I have shared this video of FLOTUS with a lot of my friends and family today and they all tell me how they cried through the entire video. 🙂

Me too, I started tearing up with the lady started crying….she could not believe she got the chance to get to meet let alone hug the first lady (could you tell who were “R”?, I could). I loved the little girls who were so surprised they didn’t know their mouths were wide open…so cute. We have the best family ever in the WH.

I am from my trip to San Diego (all the way from Pasadena, CA). That town is so RW I could not wait to get the hell out of there. All of talk radio is WH awful. I had NO RANDI RHODES until 2PM this afternoon. I have my high speed internet so I can appreciate all the videos now. All I could do was log in here and read with ocassionally making a comment. The free WiFi was soooooo slow.

Poor JoJo “all the way from Pasadena to San Diego”. But you’re right, once you hit the Orange curtain, you can feel the R chill all the way to SD. Although I do have some friends in SD who hold fast to POTUS & FLOTUS.

GGail, I am one of those in San Diego who is 1000% for President Obama. Please JoJothecat don’t judge San Dieogoans by the talk Radio stations which are all extreme right wingers. If I am not mistaken, I think President Obama did very well in San Diego in 2008. I know he won the vote in the city although I am not sure if he won the entire San Diego County. My Congresswoman, Susan Davis, is liberal. We have another member of Congress, Bob Filner who is an unabashed Liberal. So, not all San Diego is RW! Although I was unable to attend, last weekend the San Diego chapter of OFA held a big fundraiser that featured California’s Lt. Governor. Yes, the Talk Radio shows are extremely conservative; and so are many parts of San Diego County that elect people like Duncan Hunter, Brian Billbray and Darrell Issa. Never the less, that is not the case with many voters in many other sections of San Diego County, especially the city of San Diego, who are strong and committed progressive Democrats.

Bringing this from the other thread, because, you know, no one’s ever died from too much good news.

Obama poised to win 2012 election with 303 electoral votes: The Signal Forecast.

And in case you think he’ll get only 303 EV:

This may be a conservative estimate for Obama, because January’s economic indicators suggest that the states are likely to experience greater-than-average income growth in the first quarter. We will update our predictions accordingly when the actual data from the current year is available.

A key finding of the model is that economic trends—whether things are getting better or worse than they were a month ago—are more meaningful than the level state of the economy. In other words, whether the unemployment rate is increasing or decreasing is more important than what the unemployment rate actually is.

    • February 16, 2012 at 7:39 pm

How about 538 electoral votes? 303 is way below hat he got in 2008.

      • February 16, 2012 at 7:42 pm

The article itself said that it’s being conservative. It has NC, FL, and IN going GOP. I think all 3 will stay Dem, which will mean a bunch more EV.

        • February 16, 2012 at 7:49 pm

I know. I am comfortable with NC and FL staying blue. Indiana is a toughie, but the auto industry revival has had a big impact there as well, so I think he will pull that one in. I think AZ, GA, MO and TX might well flip blue as well. That would put him over 400.

          • February 16, 2012 at 7:56 pm

I can see AZ and MO flipping blue. If GA and TX do so as well I might have to make myself a special cocktail that night.

LL, I will be on the phone calling you to get you cocktail recipe so that I may join you as this would be a memorable and historical landslide! I just love the positive vibes coming from you and Japa21! I actually agree with you that the President is likely to win again in NC, FL, and IN. If President Obama can also miraculously win AZ, GA, MO and TX, the GOP will be history for a while. Hopefully the President’s win will also mean that Democrats will regain the majority in the House of Representatives and increase their numbers as majority in the Senate. If that were to happen, GOP obstructionists in Congress would be forced to STFU! The President would have an unmistakable mandate to implement his policies. I know I am dreaming, but I am determined to work my butt off to see that happen.

O.K. LL, You don’t have to worry about me calling you on the phone as I do not know your phone number. But the idea that President Obama could possibly win AZ, MO, GA and TX propelled me in another world. I would want to be in constant communications and sharing in celebrations with all the positive people at TOD who imagined that possibility only to see it translate into reality.

Wow he doesn’t even need Florida to get more than 300 EV’s

This is pretty awesome because he could (god-forbid) also lose Ohio and Virginia and still win the nomination with 272 as long as he wins all of the other states. Wow!

Lots of scenarios to that magic number. Still we will need to work as if we are 100 EV’s down because the Repubs will try every dirty trick they can to steal this election.

      • 44 JojoRaze
        February 16, 2012 at 8:08 pm

I think PBO will keep VA, FL, NC and all the Midwest states he got last time, except for IN. I still think Mitt Romney will be the nominee and once people hear that he basically said we should allow the housing market to drop–doing nothing–he’ll be creamed. I also think PBO will keep NV, NM, maybe Colorado.

      • February 16, 2012 at 8:12 pm

I don’t think FL will go red. The GOP is too unpopular there at the moment. And polling shows that PBO is ahead in NC. As japa said, IN will be tough, but the renaissance of the auto industry should help, as well as crazycon Gov. Daniels. If you vote for a union-busting governor, then the “Republican” unions shouldn’t be surprised when he, you know, limits unions.

For me right now, I like Japa’s very optimistic map that puts AZ, GA, MO and TX in the mix. Unlike Bill Clinton who had personal issues, or Dubya who had to deal with the Iraq mess, or Siant Ronnie who had to deal with the Iran-contra scandal, President Obama’s second term could prove to be very historic; especially if he was able to get a Congress controlled by Democrats. With a Democratic controlled Congress, President Obama would be able to enact his policies that would build a stable economy based on reviving U.S. manufacturing and fostering clean energy that reduces dependence on fossil fuels.

THE LEDE: Congressional negotiators have included a nationwide public safety radio network as part of a package to extend a payroll tax cut.

The network is one of the last outstanding recommendations of the 9/11 Commission Report. Police and firefighters from different jurisdictions had difficulty communicating with each other as they responded to the terrorist attacks in 2001, leading to unnecessary deaths, according to the report. Similar communication breakdowns occurred during the response to Hurricane Katrina.

First-responders from across the country would rely on the new interoperable network, allowing them to communicate across agencies. The high-speed broadband network would also allow first-responders to send high-quality videos during emergencies.

The legislation sets aside $7 billion to build the nationwide network.

“Today is monumental for all Americans and our future safety,” said Sen. Jay Rockefeller (D-W.Va.), who has fought for the network for years. “There is truly nothing more important than safety. And for those courageous and selfless first responders that risk their lives to save others every single day, this is the least we can do.”

The network is a piece of broader language that would restructure how the country uses its airwaves. By auctioning off broadcaster airwave licenses to wireless carriers, the provisions would raise a net $15 billion to help pay for extending unemployment insurance.

A single-engine plane that entered Marine One’s airspace near Los Angeles – and was escorted to the ground by a pair of F-16s – was found to have drugs aboard when searched by local law enforcement.

Police at Long Beach Airport found marijuana aboard the Cessna 182, which was intercepted by the two NORAD fighters around shortly after noon Thursday, according to NBC 4.

“Two F-16 fighters scrambled out of March Air Reserve Base in Riverside County, California, to respond to a temporary flight restriction violation by a Cessna 182 aircraft over Los Angeles. After intercepting the aircraft, the F-16s followed it until it landed without incident at approximately 12:30 p.m. MST, where the plane was met by local law enforcement,” NORAD said in a statement released later Thursday.

Did anyone catch the young lady on Ed Show afew minutes ago? She was talking about how that S.O.B Darrell Issa refuse to let her speak at that hearing he had today. She talked about a friend of hers who took birth control for her health. The friend ended up having to try to pay for the birth control herself, but she couldn’t, so she ended up stop taking them and it wasn’t long before a tumor grew on her ovaries, it had to be remove, but now she probably won’t be able to have kids, plus she is in early menopause, at 30 years of age. Now you know why that SOB Darrell Issa refuse to allow that young lady to testify.

We don’t even have to worry about Issa. He is in a very conservative district that is unlikely to vote for a Democrat. All we need to do is focus on electing Democrats in Congressional districts that are toss-ups in order to regain the Democratic majority in the House of Representatives. Once the Democrats are in control of Congress, Darrell Issa, who has a history of being a crook, will be nothing but a footnote.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – If all goes as hoped, U.S. and Qatari negotiators will meet soon to nail down final details for transferring Taliban prisoners from Guantanamo prison – a momentous step for President Barack Obama, the Afghan war and perhaps U.S. foreign policy as well.

Should U.S., Afghan and Qatari officials reach agreement, the Obama administration’s careful diplomatic choreography then calls for the Afghan Taliban to open an office in Qatar to conduct peace talks with the Western-backed Afghan government.

The Taliban would be expected to make a statement condemning international terrorism.

Wall Street close reaches pre-crisis high

Shares in New York hit levels not seen since before the 2008 financial crisis on Thursday after good news regarding unemployment figures.

The weekly report of new claims for unemployment benefits fell to their lowest level since March 2008.

The Dow Jones index of leading companies closed up 122.76 points, or 0.96%, to 12,903.71, its highest level since May 2008.

The tech-based Nasdaq index soared to its highest level since December 2000.

Meanwhile, the broader S&P 500 index touched its highest point since May 2011.

It came as weekly applications for unemployment benefits fell to a seasonally adjusted 348,000, the Labor Department said.

As well as being the lowest number in almost four years, unemployment applications have dropped by 11% in four months.

There had also been positive earnings news during the day from carmaker GM.

It unveiled record profits for 2011 and saw its shares soar by 9%.

(RTTNews) – Two suspected US drone strikes have killed at least 17 militants in Pakistan’s restive North Waziristan tribal agency, media reports citing unnamed Pakistani intelligence officials said Thursday.

Thursday’s first drone strike targeted a militant compound in Spalga town near Miranshah, the main town in North Waziristan. Five suspected militants were killed in that drone strike.

Some 12 hours later, another drone fired missiles at a car in the Khaisoor area of North Waziristan’s Mir Ali town. Officials said some twelve suspected militants were killed in the attack, including eight foreigners.

Actually I had someone from OFA call me in early Dec for $1200. I told her I support a variety of small donors and she was able to tell exactly how much I had donated to date. I think she finally got $75 from me but she was very nice.

pinkbunny, Sue was saying here earlier that she had a very similar experience with someone from OFA Colorado pressuring her for a donation. I think you should report this to OFA HQ. It doesn’t sound like OFA and I’m wondering if their system has either been hacked or they’ve hired an agency to do their fundraising. It’s very rude and improper and shouldn’t continue.

I just find it too hard to believe someone who is dedicated to the Re-elect Obama-Biden would be so heavily pressuring people on their calling/mailing list. Agree with the idea to report it to HQ, I suspect it is GOP hate tactics. Sounds like the kind of crap they would try.

DF and Pamela are correct. It would be wise if we stay doubtful of any and everything we get this season unless it is proveable beyond doubt that any calls are from PBO’s headquarters and satellites. We all know how desperate rethugs are right now, and nothing is beneath them (of course they can’t get any lower already) to try to diminish support and opportunity in any way they can hate up.

      February 16, 2012 at 9:59 pm

I’m suspicious as well. It doesn’t sound like OFA at all.

      • February 16, 2012 at 10:13 pm

Especially since the majority of Pres Obama donors are small money donors. The whole thing smells fishy. I’ve never heard of people from OFA calling people and asking them for money over the phone, and especially being pushy or asking for specific dollar amounts. I hope everyone who’s getting these calls is reporting them to OFA. Sounds like these dubious people are trying to stop people from donating to the campaign.

        • February 16, 2012 at 11:22 pm

Call OFA immediately and report this. The next time this happens, get a name, city, state, and specifically what OFA office they are calling from and ask for the number, if you do not have Caller ID.

Then, make sure you ask them why that specific amount that they are asking for at the time of the call. Make sure you get a name and position. Ask them to give you a call back number, please. Then call the number and see who answers. But first tell them to hold on, and ask them to call you back in a few minutes so you can get your credit call. Wait for the call(I am sure they will not call back) and then compare the numbers, and tell them that you are going to report them to the proper legal officials immediately.

Document everything that is said by you and the person who called you. Also make sure that you tell them you would love to give, but would not be able to give today, but will be able to do so within a few days, may you have an address to mail it to them. See what address that give you, and see how fast they give you the address. (Make sure that you have the OFA main office address near your phone at all times for this purpose.

This sounds so fishy. I would get on this immediately. You might be able to help so many more people by doing this. HZ

  28. February 16, 2012 at 9:05 pm

So let’s see a group of likeminded men trying to justify in their minds and to the extreme left wing of the party that the know what is best for women. Shall I just put on my burka now and have my brother walk with me and my male family members make all my decisions? If the republicans were worried about Sharia law landing on the American doorstep they need to look no further than the next mirror.

    • February 16, 2012 at 10:16 pm

You know, I saw a clip of Mitt saying that it’s the typical political game to accuse your opponent of what you’re doing yourself. When they were passing laws about Sharia and accusing the President of trying to impose a dictatorship – they were busy planning to do it themselves. Wasn’t there a congressman who actually said that they’re playing from the Taliban playbook? Sounds like he was speaking the truth.

Its as if he’s the forerunner of what the human race has the potential to become. I feel many people here on TOD resonate with that, as we share what has meaning in our lives, and find a great deal of common bond. Then you look at certain others, I can’t bear to mention names, the list is huge, and it’s hard not to despair over how far we as a species have yet to go! I think that’s why we find so much love and light and laughter here in this special piece of cyberspace, but how many of us know each other in real time? Yet I find so much kinship with you all, I burst out laughing at odd times for no apparent reason, other than something I read here that just keeps me laughing! the mental plane is also very real, and using the internet to build relationships, in certain circumstances such as these, is valid, as the common thread is not personal but aimed at bettering life for the common good. No one here seeks personal gain. That is the most important thing about a group vision such as PBO demonstrates. We are greater together! Hope that makes sense, my phone is chiming….

        • February 16, 2012 at 10:25 pm

Funny how that rethug “thinks” PBO’s forcing the churches into the BC argument is going to backfire on him. I guess he hasn’t been keeping up with the latest so-called compromise, which the heads of the churches are okay with, but the rethugs want to keep as an assault tactic. Apparently he hasn’t perused any polls which shows most Catholics agree with PBO. Talking about forced stupidity.

    • February 16, 2012 at 10:23 pm

The woman doing the report sounds like she’s from FOX “news”. She painted everything with a negative, and then let the Republican person spout things that were simply untrue (churches and synagogues were completely exempted from the original contraception rule, and she didn’t even bother to correct him).

I used to hear this when I was young, I think it a gross and disgusting way of saying women should keep their legs closed if they don’t want to get pregnant. Very out of touch, very unclassy. These are the men who try to say it is always the woman’s fault…. Then when the 70’s came in, so many of us stood up for ourselves, and our futures, and our daughters’ futures… The Women’s Movement was a wonderful time, very proud to have been part of it! You all should take Pink Bunny’s complaint seriously. Someone is hitting on POTUS’ supporters and maybe getting away with money fraudulently and POTUS’ fundraising may be losing money. Get OFA to alert supporters to this scam? The campaign does not ask anyone for so much money.

    • February 16, 2012 at 9:47 pm

I think the thinking that this may be orchestrated by the GOP is accurate. This is exactly the type of thing they like to do to mess up things. Plus, they may well be recording the call to see if they can get anything to use at some other time, ala Breitbart.

I remember during the first campaign, somehow the GOP got hold of the DNC members lists, I was getting crap in the mail from them nearly every damn day… Made me crazy. What many of us decided to do (on old OFA blog) was take the prepaid envelop and mail it back to them, sometimes I would draw the Obama logo on the back, or stuff it with all their paper except the one with my name on it, and let them pay the postage. So far this year I haven’t had anything from them, but if I do, they will get my recycling in the reply envelope! Squander their funds, I will!

It sounds to me like these may indeed be overzealous OFA volunteers who are pushing too hard. I actually got a call a few months ago from an OFA Florida volunteer who kept trying to get me to give $100 over the phone. I told her that I’d already gotten quite a few calls over the past few weeks (I had, just ignored them when they came up on the caller ID until this one) and that their methods were really overzealous and I’d donate online like I always do every month, but to stop pushing it and for them to chill with the phone calls. I haven’t gotten another call since. I can easily see them being given directions to push as hard as possible to raise money for the campaign, and when you have enthusiastic but inexperienced people doing this, you get stuff like this.

  35. February 16, 2012 at 9:46 pm

Oh. My. Fricking . Gosh! I love Michelle Obama! I just finished watching the video-thanks, Chips- and I almost died laughing! The ending was hilarious when she was greeting her last guests. She pointed in the little girl’s direction and was like: “eat your vegetables,” “do well in school,” “listen to your teachers,” “listen to your parents” and on and on long after the girl is out of the video frame. It was hilarious, I think you could hear the camera man laughing as she kept going. It was too funny. Then Miche started to laugh. Gosh. I think O’Donnell is trying to encourage Santorum, because he said last night that he would invite Santorum on his show and softball the questions so that we can have a debate between Pres Obama and Santorum – he thinks it would be the ultimate battle between right and wrong, I guess. This does not get any better than this. Not only the CEO says the Obama administration saved them and “the country” but he also DEMOLISHES Romney’s argument about a bankrupcy.

i suspect that our dear Chips will post the video tomorrow morning lol.

If there is ONE video that every voter should see, it’s this one.

So sad though that the CEO felt the need to say “at the risk of alienating a lot of customers”. I’m not angry at him because I appreciate his honesty and his acknowledgement of what Team Obama did. I’m just sad to hear a reminder of the negative attitude of so many republicans.

I see it all the time here. One of these media hogs says something favorable toward PBO and people report it like it’s some big revival. No. It’s all theatre for these clowns. They pull you in with something nice and seemingly reasonable, then turn around to jack you up (in old-school speak). This is their bread and butter. They don’t care about you. They don’t care about POTUS. If they did, they’d be consistently good. I don’t care that they have to pay the piper that is corporations. Rev Al rarely, if ever, lets folk get away with demeaning PBO, and he works for the same company. Do you think they have different contracts, that specify different terms? No, they are just self-serving bimbos lucky enough to have found a way to make millions of dollars off of keeping us in limbo, watching and hoping they will be fair. Damn them. At this point I laugh at people who complain about him because, really, he’s been an idiot for years, and you must enjoy the punishment if you’re still watching him regularly. Pundits of any political stripe, by and large, suck. The very few who don’t tend to have some sort of reporting background.

I’m watching LOD. What a nasty piece of work Arianna Huffington is. I’m so glad I don’t go to the Huffington post anymore. She’s saying that African Americans should be upset with the President because he is the first African American President and they are worse of under his leadership than before he took office. What an utter fraud. I can’t stand that woman.

      February 16, 2012 at 11:05 pm

“Utter fraud” does not even begin to cover it. She was a rabid Republican for years. Moved on to become a “Liberal” and is now selling “beyond left and right.” She’s an opportunist PURE and SIMPLE. As an African American, I am beyond pissed that she would presume to tell me WHAT TO THINK OF PRESIDENT OBAMA. What black people does Arianna Huffington hang out with? Who are her friends? Give me a break. OK enough ranting for the night…

Now how can a white ass rich woman, who don’t know a dam thing about black Americans tell us how we should feel about President Obama? People like her really make me sick. Oh how I wish I could get in touch with that bitch, excuse me and my language tonight but I can’t stand that woman.

        February 16, 2012 at 11:41 pm

That woman is as unhappy about the good economic news as any Republican which clearly means she is a REPUBLICAN. I’m black and I am better off than I was 3 or 4 years ago. I’m amazed at all this concern about black unemployment. I just don’t remember hearing much about it when other presidents were in office. I wonder why?

The first 40 minutes of his show was horrible tonight. I don’t like AWagner or CHayes which is why I don’t watch their crappy shows so I don’t want to see their smug faces on Lawrence’s show, who I generally do like. I left the room until they were done only to return to see that b*tch, AHuff. I knew I should have changed the channel but thought their conversation is about the Repugs and contraception so I felt it was safe to watch because they were unlikely to talk abpout PBO, but I should know by now that these folks are obsessed with him and they always find a way to drag him into any discussion. And if I hear one poor of these priviledged no-talent hacks say PBO is lucky I’ll scream. I don’t think I have ever seen anyone work so hard and travel so much on behalf of the people of this coiuntry. These people make me sick.

I have high hopes for MHP and I intend to watch her show this weekend and I am hoping her ratings will be significatnly higher than Wagner, Hayes, Ratigan, Joke, Todd, Schultz and Matthews to show them all what a truly intellectual and analytical political show looks like.

I’m with you on all that L3. The only thing is that MSNBC has producer that direct the shows activities. That could be a problem especially if she gets jerks to talk to. Besides, this is a part-time gig for her.

            February 17, 2012 at 12:49 am

If MHP start her show with that, it will be DOA for me. She knows exactly where PBO stand on that subject and I don’t see any need for her to go down that slippery slope at this point.

            • February 17, 2012 at 1:24 am

Maybe we should tweet her and remind her that most of the people rooting for her are in support of President Obama, and the quickest way to lower her viewership is to unfairly bash the President. I don’t mind criticism – Steve Benen does it beautifully. We just don’t need one more source for Obama-bashing.

Sad but when LOD use to guest host for KO, before he had his own show he was introduced as LOD from Huffington Post.
so perhaps he let her ramble on because he thinks he owes her, since today was a bad day for the Republicans, but she is transparent
IMO and has been repeating the same shit about President Obama since he got elected “its about the economy” now
it is the economy and the black community, she is fooling no one this how she attempts to split votes within the Democratic Party.

Thank you Chips, I just finished the video of the visitors to the WH. I cried, smile, laughed and just really enjoyed watching the sincere, honest, loving, kind heart of a woman who is truly fitting to be the wife of POTUS.

The visitors were just so surprised and grateful and showed much love to a woman who certainly deserves it all. With all the hate and disrespect they have tried to pin on this woman. I think we all know the GOP should realize this is one classy, intelligent woman that has set the bar so high in all areas that none of their plastic Barbie dolls will never be able to contend with.

Four more years that I am definitely looking forward to enjoying.
Another beautiful day to be alive!
Sweet sleep, all. We need the rest thanks to Ms. Chips’ skills.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) on Thursday night said the Senate could take up to four roll call votes on Friday in order to clear business in time for a 10-day home work period.

The four votes will likely include a cloture vote on the highway bill, a cloture vote on the nomination of Jesse Furman to be a judge on the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, a cloture vote on the conference report to extend the payroll tax cut through the end of the year, and an up or down vote on that report.

Just one last look at POTUS’ schedule tomorrow and I am tired already. I do remember seeing a picture up above of him yawning. And then is off to the next engagement. I am tired catching up with all that has happened in the last couple of weeks and he just keep going and going.

And our FLOTUS had to be on the welcome line for at least an hour or more. But she still was gracious and kind to the very last three persons.
All I know is that we must keep them in the WH for four more years. We need them to finish what they started and I am getting very used to going to bed and getting up feeling encouraged, positive and motivated. Even though I do not trust the repugs and their motives.

But it is reassuring to know that Our President is pressing forward waiting for them to catch up.
Thank you POTUS and FLOTUS ! You too, BO.

PBO just finished his event for the evening. Local news is showing excerpts from his speech and he is FIRED UP. He got a great reception except for one heckler about 10 minutes into his speech, of course. PBO make a comment about hecklers in SF, but the newscaster was talking over that comment so I couldn’t hear it. ARGH.

He racked up over $3 million in SF alone and I think he raised $3 million in LA.

Obama jokes about a future tour with Al Green

(AP) SAN FRANCISCO — President Barack Obama and the Rev. Al Green on tour?

Obama was joined by the soul singer at a Democratic fundraiser on Thursday, a month after the president launched into a brief, impromptu version of Green’s “Let’s Stay Together” at New York’s Apollo Theater.

Obama thanked Green, prompting a member of the audience to shout, “Give us a verse!” The president declined to sing this time, telling about 70 campaign donors that he “took a chance at the Apollo and I’m not going to take a chance again.”

“After re-election I might go on tour with the good reverend — be his opening act,” Obama said.

But he warned, “I don’t want to lose any further votes because of my singing voice.”

Obama’s crooning of “Let’s Stay Together,” starting with the vibrato “I” and finishing up with the line “so in love with you,” quickly went viral on the Internet following the New York City fundraiser. His campaign released a ring tone of the president’s turn as a soul singer.

Prior to the president’s remarks on Thursday, Green was overheard singing his classic song at the fundraiser in San Francisco’s Pacific Heights neighborhood.

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/robert-f-kennedy-jr/fox-news-will-not-be-moving-into-canada-after-all_b_829473.html

As America’s middle class battles for its survival on the Wisconsin barricades — against various Koch Oil surrogates and the corporate toadies at Fox News — fans of enlightenment, democracy and justice can take comfort from a significant victory north of Wisconsin border. Fox News will not be moving into Canada after all! The reason: Canada regulators announced last week they would reject efforts by Canada’s right wing Prime Minister, Stephen Harper, to repeal a law that forbids lying on broadcast news.

Tim Geithner is brilliant and calm ,but he is kicking the crap out of them. I love Tim Geithner. Always have. I love this man. I would hate to see him leave. But he is serving the people and the President brilliantly at this time in our history. He is fighting for this budget for the President. If you all can ssee this, try to catch it this weekend on C-SPAN2 this weekend.

TODers, our work is out their for us this time. We need to get the fools out of the House. They are a bunch of …. well you all know what I mean. Let us get to work and send their behinds home. These are just nasty people. Really deep down in their spirits, they are very evil and ugly people.HZ

In addition to saving the American auto industry our president saved a major part of our aircraft industry when he reversed the decision to have our military tankers be built by the Europeans and instead be built by Boeing. They loved him in Western Washington as he saved many thousands of jobs and business.

    http://www.addictinginfo.org/2012/02/16/poor-republicans-angry-at-government-because-government-doesnt-do-enough/

I call it the “Brownie affect.” Remember “Heck of a job, (Michael Brown) Brownie,” who ran FEMA during Hurricane Katrina? During the Bush administration, we lived in Bizarro World. Up was down. Red was green and a horse lawyer ran the Federal Emergency Management Agency, really poorly as you might recall. If you think that Brownie was simply poor judgment on the part of the Bush administration, you are wildly underestimating the Republican party. The nomination of a horse lawyer to FEMA was very intentional. Hurricane Katrina, in the opinion of Republicans was a stroke of luck. First Mom, Barbara Bush, even thought it was a stroke of luck for the victims of Katrina.

The thesis of the Republican party is that government doesn’t work, ergo, most, if not all government services, must be turned over to the private sector (a.k.a., friends of Republican politicians). Taxpayers will still pay for the private sector to take care of the services, but they’ll simply get to pay more to probably get less. What better way is there to prove that government doesn’t work than by putting incompetent people in government to ensure that government doesn’t work?

UAW Bonuses on Record GM Profit May Lift Economy

The rebound in carmaker profits is putting money into the pockets of U.S. workers after years of belt-tightening. GM yesterday reported a record $9.19 billion in net income for 2011, which will mean profit-sharing bonuses of as much as $7,000 for 47,500 eligible UAW members. That’s an all-time high for GM, and up from an average of $4,300 for the company’s U.S. union workers last year.
The payouts, scheduled for March 2, come on top of similar bonuses at Ford Motor Co. (F) and Chrysler Group LLC. The money may help lift the economies of states with unionized auto factories such as Michigan, Ohio and Kentucky.
“This is a day that none of us thought we’d see,” said Harley Shaiken, labor professor at University of California at Berkeley. “Given what UAW workers have been through, if there is a time to buy something, it is now.”

    GREAT NEWS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2012-02-16/obama-s-election-prospects-rise-with-economic-data.html

The economy is looking better to the American public and with it President Barack Obama’s re-election prospects.
Claims for jobless benefits unexpectedly dropped last week to the lowest level in almost four years, providing fresh evidence the job market is on the mend, and reports released yesterday on housing and manufacturing also beat forecasters’ expectations.
The Bloomberg Consumer Comfort Index climbed for a fourth straight week to reach the highest level in a year. Sentiment is rising even among those who have yet to benefit from the recovery, as payrolls expand and the unemployment rate drops. Jobless Americans are the most optimistic since April 2008.
“Political independents have a markedly better view of the prospects for better times than they did just a few months ago, and Obama is running much more strongly among independents than he was a few months ago,” Andrew Kohut, president of the nonpartisan Pew Research Center in Washington, said. “Reports such as those out yesterday will only reinforce this notion that things are getting better.”
Economic confidence among independents, a voter group targeted by both parties, surged to a four-year high earlier this month, the Bloomberg Consumer Comfort Index (COMFBTWR) showed. Sentiment among Republicans in the period ended Feb. 12 was the highest since July, while Democrats were the most optimistic since mid-December, the gauge showed.

    From the same Bloomberg article:

Obama campaign manager Jim Messina trumpeted the earnings results with a message on Twitter: “Glad we didn’t let Detroit fail as Romney suggested. Never bet against the American worker!”
Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum scoffed at the idea that bailout package helped the auto industry.
GM and Chrysler would be “alive and equally as well, or better off, than they are now,” Santorum told about 300 people at a Detroit Economic Club luncheon yesterday. “The markets would have reacted to restructure it to be more competitive.”

Little Rick says that the bailout package didn’t need to happen and Detroit would have been JUST FINE 🙂 Where’s that Tweet from the GM CEO praising the bailout for saving the auto industry? These guys are nuts!

    http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2012-02-16/jobless-claims-in-u-s-fall-to-four-year-low-correct-.html

Stocks rose on evidence that the U.S. expansion is gaining strength in the face of the European crisis and a slowdown in China. The decline in claims for jobless benefits coincides with a pickup in hiring that pushed the unemployment rate down to a three-year low last month, giving consumers the confidence to increase spending.
“The economy’s wheels just keep spinning faster and faster,” said Chris Rupkey, chief financial economist at Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ Ltd. in New York. He also said payrolls are likely to rise by more than 200,000 for a third straight month in February.
