The Week

LA Times: Some investments listed in Mitt and Ann Romney’s 2010 tax returns – including a now-closed Swiss bank account and other funds located overseas – were not explicitly disclosed in the personal financial statement the GOP presidential hopeful filed in August as part of his White House bid.

The Romney campaign described the discrepancies as “trivial” but acknowledged Thursday afternoon that they are undergoing an internal review of how the investments were reported and will make “some minor technical amendments” to Romney’s financial disclosure that will not alter the overall picture of his finances.

Yay me! Chips your video is over 4 million hits. I know this because I contributed a good portion of those hits over the last two days because I’ve been so angry about that Brewer witch, I could spit nails. I called her office and almost lost it with her secretary. I had actually decided I was going to take the advice of a commenter on this blog and ignore her but when she decided to lie about feeling threatened by PBO I had to call.

That lie just reminded me of all the black men throughout history who were falsely accused, jailed or lynched based on a lie. History is littered with these tragic stories, most of which happened before I was even born and I am just devastated that our PBO has to endure this king of treatment in 2012.

One more thing. I am so tired of hearing from blacks, Latinos, etc about their own high unemployment when it’s high all over. We know about the disproportional lack, but why folks don’t think PBO knows all this is beyond me. If anyone is not satisfied with him and his clear efforts, vote for one of the turds. See how far it gets you in the long run. By the way, I am black, so don’t even go there with me, lurkers. This man works his rear off for us everyday, and people should know by now the amount of obstruction he gets, not to mention the disrespect as a black man. The job situation is not only the domain of PBO. There are mayors, council people, state senators, representatives, governors who should be carrying this load. So tired. I will do whatever I can to get PBO re-elected, with always the mindfulness that I must stay calm. But that lady at Univision has me livid with her talking points. I’ve just been hearing so much idiocy regarding PBO this week, so I don’t have the patience to handle it today. Now I’ll go watch the videos to keep me mellowed, for now anyway.

Racism Chasing? Republican Mark Oxner’s Campaign Ad Features a “Slave Ship” the USS Obamaboat

I will let you all arbitrate the semiotics of this ad.

At least Mark Oxner’s people had the good sense to make sure that the enslaved children on Obama’s “ship of state” (with its upside down U.S. flag and crossed out “United States Constitution”) were a diverse group. We can count that as a small measure of progress in the post-racial age.

In a political moment where campaign commercials have featured Islamic terrorists, demon sheep, and gangster rappers who penetrate white women with their guns, this ad is par for the course.

Is race an element here? I am not sure. This anti-Obama campaign commercial could be one more example of the “benign” myopia that is common to the white racial frame (“how could anyone be offended by a boat, an allusion to slavery, and a black captain whipping his crew? How shocking!). Alternatively, the race work done here could more sinister, as any reference to “white slavery” has historically done potent political work from the Revolutionary War to the present (with the Tea Party faithful using that very same phrase to oppose the Obama administration and play on white racial resentment and anxiety).

Romney failed to disclose income from Swiss bank

    By KASIE HUNT

    The Associated Press

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Mitt and Ann Romney failed to list an unknown amount of investment income from a variety of sources, including a Swiss bank account, on financial disclosure forms filed last year, the presidential hopeful’s campaign announced Thursday as it worked to correct the omissions.

Also missing is income from at least 20 different investment funds in the Romneys’ blind trusts that are either not listed on his disclosure or contradict information listed on the former Massachusetts governor’s 2010 tax return. At least one of the 20 is an investment fund held by Ann Romney carries an “offshore” label. It’s part of a fund operated by Bain Capital, the private equity firm Romney ran for 15 years.

A campaign spokeswoman offered no explanation for the omission. She said Thursday the adjustments would be “trivial” and would not alter the overall picture of the Romney’s finances. The former Massachusetts governor has estimated his wealth at as much as $250 million.

The Swiss account was held in Ann Romney’s blind trust. The tax returns show the Romneys made $1,783 in interest income from that account in 2010.Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich also failed to report income from his 2010 tax return on his financial disclosure. Gingrich will amend his disclosure to show $252,500 in salary from one of his businesses, spokesman R.C. Hammond said Thursday.
    …………………………

Romney’s missing income, first reported by the Los Angeles Times, could become a campaign issue as Gingrich looks to criticize Romney ahead of Florida’s Jan. 31 primary.

Just after Newt made the fuss if the audience was not allowed their freedom of speech rights to react he wasn’t debating too! I actually like the debates controlling audience responses because you can listen to what they say without being influenced by who got more supporters to pack the premises. Audience reaction influences watchers decisions, the old bandwagon effect.

I predicted on the last thread that Newt would not go after Romney. Romney is the GOP establishment’s choice of candidate, and Newt Gingrich is just a distraction to Mitt Romney’s flagrant flaws. Gingrich is very much a GOP establishment guy himself and he’s not going burn his GOP bridges when he wants nothing more than to see President Obama lose to anyone be it him or Romney. I think people should stop expecting Gingrich to go after Romney. We the people need to go after Romney by going to the voting booth in November and electing President Obama by a landslide.

Ron Paul has been a bloody distraction and a useless waste of time this entire primary campaign season. He is there to take focus off Romney and siphon votes from other potential threats to Romney. That’s why certain persons on MSNBC seem to love him so much. Their true candidate is Mitt Romney, but they love Paul for the fact that he deflects negative attention and protects Romney’s voting’s base.

  89. January 26, 2012 at 9:23 pm

Newt obviously didn’t realize the nature of the audience he was getting tonight. The debate was co-sponsored by the state GOP, which means this is an establishment crowd. So Newt’s usual read meat (like the liberal media jihad) just ain’t flying tonight and Newt wasn’t prepared.

Not to take anything away from Romney who seems better prepared for this debte, but I’m beginning to think that this audience is stacked with establishment voters. So even if Newt wins on substance, Romney wins on style cause the audience is behind him.

  90. January 26, 2012 at 9:24 pm

Two months ago, it appeared Michigan might well be prime real estate for Mitt Romney as he sought the Republican nomination for president.

In a Detroit Free Press/WXYZ-TV (Channel 7) poll then, native Michigander Romney led the Democratic president, Barack Obama, 46%-41%, in a head-to-head matchup.

But as Romney’s path to the nomination has gotten cloudy, his lead in the state over the Democratic incumbent also has evaporated. In a new Michigan poll, Obama has taken the head-to-head lead, 48%-40%.

In the interview with Newt’s 2nd wife she actually said that Newt told her Callista was going to help him become President. That little nugget was overlooked because everyone focused on the ex-wife’s claim that Newt wanted her to agree to an open marriage. I found that interesting that Newt really believed he could become president all those years ago and it made me think of his current candidacy as more than just a vanity run, which is what I always thought it was.

Well, it’s true that Hispanics are disappointed in the President for not being able to get any of their agenda passed. It’s not really his fault, but the disappointment is there. THere’s also the deportation issue that many Hisapnics don’t seem to get. Romney is going to try to exploit that but he’s gone so far ot the right that it’ll just look like pandering. Polls show that PBO has 67% of that vote so far. He’ll be okay AS LONG AS WE TURN OUT!

Halo, 67% of Hispanics voted for PBO in 2008. So how do you reconcile his current support of 67% with Hispanics being “Disappointed?”

Sorry, I don’t buy it. The numbers simply don’t add up. I think we need to stop going along with MSM memes of “disappointment” without first getting the facts straight.

        • 315 halo
          January 26, 2012 at 10:50 pm

Because people can still be disappointed while still supporting you.

Hopefruit, “disappointment” among independent voters and yes Hispanic voters is a REAL issue. Hispanic voters know where PBO’s heart is and will support him again, but let’s be fair, PBO hasn’t exactly taken up the mantle of immigartion reform. He’s had alot of things on his plate and it wasn’t a priority for him. It would bef oolisht o pretend that it’s not there.

      • January 27, 2012 at 3:08 am

So, they won’t give the President credit for putting the first “Wise Latina” on the Supreme Court? His very first Supreme Court nomination? That’s maddening.

Everything that is within his sole control – foreign policy and military activities, surrounding himself with smart people, using his Executive power, nominating Supreme Court Justices – he’s done, and he’s kept his promises. Congress has prevented the rest.

    • 317 hopefruit2
      January 26, 2012 at 10:35 pm

The media always tries to make it seem more positive than it really is for the GOP while making things seem worse than they are for PBO. Fortunately, I believe that voters have learned to tune out the media – the fact that this little blog has grown 100% in the last year – because of folks who are tired of the false MSM spin and negative anti-Obama memes. More and more people are taking these punDIOTS’ “analyses” with half a grain of salt.

And that’s exactly why President OBama is going to wipe the floor with him. Romney is being graded on a terrible curve – based on the horrible performance of his GOP counterparts. He also has the GOP establishment at his side to bully the others into laying off him during the debates.

None of that will be the case during the general election. And I can tell that PBO WANTS it to be Romney and is more than ready.
