for our friends here…..

In case you missed BWD’s comment last night, she was involved in a car crash a few days ago – it was a horrible experience that has left her badly shaken. I know BWD loves this video, so this is for her – look after yourself, get strong soon friend.

Love, too, to QuietObserver whose Dad is battling ill-health, as are Fred and HZ. And Sam UK, this is a tough time for you too, we’re thinking of you.

I just e-mailed my Congrssman, Rob Andrews, and told him that he and all democratic congressmen should stand together and vote no on this contraceptive rule that the republicans are pushing. I mentioned that this is a private matter between a patient and doctor, and no one is forcing birth control on anyone, only those who want it.

At Fort Carson, Colo., the Army partnered with a local energy provider to build a photovoltaic solar array on top of a closed landfill. The White Sands Missile Range project in New Mexico will provide the Army with 4.44-megawatts of installed photovoltaic capacity, saving 10 million kilowatt hours of electricity and $930,000 annually. When finished, White Sands will be the largest renewable energy project in the Army.

My thoughts and prayers go out to all the people mentioned who have been suffering in various ways. One thing I love about this blog so much is the care and concern evidenced by people we don’t even know personally. That’s one thing that makes this spot different from others. I well remember how kind and thoughtful people were when I told of my husband’s heart attack and stent surgery in December. It’s amazing how people care across the cyberspace. And by the way, he is doing great! I am so thankful for modern medicine.
Wishing all recovery for those who need it so much.

Apologies.. I log on here using Twitter and I don’t receive any updates to anything I comment on – so if I don’t check the posts on here regularly, I tend to miss out on people adding to my comments 😐 but I lifted this from another post I just commented on.. to answer your question about “Happy Born Day” 🙂

hi ison… sorry for the late reply… the “Happy Born Day” has been something that has stuck with me since I was a teen, my father has English as his second language (although he immigrated and lived in NZ for over 30 years, his English is not THAT strong, even for someone who is mixed German/Danish/Samoan lol)…… and instead of him saying “Happy Birth Day”… he would say “Happy Born Day”……… and so no matter whose birthday it is….. I’ve always just held onto that tradition because it is “odd and peculiar” to see/hear it.. but the meaning is the same

I just read the article. The hypocrisy of Romney knows no bounds. He accuses people of what he’s doing or has done in the past. It’s so unbelievable. I have no pity for Gingrich but he was right when he asked journalists this question: “How do you debate someone who lies all the time.” 99.9% of what comes out of Romney’s mouth is lies, lies, lies, and more lies. Heck he even lied that his first name isn’t Willard.

I’ve sent the article to PBO’s surrogates from OFA, the WH, and the DNC @stefcutter, @davidaxelrod, @PressSec, @WoodhouseB @PatrickGaspard @BenLaBolt @DWStweets @IsraelDCCC @Thedemocrats @MayorRTRybak @Pfeiffer44 @billburton716 @Messina2012 @GovernorOMalley so they can have this information handy when they speak to the hack job that is the press. This is 2012. No time for jokes. Romney must be called out on every falsehood and hypocritical action.

Washington D.C. – This week, Energy Secretary Steven Chu, Deputy Secretary Daniel Poneman and other senior Energy Department officials will participate in events across the country to highlight America’s investments in cutting-edge energy innovations that are laying the building blocks for an American economy built to last.  The visits nationwide will highlight American-made energy resources like natural gas and biofuels, and focus on the important role American scientists, engineers and entrepreneurs are helping to ensure the U.S. leads in the global clean energy economy.

On Thursday, February 9, Secretary Chu will tour the Energy Department’s National Energy Technology Laboratory’s (NETL’s) facilities outside of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where he will tour a range of research and development facilities.  The tour will focus on science and technology that is now being developed at NETL to extract natural gas more safely and efficiently, and will highlight the initial innovations supported by the national laboratory that have helped to spur the expansion of shale gas development in Pennsylvania and around the country. After the open press tour, the Secretary will join with NETL Director Anthony Cugini and Pittsburgh Mayor Luke Ravenstahl to deliver remarks and take questions from reporters.

Sorry about the accident, BWD, and hope everyone is physically OK. Mentally may take a bit longer. I was almost in an accident last Friday. Came around a blind bend in the road and there was a giant tractor smack in the middle of the road. Slammed on the brakes and, of course, that is where the ice was, so started sliding right into the tractor. The only reason I didn’t crash was that I turned the car at the last away from the tractor putting myself in more danger as my nose ended up about a foot from that huge wheel. We never touched each other tho’. The tractor driver gave me a cheer, and I can’t tell you what I said under my breath about him.

I JUST UNSUBSCRIBED TO RUSS FEINGOLD’S PROGRESSIVES UNITED

    ========================================

Actually, I thought I had unsubscribed a long time ago, but I guess not. Anyway, I just received an email from Russ Feingold about how disappointed he is about President Obama and the super pacs. I didn’t read the entire email. But what I did do before unsubscribing was reply to the email with a copy of the brilliant post from The Peoples View by Deaniac83. I included the link. I hope Russ reads it. I would love it if he got a lot of replies to his email with this post. I wish no further communications from Mr. Feingold. Thank you very much!

Dear Russ Feingold, let me tell you about dancing with the devil

    =========

If you want to see the the dancing devil looking you in the eyes, Mr. Feingold, you need look no further than the Republican governor of your own state, Scott Walker and those of others who submitted to Republican rule after the 2010 elections. Workers’ rights have been attacked, Republican legislatures and governors have claimed the right to dismiss elected local governments and institute dictatorial rule, right wing activists have tried to force women to carry the children of their rapists, and state governments have gone after their own citizens’ right to vote at their own convenience.

And here’s the thing about how that dancing devil got here and got so far. Part of the problem, frankly, Sen. Feingold, were people like you. People like you who demanded ponies and perfections from President Obama’s sweeping reforms Wall Street for example. It was you, Sen. Feingold, who was willing to contribute to Americans’ feelings that the government can’t do anything right (the Republican argument) by filibustering the most significant re-regulation of the financial sector since 1930s. It was you who was willing to use the “not good enough” excuse to pick up applause lines at pretend-Left spheres rather than doing the hard work of governing and helping this president dig us out of the mess he’d been handed.
    .
    .
The President was the only person with enough courage to call out the Supreme Court on their Citizens United decision while the justices sat in the audience.

You, Sen. Feingold, voted to confirm Chief Justice Roberts, who was one of the 5 Supreme Court votes to bring about Citizens United.

  45. 92 QuietObserver
    February 8, 2012 at 4:38 pm

    Thank you. 🙂

You know, I’ve spent a lot of time in my life being worried about time. And with the current issues I’ve been grappling with, not to mention the big 3-0 just around the corner, I’ve been struggling with the idea of being “late” or even “too late” for…whatever. But I’ve also been doing more meditation, and today as I was meditating, I got a clear message: do not fear time. I don’t know exactly what that means, but it made total sense to me in that moment. The other strong feeling I got was to live, move, and act in the present instead of just daydreaming about what *could* happen or sitting back and waiting for the future to happen *to* me. Because from what I’ve lived and learned, if we develop a set-in-stone idea of how the future is ‘supposed to’ unfold, when the time comes and that idea does not become reality, we then feel like we’ve either failed or been betrayed by time. One of the reasons that I admire the Obamas, even outside of politics, is because they live and work in a way that I strive to live and work; meaning that they appreciate every step of their journey, knowing that they are laying the foundation for the future, but also keeping highest regard for the present, filling it with as much goodness as possible.

Sorry if I sound like I’m rambling 😆

“I’ve been struggling with the idea of being “late” or even “too late” for…whatever.”

I can totally relate to this.

    • February 8, 2012 at 4:50 pm

No, QO, it’s good advice and very hard to live by and remember. Living in the moment is a great challenge for many of us. I’m still working on it and I’m more than twice your age.

    • 95 Pamela
      February 8, 2012 at 5:27 pm

No it does not sound like rambling QO, it is wonderful to hear about your inner life, and the positive effects of your meditations. Learn to listen to that voice, it is your higher mind and will never steer you wrong. Keep practicing, be persistent, share your love and joy! At the tender age of 30 (almost) your future will be one of great contribution to this earth if your level of consciousness reaches far. “Time” does not exist, except as we have created it to bring ‘order’ to thT which is vast beyond the grasp of our developing minds. With a leader of PBO’s caliber, we may speed up the process! Bless you all for your open-hearted and warm regard for each of us. We’re greater together!

    • 97 JoJothecat
      February 8, 2012 at 5:45 pm

Actually QO, that was a wonderfully thought out and written observance of how you and many of us oldsters have gone through at your age. Coming up on the Big “3-0” is a good time to reflect on what direction you wish your life to go and focus on changing habits that have not served you well. I think this is great time for the 20 and 30 somethings to have one of the best presidents in a very long time who is doing everything he can to make a brighter future for all of us. It sounds like you have a good attitute so keep an open mind and watch for opportunities that you have been hoping for because they are just around the corner…trust me.

Pro-Choice GOP Warns Party That Contraception Fight Will Be A Disaster

Pro-choice Republicans are begging their party to drop this fight over contraception before it’s too late. Turning to a discussion about access to birth control will be nothing short of a disaster, they say.

The new and unexpected war over contraception may not end up as only a battle between the White House and the Republican party. It could end up as a fight between the GOP and itself. As we saw during the 2011’s push to defund Planned Parenthood — when some Republican Senators rebuked their colleagues in the House for attacking the organization — Republicans on Capitol Hill do not speak with one voice on matters of women’s health. Now, as Speaker John Boehner seemingly prepares to turn the House GOP’s attention to contraception, pro-choice Republicans are warning that the GOP may become the next Komen For The Cure.

“I think this week’s outrage over the Komen decision should be a warning to the Republican party about how quickly there was a mass outrage over further and further attacks on general women’s health,” Kellie Ferguson, executive director of Republican Majority for choice, told me Wednesday. “You could see the same backlash on attacks on contraception.”

    http://2012.talkingpointsmemo.com/2012/02/pro-choice-gop-warns-party-that-contraception-fight-will-be-a-disaster.php

    • February 8, 2012 at 4:56 pm

At this point, 57, it’s like morons are directing the GOP political strategy. Women make up the majority of voters. Women decided many decades ago that they wanted and needed to control the number of children they bear. The baby boomers grew up on contraceptives and do did their children and grandchildren. Access to contraceptives is universally accepted and expected. Why the GOP thinks is smart to resurrect this topic is beyond understanding. I believe they are no conspiring to throw support to President Obama.

      • February 8, 2012 at 5:41 pm

The women’s organizations are busying themselves with sending petitions to the White House to “tell” President Obama to “stand firm”. He’s already standing firm – and in fact, if he hadn’t decided on this course of action, they probably wouldn’t even have noticed that contraception was excluded from coverage. Now that someone has pointed out that he’s made this decision, they are all working hard to “tell” him something.

I wish they would take that energy and “tell” the GOP to keep their grubby hands off women’s health. The GOP have been waging a war on women since they won in 2010, and the women’s organizations have mostly been silent. Women should be raging at this point, and marching in the streets, depriving their husbands of any nookie, and demanding that our hard-fought rights be left alone. Instead, they’re filing petitions for the President, to tell him to stand firm. We already know where President Obama stands on this. Where do the women’s organizations stand?

        • February 8, 2012 at 11:27 pm

          A very good point, Theo!
It is interesting to me that people always try to ‘tell’ the President, but off the top of my head I can’t recall them telling the GOP, even though it is well known the GOP are always the ones stirring the fire, both by what they don’t do as much as what they do.

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission is set to approve the construction of two new reactors at Georgia’s Vogtle plant, seen here. It would be the first new construction license for a reactor granted in over 30 years.
NEW YORK (CNNMoney) — The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission is expected to approve licenses to build to two new nuclear reactors Thursday, the first approvals in over 30 years.
The reactors are being built in Georgia by a consortium of utilities led by Southern Co. (SO, Fortune 500) They will be sited at the Vogtle nuclear power plant complex, about 170 miles east of Atlanta. The plant already houses two older reactors.

Regret the news of BWD’s accident and our other TODers who are facing serious issues. Keeping you in my thoughts.

As noted before, the grand irony of the Koch/Rove superpac spending is that it’s going to drive down unemployment during the Summer and Fall and that’s now going to be amplified by all those contributing to the President’s pacs. Gotta love it.

It’s one way to get those folk to pay more taxes and contribute to a stimulus plan that Congress can’t do anything to stop 🙂

    #AmericaTHISisNOTaTEST

    • February 8, 2012 at 5:45 pm

Forgive me if this sounds ignorant. Why will it drive down unemplyment in the Summer and Fall Bob? I trust your brillance; I just want to know why.

      • February 8, 2012 at 6:34 pm

Someone talked about this the other day (it was probably Bob), saying that when there are more paid staffers available for the campaign, it drops the unemployment rate. Similar to what happened during the 2008 campaign and the 2010 Census. So, having more money from the SuperPACs, means they can employ more people, and ultimately, positively affect the employment/unemployment rates. (But, I stand to be corrected)!

        • 112 Bobfr (aka Our4thEstate)
          February 8, 2012 at 6:43 pm

          Great explanation, theo.

We could see 2+ billion infused into the economy from now until Election Day and a considerable amount of the funds will flow to paid campaign workers, to all kinds of parties, performances, etc., all of which mean demand in communities throughout the Nation for all kinds of products and services.

The irony that these dudes who refuse to pay their fair share of taxes are going to be an engine of, albeit, temporary job growth – and capital flowing into all kinds of local businesses (from broadcasters to restaurants to ….) is luscious irony.

And, I think big, big money folk are likely to pour even more into President Obama’s pacs than will be the case for the GOP candidates. In any event, the derivative value to the economy will be significant and the timing couldn’t be better for President Obama and Dems all the way down ticket.

Many of us owe a big debt of gratitude to BWD for getting us through the emotionally depressing months after 2010. The Only Adult in the Room provided a safe haven where we could go and feel hope again. I saw people go from depressed to angry to determined to inspired as BWD provided image after image of our great president. Now she’s hurting and I would like to give her the biggest bouquet of love and thanks possible. Get well, be strong and know how much your work is appreciated and your voice needed, BWD. Chips has kept us together with her love, humor, good sense and big heart. Today’s tribute to BWD is an example of that heart. Thank you, Chips..

I went outside to speak kind words to the gardeners at my condo who have been at the mercy of other workers who have not been doing their jobs decently and in order ,and thus making it harder for my other beautiful spirited and hardworking gardeners. So I had to speak up and out for what was right. That is who I am and always want to be in my life. Then I returned to my computer, and this is what I came back to from our most beautiful and thoughtful Chips. Wow!!!!

You all are such a beautiful and caring family. This is the love and care that POB speaks of when he speaks about being our brother’s keeper and sister’s keeper.

Thanks for the beautiful ,sweet, kind, caring, and loving spirits here within this beautiful TOD Family which Chipsticks created. It always starts with a great and compassionate leader, you are that Chips. This is one of the most beautiful qualities that makes this place such a sweet haven.

I love everyone here so very much. We will be okay. We are tough and we will stand with and for each other no matter what come our way. Be strong, loving, and always carry a balm of healing gems is in your hearts. (((((((((Hugs to you Chips and my TOD Family.))))))))) Thank you.

On January 31st, the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) launched a new, online dashboard that provides increased transparency into a vital component of NextGen’s modernization of our Nation’s air transportation system infrastructure.
Referred to as Performance Based Navigation (PBN), using highly efficient flight routes takes advantage of GPS satellites and advanced equipment that is already installed on most commercial airliners.  The new dashboard on the NextGen website features PBN data accompanied by video depictions and an interactive map highlighting the benefits of using PBN and new flight paths around the country.

The House just voted to give the President line item veto power 254-173. Are they insane ? That was ruled Unconstitutional back in 1998

Failed DCCC chair Chris Van Hollan co-sponsered this with Paul Ryan.

Luckily it won’t pass the Senate.

    • February 8, 2012 at 6:14 pm

      Now a days, who knows?

    • February 8, 2012 at 6:39 pm

They brought this up during the Boston Massacre (the GOP retreat where they were handed their butts by President Obama). Paul Ryan said he was going to try and give the President line-item veto.

What they’re really trying to do is give their future GOP fantasy President line item veto, so that Democrats can never pass anything again, once their GOP president is in place. If by some chance this gets through the Senate, it will be interesting to see what President Obama does. At the time, he said he’d love line item veto, but I somehow doubt he would sign it, simply because it bypasses the will of an entire branch of the Government. Who knows?

That bill allows for 30,000 drones to fly over our houses and spy on us.

      • February 8, 2012 at 6:49 pm

I don’t think it’s quite that dire. The Supreme Court just deemed that attaching GPS coordinates on the car of a suspected drug kingpin violated his rights, so I somehow think that there will be adequate protection from drones actually spying on people through their rooftops. I heard someone on the radio (NPR) yesterday talking about the use of drones, and it was actually quite interesting all the different uses, from farming, to traffic control. One thing he did say was that there’s a huge cost for the synchronizing infrastructure that allows drones to fly without risking collisions with other planes in the air, and that cost (I think he said $500M) far exceeds the cost of the actual drone equipment ($50K), so that’s prohibitive. He didn’t think there would be massive drone use anytime soon, but it really did sound promising.

Plus, when the Supreme Court ruled against the GPS thing, they mentioned that it’s time for the law to catch up with changes in technology. So, I think there’s a lot more progress to go before we have to fear being spied on from above.

        A couple of interesting links:
Story from late last year after complaints from Glen Greenwald to NPR about the privacy concerns:

OLYMPIA, Wash. — Washington state lawmakers voted to approve gay marriage Wednesday, setting the stage for the state to become the seventh in the nation to allow same-sex couples to wed.

The action comes a day after a federal appeals court declared California’s ban on gay marriage unconstitutional, saying it was a violation of the civil rights of gay and lesbian couples.

The Washington House passed the bill on a 55-43 vote. The state Senate approved the measure last week. And Democratic Gov. Chris Gregoire is expected to sign the measure into law next week.

Dear BWD I’m so glad to hear that you were able to survive that crash. It will take a while but I know you will be back to your usual self before long. As women we spend all our time caring for others and yet are most reluctant to speak up when we need help. I’m sure I speak for those around you when I say please don’t be afraid to ask for help in any form. An errand, a meal, a smile, a rub, a shoulder, an ear…

Q/Observer It’s always hard to make the transition to caring for our parents who cared for us all their lives. Perhaps it’s the grand design of the circle of life? I truly hope you find this battle more rewarding than challenging. Make good memories of these times. Yes, good memories are lurking beneath the surface. Your job is to find and share them with your dad & family.

To Fred and others here who are caring for their parents, remember when things get rough, tension high & fear or anger slithers into the crevices of your heart or mind, just breath in & breath out. It will get better!

HZ you have been an inspiration to many on this board, including myself. We hold you & your words in our hearts. I believe better days are ahead.

Sam UK the world always seems upside down when our children pass before us. There are no words that can express my sorrow for your loss. May your child live forever in your heart and may you one day have peace.

Joyce Canucks I truly hope things work out for you and you get to visit your grandmother.

May a warm circle of light surround you all, give you strength and carry you through the darkness. Aho!

I too was a TOAITR reader before I came here. Both sites have meant the world to me. Thanks BWD, and my prayers are for you to rest and recover soon.

Chips your heart is so pure and full of love to produce this uplifting site where we are free to speak our mind. And BWD you are the grace that we needed when times were tough. I always supported you under a different name at the big O and followed you to the Adult site and then onward to our Daily TOD Diary. We are all putting our energy together whether it is through prayer, spirit, light, energy and love, Sam, Fred, OG, Carolyn Joyce and Quiet Observer and sweet HZ we are united in forming a most creative environment to bless each around us. A special word to those who are here and may be dealing with troubles silently. We are here with you and all of us in the spirit of healing. May everyone be blessed who reads these posts and Chips your part of this creation. Let’s all unite together for the good, peace of mind, healing of physical ailments and mental concerns. BWD, I’ve had my share of panic through the earlier years and have been able to survive in spite of all that troubled me. Lean on us and let us share in your burden. When those feelings attempt to play with your mind take a deep breath and just say, “the TOD’ers are sharing my load. I do not walk alone” As my dad would say “Theres a light behind every cloud.” or “Keep your head toward the sunlight and you’ll never see a shadow.” or just lets be that rubbertree plant. Blessings all.
