Right! The Repubs want education privatized and they want a teach to the test type of education not the creative passionate teacher type PBO was taking about. They also need the voters to be dumb in order to vote against their own best interests and to want jobs that are lower paying without benefits.

That was a great moment. I loved how he tied it all in with Secretary Gates and Clinton being his opponent in ’08. That were the toughest rivals, but obviously the best of team members now. There is no I in TEAM and they both embody that motto. Loved it. Not very flowery, but very much on policy. Very strong.

I remember PBO reading Team of Rivals by Doris Kearns Goodwin before he was elected and when asked what book he would take with him to the WH if he were only allowed one he named it. It was about the history of Lincoln and his choosing a team of rivals for his administration. PBO uses the counsel of rivals as well as those with a close ideology or yes men inorder to have all ideas before him to make better choices. He used that idea to help with choosing his own administration.

Well, if I were Mitch Daniels, I wouldn’t want to give the rebuttal any more. After an ending like that, it is going to look very petty to come out complaining and whining and misrepresenting everything PBO said. He once again has set up a trap for the Republicans, yet has given them a way to get out of it. He also knows they are too stubborn to do anything positive, so the trap will be sprung.

I wouldn’t say he’s a proud Repub. He’s deeply disgusted with the current Republican party. But he’s an old fashioned fiscal, as small a government as possible, trust people to take care of themselves conservative. He wants a radical restructuring of the tax code, certainly one that makes it simpler and more egalitarian. (I’m with him on that.) It’s a very liberal idea to use the tax code to structure business the way you want it — like rewarding companies for creating jobs here. He just hates that kind of thing. Remember the fit he had over the 2010 or 11 budget? Same kind of thing. Like many people, he wants PBO to use his formidable talents to further his (Andrew’s) own cause.

RUNNING A COUNTRY VS RUNNING A COMPANY

As much as Tweety gets on my one last nerve, he said something really funny to Rachel Maddow a few minutes ago (paraphrasing). Willard is always criticizing President Obama because he was never a CEO of a private corporation like him. Tweety said that President Obama can tell Williard that he may not have been a CEO like him but he has been the head of a COUNTRY. And I would add that President Obama is the leader of the free world because he was the CEO of his presidential campaign that he won. So Williard was the CEO of Bain. Meh.

Can you just imagine in a debate Obama-Romney, President Obama looking Romney in the eye and saying ” You’ve run a company; I’ve run a country.” That would be a quote for the ages.

I have to say though that if I had to bet today on who will become the republican nominee, I would bet on Gingrich. Romney is sinking.

This was the bravest speech I’ve ever seen a president give at a SOTU. He was not afraid to tackle any subject or hit any obstacle head on. There was no sugar coating or evasion, he just told the American people the truth. Washington does not work because these doofuses in Congress won’t look beyond their own rigid ideology and they’re also bought and paid for by lobbyists. You (the American people) have common sense. The Congress does not. He also made it clear that government has an important role working ALONGSIDE business and the American people to make the country work in an efficient and fair way. Over and above all that he was telling the American people that he’s fully in charge and means to act; that he has a plan that any person of common sense would support; AND he believes in the US, unlike every other Republican politician who preaches gloom and doom. If people did not come away from this speech feeling safer and in good hands because Barack Obama is our president, they were not paying attention. Bravo, Mr. President.

It takes tremendous courage to do what PBO did tonight and people with any intelligence should recognize that. The president said he would always tell us the truth and he did. I could tell that Michelle was a little nervous and I was too–at one point I was actually shaking. But our president showed himself to be so strong, so in charge, so much a person who has fully grown into his presidency that I was just plain awestruck. We owe our president a commitment to strive for the same kind of courage he showed tonight when we work to re-elect him.

At this point I simply don’t care what any half-baked pundit or PL says, nor what a bunch of pea-brained Repubs say in rebuttle. I want to focus all my energy on absorbing the speech, carrying its messages forward and supporting our president.

    THOSE ARE THE FACTS

    President Obama, SOTU 1/24/12

In 2008, the house of cards collapsed. We learned that mortgages had been sold to people who couldn’t afford or understand them. Banks had made huge bets and bonuses with other people’s money. Regulators had looked the other way, or didn’t have the authority to stop the bad behavior.

It was wrong. It was irresponsible. And it plunged our economy into a crisis that put millions out of work, saddled us with more debt, and left innocent, hard-working Americans holding the bag. In the six months before I took office, we lost nearly four million jobs. And we lost another four million before our policies were in full effect.

Those are the facts. But so are these. In the last 22 months, businesses have created more than three million jobs. Last year, they created the most jobs since 2005. American manufacturers are hiring again, creating jobs for the first time since the late 1990s. Together, we’ve agreed to cut the deficit by more than $2 trillion. And we’ve put in place new rules to hold Wall Street accountable, so a crisis like that never happens again.

The state of our Union is getting stronger. And we’ve come too far to turn back now. As long as I’m President, I will work with anyone in this chamber to build on this momentum. But I intend to fight obstruction with action, and I will oppose any effort to return to the very same policies that brought on this economic crisis in the first place.

Daniels in his response to S OT U said the nation is ‘grave,’ but the GOP can rescue it. Sure, that’s way the GOP sat there during the address like bumps on the log never clapping in agreement. Spilled milk Mr Daniels it’s too late for the GOP. Like President Obama said you can’t have it both ways.

Daniels had the audacity to characterize our President as a divisive leader too. Never mind the turtle and the Grimm weeper being divisive and VILE.

Can I ask this question, if the country is in the grave who the hell put the country in the grave? It sure wasn’t President Obama. He has been trying to get us out of the mess left to him by you know who. Along with Chaney, McConnell, Boehner, Cantor and the gang.
