vroom vroom!

Hiya everyone, sorry for not being around much today, weekends are always kind of crazy busy and today was even busier than usual.

Any way, I’m only catching up with emails now and I spotted one from a TODer that completely cracked me up.

I won’t name names – I’ll leave it to him/her to reveal themselves! – but they just got a very, very lovely new car.

“What? Oh riiiiiiiiight, some of you are probably CAR PEOPLE and want to know what KIND of car I got.

Blue!! I got a new BLUE CAR!!!!”

Best of all …. look how it’s decorated 😉

Happy driving my friend!

Chips!! You know last night you posted all the videos ( fabulous!)…anyway, the one of the first dance at the inauguration…and Tweety was talking about PBO’s dancing and wondering out loud what you would call that kind of dancing…..someone in the background yelled out, “Sexy!”.(about the :28 mark)..I just wondered if anyone else noticed that…..

Hmmmn. A case for Detective VC.

Is that a Chevy Volt? No matter, I’m going to pick Tally as new car owner as not too long ago she mentioned having her eyes on a car. I’d have chosen Amk as he got in touch with you recently, but he travels too often to need a new car. It obviously isn’t Kasai, and CC says it’s not her. (Are you telling the ‘real’ truth or Republican truth, Chica?) Wait a minute. Waaa-it a minute! Wasn’t Yardarm getting in touch with CC recently too? It’s Yardarm. Is it? Is it? Rats! I hate not knowing ‘things’!

Anyway, whoever it is, congratulations of your new wheels. May they take you safely wherever you are going for a long time to come! 😆

    Hello Chipsticks! “Dave” here!

(Oh, my name really is Dave.)

I’m a committed supporter and unabashed FAN of The President. Also an AVID TOD site follower and occasional commenter!

Once in a while I’ve seen my fellow TOD-ers self-consciously allow themselves a moment of self indulgence and share bits of exciting personal news. I guess that’s what I’m doing because I’m excited about my NEW CAR!!! I know I’m very fortunate to be able to buy one. At 55 years I decided “Dang it, I’m going to buy a NEW car that’s never had anyone else’s ass sitting in it day after day!” (I’ve had some very decent used cars in my life, so………….. I don’t know! I just broke down!)

Anyway, I wanted to share these pictures of my NEW CAR!!!!! Thanks for indulging me my fellow TOD-ers!!!!

What? Oh riiiiiiiiight, some of you are probably CAR PEOPLE and want to know what KIND of car I got.

Blue!! I got a new BLUE CAR!!!!

    • February 19, 2012 at 10:22 pm

      It’s Dave!!!!!!!

Ah, your email made me grin ear to ear – thank you my friend!

I love your blue car, intensely. And as for the decorations – is that the technical term? 😕 – beyond magnificent.

May you and your splendid machine have many, many, many happy years together 😉

      Thanks Dave!

Blue cars are the coolest! I want a blue Nissan Leaf, when my ’96 Avalon croaks, but I feel I should save my $ for an American-made car.

    • February 19, 2012 at 10:32 pm

Congratulations on the new car. I remember buying my first real new car, and I squealed to myself in the car for an hour as I drove around, knowing no-one else had ever been behind the wheel of that car. It was a great feeling of accomplishment. It’s different buying a new car versus a good, used car. Congratulations – and your car looks even better with the Obama-2012 decorations. Lovely!

      February 19, 2012 at 10:42 pm

Congrats Dave. I have only purchased one new car in my lifetime, and I drove it ’til the wheels fell off. It, too, was blue!! I have the ‘Obama clings’ in the back windows my current car, which was a very low-mileage used Toyota when I purchased it.

No doubt, though, there is nothing, NOTHING, like the indulgence of a brand new car!! Maybe, once again, before I blow this mortal coil… But more importantly… Did I miss the “Obama ’12” plate??? Gotta check out the Obama store…. Hmmmm, that would look spiffy on the front of my whip.

I got the plate on Cafe Press which has just EVERYTHING. EVERYTHING. Utterly commercial and non-partisan. (Just sayin’ that they ALSO have pro -moron…..mmmmmmm…..for THE MORONS…you know.) BUT? I wanted the plate!!!!

oh, okay. Cool. Well, I guess I won’t get it then. I promised myself that, if I could help it, any Obama stuff I get, I would get from the official campaign. And since I’m not exactly rollin’ in it lately, I’m going to keep to my promise. Besides, I’ve already got the clings and the bumper stickers. It’s not like it’s a question who I am supporting!! 😀

Way to go Dave! I want that decal in the window. Where do I get it? The Obama store? I think it would look good on my 7 year old Black Nissan-Maxima. It’s not new but it is still in near perfect shape. I’ve got complements on my blue bumper sticker which looks beautiful on a black background bumper.

Rick Santorum’s crusade: soft Protestants, birth control, abortion, working women and prenatal testing – all bad

Rick Santorum is running for president, but not so much as he as running a crusade to impose what he thinks is America’s original and proper religious standard on America (I’m thinking he means the America of the Puritan colonies of the austere reaches of New England…) Up with Chris Hayes delved into the latest Santorum statements, from 2008 when he chided mainline Protestantism for going all soft and secular (Santorum himself is a strict Catholic, with various ties to Opus Dei) …

Santorun thinks he can outrun his demons with his extremism but he is actually just running further and further into their den. There is no future for that man. I see future headlines of some hideous act he is guilty of, in the name of his warped righteousness. He’s bad news! but the good news is he and his presidential aspirations will soon be up in flames.

    Not to worry

    • February 20, 2012 at 7:38 am

I agree. He’s going down. Unfortunately, that leaves Willard.

    • February 20, 2012 at 8:40 am

One thing for sure is that the GOP keep trying to use the Bible to thrust their deeply flawed ideas on us all. But as I am apt to say, God has a wicked sense of humor. Witness all they’ve tried to trying to make PBO fail. Each time, it hits them hard in the tush. From ACA debate to tax cut debate to Keystone.

Whatever you do in the dark will come to light. Santorum is in for a very, very hard fall. It won’t be pretty.

    Important read.

    This is about Title X:

Over the past 40 years, Title X Family Planning clinics have played a critical role in ensuring access to a broad range of family planning and related preventive health services for millions of low-income or uninsured individuals. In addition to contraceptive services and related counseling, Title X-supported clinics provide a number of related preventive health services such as: patient education and counseling; breast and pelvic examinations; breast and cervical cancer screening according to nationally recognized standards of care; sexually transmitted disease (STD) and Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) prevention education, counseling, testing and referral; and pregnancy diagnosis and counseling. By law, Title X funds may not be used in programs where abortion is a method of family planning.

This is Mitt Romney on Title X, in November of 2011:

•Eliminate Title X family planning programs benefiting abortion groups like Planned Parenthood.

    And this is President Obama:

This is the GOP House on Title X and this is President Obama’s response to the Republican attempt to gut Title X funding:

But when Boehner later asked for the elimination of funds for Title X—spending for women’s health and family planning organizations that also provide abortion services, the aide said the president flatly refused.
    The president replied, “Nope. Zero.”
Boehner continued to push to discuss the funds, the aide recalled.
    The President repeated: “Nope. Zero.”

    any questions?

  13. February 19, 2012 at 11:21 pm

I saved the Obama cookbook from the 2008 election. Here is the link:

On another note. I live in Palm Beach County Florida. I was driving home from work today and saw 3 Obama and Obama/Biden bumper stickers on cars I passed. Mind you, the drive was only 5 miles.

As I said on POU, just the thought of it makes me work even harder to re-elect Pres. Obama. Also, we must, MUST, MUST pay attention to ‘down ballot’ races so that Dems can gain a majority in the House and keep the Senate. Local races are important too, so that yahoos like Santorum will not be in any decision offices.

It scares me to think of Santorum as a block captain. But I use it as motivation. There still are people who are not registered to vote. I don’t want to give even the hint of complacency. This election is too important.

There are some who call themselves Indies and generally vote Democrat (because they’re middleclass/working class and know not to vote against their interests) but the ones who are weather vanes and wishy washy are so friggin annoying. I think he could! If Romney were to lose both Michigan and Arizona, as well as most of the Southern States on Super Tuesday in March, Santorum could emerge as the GOP nominee. Right now, however, I still think Santorum is the latest flavor of the month aimed at making Mitt Romney appear to be much saner than the alternatives. Then again, I think it is a fools errand to try make predictions about politics; and especially the current state of GOP politics. To be honest, although I’ve been a stronger support of President Obama, from the day he gave the 2004 Keynote Address at the Democratic Convention, If you asked me in February of 2008, if then Senator Obama would be the Democratic nominee for President, I would have said: NO! At the time, the Clinton political machine still appeared to be invincible! By the way, I think It would be a major political blunder for us not to take Santorum seriously! The GOP is so obsessed with denying President Obama a second term that they would pore their resources in supporting any one; even if that means supporting the GOP dreaded Libertarian, Ron Paul. Besides, Santorum is more likely, than either Mitt Romney or Newt Gingrich, to fire the enthusiasm of right wing Christians and teabaggers.

      • 110 vcprezofan2
        February 20, 2012 at 11:48 am

‘The GOP is so obsessed with denying President Obama a second term that they would pour their resources in supporting anyone’

Every time I see this truth repeated, I can’t help asking myself how can so many people be so blinded by hate, or whatever, that they will not admit/see that the Republicans HAVE NO PLANS for effective leadership of the country. Okay so you don’t like the current president? So what? He’s not asking you to come over for a drink. Is he making meaningful choices FOR THE COUNTRY? I just cannot wrap my mind around such obvious ignorance, including ignorance of what is in YOUR best interest! Part of me thinks so many people cannot be so foolish, but then I remember that’s what I thought before the 2010 elections. Looking for the brighter side, I’m going to believe that each of us will pinch a few of them awake before November.

  16. February 19, 2012 at 11:37 pm

ESPN fired an employee responsible for an offensive headline about Knicks sensation Jeremy Lin.

The headline Friday on ESPN’s mobile website was used for a story about a New York loss in which Lin had nine turnovers. The headline was an idiom that contains a word that also can be used as a slur against Chinese.

So, on what do I base my confidence? First, there’s the president and his campaign team. After you watched Michael Jordan win his first championship, did you ever worry that he wouldn’t win more? Or, if you prefer football, think about Joe Montana and the San Francisco 49ers. Some teams are born champions. They are a cut above everyone else. Barack Obama and his campaign team are better at elections than anyone in history. And now they have the advantages of incumbency and four years to prepare. Are you impressed by Mitt Romney’s campaign team? Does anyone else even have a campaign team?

There are more reasons where this came from! Chin up! We have work to do..

Santorum leads both Gingrich and Robney by 30 in Texas.
Texas is a boat load of delegates.

    • 132 hopefruit2
      February 20, 2012 at 8:08 am

By the time the super Tuesday actually arrives, that will no longer be true. Wanna bet?

      • February 20, 2012 at 8:22 am

I don’t think Robney is as strong as you think he is, especially in the Republican primary.
        ITs all about Michigan!

        • 134 hopefruit2
          February 20, 2012 at 8:29 am

The recent ppp Michigan poll shows Robney gaining 11 points and Santorum leveling off. The Michigan primary is more than a week away. Lots of time for Romney to regain top position. And while it is true that Robney is an overall weak candidate, the GOP establishment (including the corporate media) will do any and everything in their power to ensure that Romney and not Santorum is the GOP nominee for President. This recent focus on Santorum is just another ploy to take the scrutiny off Romney.

          • February 20, 2012 at 8:41 am

And yet he is struggling, big time.

He is stronger in the general than the primary!

            • 136 hopefruit2
              February 20, 2012 at 8:53 am

Romney is not particularly strong in the general either. That’s what the GOPmedia wants voters to believe with their stupid head-to-head polls that don’t mean a darn thing 8 months out. The problem with Willard is that the more exposure he gets, the worse his ratings get…while the opposite is true for President Obama. In a general where Romney won’t have a car load of Klowns to distract and keep him away from scrutiny, the spotlight will be on his numerous flaws and deficiencies, and that’s where he will start eroding support – FAST.

          • February 20, 2012 at 8:45 am

Also, PPP had Gingrich surging in Florida, that turned out dead wrong!!!

          • February 20, 2012 at 9:17 am

I think you’re right, Hopefruit. Ricky has offered a sideshow. He may think he’s competing with Romney, but in the end, Romney’s megabucks and the establishment’s self-interest will produce a Romney nomination.

    • 139 hopefruit2
      February 20, 2012 at 8:11 am

        February 20, 2012 at 8:20 am

My crystal ball is often cloudy, but I think Santorum went into the toaster with his comments this weekend and will lose both primaries on February 28. He has peaked.

        • February 20, 2012 at 8:24 am

I don’t see any comments that Santorum made that will hurt him in a far right primary.
          In fact, just the opposite.
I know he scares liberals, but maybe that’s what we need to unite these different factions on the left!

Romney seems to be closing the gap in Michigan and Santorum’s comments will not help him pick up new supporters. I believe the Michigan primary is open, and there are only a limited amount of crazies in the state.

Regardless, if Romney loses Michigan, not only will it be terrible for him as a candidate, but it will also put the entire Republican party in a very bad position. Therefore, the GOP establishment is not about to let that happen. Even if it means FIXING the votes to make Romney the winner. Mark my words…Romney is going to win Michigan no matter what the polls may or may not say right now.

I agree with you Jovie, as long as Santorum is attacking President Obama the far right will have no problem with him, even if Santorum is lying his freaking head, the RW wouldn’t care.

I agree, Bill. Ricky has shot himself in the foot with his inability to hide his extremist positions. It will be interesting to see if Willard feels the need to match Ricky on the extremist fringe in the next debate, or, if he’ll call him on it. Either way, it’s tricky for Willard. If he matches Ricky, the loses Independent support. If he moves center, he risks giving base votes to Ricky. Ultimately, though, I don’t think the R’s would ever risk handing the nomination to a certified looney like Santorum. Willard will be the one meeting PBO next fall.

          I surely hope so Bill….

this racist..intolerant ideology alarms me…this maybe 2012 but it was not so long ago this kind of ideology spawned the Night Riders using the bible and such spread their terror mainly in the south…

i listened to some of the pundits on the political shows try to explain away Santorum’s ideology by saying that he really means what he says and that he is not a phony….so should that make his views acceptable???…

          i think NOT…

working hard in my own community…to register new voters….and indeed to get them to the polls…in addition a few weeks ago a TODer challenged us to make a personal commitment to get at least one person registered and to the polls…so i have my list…my two grandsons will be voting age this year….made it my business to make sure they are registered and then to vote….hoping that i can get them to go out with me when i phone bank and canvass….

          Presssssssssssss ON!

‘a few weeks ago a TODer challenged us to make a personal commitment to get at least one person registered and to the polls’

Oh Pf58, I had forgotten that! Thanks for the reminder. We were supposed to try for at least 1 person per month. It was Bebe and she did ask us to periodically remind the family of the goal. Okay guys, you have been reminded by Pf58. 😉

Morning Sue! I think our “Rise and Shine” will have something in store for us along the lines of what you suggested 🙂

Will you explain to me why McCain is negotiating a peace deal with the Taliban?
He is the last Mofo I want negotiating peace.

It’s the Obama administration that is negotiating the deal. McCain is not negotiating anything. On “This Week” with George Stephanopoulos (ABC) he said that he supported the 3-way peace talks between the US, Afghan gov’t and Taliban. Mitt Romney on the other hand is against the peace talks.

And then he said he wanted permanent bases there and was critical of the president announcing a date for withdrawal. Saying that it weakens our position!

He is not the President and it does not matter what he says. He is an old has-been who thinks he’s more important than he is.

As a long time reader of TOD, I just wanted to say how much this community refreshes and inspires me. It is so nice to come to a community where cynicism has not displaced the sense of civic duty, the need to look out for one another, the idea that public service is essential to the common good. My thanks Chipsticks and to you all for keeping it real, positive and fun.

Dave, congratulations on your new car. Especially love the after-market add-ons. I don’t have a new car, but drive a cobalt blue 4×4 Ford truck and decorate it with car magnets of Obama/Biden 2012.
