Isn’t it though? The cut of it is perfect for her figure and the way it seems to flow with her as she moves. It is striking! Classic perfection! I wonder if PBO sees this picture, he thinks “wonder if I can get a date with this woman?”

i love the way she makes the classics fresh and vital, and very much her own. i think first ladies usually try to be formal, in deference to the position just as pbo is almost always in a suit and tie. but formal turns into dowdy, and then that becomes the standard! mrs obama has shaken the dusty victorian buttons off of women’s business attire. i’m so proud of her, for stepping right up in this role.

Dave, you know a smart, good-looking, stylish woman when you see one, that’s what you know. And you ain’t the only one. Barack Obama must have been stunned anytime he offered to quit his job (they worked at the same law firm) when Michelle told him that she didn’t date people where she worked.

We have never seen a First Lady like Michelle Obama. She is just magnificent!

President Obama will lay out a budget blueprint on Monday that amounts to an election-year bet that a plan for higher taxes on the rich and more spending on popular programs like infrastructure and manufacturing will trump concerns over the deficit.

South Africa is to issue a complete set of banknotes bearing the image of its first black president, Nelson Mandela.

Mr Mandela, now 93, was released from prison on 11 February 1990 after 27 years in prison.

President Jacob Zuma said the banknotes were a “humble gesture” to express South Africa’s “deep gratitude”.

    It’s about time.

When you hear something like Newt Gingrich or Donald Trump say that we don’t have any role models, first of all they are lying bastards. Second of all I dare any one to tell me that President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama aren’t good role models. I’ll slap them in their “MF” face. It’s amazing that white men like that who don’t know a darn thing about black community, trying to tell us who our role models are.

Bumbling buffoons of negativity. It will be the undoing of them. Happy Damn Day!

“How many of you,” Scott Rasmussen asked the crowd at this week’s Conservative Political Action Conference, “have ever mocked or made fun of the president’s call for hope and change? Raise your hands.”

Most people in the Marriott Wardman Park hotel ballroom raised their hands. There were cheers and whoops.

“With all due respect,” the conservative pollster and commentator told them, “I’d like to say that’s really stupid.”

This time, there was uncomfortable laughter. “Voters are looking for hope and change as much today as they were in 2008,” Rasmussen explained, and “you ought to be encouraging Republican candidates, people you support, to offer that positive step forward.”

Rasmussen had put his finger on a major problem for Republicans in 2012, and conservatives in particular: At a time when the national mood has begun to improve, they remain nattering nabobs of negativism. At CPAC, any hint of a “positive step” was buried in vitriol.

      • February 11, 2012 at 4:25 pm

It was Vice President Spiro Agnew who made those alliterative descriptions famous. He was always using them. Before Nixon resigned, he was under investigation by the United States Attorney’s office in Baltimore, Maryland, on charges of extortion, tax fraud, bribery and conspiracy. In October, he was formally charged with having accepted bribes while holding office as Baltimore County Executive, Governor of Maryland, and Vice President of the United States.

He was allowed to plead “No Contest” to the charges if he resigned as Vice President, which he did, and President Nixon appointed Gerald Ford Vice President to take his place. Nixon must have felt besieged because he was going through the Watergate investigation
and resigned himself not long afterward.

Natttering nabobs of negativity always reminds me of this man. I remember him as shaped something like an egg with a rather large nose, poor guy. He was of Greek extraction, first Greek American to hold such a high public office in the United States.

Life is hard, and then we die. Spiro died in 1996, I think.

And I love FLOTUS, too. She’s flat out beautiful, no question.

Through all of the past 3 years, and especially the past 2 weeks, President Obama has evidenced his comprehensive understanding of the Bill of Rights and the rigid boundary the Founding Fathers erected between State and Church (they despised any form of ‘theocracy’ irrespective of which ‘god’ or ‘prophet’ some group espoused).

Tried to crystallize it in 140 characters in language anyone capable of reading should understand:

FLOTUS is beauty and grace personified from the inside out. Now that the repubs. have recognized her personal power it makes them all the more willing to go after her unlike some of the Stepford Wifes. FLOTUS, is her own person and both she and PBO share a discipline that keeps them above the ugliness. Too much which is solely (IMO) based on racism.

They had better tread very carefully if they do choose to make a mistake like this! Here is an intelligent, well- bred, well- educated woman, successful in her own right, who happens to be drop dead gorgeous as well – that is beside the point. Michelle Obama has never for a nanosecond been anything other than gracious, open minded and compassionate in expressing her concerns for the lesser of us. She has earned the love and respect of millions by her willingness to put herself out there, standing beside her (gorgeous) husband with her exquisite head held high, and her deep commitment to bettering the lives of people all around the world. If those foolish enough to attack and demean her fail, consequently falling into oblivion, so be it, they will have brought about their own justified demise. No one will miss them, the world will be better off without them. They will only succeed at underscoring the blatant hatred for women they seem to thrive on.

I just watched Akeelah and the Bee with my young nephew and posted that quote on his wall! 🙂

      • February 11, 2012 at 3:35 pm

That’s a great quote. Just sharing this: I talked with a woman I hadn’t spoken with for about 20 years. We were joined at the hip in our 20’s and then she divorced her husband (who was a nut) and took her children and moved to Africa. At the time, she said she didn’t want to raise her children here. Especially her young sons. Mothers of black boys know exactly what she meant. We must of talked on the phone for 3 hours. I actually found her daughter on Facebook and she contacted her mother for me. Anyway my friend said something that really moved me. I am a spiritual person who believes in a higher power. I do not belong to any organized religion. My friend is just like me. However, she said that she believes that what is going on, not only in this country. but around the world is divinely inspired. She said President Obama, the Arab spring and all the forces moving to make this a more positive world is happening because the world had moved so far from the path of caring for one another and from democracy. Her words “divinely inspired” gave me comfort. I’m sure there are a lot of people here who don’t believe in any power above man, but those do may find this a comfort.

        • 96 Pamela
          February 11, 2012 at 3:58 pm

I am thrilled she spoke it aloud. I believe it too, we are on the cusp of a changing Age. In my mind that has been clear for a long time: you know how these times are so often referred to as “The Age of Obama”? (even by pundits and self-described journalists who have little command of their own language)… I have no recollection of EVER hearing The Age of Bush, or The Age of Clinton, or The Age of Reagan. Those years are always referred to as ‘eras’ not ‘Ages’. An Age is a massive time in history where the entire worldview was affected, not always positively, but none the less is considered by it’s long lasting CHANGE on life as it was known before. Marked by Love, Hope, Oneness and responsibility to each other and to the Earth, this age will be remembered for a turn in thinking and in perception of our true purpose here. Not some made up fantasy which profits on division and setting each against the other, but in unifying us as a group of conscious Workers of Goodwill, for the peace of all. We have only just begun to turn the corner, but one thing is for sure, there is no turning back now.

Failed Alaska U.S. Senate candidate Joe Miller is eyeing Sen. Mark Begich’s seat, which will be up for contest in 2014, according to Washington, D.C., news website Politico.

In an interview with Politico while Miller was attending the Conservative Political Action Conference in D.C., Miller said that he’s ruled out a 2012 run against Rep. Don Young, Alaska’s lone congressman.

Miller did say, however, that “2014, that’s a different story.” And rather cryptically added that Begich “knows what the cards hold on that.”

Miller is just blowing smoke, and hoping to keep his name in the spotlight for a little while longer before he fades into anonymity.

We have so much on Miller it is not even funny, and if he were to run it would be the most fun we have had in Alaska politics since we ran that evil woman form Wasilla out of office.

In other words, if I might borrow a phrase from the teabagging loser, Miller “knows what the cards hold on that.”

Thank you Chips for the pictures. I wait patiently for more and the video.
Let me just say that the picture of the little girl looking up at FLOTUS with those blissful, wide eyes brought me to tears.

My God, what that means to see the The First Lady of the United States who looks like you. I know we have seen numerous picturesque of POTUS holding babies and I am not making any comparison. But this one just touched my heart in such a way that before I saw the next picture, because of the awe of expression on the child’s face. I was hoping to myself that FLOTUS would physically touch her or their eyes connect.

And, of course, it happened. I am so grateful for this woman who is the best First Lady, ever. As a young AA girl growing up in the south, this has just made my day, forever. It even keeps me in a serene and peaceful place while the repugs openly celebrate their hate and racism feast while attending their CPAC KKK meeting.
I am so disgusted with the MSM going along with this hate. I have simply lost words for their not pushing back on these ignorant, hateful people.
This little girl will have memories that I hope she will cherish forever. Not only is she special in God’s eyes, but He sent the FLOTUS to let her know. Thank you, FLOTUS for making her day as well as mine.

I have been staring at that photo all morning…. The child is so aware of herself and the connection she is sharing with Mrs. Obama. I feel sure it will be a life changing moment for her, and she will grow into a powerful, life-changing force for doing great good on this little planet. Bless her innocent lovely heart! 🙂

I also enjoy the look of happiness on the face of the woman just to the right, she seems so delighted to be right there to witness this special moment!

My hubby did some research for me because I was curious: I could not remember if when I started taking the pill in the 1970’s if there was controversy (socially, politically) regarding it (well, except I always knew the Catholic Church forbade it) … and here is a quote for you:

President Dwight Eisenhower states in a press conference that birth control “is not a proper political or government activity or function or responsibility” and adds emphatically that it is “not our business.”

I am saddened with trying to figure out WordPress and the little box thingy. It won’t let me use my user name from here, and I had to create a new one. I am reluctant to finalize it, I don’t want to become some else on TOD. I think I’ll go clean the birdbaths instead,! 😦

Here is why they want restrictions to birth control.

CPAC Panelist: Want To Change Demographics? Have A Baby

Niger Innis, spokesperson for the Congress of Racial Equality, asked the ladies of CPAC to cover their ears on Saturday so that he could talk about how demographics of a state are changed.

“The demographic changes taking place in my adopted state of Nevada did not take place on the border,” he said at a panel on immigration and border security. “It took place in the bedroom.”

It was unclear how Innis wanted those demographics to change, although the statement was made after he listed the changes in the demographics of Nevada from 2000 to 2008 — a period when the white population dropped from about 65 percent to 55 percent, the Latino population increased from about 20 percent to about 27 percent, and the Black population stayed about the same.

“As conservatives we have to be pragmatic with our policy,” he said, adding that the Republican Party should avoid alienating non-whites if it does not want to “go the way of the Whig Party.”

that is frickin’ hilarious: ladies, cover your ears while we men talk about where babies come from!

honestly, i am reeling here, just absolutely dazed and gobsmacked.

rethug males, i have some news for you! just because your womenfolk cover their eyes and grit their teeth when you climb under the covers doesn’t mean they don’t know what’s going on!

and here’s another note to any man who can’t figure out why none of the ladies want to make babies with you: listen to aretha. respect. respect our right to choose. respect our right to say no. respect our right to contraception. respect our right to make every single decision about our bodies and our lives. respect us. or go the hell away.

LONGWOOD, Fla. — Gearing up for a tough political season ahead, Michelle Obama said Saturday she’s trying to get as much done as possible before the general election campaign starts to drown out everything else.

“It’s sort of like working before vacation — only it’s not a vacation,” she said in an interview with a handful of reporters. “It’s that same notion of ‘How much time do we have? What do I have to do?’”

Thanks for the article Jovie. Man oh man, FLOTUS is the BEST. Can’t wait for her to begin fully campaigning.

p.s. Loved the pictures of her working out with Perry the Platypus from the Disney cartoon Phineas and Ferb. That cartoon is the best!

Need a little pick-me-up? Media Matters comes through:

    Fox Business Network

“FBN’s primetime ratings have been anemic, with the channel averaging only 54,000 total viewers each night, which places it in “the bottom tier of all cable channels rated by Nielsen.”

“…”by and large, reporters at the [Wall Street] Journal do not like being associated in the minds of news sources or news subjects with Fox News.”

“The fact that Lou Dobbs (whose birtherism hastened his exit from CNN) is considered less polarizing than Fox Business Network’s current slate of primetime hosts is as sure a sign as any that the network had gone completely off the rails.”

And Judge Napolitano’s show gets dropped.

Mrs. Obama is class personified. She is also looking slimmer and her hands are so expressive and beautiful.

Also, CNN best political team will be all over the Maine caucuses, starting at 6.
