And, they can forget about 2016 as well because we elect our first woman President in 2016 – Elizabeth Warren ๐Ÿ™‚

The campaign organization for President Barack Obama has flashed a message on Twitter indicating plans to open an Omaha headquarters on March 15.

The Lincoln Journal Star ( http://bit.ly/zgRgrt) reports that while itโ€™s just a tweet, the message might be a signal that Obamaโ€™s campaign is preparing to again target the Omaha congressional districtโ€™s presidential electoral vote.

The message went to 2,022 followers of the Obama For America Nebraska feed on Twitter.

A senior U.S. official says the Obama administration is in “intense discussions” with Egypt to resolve the legal case against 16 American democracy advocates that has badly damaged ties between the countries “in the coming days”

The official, speaking to reporters on condition of anonymity due to the delicacy of the matter, said Saturday that Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton had raised the matter twice in person with Egypt’s foreign minister – once in London and once in Tunis – in the past three days and that other senior U.S. officials are actively involved.

The administration has been calling for the case to be resolved for weeks in a manner that allows seven of the implicated Americans who have been barred from leaving to leave the country.

The Egyptian military officials had better quit their “macho” crap and stop messing with PBO. The last thing they want to do is engage in hostile relations. We provide them foreign aid and can just as easily cut it off. Holding 16 democracy advocates including Ray La Hood’s son, Sam, is no way to endear yourself to a country you call your “partner.” We might speak softly now but if they continue with their infantile crap, they’ll soon see that having PBO as an enemy or opponent is not a wise move. They have no credible reason for barring the American advocates from leaving the country.

House Democrats are panicky and are urging the President to release the reserves.
Last time they were released, it took over 2 months before prices started coming down, but it worked.
This time, I agree with the House Democrats, expect the President and Secretary Chu to make announcement soon!

I think he should order the halt of gasoline exports – the BIG OILโ„ขยฎ doesn’t need the money, and it would make the GOPiggies squeal really loud.

        February 25, 2012 at 11:10 pm

Exactly, Tally. And, anything he can do to restrict the speculators that does not require legislation. Moreover, the DoJ should be evaluating whether RICO can be applied given that it is highly likely that the Kochs and their ilk are coordinating efforts to drive up prices as to damage President Obama’s re-election – which in itself may not be racketeering, but the harm being done to most Americans should definitely meet the threshold for injunction. It’s way more than the typical Enron-scale greed in this case – they are more than willing to harm most Americans just to defeat the President. In some circles that would also meet the bar of treason.

well, i pay $4.65 every day, and there’s no panic about it. it’s just what gas costs. i think pbo’s wise to not get caught up in all these faux panics the rethugs stir up. if he’s reactive, they have him on a string.

susanne – I am right there with you. I don’t know what possesses Dems that they feel inclined to keep that finger hovered over the panic button on every issue. It is so ridiculous and you would think they know better.

Good Morning, All: I totally agree. I dont care to pay $5.00. It is what it is. I am so sick and tired of this conversation with the same results. Release reserves, price goes down. Didn’t we have this conversation last year or the year before. That is called insanity, my friends. When are we going to solve the problem? That is my biggest issues with house democrats. They always want a band aid solution. So are you telling me their districts are going to vote in republicans because of gas prices? We are a spoiled and silly people.

Have you seen the price of milk? Food in general? Even the price of snack foods i.e. junk (please, dont tell Michelle) is sky high. A family size bag of Doritos is $5.00. Yes, it was a large bag but it wasn’t full. I would rather those prices go down and gas price stay up.

Now this makes sense Aunt Sis. To argue about the price of gas at the same time no one protests the price of milk or food seems off to me.

And yes we went down this road multiple times.

I’m reading a book my brother (#2) sent me, called Glimpses of Eternity, by Raymond Moody with Paul Perry. It’s about shared death experiences, where the experiences at death are sometimes shared by onlookers and those who are attending the dying. It’s pretty cool reading, as that is just what happens when my Mom passed, and I was holding her hand. The room filled with Light, and I felt as if I was being lifted up with her as her Body of Light rose up and left the room. Then it went all dark again, and I came back down to the chair, I knew I had to wait my turn. I love this book! AND I am keeping any eye on Tally and GGail, but I know they are trying to to behave, but hey, it’s Saturday night, what are our lives like? Blogging and reading and laughing out loud!

Newt Gingrich has a double-digit lead over the rest of the GOP field in his home state of Georgia, according to a Landmark-Rosetta Stone poll released late Friday.

Gingrich took 38 percent, followed by Rick Santorum at 25 percent, Mitt Romney at 19 percent, and Ron Paul at four percent, the poll found.

Afghan Defense Minister Rahim Wardak apologized to U.S. Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta in a phone call on Saturday for an incident that left two U.S. military officers dead, according to a statement from Pentagon spokesman George Little.
โ€œSecretary Panetta appreciated the call and urged the Afghan government to take decisive action to protect coalition forces and curtail the violence in Afghanistan after a challenging week in the country,โ€ the statement read in part.

On Saturday, NATO officials said two U.S. officers, a colonel and a major, had been shot in the interior ministry of the Afghan capital of Kabul, spurring a recall of coalition forces from the Afghan ministries.

Oh yea, what is it with Silver and Romney? That is so strange.

        • February 25, 2012 at 11:44 pm

        • 141 itgurl_29
          February 25, 2012 at 11:45 pm

Al Giordano called it the minute Silver announced he’d been hired by the NYT. He’s doing their bidding now and that means he’s gotta do everything to make Romney look inevitable. The poor guy has spent the entire primary telling us that Romney will win no matter what. I don’t know how he lives with himself.

        • 144 hopefruit2
          February 25, 2012 at 11:47 pm

It’s a mystery to me. But I just couldn’t help but notice. And in the most recent CNN debate he gave Romney a B+; and in the one before that two A’s! (A- for execution and A for strategy) Maybe the NYTimes is pressuring him to go soft on Romney because they want Romney to be the nominee.

          • February 25, 2012 at 11:59 pm

I don’t think there’s a question that Romney will be the nominee. Karl Rove will never let Santorum win. But for someone like Nate SIlver to have a crush on someone like Romney – It’s really very very strange.

            • February 26, 2012 at 7:57 am

I hate to say this, but Nate used to be too smart to fall for this and the only explanation is money and pressure. Personally, I could care less what Nate thinks because his affiliation with the NYT makes everything he says suspect. He had a useful role in 2008, but someone else will rise up to take his place in 2012 and Nate will be just another cog in the establishment. The old saying about fame going to your head is a wise one. As I said before, Al Giordano knew that Nate would be tainted as soon as he took the NYT assignment. He (Al) thought Nate could no longer be trusted. There are some times when Al is wrong, but it isn’t often.

The problem with that thinking lovingandlaughing, is that Mitt not only stick his feet in his mouth during debates, any time he is out there just talking he says something off the wall or just plain stupid. So someone need to tell Ann keeping Mitt from debates won’t save him. The only way to say him is to get him out of the race.

      • February 26, 2012 at 7:51 am

Silent Calvin Coolidge is the last president who could getting away with saying nothing. Ann Romney is fighting a losing battle, unless Willard develops permanent laryngitis and they get someone to talk for him. Who that would be I have no idea. I guess she imagines two people taking an oath of office–the talker and the silent one.

    • February 26, 2012 at 8:00 am

When your own wife thinks you’re too incompetent to debate, you have fallen very low. If he ever did get to the point of debating PBO maybe she would advocate having a cardboard Romney dummy on stage with the president. I wonder how long it would take for anyone to notice.

Ann Romney, spouse of GOP candidate Mitt Romney has spoken, and if she has her way the Presidential hopeful will be a non-participant in future GOP debates. While campaigning alongside her husband in Michigan, Romney addressed the crowd stating “Maybe I should just do all the talking and let him just stand here and watch me,” she said. “I’ve also decided no more debates. If we’re going to do another debate, he’s going to sit in the audience and watch me. And that’ll be it.”

President Barack Obama is moving the location of his Vermont visit to accommodate more people, and adding a headline local musical act to the bill.

His March 30 trip to Burlington had been scheduled for the Sheraton Hotel and Conference Center on Williston Road, but campaign officials said Friday that an “overwhelming response” has prompted a move to the University of Vermont’s athletic complex on campus.

MEXICO CITY (Reuters) – The world’s leading economies worked on Sunday to line up a deal in April on a second global rescue package worth nearly $2 trillion to stop the euro-zone sovereign debt crisis from spreading and putting at risk the tentative recovery.

Germany said it would make a decision some time in March on strengthening Europe’s bailout fund, a move other Group of 20 countries say is essential to clear the way for throwing extra funds into the International Monetary Fund.

The two actions are part of the G20’s efforts to build up massive international resources by the end of April – when the group next meets – and convince financial markets they can stem the euro-zone’s deep problems.

    Wow! 2 trillion Quid!

    Flip flop.

He let loose with classified information. Some people think he’s a hero, not a criminal. Foolish.

    • February 26, 2012 at 10:11 am

Sure! He stole classified information which is how Wikileaks started.
He broke the law and now he claims he has a alter ego named brandy!
      Not kidding.
But Chris will not tell you that because he is a Libertarian and it ruins his talking points!

Manning also bragged about it. So it’s hard to profess innocence when you’re on record as admitting it. A fact Jane Hamsher and Glen Greenwald conveniently ignored.

You just cannot win the election with only 25% of Hispanic support.
They must think they will not turn out!

        February 26, 2012 at 10:28 am

It’s a joke….I don’t even think he could get THAT much support from Hispanics! Why should they vote for someone that thinks they should go back where they came from….!!(Not even THINKING it possible that they came from HERE!!!)

How could they vote for anyone that thinks they are “less than”….and be such a hypocrite, because he has Mexican roots? WANKER!!!

GOP Gov. Jan Brewery states President Obama and the Federal Govt. are doing nothing to secure the border, but in the same sentence she praises the state of Texas for being able to maintain control on their border security.

Yes Texas is doing a good job, we havea longer border than Arizona and we have competent personnel, as opposed to Arizona. One of our US/Mexico border cities – El Paso, Texas has been rated SAFEST CITY in U.S.A. in 2010 & 2011. It seems Arizona GOP Gov. Jan Brewer may be the problem in border security and attributing all her crime problems to undocumented aliens.

Arizona Violent crime rates are all down โ€” statewide numbers included โ€” except for in Maricopa County, the jurisdiction of pro-enforcement Sheriff Joe Arpaio. Crime in Arpaioโ€™s county has gone up 58 percent since 2002. Perhaps, if Sheriff Joe was not wasting resources on immigration his violent crime rates which directly impact citizens would be lower like the rest of the state.

Anything good in America it’s because of the State Republican Governors and anything bad us Obamas fault???
      This is their game plan.

    • February 26, 2012 at 10:20 am

This is right on. Arpaio is out of control and Jan Brewer is a looney tune. I can’t wait for both of them to be gone. In the beginning, Joe Arpaio was an awesome Sheriff, but somehow got derailed by power. He made it a crime for animal abuse for which I will always be grateful, but he has cost Arizona taxpayers a fortune in legal fees and our safety has been compromised.

Add to this that the undoc. immigrant population is the lowest it has been in years.

She won the election by beating the drum of the evil Mexicans. Mind you, when she speaks of all those “Illegal Immigrants” she’s only speaking about Mexicans. It doesn’t occur to her that Canadians that flock here every winter and overstay, are a problem at all. They’re white, you see…so she’s not talking about them. She has to keep the appearance that the brown people are flooding into our state, and that the evil Obama Administration has done nothing to protect our state from these people. She even has a fund set up, so that private citizens can lose, I mean spend, their hard earned money to build a border fence! I kid you not!

Just look at what a complete waste THAT is!

for those of you following intensely the situation in Syria, do you think we regular folks on TOD and other places could be of use to President Obama by more vocally pressing Russia and China to STOP providing political cover for assad as he kills his people with impunity?

we support a candidate who has repeatedly told us to “be change that you want to see” and that “one voice can change a room, …, a city, …. a country,…. and the world. I am thinking that if we helped vitually and physically organize students, other young people, and other concerned global citizens to “turn up the heat” by directly confronting and shaming the state apparatus of Russia and Syria, we could help turn the tide against mass slaughter. I am thinking of conducting a campaign to shame Russia and China by telling them (e.g. using a bloody palm/hand) that they have Syrian blood on their hands

are there people here who feel that this could work? any body else interested in helping out with this campaign against Syrian brutality?
