Over the past 20 years, nearly three-fourths of human-caused emissions came from the burning of fossil fuels. This statistic is a reminder that we must invest in more sustainable sources of energy and use our energy resources as efficiently as possible. One way weโ€™re doing this is by driving innovation in the renewable energy sector. The other way is by improving the energy sources we are already using.

As the largest domestically-produced source of energy here in the U.S., coal is used to generate about half of our nationโ€™s electricity. So how can we make traditional energy sources like coal cleaner and safer for all Americans?

Enter carbon capture utilization and storage, or CCUS โ€” a process that focuses on capturingย CO2ย emissions from sources such as coal-fired power plants and either reusing it or storing it so it will not enter the atmosphere. ย The commercial success of CCUS depends on developing more affordable technologies, since the cost of capturingย CO2ย from power plants is currently too high for wide-scale implementation.

What do WalMart, Coca-Cola, Sysco, and Whole Foods have in common?
Theyโ€™re leading the pack when it comes to hydrogen and fuel cells.
The Energy Departmentโ€™s “Business Case for Fuel Cells 2011” report illustrates how top American companies are using fuel cells in their business operations to advance their sustainability goals, save millions of dollars in electricity costs, and reduce carbon emissions by hundreds of thousands of metric tons per year.

I’m just now watching the video of him in the asian restaurant. For the life of me I can’t remember another candidate in recent time who acknowledged the asian population like this. I may have forgotten, but I don’t think it ever happened before.

And the way he takes the time to say hello, shakes hands and pose for photos with every single patron and then also the kitchen and wait staff – he’s one of a kind. I kept thinking, can you imagine W doing something like this? I’m going to have to try that restaurant out just for fun, see if they hung a photo or framed the autographed menu.

        He’s a people’s president! I’m sure you’ll find those momentos hanging there.

No I can’t imagine W doing that. He’ld be getting his hand spritzed every 2 seconds. Definitely can’t see Splattorum doing that. But I wouldn’t be surprised if Robme doesn’t search out a place to try it out. You know how he loves to copy everything PBO does. (such a loser)

On those very rare occasions where I can stand to listen to Robme speak for a whole excruciating minute, my hand reflexively goes to my forehead and signs the letter L for Loser hehehe

An East Sacramento Catholic high school recently received green energy updates that will make the school more efficient and teach students the importance of using renewable energy.

St. Francis High School recently added another California solar installation by completing a 253-kilowatt solar energy system in seven buildings, following campaigning, budgeting and planning for months to get the project up and running, Valley Community Newspapers reported.

The solar installation is expected to generate 31 percent of the school’s electricity and save the campus $1 million in energy costs over the next 20 years, the source stated. Environment California Research & Policy Center recently released a report called “California’s Solar Cities 2012: Leaders in the Race Toward a Clean Energy Future,” which revealed the 72-year-old all-female college preparatory school is a leader in renewable energy in the state. Schools around the area are now expected to follow suit and save themselves, and the state, money.

Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson praised efforts to make the school more energy efficient in the State of the City address at the city’s Convention Center, stating that the school’s commitment to making the campus more energy efficient is an example of how solar energy investments can be a great business decision for a property owner, create green jobs and improve the environment in the process.

POTENZA, Italy (Reuters) – Italian police said on Friday they had seized about $6 trillion worth of fake U.S. Treasury bonds and other securities in Switzerland, and arrested eight Italians accused of international fraud and other financial crimes.

The operation, co-ordinated by prosecutors from the southern Italian city of Potenza, was carried out by Italian, Swiss and U.S. authorities after a year-long investigation, an Italian police source said.

It began as a investigation into mafia loan-sharking, but gradually expanded as prosecutors used telephone and computer intercepts to unearth evidence of illegal activity surrounding Treasury bonds.

The fake securities, worth more than a third of U.S. national debt, were seized in January from a Swiss trust company where they were held in three large trunks.

Okay, this should Not go overlooked! It might have collapsed our market, if they were not caught.

Because of President Obama Boeing got the contract to produce the next generation of military jet tankers. The Bushites and John McCain had it all set to go to the Europeans Airbus company. The jobs stayed in America with American workers.

    • 175 LunarSea
      February 17, 2012 at 10:44 pm

A remember the wrangling he had to do to get that back from Airbus and how McCain & the southern congress critters screamed. Their non union shops would have been making parts for Airbus or something. Can’t remember the details now. I thought at the time he should have had a parade welcoming him back from that trip. Largest purchase ever at the airplane show in Europe.

I thought of that when listening to his speech at Boeing. A little comment he made that brought that incident straight to the front of my mind. He said (paraphrasing), ‘I will go anywhere to promote American products and bring manufacturing jobs back to America’.

It was buried in the speech and spoken without bluster. I was wishing he would just come right out and say something to the effect of, “Remember that trip I took to the Airplane Show in Europe….that you never heard about on the news…..” I can’t help but wonder if anyone knows….

      • February 18, 2012 at 1:04 am

But what often gets overlooked (on both sides of the Atlantic) is that a economically strong US is also an importer of European goods – this is particularly important to European countries like my own (the Netherlands) who basically live off of exports.

        February 18, 2012 at 8:07 am

‘It was buried in the speech and spoken without bluster’

Reading that JUST brought to mind a potential contradiction in my own reaction to the President. I love him to death because he speaks to me like I am an adult. I love him beyond words that he doesn’t ‘act’, as in a drama, but his acts are very purposeful and productive both long and short term. However it just clicked that because he DOESN’T bluster – a fact I love – many voting ‘adults’ miss a lot of his accomplishments, and that’s not a good thing. I suddenly wish HE could MAKE them love him.

On second thought, I don’t. It’s THEM, not him! They need to LISTEN AND take him at his word.

        – If Bin Laden is in Pakistan and I have credible info, I’ll go get him. Reaction = ‘naive’ Result = CHECKMARK
        – I’ll end the war in Iraq. Reaction = ‘inexperienced’ Result = CHECKMARK
        – I intend to get affordable healthcare to Americans. Reaction = ‘overreach’ Result = CHECKMARK
        – I’ll broaden our position in Asia. Reaction = ‘unnoticed’ Result = CHECKMARK
        etc. etc.

Wake up America, this president doesn’t bluster. He is, and has ALWAYS been a man of his word! All we need to do is support, AND ENCOURAGE OTHERS to VOTE for him.

I signed up for the Truth Team and got a Truth Team tipsheet email from Stephanie Cutter. There’s this p.s. at the end:

Here’s a fun fact: Did you know President Obama is Irish? Last year, he visited his ancestors’ town in Ireland and joked, “My name is Barack Obama, of the Moneygall Obamas, and I’ve come home to find the apostrophe we lost somewhere along the way.” So we created new “O’bama” shirts, just in time for St. Patrick’s Day.

When I was walking down the street today, at the northern edge of downtown, just after lunch, two very large dark green helicopters flew over, slowly, kind of in tandem; I don’t really think one was Marine One, as there was only a little bit of white on it, but they seemed as if they were flying escort maybe? In its annual economic report to Congress released Friday, the White House forecast the economy would create 2 million jobs in 2012. That’s an average of 167,000 new jobs per month, up from the 1.8 million jobs created in 2011.

The report predicted a โ€œmoderateโ€ economic recovery this year and sought to blame an unexpected downturn in 2011 on last summerโ€™s debt-ceiling debacle in Congress.
The document says โ€œself-inflicted woundsโ€ from the debt-ceiling standoff contributed to weakness last year, which is being remedied by stronger growth this year.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) threatened on Friday that he would recommend the White House make recess appointments of all 90 outstanding executive nominees if he did not receive cooperation from the GOP for confirmation through the Senate’s advise and consent function.

“If something doesn’t break here I am going to recommend to the president that he recess-appoint all of these nominees,โ€ said Reid. “[E]very single one. It’s not as if there isn’t some way to respond to this.”

Most Republicans in the Senate remain furious with President Obama for his January recess appointments of several executive nominations โ€” a move they say was a gross violation of the U.S. Construction.ย

I’ve written before about the Obama Administration’s breakthrough efforts to fight health care fraud and abuse. Now there’s more, $4.1 billion more.

Earlier this week, U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder and HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius announced that the federal government recovered $4.1 billion in taxpayer dollars from individuals and corporations attempting to steal Medicare and Medicaid payments to which they were not entitled.

What’s $4.1 billion? It is the largest amount of money ever recovered, by far, in the history of the programs since they were established in 1965.
