    BREAKING: Same-sex marriage is on the way to being legalized in Maryland. The Washington Post reports the state Senate passed the bill already passed by the state House. That means the legislation is headed for Gov. Martin O’Malley’s (D) desk, where is it expected to get a signature.

    “One voice can change a room, and if one voice can change a room, then it can change a city, and if it can change a city, it can change a state, and if it change a state, it can change a nation, and if it can change a nation, it can change the world.”

    The world is changing, no matter what the Kochs, Norquists, or al-Assads want.

      It’s wonderful news! Congrats, Maryland!!!

    • February 23, 2012 at 9:36 pm

      This is just fabulous news! Yeah for Maryland. Just goes to show what good things can happen if you have a Democratic legislature and government. New Jersey will have to wait for Christie to be booted out in 2014. But it will happen.

      I wish I could greet this with proper enthusiasm, but I know what happens next. Just as earlier this month a similar measure was signed into law in WA state, before the ink was dry the self-righteous Right put up not one but two ballot measures to overturn it into the system to collect signatures. Look out, Maryland…your turn is next.

    What’s up guys? Having a great day or what? I know the LGBT community in Maryland is having a fantastic one.

      I was, and am, a huge fan of the sci-fi show “Babylon 5”. In one of the episodes, two of the main characters had to go undercover to Mars to get support for the rebellion against a fascist Earth government. The cover that the Resistance gave them was as a newlywed couple on their honeymoon. Both characters were male. I always think of that episode when I think of same-sex marriage. Same sex marriage will come to this country the same way that single-payer will: one state at a time, until the momentum is too great for those who hate to stop.

    AN AMAZING DISPLAY OF ADVOCACY FOR WOMEN BY SANDRA FLUKE

    ============================================================

    For anyone who has not seen Georgetown Law Center student Sandra Fluke testify today on contraception for women, I highly recommend it. The clarity that she brings to the discussion is just remarkable. Her testimony was the most powerful display of advocacy for women that I have seen since the women senators in the Democratic Party held a press conference to slam the Republican Party for trying to defund Planned Parenthood during the budget debate in April 2011.
