Reggie’s replacement per say is a guy who’s been with the Obama team pre-White House. He’s the really tall guy. Marvin Nicholson.

Yeah, I know who he is, but I have yet to see him with any regularity on the President’s jaunts. I guess I’m expecting to see another big, tall guy juggling bags, pens, mints, and memorabilia by PBO’s side like Reggie used to do. LOL.

Linda, yes he does. Like his racists B.S. I see the big bad Newt haven’t taken Rev. Al up on his challenge to meet Newt any where. You know the Newt who has his stupid supporters thinking that President Obama will be afraid to debate Newt.

Can’t even read that, but hope he did get a grilling.

It was so annoying during the last debate when Gingrich said he enjoys support among the Hispanic community – yeah, Newt, as long as they don’t speak Spanish, right?

      Grrrr.

God, why are they grilling him? I hated when they grilled Perry, cuz I would’ve loved to see him up against O. Smart libs should be promoting Newt. This nutjob has no chance against O so why beat up on him and strengthen Mitty? I don’t get it. Another reason to promote him is the down ticket. We’re virtually looking at Pelosi as speaker with that asshole on the ticket. So, please quit beating up on Newty.

I am always late to the party and ‘out of step’ but I really can dance! Reposting my comment from the last thread now….

Hola TOD! I watched PBO’s speech which was stellar, imo but could not participate in the blog last night due to an early family commitment this AM. I didn’t bother with any Repugnants or the pundits ignorant blather. I have been trying to catch up and read posts here. I thought the First Lady looked fab and for those who thought she might have looked a little “sad or anxious” Gabby Gifford’s mother was sitting back in that third row. Probably, no one else noticed but I would just bet that she and Michelle had a “Mom Moment” before the official SOTU. Moms do get a sad when they watch the bravery of their children. It took courage and selflessness for our Gabby to step down right now.

Small shout out to HZ…Thank you for the prayers and good thoughts for my daughter. She is home and resting now. Docs are pleased.

I think Newt is an awesomely dangerous con man and he is exploiting this to please the evangelicals:

Wow, talk about dog whistles! “Trying to take God out of public life!” “Media doesn’t believe in God!” All the right words. I do not judge whether a person is a Christian or not, but the Bible says ‘by their fruits you will know them.” I think this means that we can’t know their relationship to God, but their actions (fruits) tell us something about how me must deal with them in the natural. Gingrich’s fruits do not show that I can trust him. His answer reminded me so much of my ex-husband who had a many years long affair with a woman who lived several states away. They would meet at engineering conferences and such. When I found out and confronted him he said, “But she’s a really good person! Very religious! Her aunt is a nun!” Gingrich: “I am a Christian despite my complete lack of moral or ethical behavior!”

WASHINGTON — The State Department has announced that Yemen’s embattled president, Ali Abdullah Saleh, will have diplomatic immunity while he visits the United States this week for medical treatment.

The immunity is being granted to Saleh as it would to any foreign head of state, the State Department said in a statement, and will last “until a new Yemeni president is sworn in following elections on February 21.” Saleh is due to arrive in the country any day to seek treatment at a New York hospital for injuries suffered during a June attack on his presidential compound by anti-regime forces.

    How Citizens United Created Newt

    By Jonathan Chait

    ==========================

The Republican elite is justifiably terrified at the prospect of Newt Gingrich capturing the nomination. Gingrich, as I’ve argued, is riding the wave of revulsion and contempt for President Obama that this same Establishment has stoked for three years. But his campaign is also blowback to the party Establishment in another, more mechanical way. His campaign is surviving entirely as a result of the Citizens United ruling, decried by liberals and celebrated by conservatives, which allows unlimited campaign expenditures, as long as they’re not coordinated with campaigns.

I love the comments. One person demanded a “thank you”, then proceeded to insult the European Allies as a whole (and he put that in quotes). Several marines and other Americans responded and told him he didn’t know what he was talking about, fed him some history and other facts, and thanked Denmark for their role over the years as a very effective friend in prior years. It was a total smackdown. And to be honest, I couldn’t figure out who was Democrat or Republican – but I suspect the original poster was a libertarian.

  20. January 25, 2012 at 3:43 pm

GalluP is a trip. It says that a poll taken says that the country is divided on economic fairness and that 62% says that the system is already fair.

    What utter bullshit!

  21. January 25, 2012 at 3:44 pm

found this over in the comments at Washington MOnthly:

    zeitgeist on January 25, 2012 12:55 PM:

someone (a 527 – it couldn’t be the official Obama campaign or DNC) needs to do a commercial that starts with grainy video of Romney doing the “Obama wants to turn the United States into Europe!” line.

then do a screeching stop. And say “Apparently Mitt Romney didn’t think there was anything wrong with Europe when he was investing $3 million in Swiss accounts [show map of location of Switzerland] instead of investing it in the United States. But Mitt Romney says we can’t expect the “job creators” to pay more taxes — why not, if they are creating jobs in Switzerland, not helping Americans with good jobs here? Tell Mitt Romney to do the patriotic thing and put his money where his mouth is — here in America.”

He’d scream about being called unpatriotic, but I guarantee you his numbers would drop (even farther than they already have.)

    I love it!!!

    make that ad!!!

The White House detailed a series of new tax breaks Wednesday, including $5 billion in clean-energy manufacturing tax credits.

The clean-energy tax credits are part of a broader manufacturing tax break plan that President Obama outlined in his State of the Union address Tuesday night.

Hey Chips and everybody! Sorry I haven’t posted lately but I have been reading Chips’ wonderful coverage of our great president. Was busy yesterday with my SOTU watch party. We had 34 ppl whooping and hollering at PBO’s every word last night. It was so fantastic.

Today, my governor Mitch Daniels is the laughing stock with that awful, lying rebuttal to the Pres’ SOTU. What an embarrassment. Ugh. The unions may disrupt our super bowl festivities with demonstrations against right to work. I’m loving it. Couldn’t happen to a nicer gov.

Then we find out our badass president had given the order to take out more thugs while working on this major speech. I am just in awe of this magnificent president.

What really got me was PBO’s hugging Gabby and then Debbie Wasserman Schultz tears when she read Gabby’s letter on the house floor today. I cry just thinking about it.

Sparks flew Wednesday at a House hearing investigating battery fires associated with the Chevrolet Volt electric car.

Republicans hamered David Strickland, the head of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), over his agency’s handling of the battery fires.

But Strickland defended the Volt, insisting the electric car produced by General Motors, the beneficiary of a 2009 government bailout, was perfectly safe.

I would just argue if there was a genuine, legitimate uprising we would of course be on the side of the people. And we should be prepared to be on the side of the people. But in that sense, I don’t see why Cuba should be sacrosanct, and we should say, don’t do anything to hurt…we’re very prepared to back people in Libya, we may end backing people in Syria, but now Cuba, hands off Cuba, that’s baloney. The people of Cuba deserve freedom.”

I couldn’t get the link to work (my comp is funky) so I only read the short excerpt but Gingrich makes an interesting point. If there was an uprising in Cuba similar to Egypt, Libya, Syria what would be the course of action. I would wager that bombing them would be at the very bottom of the list but I am curious as to what Obama would do. I know JFK signed a peace treaty that we would never invade Cuba ever again.

And, yeah, I noticed all those over 40 year old white people reaching out to shake his hand! What is Tweety’s problem!!! Also, loved seeing FLOTUS and Rachael Ray at the school. And why, did NBC last week give credit to Wm. Clinton for improving school lunches, and not mention our FLOTUS??? She is working every day to improve out children’s health!

I noticed that as well in that NBC report. Not one mention of her initiatives. I thought that there should at least have been a line like, ‘It is similar to the First Lady’s.. or along with The First lady….but there was no mention at all; as if Clijnton was the only one doing this and what a great new thing this is. Why is the media so afraid to give the Obamas their due credit? The good news is that her more personal and totally in approach shows many how sincere she is and how important these initiatives are. People will remember.

Latino vote could save Mitt Romney in Florida primary

“In the general election, President Obama remains strong among Latino voters, whom he won four years ago by a 2 to 1 margin. Nationally, Mr. Obama beats Romney among Latinos 67 percent to 25 percent. He beats Gingrich 70 percent to 22 percent among Latinos.

But in Florida, the hypothetical general-election matchups are closer. Obama beats Romney 50 percent to 40 percent among Florida Latinos, and beats Gingrich 52 to 38.”

    http://www.csmonitor.com/USA/Elections/President/2012/0125/Latino-vote-could-save-Mitt-Romney-in-Florida-primary

What an optomistic headline completely divorced from the facts on the ground. Even if Romney manages to eke out a primary win in Florida, which looks in jeopardy as his poll numbers are in freefall, he will be toast in November. I am enjoying this.

  43. January 25, 2012 at 5:19 pm

    Harry Reid is all in!

Senate Democrats are preparing an aggressive legislative agenda to complement the vision President Obama outlined in his State of the Union Address. The goal is to test the idea that the public supports an agenda of aggressive federal action on behalf of the middle class, and that Republicans are locked in a pattern of reactionary opposition, even to popular policies.

The push is premised on the notion that the country has turned the corner on the fights over deficits and the size of government, and that keeping issues of equity and opportunity for the middle class at the center of the national debate will redound to Democrats’ political benefit, either by breaking the GOP or by putting them on the wrong side of public opinion.

But in an extremely consequential election year, when consensus becomes an endangered species on Capitol Hill, it will take a groundswell of political pressure to force either party to work with the other on a substantive agenda. So expect the Dems to hawk these issues relentlessly.

    Story here: http://tpmdc.talkingpointsmemo.com/2012/01/senate-democrats-plan-to-put-republicans-on-the-wrong-side-of-the-middle-class.php?ref=fpblg

      ———————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————-
Pfarrer, who has been diagnosed with colon cancer, told the AP that profits from his book will go to his medical bills and that he wanted to write the book as a way to honor the “heroes of the bin Laden mission.”

Leaders of special operations have also discredited the book.

“The reaction is stunned, chagrined, disappointment,” Rear Adm. George Worthington, a retired Navy SEAL, said about Pfarrer’s book in an interview with the AP.

Others have noted Pfarrer makes errors in the book with facts that are widely known, including the date on which Navy SEAL Admiral Bill McRaven was appointed (2008, not this past April as Pfarrer states); the year in which the Army Special Forces Green Berets was created (1952, not 1962 as he says); and the manner in which al-Qaeda leader Abu Musab al Zarqawi was killed (in a jet bombing run, not through a drone strike).
      http://www.csmonitor.com/Books/chapter-and-verse/2011/1116/Book-on-bin-Laden-raid-is-a-fabrication-says-US-Special-Operations
      ——————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————–
Also, in the First Lady’s box yesterday was Admiral McRaven …who said this about the Prez.

McRaven speaks respectfully of bush as Commander in Chief, saying he “made some very, very tough decisions.” About Obama, without a question to prompt him, he waxes lyrical and at length. The planning and decisionmaking for the bin Laden raid, he volunteers, “was really everything the American public would expect from their national leadership.”

“The President was at all times presidential,” he says. “I would contend he was the smartest guy in the room. He had leadership skills we’d expect from a guy who had 35 years in the military.”

U.S. Plummets In International Press Freedom Rankings Due To Violence Against Reporters Covering Occupy Movement |

Today, Reporters Without Borders released their annual Press Freedom Index, a leading assessment of how well countries are living up to principles of transparency and media freedom. It had nothing but bad news for the U.S., which dropped precipitously in the rankings to 47th place.

The report bluntly explained that the U.S. “owed its fall of 27 places to the many arrests of journalists covering Occupy Wall Street protests.” Indeed, the U.S. fell almost as much as Bahrain, which was penalized for its brutal crackdown on reporters covering popular movements for government reform. The U.S. now ranks behind countries not typically known for media freedom, including Niger, Namibia, South Africa and Romania.

Was Gabby on TV after the SOTU whining about that? No! I also liked how she told him that despite OWS’ very vocal lack of support for him, he has shown them respect & empathy and even spoke about all of the issues OWS supposedly cares about in the SOTU, like economic inequality, Wall Street reform, finding ways to lighten crushing student loan debt obligations. Hullo! I was waiting for her to go there about the smoke bomb tossed onto the WH grounds but she didn’t. More sparkles & unicorns. The Magic Negro waves a magic wand and the local police immediately stops brutalizing a ragtag, disorganized group of people who just LAST WEEK were standing out in front of the Apollo Theatre in Harlem, excercising their 1st Amendment rights calling PBO a Nazi and a corporate whore. The Army is planning to cut at least eight brigades and 80,000 troops as it trims its budgets, U.S. officials confirmed Wednesday.

The new brigade cuts, which will happen over several years, will reduce the number of Army troops to 490,000 from a high of 570,000. The cuts, first reported by The Associated Press, could reduce the number of brigades from 45 to as low as 32.

The Army’s force reduction has been expected by analysts, but the cuts are now getting finalized as part of the Pentagon’s 2013 budget, which is the first that will deal with a $487 billion reduction over the next decade.

Any other president that would have accomplished maybe one or two things on President Obama’s long list of achievements well before the end of his first term I might add would surely be hailed the greatest president in the last 50 years or more..

    • January 25, 2012 at 6:17 pm

Personally, I think it’s a good thing for countries to know that about these stealth and effective fighters. Instead of looking out for huge army build up, they won’t see the Navy Seals coming. That’s a pretty good deterrent. They specialize in doing dangerous things, so warning about putting them in danger is kind of ridiculous.
