coast Gail! My real name is Gayle, so I’m another West Coast Gayle! It’s been very, very warm and sunny up here in the north but we may have some rain coming soon. I sure hope so. It’s been a bit of a strange but gorgeous season.
Good Morning ALL….Good morning West Coasters, we’re just getting up and stirring. I hope the sun comes out today, it was so beautiful Thursday and Friday….oh well, #PRESSON!
Good morning JJ. It’s supposed to be sunny today in SoCal, so the clouds are expected to go away, but it’s going to be only 67 today, balmy elsewhere, cold here. Have a great day.
Good Morning Chips and my TOD Family. Great Sat. to all of you. Yes, the Cali folks are up and getting ready to enjoy another beautiful day. The weather is especially lovely out here. Still in bed trying to get the body to throw off the ‘intruders of pain’,however, I will not succumb.
I hope everyone will enjoy the love that has come to you in whatever form that maybe, the joy that is yours to share, the peace that is surrounding you in your space, the comfort that you may have an opportunity to bring to another, the hope for the best for all of our sisters and brothers who are still in need of jobs, homes, a good measure of health, and great experiences for our college students.
Keep praying, meditating on the good things to surround POB and VPBiden and our beautiful FLOTUS and SLOTUS. Dr. Jill. We send out love, and wonderful encouragement to them this lovely Sat. morning.
Get to the coffee, tea for me, put on something sexy and pretty and for our handsome gentlemen, just put on something sexy anyway and wash the car, rake the leaves, take a walk and hold hands with the one you care so deeply about for sure and enjoy this day. Be gentle with your thoughts, and be kind to yourself.
I love you all so very much, and I love you Chips for being here for all of us. A shout out to BWD, Desertflower and hubby, Fred, Sue,Quiet Observer’s dad, Canuck Joyce grandma, and all of our TOD family members. Be strong, be loving, and be peaceful.
“We cannot choose our external circumstances, but we can always choose how to respond to them.” Epictetus
(((((((((((((((((((Hug your day with much joyfulness)))))))))))))))))))))))))HZ
Love you, HZ :)Thank you for thinking of us…..actually, hubby has a (phone) job interview Tues…cross fingers! I need good vibes.Hope you have a marvelous day! hugs!!!
Hi desertflower. Great news. I will be sending out good vibes indeed for you and your hubby for Tues. We are just steps away from a beautiful space for you and hubby. I have to trust and have faith that he will get the perfect gift for him. Hold on and keep thinking good thoughts.
Blessing and peace to you, HZ, as we enjoy our tea! you words are soothing and filled with the finest love. Thank you, I hope your pain desists as the day grows on.
Pamela, thanks for your loving words. I am hoping that the pain will cease as well. It is such a lovely day here in socal, and I am hoping when the pain desists, I will be able to take the car for a spin. It looks so alone in the garage. It is a great day to be a little sexy and sporty with it, so that speaks volumes for this foxy senior.
However, I have to try to use the measures that I find to work for me in dealing with some of the pain. I love music, as you all well know, so I now have Yo-Yo Ma”Simply Baroque” playing and Galway coming up next. Music is a healing source for me. I was able to eat a small amount of food, and ofcourse a couple of cups of my mint tea. So hopefully, these will send the pain running.
I find peace in my tears because they lead me to a higher place of quiet moments to lift up others, President Obama , our service/men and women and their families, my beloved Chipsticks, my TOD family, and my friends and neighbors. My tears are my anchor, and I am sure that is a powerful cleansing for my soul to be able to move on and try to comfort others.
Again, thank you so much for your kindness, Pamela.HZ
Good morning family, Since there’s some discussion of DKos and rest of the PL, I want to share a little of the sermon our pastor preached last week. Title was iFollow: Are you a fan or follower of Jesus? He began by defining each. Those who were ‘fans’ of Jesus loved his compassion, his performing of miracles, etc. UNTIL they heard his “radical” sermons. Then, as the Bible says, “some fell away.” IOW, they cheered Jesus when things were going well but moved away when things got difficult. I immediately thought of the PL–perfect description, huh? Pastor defined a ‘follower’ as a person with integrity who is willing to search for answers and has the courage to change. He gave three qualities of a true follower: 1. Will go WHEREVER necessary—will get out of comfort zone, will get “down and dirty”. 2. Will follow WHENEVER–Willing to not put off work needed and won’t turn away when things get difficult. 3. Will do WHATEVER–Will put “hands to the plow and not look back….” ….must always look forward. I found the entire sermon a good analogy to PO’s philosophy versus the GOP.
On another subject: My mother was taken to the hospital last night. (Remember, she is 93.) Since I am over 2 hrs. away, my brother, who is 45 minutes away, went. When he left at 10:00, she was resting, settled and quiet. They were doing some tests. He is on his way back this morning and will call when he knows something. He didn’t feel she was serious enough for me to make the trip up there, but I am sort of on “standby.”
Tnmtgirl, I read your post after hitting the ‘post comment’. I will say prayers for your mother. Be as peaceful as you can in your spirit. I pray for comfort for your precious mother.
(((((((((((((((((((((Be encourage to hold on))))))))))))))))))) Sending nothing but love and goodness of thoughts to you and your brother during this time. Love you,HZ
Prayers for you and your mother! It’s such a difficult and stressful time of our lives, when we know are parents are aging. I’m sure you are going though a difficult time. I hope your mother pulls through!
GOING TO SEE THE GHOST RIDER 3D MOVIE TODAY…WILL PROBABLY NEED AN EMT BEFORE ITS OVER!…LOLLLLLLLLLLLLL! MY OTHER HALF WANTS TO SEE IT AND I’LL DO ANYTHING FOR POPCORN!..:)
Almost every popular right-wing radio talker, and especially Glenn Beck, attached their names to Goldline. And it turns out, Goldline has been scamming gullible listeners.
Conservative talker-endorsed precious metal retailer Goldline International agreed to a court order this week to repay defrauded customers $4.5 million and overhaul its business practices. The injunction, handed down by the Los Angeles County Superior Court, was obtained by the City Attorney of Santa Monica, California β where the company is based β who had filed 19 criminal counts of fraud and theft against the company last year. Those charges have now been dismissed.
If and individual defrauds and/or commits theft, that person will go to jail. Yet a corporation can just dig into their deep pockets, settle, and VOILA, no one goes to jail/prison. Corporations are more than people; they’re like SUPER people.
This is the kind of B.S. I am talking about, Santorum profess to be such a christian, but it does not concern him one bit when he lies. And I don’t buy the crap that he believes these things he is saying, he knows he has to say them to reach the hater base that he is reach out too. So lie his head off he does, and then try to say what a christian he is. I’m not buying. I’m right with you desertflower, I don’t buy anything which come from Rick Santorum mouth.
What Santorum is trying to do is resurrect the “death panel” meme. He was doing the same thing with his utterly lie-infested about the Dutch euthanizing the elderly against their will. He lies with impunity, bears false witness and is about as despicable as one can be.
I’m lucky I didn’t throw the computer on the floor when I read this. Just posted this on facebook and I don’t care if my few rabid Republican friends and family ‘unlike’ me. I don’t ‘like’ them very much when they can’t see the basic lies in this scenario.
You’re a ‘Christian’ who decided to run for President to stop ACA?!?!?! You demand that women have any and all babies, and then deny them coverage and leave them up to the whims of insurance companies IF their parents are lucky enough to be employed and by the grace of their employer, have health insurance? You have no COMPASSION for the working mother who is afraid if she stays home to care for her child, she’ll be fired?
Oh, wait — these people are deficient by ‘choice’.
How in the world is our President not at 80% approval and this asshole at -70%?!?!? What kind of country have be become?
The GOP…all they have are lies and fear-mongering. They can not hold OBL over our heads anymore now that PBO had him taken out, so they are using every trick in the book and it aint working for them.
Nice dailykos link, very interesting column. But in my mind BWD did work like that everyday, I still think about those days, before the PLr’s turned into baggers.
The right wing is going batchit crazy over the WH apologizing for the Koran burning in Afghanistan that got troops killed. On the HuffyPuffy link, they are rehashing the “Obama is a Muslim” nonsense, saying all he does is apologize, and even one post suggested “He’s not one of us.”
Yeah, because what we need is ANOTHER out of touch Republican President who will drag our respect in the world down to the shitter and get us ATTACKED again… π what planet do these clowns live on again? Are they forgetting that President Obama is the president who smoked a bunch of Somali pirates, executed bin Laden and a bunch of top Al Qaeda leaders? And they think Pope John Sweater Vest, Willard, Speaker Moonbase or Grandpa Ron would be MUCH BETTER on foreign affairs? PUH-LEEAZE!!!!
They are appealing to the end of the world EVILgelicals!
This group of American EVILgelicals, are a Cult, sort of like Scientology.
In Great Britain, Protestants are not as hateful!
Just saying!
nintendowii10, what else would we expect from those people? If this President were to save their lives, before they would say thanks to this black man, they would find some way to blame him. I have no problem with the President apologizing for the accidental burning of the Koran. It should have never happen. So to hell with Huffington Post and those right wing bigots. They are the very reason why Jeb Bush came forward and said what he said the other day about his party and those GOP candidates. These are the same crazy ass people who jump all over the President for being a member of Rev Wright’s church for twenty years, now they say he is a Muslim. It is just sick racists B.S. coming from those right wing bigots.
Common sense has left these people, they are guided by their hatred. And what is pitiful is some of the Muslim and hate talk is coming from people who claim to be a christian. We know where these people are coming from, we know what they are all about. My opinion what is terrible is the Republicans who don’t agree with what there party have become will not speak up about it. But Nov. 6th they can speak up and vote for President Obama.
Agree anniebella. BTW, this is what Jeb Bush said: “I used to be a conservative and I watch these debates and I’m wondering, I don’t think I’ve changed, but it’s a little troubling sometimes when people are appealing to people’s fears and emotion rather than trying to get them to look over the horizon for a broader perspective, and that’s kind of where we are”.
As a Floridian, I can attest that Jeb Bush is indeed very conservative. When the Terry Schiavo fiasco was unfolding, Jeb was all over it like horseflies on sh*t.
“The right wing is going batchit crazy over the WH apologizing for the Koran burning in Afghanistan that got troops killed. On the HuffyPuffy link, they are rehashing the βObama is a Muslimβ nonsense”
So, the Republicans are spinning that they don’t have to love Robney to vote for Jim, against the President. Fair enough, nut independents have to like you(please see Scott Brown election as example), in order to vote for you, and his favorabilitues suck.
Not that it’s going to work this time, but this is precisely how Republicans changed political discourse in this country over the last 30 years. If democrats did the same, there never would be a Republican president or a Republican-controlled anything.
Still, in this election, independents are the key, and a lot of Hispanics and College kids are independents.
You know, the Presidents base.
Also, even if their is a third party candidate like Huntsman, he will pull from Robneys independent core and not the Presidents.
No one can truly be an ‘independent’ in the traditional sense of the word — not in this political climate. So if you don’t know whether you support Democratic or Republican policies, then what are truly is uninformed and influenced by the last shiny object you see.
I read the other day where the President’s coalition this time may not need the low-information independents as has been true for decades in presidential politics, but that he appears to be building a firmer coalition of actual supporters that of course include the younger voters, Hispanics and increasingly, women in general.
I still believe that if more ‘progressives’ understood how to win elections andaccepted moving their agenda down the field, we’d be in much better shape and on our way to remaking political discourse.
In a routine Saturday morning, President Obama watched his daughter Sasha play basketball at a community center in Chevy Chase, Md. The presidential motorcade left the White House just after 8:30 a.m., according to pool reports.
I can just imagine how Sasha feel seeing her Dad there supporting her. Not the President of the United States, but her father. I love to see this President showing that he loves his family.
Santorum has a first class education himself, the nut, and he knows it. He’s pandering to the worst of us and those that suck it all in are simply being used. The poor, gullible schmucks.
They live in a bubble, where all of their news comes from Fox and Rush. They think they are the American people.
Thanks Bill Clinton, for the telecom bill.
I am forever astounded by people who should be intelligent fall for this crap. We have a friend, a retired stockbroker, who is liberal on social issues but Republican on everything else. He actually gets all of his news from Rush and Fox. It’s astounding to me.
Rick Santorum on Thursday afternoon slipped away from the campaign trail to speak to a fundraiser for a supportive super PAC, despite denying previous reports that he planned to do so.
Lying must be in their DNA. Look at the Romney post below. It’s what they do….they can’t tell the truth because if they did, NO ONE would EVER vote for them!
12. Romney’s new attack ad says Rick Santorum voted to confirm Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor.
Santorum left the Senate in 2006 — three years before Sotomayor’s confirmation. [Update: It looks like the Romney camp played fast and loose on this one, showing Sotomayor with President Obama in 2009 when she was nominated for the Supreme Court, but counting Santorum’s vote when Sotomayor was a lower-court nominee. The implication for viewers is that Santorum backed Sotomayor for the high court, which is not true, when he and other Republicans did support her confirmation to a lower court.]
Foreign Policy columnist Michael Cohen noted yesterday that he understands that “politicians mislead and occasionally fib,” but added, “[H]onestly, I’ve never seen anyone do it as brazenly as Mitt Romney.”
Good morning Chips and TOD family. It’s a beautiful snowy morning in MT. After a crazy week it was so wonderful to check in and see the West Wing Week and read Al Rodgers great diary. It was hard to go to DK but so well worth it! What a diary. Al Rodgers is a writer beyond measure!!!!!
BWD we miss your blog, you are the one that brought us out of the darkness. We miss your writings but we are thankful you are here. Chips, words cannont express how much I love this place!!! This is the healing place!!!
THIS is what the right-wing war on Muslims has wrought. I hope that the soldiers who burned the Qurans are held criminally liable for these deaths.
KABUL (Reuters) – Two Americans believed to be a U.S. colonel and major were shot dead in Afghanistan’s interior ministry on Saturday, security sources said, while rage gripped the country for a fifth day over the burning of the Muslim holy book at a NATO base.
A spokeswoman for NATO’s International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) confirmed two of their servicemen had been shot dead in central Kabul by an individual who turned his weapon on them. She declined to say if the killer was a member of the Afghan military or police.
That is just heartbreaking,LL. Instead of helping PBO try to clam the waters, the republicans are throwing gasoline on the fire. Sorry for the mixed metaphors.
That brought tears to my eyes too. Al’s diary was so emotional for me. PBO is such a humble man. He let’s the people who are envolved talk about these events.
We must work to reelect PBO and work in all the states to elect a democratic Congress!!!! Press On!!!!
Good Morning Tally. ((((((((((((((((((((((Hugs covering your tears))))))))))))))))))))))))) Love you our dear and precious Tally. Your intellect always lifts my spirit so much. Give us something wonderful again from your pen, please. Love you, Tally.HZ
Last night, Rachel Maddow pulled back the curtain on Rick Santorum’s lying about euthanasia in Holland. She interviews a Dutch journalist who says they are astonished at lies coming from Rick Santorum. They are very angry and want to set the record straight.
They aren’t mad at US, they are mad at HIM for spewing these lies to the uninformed American electorate too ignorant to find out if this is true or not!
They will be mad at us if he gets closer to the nomination. This country is becoming a laughingstock. Thank god we have a President who has helped us regain our standing in the international community.
Bobfr, I want to thank you as well. You are so on point in your thoughts on Twitter. Thank you for all that you do to help us to stay focus and support our President.HZ
We ordered and viewed the enhanced version of the Lion King after this. We really, really enjoyed it, especially equating the cub, grown up, to President Obama.
And Canada’s Bush Lite drags the country further down by using GOP tactics.
Elections Canada has traced fraudulent phone calls made during the federal election to an Edmonton voice-broadcast company that worked for the Conservative Party across the country.
While the agency investigates, aided by the RCMP, the Conservatives are conducting an internal probe. A party lawyer is interviewing campaign workers to find who was behind the deceptive “robocalls.”
Elections Canada launched its investigation after it was inundated with complaints about election day calls in Guelph, Ont., one of 18 ridings across the country where voters were targeted by harassing or deceptive phone messages in an apparent effort to discourage Liberal supporters from voting.
As I argue in my TPV piece, conservatives just don’t care about democracy.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) β A new claim has surfaced that the Mormon church has posthumously baptized a Holocaust victim, this time Anne Frank.
The allegations come just a week after The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints apologized when it was brought to light that the parents of Holocaust survivor and Jewish rights advocate Simon Wiesenthal were posthumously baptized by church members at temples in Arizona and Utah in late January.
Researcher Helen Radkey, a former Mormon who revealed the Wiesenthal baptisms, said this week she found Frank’s name in proxy baptism records dated Feb. 18, showing the ritual was performed in the Santo Domingo Temple in the Dominican Republic.
Galaxy season is two weeks away – just a reminder – If you want to sit with LARS (Riot Squad) in 138/137 – feel free to go through me. I’m a LARS season ticket holder, and can get you a good price.
That being said, I long for the day when MLS has a “normal” season running from August to May. Then again, there is something to be said for warm summer nights at HDC.
I think they have done this to Anne Frank MORE than once.
Radkey said she discovered that Annelies Marie “Anne” Frank, who died at Bergen Belsen death camp in 1945 at age 15, was baptized by proxy on Saturday. Mormons have submitted versions of her name at least a dozen times for proxy rites and carried out the ritual at least nine times from 1989 to 1999, according to Radkey. But Radkey says this is the first time in more than a decade that Frank’s name has been discovered in a database that can be used both for genealogy and also to submit a deceased person’s name to be considered for proxy baptism — a separate process, according to a spokesman for the church. The database is only open to Mormons.
I absolutely cannot fathom the thinking behind these posthumous baptisms… Are they attempting to save Souls in retrospect? Is that any of their responsibility?
Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints believe that baptism is a prerequisite for entry into the kingdom of God as stated by Jesus in John 3:5: “Except that a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God” (KJV).
The LDS Church teaches that performing baptisms for the dead allows this saving ordinance to be offered to those who have died without accepting or knowing Jesus Christ or his teachings during their mortal lives. It is taught that this is the method by which all who have lived upon the earth will have the opportunity to receive baptism and to thereby enter the Kingdom of God.
The LDS Church teaches that those in the afterlife who have been baptized by proxy are free to accept or reject the ordinance done on their behalf. Baptism on behalf of a deceased individual is not binding if that individual chooses to reject it in the afterlife.[29][30]
Any member of the LDS Church, male or female, who is at least 12 years old and holds a current temple recommend may act as a proxy in this ordinance. Men must also hold the Aaronic Priesthood prior to entering the temple. A man must act as proxy for a deceased man, and a woman must act as proxy for a deceased woman. The concept of a spiritual proxy is compared by some in the LDS Church to the belief that Jesus acted as proxy for every human when he atoned for the sins of the world.[31]
Only an adult male holder of the Melchizedek priesthood who has undergone the Endowment ordinance may baptize others as proxies for the dead.
There are two takes on this, speaking as a reluctant citizen of this godforsaken state for the last 45 years and an Episcopalian —
1. It’s a meaningless ritual that actually means nothing and does nothing. Ignore it.
2. It’s an arrogant ritual which offends a huge portion of people of all faiths and the church fathers need to be hit up the back of the head and forced to stop the practice.
As for me, I don’t believe in an afterlife (my sincere apologies to believers) my ashes will be dug into my northern rose bed to nourish the plants.
As usual, such loving, caring and compassionate thoughts from my family here. Thank you! Update: My mother is in good spirits and is fairly alert–for her at 93 and some dementia. The doctor came in late morning and explained that he took her off her BP medication (slowing her heart rate too much) and also took her off coumadin and suggested that the best course of action MAY be a pacemaker…..he will know more Monday after more tests/consultation. My brother indicated that the way the doctor explained it, he wouldn’t have a problem going the route of a pacemaker. My answer was that we’ll wait and see what else is known first of the week. My question (and my daughter’s) is: Is that the right course to follow for a 93+ year old who has congestive heart failure and dementia.
My brother and I agree that I shouldn’t make the trip, mainly because within 10 seconds of my walking in the room, she will become “so sick.” Sad that it is that way, but it is. I’ve asked some other friends to stop by today and tomorrow.
Tnmtngirl, here you have these to keep your thoughts quiet and peaceful.((((((((((((Hugs, Hugs, and loving thoughts)))))))))))).
Just be quiet in your spirit and ask for peaceful wisdom. It comes when we least are looking for the arrival. Keep door open and your space ready for its arrival during this time.HZ
tnmtgirl, this is a challenging place for a family to be. Do you know what your Mother’s wishes might be? Will it improve her quality of life, given her dementia, or just prolong the agony of a failing brain? In the many years I have worked with the elderly and dying, I have seen some success with pacemakers, and some less so. Palliative care can be a less invasive method of seeing a beloved elder through to a peaceful end of life.
Thanks, HZ. You are such a dear, insightful and uplifting friend. Your words always help! Pamela, my biggest question is the quality of life issue. That will be the first thing I bring up when we get to the serious discussion of what to do.
57 and female, “we may need the votes”. But sure as hell do not need bullies and Dkos privileged folks and others who vote for POB emotionally. By that I mean just because he does not preside how they think he should, they make up white lies and any other color you care to tag because they have a deep rooted problem of a black President.
I blame them along with the media, Hillary haters and Bill wannabe Blackman supporters who thought that this handsome intelligent man could not walk, preside, think and have moral characters, beautiful wife and family all at the same time.
They are waiting for him to mess up inspite all of what he has accomplished and the bs will start all over again.
Yes their votes will be very appreciated, but without the baggage that comes along with it. It takes every ounce of strength in me to keep from responding to people who voted for POB in 2008 having second thoughts. As much I inform them, I just have a hard time understanding what their expectations were. He said it would not be easy. It would take time. All of this he said at the beginning. I am sure I was not the only person who heard and accepted this.
The sun is shinning brightly in TOD land and even brighter on our President, but I don’t trust bullies and liars. They high five you when things are going good. But they are the first to scatter and complain when things are not.
It reminds me of an old R&B classic.”If Your Heart Isn’t In It, Why Didn’t You Tell Me So?”I think the artist is Atlantic Star.
As our President so eloquently phrased it the other day, “We don’t have the luxury of pretending.” I would just add we do not have the patience for pretenders and luke warm support. Not this time!
You are either in this because you know for yourself this man has a vision for ALL of us or you don’t. You should not have to listen to rush, Chris, Rachel, Rev. Al, Alex or anyone else. Whether the polls are up or down should not concern us at all.
After decades of lies and untruth, misguided propaganda, we should expect this and just press foward and onward to 2016.
I am still having a difficult time with supporters and non supporters addressing POB as ,”Obama”.
That’s just me. I am working on that….
YES!!! I’ve been feeling exactly this for quite a while now, and you put into text perfectly. Al Giordano was the first to open my mind to this thinking, since I used to argue we should try to win Peak Progressives over since we agree on a lot of issues. Al puts it as these are the last people you “want in your foxhole” when going to battle, and these last few years are the ultimate proof.
As people like Bobfr are consistently pointing out, we’re on the verge of winning the American Civil War once and for all. This is the battle of our lifetimes, and we cannot waste precious energy trying to coddle every little whim of these wishy-washy, fickle Chicken Littles and often latent “progressive” racists.
I don’t want to rehabilitate any relationships with places like DailyKos (I never had one there personally) and such, and if there are people there who get it, they should leave those places immediately. We don’t want them on our team. We’ll be stronger in the long run by pushing them away. Please “pure progressives” just go form your own Party and run your own candidates and complain about President Obama incessantly, and forcibly “Occupy” things without first consulting with the 99% you claim to represent. We’ll all be happier for it. We don’t want you. You don’t want us.
Now let’s get back to business and down to your local OFA office. Stanley Ann’s son is counting on us to get back the House and 60 votes in the Senate. We’re going to “Occupy” Congress with the kind of “general assembly” the Founders planned at the beginning. The ballot box is how the 99% speaks. Let’s go get it!
Wow, guys, your interpretation of what I said is so far from what I meant. I accept that perhaps I was very unclear when all I meant was that if there are some who are seeing the light, I welcome their vote. Do not project upon me some full-throated defense of everything and anything dKos has done and DO NOT project upon me any defense of FDL or GG or MM, whom I despise and would never defend under any circumstances.
And again it is clear to me to keep my mouth shut.
one thing i love about this site is the way conversations have legs and just run in new directions. i think, in this case, your comments sparked an idea that opened to another perspective that joined with a new thought and so on. yes, by the end of the road, you may not recognize where it started, but that’s good. it means we’re thinking creatively, and helping each other clarify our beliefs. please don’t keep your mouth shut! we need your good mind and heart! we’re all individuals, with our own views, but let’s stay together.
Re-reading it now, I see I didn’t even realize LDS was responding to someone else here. I was into what LDS was saying and responding to that only.
One of the main things I’ve learned (of the many) from watching President Barack Hussein Obama operate is this idea of “No Drama Obama.” In my own life, I have allowed myself to get dragged into way too many unnecessary personal disputes which bog down everything and distract from the overall main goals of the group. The “No Drama” mindset to me means putting the big picture first, and not letting my personal insecurities or foibles hurt the goals of the group. I can work out my own feelings on a personal level then, and keep them separate from my public group work.
Hopefully others can learn from No Drama Obama as well, since it seems to be working out pretty well for him and his family. Fired up!
“The ballot box is how the 99% speaks. Letβs go get it!” Truer words have never been spoken, bonkers! Norbrook and Milt Shook have been hammering home this exact message. Any one who thinks he/she can advance the progressive agenda by not voting, or by backing doomed third party candidates, and thereby facilitating the election of rabid right wing Republicans is living in the land of fantasia!
O/T Coming back online I decided to check my email (unchecked ALL week) and found this dance routine. It may not be your kind of thing (somewhat sensual) but I actually watched it to the end.
Okay, Tally. I did not want to go there. But I am in tears over POB praying and touching Sen. Gabrile Gifford at her bed side. I cannot tell you how this picture effects me so and the embrace between the two of them before the SOTU speech is even more meaningful.
I just don’t understand why anyone would have reservations for not voting for this man in 2016 even if you are Repub. What else can you say?
Hereβs a link to Santorumβs 2006 Senate campaign website, as stored on Archive.org. Right there in black and white is his βCommitment to Higher Education.β
From the text:
βIn addition to Rickβs support of ensuring that primary and secondary schools in Pennsylvania are equipped for success, he is equally committed to ensuring the every Pennsylvanian has access to higher education,β the site reads. βRick Santorum has supported legislative solutions that provide loans, grants, and tax incentives to make higher education more accessible and affordable.β
Hereβs a screengrab:
Follow along…this must mean, if the black guy thinks it’s a good idea to get a good education, then HE’LL have to be against it. I say, that if more and more people are exposed to higher education,in an environment that fosters thought and critical thinking…with people from all races, ethnicity’s etc…the Republicans will never, ever be in control again. The onion will be peeled back for all to see…and people will begin to realize that they have been had. Snookered.Played for fools. They CAN’T afford to let people know the truth…get out into the real world…out of the RW spin bubble. That would be the ultimate undoing, and they can’t have any of that now. Can they?
STATE SOLUTIONS CONFERENCE (Governor Martin O’Malley and Governor Bob McDonnell)
The contrast between these two governors is striking. Governor Martin O’Malley was terrific, he focused on facts and was very impressive. Governor McDonnell came across as a phony and focused on the same old tired Republican Party talking points that we have all heard ad nauseum. He spent most of his time making negative and snarky comments about the federal government and President Obama. Most of what he said was totally divorced from reality. It is clear the lying and making stuff up has become the GOP stock-in-trade.
Maryland, Virginia Governors Discuss Economy, 2012 Campaign
==================
WASHINGTON, DC
Friday, February 24, 2012
Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell and Maryland Governor Martin OβMalley took part in Politicoβs second annual State Solutions Conference in Washington. Both men discussed a wide range of topics and issues including the controversial abortion legislation in the Commonwealth and Marylandβs passage of the same sex marriage bill.
The bill, approved Thursday is now headed to Governorβs desk for his signature. OβMalley says he plans to sign it into law next week
O’Malley, serving his second term as Maryland’s governor, is chairman of the Democratic Governors Association. In his first term as Virginia’s governor, Bob McDonnell chairs the Republican Governors Association.
Rachel Maddow totally eviscerated Governor Bob McDonnell last night. You can tell she delights saying Governor Bob McDonnell and transvaginal ultrasound in the same sentence. Clearly, the transvanginal ultrasound has become an albatross around the neck of VP hopeful Bob McDonnell. This couldn’t have happened to a more deserving man.
Me! Me! Me! I’m rooting for Octavia Spencer, George Clooney, Viola Davis. I hope The Artist doesn’t win everything also, because the show wouldn’t be fresh and exciting. I’m stoked for the red carpet, the fashion. I’m stoked for Billy Chrystal, though I’m still bummed out that Eddie Murphy dropped out.
Film: I said originally War Horse or Hugo would take it – but I haven’t seen either yet – so what I HAVE seen: (The Help, Moneyball, The Descendants, The Artist, Midnight in Paris) I would vote for The Descendants – I’d really love to see The Artist NOT WIN, but that’s not going to happen, and it makes me really sad.
Actor: George Clooney
Actress: Meryl Streep – her performance is ridiculous.
Sup Actor: Jonah Hill
Sup Actress: Janet McTeer or Octavia Spencer
Director: Alexander Payne (Or Martin Scorsese/Woody Allen – and I normally hate Woody Allen films unless he’s not in them – Loved Midnight In Paris.)
Song: Man or Muppet (Bret should be allowed to sing this – bastards.)
Animated Feature – Puss N Boots Rango
Cinematography – anything BUT The Artist Agreed – Midnight in Paris
Documentary Feature – Pina
Doc Short – Barber of Birmingham
Film Editing – Hugo / or Tattoo
Foreign Language – A Separation
Makeup – Harry Potter
Score – Howard Shore (Hugo)
Animated Short – no idea
Short film – no idea
Sound Editing – War Horse
Sound Mixing – War Horse
SFX – (why are there FIVE in the Bake Off?? Did that happen last year? There are normally only three…) Harry Potter
Screenplay Adapted – Moneyball Descendants
Screenplay Original – Midnight in Paris
Art Direction – Hugo (or anything but The Artist)
Costume Design – Jane Eyre (one of the best films of the year that no one saw.) Or Anonymous.
I’m watching TRON Legacy for the bazillionth time, and while nominated for Sound Editing (well deserved), I’m still wondering why it wasn’t nominated for Art Direction, or in the Bake Off. SMH.
Interesting choices but I think Viola Davis is taking the Oscar for best actress. Meryl already has two so I think the academy will swing Viola’s way. Plus Viola won the SAG and I notice that the Oscars tend to follow the SAG on about 80% of winners. I’d love Rango to win over Puss N Boots. I’d love Harry Potter to win. Rooting for A Separation. Octavia Spencer is definitely winning the Oscar. She’s won every award leading up to the Oscars. I’d like to see The Descendants or Hugo win best picture but it looks like The Artist will take that. I’m also rooting for Alexander Payne but the director from the Artist is more likely the favored choice. For supporting actor I think Christopher Plummer will get it for The Beginners or if they decide to go wild, then Max Von Sydow might snap that. For adapted screenplay I’m rooting for Moneyball because Aaron Sorkin writes dialogue like no other. For the sound mixing and technical awards I’m torn between Hugo and War Horse. Phew! It’s going to be a long night of nail biting.
You’re right – Aaron writes like nobody else. Wish he’d write something just for me. π
If I were betting, I’d bet Viola, Octavia, and Christopher Plummer win, and the Artist takes everything else. Snooooze.
Oscar doesn’t always go the way of SAG. Julie Christie won everything then lost the Oscar to Marion Cotillard a few years ago, and I was thrilled. I thought I was the only SAG voter who voted for Marion. Did you ever see Edith Piaf? Brilliant stuff.
Viola was brilliant, everyone in that film was. I’m still shocked Bryce Dallas Howard hasn’t been nominated for anything – she was one of the best – but playing such a hatable character is a risk. Still thought she was better than Jessica Chastain.
Meryl’s work in Iron Lady was something to behold, and in a league all her own. I don’t care how many Oscars she has.
Not sure which upsets me more: the text-stalking, or that this schmuck is a Democrat. This is the one thing I loathe about new communications technologies: it gives people free rein to engage in behaviors which would be completely unacceptable if done face-to-face.
A Florida state Rep. has resigned after admitting to sexting a female, married federal prosecutor with messages like βSexxxy mama?β
βThe events of the past week have been difficult for my family, for me and for everyone involved,β State Rep. Richard Steinberg (D) wrote in a statement on Friday. βAfter much consultation with my family, my friends and my colleagues in the Democratic caucus β and after some time for quiet, personal reflection β I have decided to resign, effective today, from my position as a member of Floridaβs House of Representatives. β
possibly he just loves his country so much, and is so passionate about america, that he has, because of the stress of this noble work, found he’s done something he’s had to ask his god to forgive him for, and he has been forgiven, and nobody should ever mention it again? maybe that’s it, because he’s just so devoted to florida?
RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) β CNN founder Ted Turner is opposing construction of the Keystone XL oil pipeline, which would be built close to his buffalo ranch in South Dakota.
The pipeline would deliver oil from Canada’s Alberta province to the U.S. Gulf Coast, running through Montana, Nebraska and South Dakota in the Great Plains.
CNN recently broadcast a commentary in which Turner says the pipeline shouldn’t be built.
The manager of Turner’s 141,000-acre buffalo ranch southwest of Pierre says the pipeline would cross the Bad River about 15 miles upstream from the ranch. The river flows through Turner’s property.
YES! Fabulous diary by Al Rodgers. I had seen it yesterday and immediately tipped and rec’d it. I meant to link to it here, but got distracted. So glad to see it made it to TOD. I remember Al’s diaries from the campaign and early Administration. they were always, always, always totally spectacular. Some of the best I’ve ever seen.
Then, PLs and firebaggers started to drown his diaries, and he began posting less and less (although I don’t know if that was the reason, or if it was merely coincidental). When BWD began posting her photo diaries, some people thought she was Al reincarnated, lol, and proceeded to bully her off the site as well.
That work of art Al put together most recently is a tour de force — he builds a story like none other. So glad to see he’s still in fine form. He needs to be in publishing or media in some capacity — he truly is gifted.
First!
Congrats Ceb. Second here!!
Winner!!! Morning Ceb, morning everyone π
Thanks, Chips.
I woke up to snow and hail covering the ground here near the Coast in Oregon. Just after I had my snowtires switched off too!
Obama Grandmama, hope you are doing well. Be careful and I pray that your day will be go well. ((((((Hugs))))))HZ
Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww…………….. π
p.s. I spy Reggie Love.
You Rock!
(Of course all TOD-ers ROCK!)
Morning everyone. Happy Saturday.
Morning africa π
Cheers, Chips!!
Good morning Chips & TOD fam
Morning symmetry, jeepers – lots of early birds here today!
Morning Chips. I’m also an early bird but twitter has me mesmerized. @Electablog and @LOLGOP are live blogging Herman Cain’s and other nut job GOP’s event in Michigan. Makes for a rollicking good time. π
At last!
Good morning,Chips.
I would like my own congrats photo, please. One of the First Lovebirds would be an excellent start to my day, which Inwould be so generous as to share with others.
Tally, I broke your winning stretch.
Congrats, Ceb! π
**I** ‘ve been hovering around since 7:31am, flipping back and forth in an attempt to catch Chips in the act, but it wasn’t to be. Ah well! I can now relax and get on with the business of seeing what everyone has been doing before heading out for Saturday ‘chores’.
My IPad and my IPod make bell sounds when I get email; they alerted me that the race was on.
Cheat!!! π
What ever it takes, he he he!
My ears ring. That’s how I know!

You make me smile every time VC!!!!!
I have a couple of extra shovels, and hot chocolate with a drop of rum if you like. π
Enjoy your Saturday!
VC, unfortunately I’m a bit too busy to help, but I’ll ask a friend of mine, who owns a shovel, if he’ll do his bit:
Awwww! THANK you! THANK you! Made my morning! π π You are such an awesome friend, CC! Now when I actually get out there to clear the driveway, I’ll have inspiring company – you and my President. Definitely will be the first time I’m shoveling with a smile. Hope the neighbours don’t think I’m losing it. π π
When I was typing my second response you were already posting the lovely photo. You are magic; thanks again.
‘You are magic’
Isn’t she, Ceb? Must be the Irish fairy dust sprinkled upon her at her christening. π
π
I’ve been suspecting this for some time. love our Chipsticks. xoxo
Ha, love ya back Sara!!!
Happy Saturday, Everyone π
Chips, just another thanks to you for bringing the positive to us, so that we can spread is elsewhere π
My pleasure rikyrah! Have you seen that DK diary? It’s just stunning.
It is chips. Just beautiful! But to me, you do that every single day here…several times a day….and i love and appreciate it. Mahalo.
Bob Herbert, again? Really?
His guests are the absolute worst!
Morning Jovie π
Bob Debbie Downer
He’s such a Debbie Downer. Detroit is clawing its way back to the top despite Gov. Snyder’s atrocious policies but to Bob Herbert 1.4M jobs, growing small businesses, growing music and film industries, growing green energy jobs are crap. He’s always negative. Never has anything positive to say. Ugh. Council woman Watson and the gentleman Rishi sure called him out on his BS using facts.
I so agree…….
Hey Jovie,
I’m with you, Bob Herbert is the ultimate “Debbie Downer”. This man has to be on some kind of anti-depressant because he has to be the most depressing human being evah!
I don’t even like the look of that Bob Herbert guy.
I was a bit reluctant to click the link too, Meta – I’ve as much respect for the place as Firebaggerlake. It was worth it, though.
You are spot on here Jackie. He does carry himself that way. As if he’s already earned the right to be President.
I still think he’s going to be the candidate. He’s has absolutely no redeeming personal or professional qualities and I do believe we’ll have the possibility of a landslide if we all work hard for it.
I want Dems and Pres.Obama to crush Republicans even more than 2008. I wanna see skid marks.
THIS.
With all of our help, they will….YES WE CAN, YES WE DID, YES WE WILL……
I am willing to do whatever it takes to defeat EVERY Republican up for reelection, any state, any office…..
Ok, /rant!
Oh yes! It pisses me off when the moderators just cower. Don’t let me moderate a GOP debate. All of them would be up there red faced from embarrassment.
WOOOOOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOOOOO…THAT ‘KOS’ SPREAD WAS AMAZING…CAN I GET THAT IN WALLPAPER PLEASE! I CAN VISUALIZE MY NEW PUTER ROOM NOW!
Oh yes, Good Morning TOD Fam! I plan to sit around and scratch my arse today. Later I might clean the stove or something.
I’d skip the stove.
Can’t. It’s been screaming at me all week.
Thank you for sharing that Gobrooklyn, have an, um, perfect scratchy day π
Why thank you very blogmistress Chips π
π Wash your hands! (Teacher part of me…after I see arse picking, nose picking, coughing, sneezing…all day….I say “wash your hands as often as I say, “Tie your shoes!”
Oh of course. π
Good! Happy scratching then π
Who cares about Republican polls? Meaningless.

AMEN TO THAT! ADVOCATE AND COMFORTER-IN-CHIEF!
That’s pretty good. Did you come up with that? I’d love to see that on a t-shirt.
Linda, Let me add alittle shout to that too, Amen Sister.
Linda,
That is wonderful, you should have entered the poster contest!
Just have to add that I feel this, too, Pamela:
“I feel in my heart he is a true conduit for healing energy, and that magnetic field is what people sense, but also what gives him that extraordinary strength and mental clarity.”
Lets stay firm.
well said. totally agree
I quit HuffPuff and quit Jezebel/Gawker in 2010. I’ve never looked back. Never been a fan of Greenwald Moore and Hamsher. No skin off my back.
Hi BWD, delighted to say Hi and I miss ya lots!
You are a might, mighty god man!! lol
Mighty mighty “good” man!!
I am glad you started your own place and glad you directed your faithful followers here.
π
Well, then, I wish he’d do the occasional post at your site, BWD! But, then, I remember wishing you could post at W.E.E. See You before you got your own site. Perhaps, it’s just a matter of time before he goes independent;-) Because clicking on DK makes me feel as though I’m rewarding a nest of vipers who keep good guys around as attractants. Anyway, I do follow the links to the good ones and try to download and beat a hasty retreat.
I couldn’t agree more, and I think that your metaphor is very apt as well.
If anyone says that President Obama is weak in regards to Iran….just show them this map

NO SHIT!!!
I clicked it. I read it. I beamed. And I’m spreading it.
Amazing diary! Thanks, UT π
Grinning and sending you (((((hugs))))), utaustinliberal.
Me too, yesterday, right after I read it I tweeted it, and everytime someone else tweeted it, I retweeted it.
Good West Coast morning Chipsticks!
Good West Coast morning TOD family.
Hope everyone make it a GREAT day π
Morning GGaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaail!!!
Good morning, West Coast Gail! My real name is Gayle, so I’m another West Coast Gayle! It’s been very, very warm and sunny up here in the north but we may have some rain coming soon. I sure hope so. It’s been a bit of a strange but gorgeous season.
It’s getting windy in here, TWO Gayles/Gails/Gales!!!
It’s a good kinda storm!!
We’re a TOD warm front – for sure π

Love you, HZ :)Thank you for thinking of us…..actually, hubby has a (phone) job interview Tues…cross fingers! I need good vibes.Hope you have a marvelous day! hugs!!!
Wonderful df, will pray very hard that if this is the right job for him, he will get it!
Hi desertflower. Great news. I will be sending out good vibes indeed for you and your hubby for Tues. We are just steps away from a beautiful space for you and hubby. I have to trust and have faith that he will get the perfect gift for him. Hold on and keep thinking good thoughts.
(((((Hugs to you both))))))HZ
thank you, hz, for your uplifting words. and to desertflower, yes to the perfect job! prayers are all around you, all the time.
now, i guess i better put on something sexy and wash the car!
Thinking of your mother, tnmtngirl, take care of yourself.
Thinking of your Mom. Hope she’ll be just fine π
Thank you for sharing your pastor’s sermon; wishing for the best with your Mother today.
Thank you for sharing your paster’s words with us and what is happening with your mom. I will pray that she will be ok and can go home soon.
Sending out prayers for your mom tnmtngirl.
sending comforting thoughts to you & your mom tnmtngirl
Tnmtgirl, I read your post after hitting the ‘post comment’. I will say prayers for your mother. Be as peaceful as you can in your spirit. I pray for comfort for your precious mother.
(((((((((((((((((((((Be encourage to hold on))))))))))))))))))) Sending nothing but love and goodness of thoughts to you and your brother during this time. Love you,HZ
Your comment was so spot on!!
Prayers for you and your mother! It’s such a difficult and stressful time of our lives, when we know are parents are aging. I’m sure you are going though a difficult time. I hope your mother pulls through!
That was an excellent DKOS diary. The longest I’ve spent there in years.
GOING TO SEE THE GHOST RIDER 3D MOVIE TODAY…WILL PROBABLY NEED AN EMT BEFORE ITS OVER!…LOLLLLLLLLLLLLL! MY OTHER HALF WANTS TO SEE IT AND I’LL DO ANYTHING FOR POPCORN!..:)
If you haven’t seen it, SUE, might I suggest “HUGO”, Martin Scorceses homage to the movies. It’s in 3D and oh so delightful.
Sue, enjoy your movie and ofcourse enjoy those popcorn. Have a great day, Sue. Love you so very much.HZ
The morally corrupt, preying on fears….SLAMMED!
http://bobcesca.com/blog-archives/2012/02/right-wing-scammers-caught.html
Corporations are more than people; they’re like SUPER people.
http://thinkprogress.org/health/2012/02/24/432239/rick-santorum-americans-with-special-needs-wont-survive-under-obamas-health-reform/
This is such BS!
Great post. You have real courage to post this to your facebook. Keep it up.
Truth.
excellent rant 57andFemale.
THIS!!! A million times!
http://www.politicususa.com/en/woman-sleeping-giant
I just shake my head at the conservative women who live to uphold the patriarchy.
Me too. I don’t understand why they support this anti-woman agenda in this day and age. This is 2012, not 1812!
Happy Saturday!
Great diary – so much good information. I totally enjoyed reading it.
That site is full of paid posters….
nintendowii10, what else would we expect from those people?
On the HuffyPuffy link, they are rehashing the βObama is a Muslimβ nonsense”
and I could give a shyte what they do.
The WH did the right thing.
Here’s a great take on this: http://pleasecutthecrap.typepad.com/main/2012/02/politics-101-for-the-far-left-better-government-winning-elections.html
Rick Santorum is about the weakest Republican Candidates in a long time! And anyone in the GOP who thinks he can win is delusional!
There use to be a time when most Americans wanted their kids to go to college. Now the Saint Santorum is finding problem with that.

Wasn’t this GREAT?!?!
http://politicalwire.com/archives/2012/02/24/santorum_attends_super_pac_event_despite_denials.html
Rick Santorum on Thursday afternoon slipped away from the campaign trail to speak to a fundraiser for a supportive super PAC, despite denying previous reports that he planned to do so.
He lied. I’m SHOCKED!
What a Christian………
Does he have to reserve the confessional for an entire weekend to list all of his lies?
Lying must be in their DNA. Look at the Romney post below. It’s what they do….they can’t tell the truth because if they did, NO ONE would EVER vote for them!
desertflower, you are so right, those right wing bigots that they are preaching too, would never vote for them.
He is a pathological liar.

This should be Tweeted:)
This one is especially slimy
Foreign Policy columnist Michael Cohen noted yesterday that he understands that “politicians mislead and occasionally fib,” but added, “[H]onestly, I’ve never seen anyone do it as brazenly as Mitt Romney.”
this attack is just as ridiculous as Romney accusing Santorum for being responsible for ACA being passed because he supported Arlen Specter in 2004.
Now when we are talking about lying, Mitt Romney isn’t the only one. Rick Santorum, Newt Gingrich, and Ron Paul, they all are a bunch of liars.
THIS is what the right-wing war on Muslims has wrought. I hope that the soldiers who burned the Qurans are held criminally liable for these deaths.

No words. This IS what the RW war on Muslims has wrought. Their ideology and ignorance astounds.
That is just heartbreaking,LL. Instead of helping PBO try to clam the waters, the republicans are throwing gasoline on the fire. Sorry for the mixed metaphors.
Morning everyone! Happy CATURDAY!
I am in TEARS from that speech from Other People’s Money. HBO needs to dust that off, and produce it – RIGHT FUCKING NOW.
Thank you SO MUCH CHIPS!!
And now I’m sobbing reading about the President’s call to Jessica’s dad before the SOTU.
That brought tears to my eyes too. Al’s diary was so emotional for me. PBO is such a humble man. He let’s the people who are envolved talk about these events.
We must work to reelect PBO and work in all the states to elect a democratic Congress!!!! Press On!!!!
But note how the dad did not thank PBO personally for ordering the raid that rescued his daughter. I was bummed out about that.
We don’t know that. I may not have been printed.
It certainly seems unreasonable that he would NOT have thanked him.
Good Morning Tally. ((((((((((((((((((((((Hugs covering your tears))))))))))))))))))))))))) Love you our dear and precious Tally. Your intellect always lifts my spirit so much. Give us something wonderful again from your pen, please. Love you, Tally.HZ
THE DUTCH ARE ANGRY WITH US BECAUSE OF SANTORUM’S PATHOLOGICAL LYING
========================================================================
Last night, Rachel Maddow pulled back the curtain on Rick Santorum’s lying about euthanasia in Holland. She interviews a Dutch journalist who says they are astonished at lies coming from Rick Santorum. They are very angry and want to set the record straight.
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/26315908/#46520567
They aren’t mad at US, they are mad at HIM for spewing these lies to the uninformed American electorate too ignorant to find out if this is true or not!
They will be mad at us if he gets closer to the nomination. This country is becoming a laughingstock. Thank god we have a President who has helped us regain our standing in the international community.

Hey LL –
Galaxy season is two weeks away – just a reminder – If you want to sit with LARS (Riot Squad) in 138/137 – feel free to go through me. I’m a LARS season ticket holder, and can get you a good price.
I will keep that in mind!
That being said, I long for the day when MLS has a “normal” season running from August to May. Then again, there is something to be said for warm summer nights at HDC.
I am just hoping our first and last games aren’t in driving cold-ass rainstorms like they were last year! π
I’m just ready for summer. I’ve had enough of winter.
(And when September rolls around, I’ll be ready for winter. I’m funky that way.)
From the librarian’s friend, Wikipedia:
There are two takes on this, speaking as a reluctant citizen of this godforsaken state for the last 45 years and an Episcopalian —
1. It’s a meaningless ritual that actually means nothing and does nothing. Ignore it.
2. It’s an arrogant ritual which offends a huge portion of people of all faiths and the church fathers need to be hit up the back of the head and forced to stop the practice.
As for me, I don’t believe in an afterlife (my sincere apologies to believers) my ashes will be dug into my northern rose bed to nourish the plants.
Thank you, LL, and Joan.
THIS a million times! And of course, an idea for a piece with which I’ve been struggling on TPV. Thanks!
Fired up!
Don’t ever do that 57andFemale, I enjoy reading your posts. Keep on talking/posting.
57andFemale – that is not how I interpreted LDS’s response which I agree with btw. But, It is all in the interest of having a good discourse.
Keep posting. It provides context to the entire discussion. There is value in that.
Thank you, LDS.

OH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THIS IS RICH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Can they?
Oh that is indeed rich!
Too late. The tide has turned.

This is why there will one day be a “President O’Malley”, but there will never be a day with “President McDonnell”.
Governor Bob McDonnell inextricably linked to the Transvaginal Ultrasound
============================================================

Ok – OFF TOPIC TIME –
The Oscars……
Anyone?
I have to admit I will be very depressed if The Artist wins everything. I’m rare, but not alone. *sigh*
Me! Me!
Here are my HOPES:
I would love to see George win an Oscar. Other than that, I have no idea. Don’t see many movies. O/T but any updates on the runaway/lost girl??
Not sure which upsets me more: the text-stalking, or that this schmuck is a Democrat. This is the one thing I loathe about new communications technologies: it gives people free rein to engage in behaviors which would be completely unacceptable if done face-to-face.
Oh, story here, so you can see the “sexy” things he texted: http://tpmmuckraker.talkingpointsmemo.com/2012/02/fl_lawmaker_resigns_after_sending_sexxxy_mama_text.php?ref=fpb
The guy looks a lot like Rick Santorum.
possibly he just loves his country so much, and is so passionate about america, that he has, because of the stress of this noble work, found he’s done something he’s had to ask his god to forgive him for, and he has been forgiven, and nobody should ever mention it again? maybe that’s it, because he’s just so devoted to florida?
Woah. Link please. Would like to shove it down the GOP’s throat.

This one may be better…since it is local.

New post everyone:
