Tamron Hall is on fire today! She is not letting folks get away with BS.

Rep Mica (R-FL) was certainly trying. What an irritating empty suit.

    • January 21, 2012 at 3:01 pm

Go Tamron! Could MSNBC finally be “all in”? Or “mostly in except for Morning Choke and Mrs. Greenspan and RATigan”?

        January 21, 2012 at 3:28 pm

I think except forJoe Scarborough, Dylan the RAT, and Andrea Mitchell, the other hosts on MSNBC are pretty much IN for PBO. They do go off the deep end sometimes and sometimes they aren’t as sharp as they could be, but other times when they hold politicians – Democrat or Republican – feet to the fire they do a good job. Tamron really was on fire today. She didn’t the GOP rep off the hook and she didn’t let the republican strategists BS their way through. She also allowed Debbie W. Schultz enough time to speak, enough time to tout PBO’s accomplishments, enough time to rebut Romney’s insane lies about PBO’s record and she (Tamron) even rolled off a couple of PBO’s accomplishments herself.

Marin Bashir who’s on right now is just fantastic. He doesn’t have time for BS and he lets politicians and pundits know right off the bat.

I agreed JOKE, Rat, and Mitchel have their own agenda GOP”s agenda and it shows. Martin is excellent
and he is very intelligent, Rev Al a grat job, Ed is also doing a great job. RM she is there, tweety is all over.
What we want from all the talking heads just to tell us the truth no B.S is very simple, because we are not

I think they know it’s too close to the general to be bullshitting around anymore. They know what’s ahead, so their play time is over. I don’t give them much credit for dallying all the time when, if they had been dishing the real, PBO’s numbers would be higher now, and more people would be engaged. So, no, they are playing catch-up IMO. But good for them. We can’t afford to alienate anyone right now.

Thank you Meta for the ringtone suggestion. Can someone tell me how I get it on my phone?

    • January 21, 2012 at 5:40 pm

You might want to read the instructions that came with your phone. Or Google this: How do I put a ringtone on my [insert make and model of your phone]?

      January 21, 2012 at 5:49 pm

      Do you have an iPhone?
      If so,
      just download to your computer,
      plug iPhone in,
      open iTunes,
find the download (on your computer)
Drag file on to the iTunes (should be an area that says “ringtone”).

Voila. It should then sync to your phone.

    Allow me a soccer rant.

Really Chelsea???? You can’t beat Norwich Fucking City??? The only reason you’re likely to make it into the Champions League next year is because Arsenal sucks worse!

He can’t score from two feet in front of goal!!! I don’t know if it’s the pressure of having had so much money spent to buy him, but he’s been useless. And with UEFA’s financial fair play rules for next season’s CL, none of the top teams can go crazy and spend insane amounts of money for new players.

    O/T ( I haven’t read the thread yet)

PLEASE TELL ME WHAT YOU THINK? – Who is @hochylora?

He/she apparently has over 30,000 followers, follows about the same amount, AND IS BEING FOLLOWED BY @BarackObama(??!!) and a couple of others from here. He/she seems a little too grandiose for me, but seems to have decided to follow me. While I would like to grow my followers before November, I don’t necessarily feel comfortable in this large a crowd without a family recommendation.

So, does anyone ‘know’ this person? I checked the profile but it doesn’t say much, and the fact that @BarackObama is supposedly following this @hochylora raises more issues in my mind that it calms.

? I saw Cholera 🙂 Kind of in the same vain as seeing “I’ve done many men all over the world” or whatever it is we all THOUGHT we saw the other day!

I don’t Tweet…so someone else here might know?

    • January 21, 2012 at 3:47 pm

vc –I usually just scroll through their most recent 20 or so tweets to see what someone has been tweeting. This guy doesn’t tweet anything of interest to me. http://twitter.com/#!/hochylora

      • January 21, 2012 at 4:21 pm

That was actually the first thing I did before asking you guys, and couldn’t see WHY he decided to follow me. The only thing I could come up with is that he’s just trying to increase his numbers. However, i admit to being intrigued that HE was being followed by @BarackObama who does not habitually follow anyone else in my stream. I’m just wondering if they are keeping an eye on him, and also wondering if that’s the case, why isn’t the SS doing it.

  6. January 21, 2012 at 3:13 pm

    Speaking of phones………..

It is a great day to go to barackobama.com and do some phonebanking from home! I’m going to make some calls right now actually.

President Obama Previews State Of The Union Speech To State, Local Officials

President Obama and two top White House advisers held a conference call with state and local officials Friday evening, previewing the themes of his State of the Union address and asking for feedback and ideas.

Obama gave opening remarks for a few minutes. The rest of the discussion was handled by Senior Adviser Valerie Jarrett and National Economic Council Director Gene Sperling, according to a state lawmaker who was on the call and requested anonymity because it was off the record.

The lawmaker said the call focused heavily on the speech themes of creating jobs and the economy. The topic of “insourcing” American jobs came up, and the president highlighted infrastructure — investing in the nation’s roads, bridges and high-speed trains…

      January 21, 2012 at 3:37 pm

As much as I somewhat appreciate the anonymous lawmaker previewing the speech. It was off the record. When it’s off the record, lawmakers need to learn to STFU!!! Especially when it’s an off the record conversation with the President. I want to watch the SOTU with fresh eyes and not have stuff leaked out.

          Hope this helps. 🙂

          • January 21, 2012 at 4:25 pm

        Agree, utaustinliberal,

I’ve already read that Romney(vulture capitalist extraordinaire) has LIED that this call was with DONORS as opposed to input from elected officials. Is there a reason that our own dems can’t just STFU for a few days?

Reminds of the late congressman Henry Hyde, who led the impeachment of President Clinton over the Lewinsky affair, but described his own out of wedlock affair, at age 42, as “youthful indiscretion.” For right wing Republicans, men at age 41 are still considered young.

It’s not her fault if that’s what her parents named her of if Ball is her husband’s surname. Plus it was a halloween party and everyone was dressed up as characters and having fun in the pictures. The GOP dug up those pictures to discredit her. She had a good platform and was doing very well in the polls. Plus, it was her husband’s nose the dildo was attached to and not some random guy. The GOP have a philanderer leading the polls and they hail him as the pious one but lo and behold a Democrat had harmless fun years ago and she gets crucified for it. Plus, I’ve watched her for a while and she’s a pretty good pundit who breaks down political mumbo jumbo in a sharp manner.

Speaking of ringtones, according to the New York Times, President Obama asked Steve Jobs “what would it take to make iPhones in the United States?” Jobs responded “Those jobs aren’t coming back.” One would think that Mr. Jobs would want to make the United States the biggest and baddest cell phone manufacture on the block. In my opinion Mr. Jobs was mostly concerned about the wages he would have to pay American workers.

It’s ok that they want to maximize profits. What Obama should’ve asked after Job’s answer is what type of corporate tax penalties would change your mind, mr. Jobs? The politicians should find that sweet spot where the greedy corps find it easier, maybe even cheaper, to keep jobs here than distroy US towns like Flint.

It’s sad that there is no semblance of privacy. Why should adults have to be apologetic about being coy and sexual with their spouse? I’m too conservative to do what she did. However, a person attended an adult party and engaged in adult humor – now they should be forever branded as unfit for public office? Now, wherever you go everyone whips out a camera/phone and takes a quick pic and don’t even consider asking people if it’s okay if they post it on their blog, website, facebook page – it’s utterly ridiculous. A teacher got fired for posting a picture drinking with friends while on vacation. I think that’s all she did at least. We brand her – but no one ever questions why her opponents dug up dirt on her? At the end of the day, the fact that she has a playful relationship with her husband might make her more balanced and endearing.

Desertflower – I initially responded to your comment but then drifted off into my general thoughts, so please know the majority of my comment is not directed at you personally.

Thank you so much, DF, for sharing this! Colbert is a genius! John Paul Stevens’ dissent in both “Bush v. Gore” and “Citizens United” really exposed the right wing ideological rigidity dominating the Supreme Court. If I am not mistaken, Stevens is in his nineties. But he is is still very lucid!

ooooooh, Axe got jokes!!! Good one, Axe, good one. Plus, that picture is phonier than a $3 bill!

First of all, WHO has a picture taken of themselves doing laundry?

Second, anyone that does their laundry on the regular would never, NEVER use the little itty bitty boxes of detergent. Why? Because they do their laundry on the regular, so they buy the gihugic box because it’s cheaper.

Third, if they were going to use the itty bitty little box of detergent, they would OPEN it so that the detergent would make it into the washing machine.

Fourth, You know damn well Mitt Romney does not do his own laundry. Even his “everyman” jeans look like they have been to the dry cleaners.

I’ll just wait for the picture of him pressing his white shirts. Yeah. right!!!……..What a phoney. 🙄

Labor group launching ads in Florida targeting Mitt Romney

    • 134 defytheodds
      January 21, 2012 at 4:53 pm

For weeks, Mitt Romney has gotten off scot-free in Florida because his cash-starved GOP rivals lack the financial resources to attack him on TV.

Now a Democratic labor union is about to fill the void, attacking Romney’s business record in a new ad, accusing him of what it calls “corporate greed” and linking him to Medicare fraud at a company where he once sat on the board of directors (see video below).

AFSCME has purchased airtime in Florida for the 30-second spot, which bends the facts to link Romney to Florida’s Republican Gov. Rick Scott, another businessman-turned-politician who once ran a company that paid $1.7 billion in fines, penalties and damages for Medicare fraud (still a record).

In the anti-Romney ad, which begins airing Saturday…

MTM, if you can’t download it directly on your phone. Use your usb cord and download it to your computer. When you first plug in your phone a box should pop up and click open general folder or something like that. Sorry not sure how it will look on your computer. Click on your music folder, theen go back to the downloaded ringtone and copy it, go back to the folder and paste it in your music folder (you may be able to just drag it) And BAM!! there you go. Make sure you hit the safely remove device button and unplug your phone. Then check your music in your phone and it should be in there. Set it as your ring tone and you’re good to go!! Hope I made sense 🙂

MAKE PEOPLE WANT TO VOTE, AND WE WIN BIG.

I love this tweet from Milt Shook on (1/20/12).

… In order to get that rout, we have to encourage as many voters to turn out and vote as possible. Make ppl want to vote, and we win big.

Some how we have got to educate the public so that they are outraged at the attempts by the GOP to disenfranchise voters. Whether you voted in the last election or not, you have to understand that the GOP is trying to take away a right that people fought and died for. We can not let that happen. I sincerely hope that the GOP plan to disenfranchise voters will make the opposite a reality. More Americans than ever getting registered and showing that they value the right to vote and reject any attempt to steal the election.

The Main (But not the only) Reason to Vote Democratic; The Current GOP Sucks; Here’s Proof

    ======================

Put simply, the current incarnation of the Republican Party consists of hypocrites. But more importantly, their political philosophy is KILLING the country. They have to be purged from the government, which we can’t do if we’re screaming that “both parties are the same,” or some other such nonsense. If you care about this country and the 99%, you’ll set as a priority getting rid of these incompetent people.

That has to be the main objective for progressives for 2012 and beyond; get rid of the right wing, and we can move the country forward. Without doing that, we really can’t.

NEWT’S RACIST REMARKS & CRITICISM OF THE MEDIA

Oh please, it appears many of the gasbags are just so surprised that Newt Gingrich has turned things around so quickly. Are you kidding me?? Newt Gingrich wrote the book on negative campaigning. Making racist remarks about African Americans and the poor, and criticizing the media was all the red meat the folks in South Carolina needed. They seem to think that all we need in a president is a good debater that hates the media and minorities. Newt put Juan Williams and John King in their place. Newt fits the bill perfectly.

I am glad people are taking him on; people of all racces need to call Newt Gingrich out on his reprehensible racist rhetoric. His additional comments over the last 24 hours accusing Juan Williams of not having a work ethic or understanding the value of hard work is horrendous and makes my blood boil.

I do not agree with Juan William’s philosophies, but I would never attack him personally.

Newt is feeding into a deep seeded racial profile that he knows will work with a percentage of the SC Repubs — it is ugly and it is not ok in this country. Of course, in my humble opinion, any state that still flies a confederate flag has a serious lingering issue with a ‘United’ States.

    Dearest Chipsticks,

I’m just catching up on the happenings here on TOD since yesterday. Funny how life off the interwebs can get to be so distracting. 🙂 I just noticed that congratulations are in order. Wow, 7 million hits! What a tremendous milestone!

In my humble opinion, every one of those hits is an affirmation of the message that
    – people are more valuable than money
    – a thirst for knowledge and a practical approach to problem-solving builds strong communities,
    – a shared sense of fair play, honor, compassion, and yes, humor are the true American values, and
    – a hopeful vision for the future ultimately wins over fear and hate

The power of this message is embodied in President Obama. It is what draws so many people to him. The light that you shine on this great man, his beautiful family, and his outstanding administration enriches us in so many ways. With a servant’s heart, you have given us a safe place to share and learn, to love and laugh, and to work toward a common purpose.

We honor you, we thank you, we love you!

Chuck Todd is a disgrace ….Did you all see who he just had on ? Bob Livingston….The Congressman that replaced Newt as Speaker and had to resign for having an affair himself.

During debate over the impeachment of Bill Clinton on December 19, 1998, Livingston acknowledged that he had had an affair and resigned as Speaker-elect. He challenged President Bill Clinton to resign as well. Livingston then announced he would resign from the House in May 1999

What annoys me about Todd is that he is clearly a GOP shill yet he pretends to be objective and gets huffy when people call him out on twitter. Last week he pretty much admitted he was a republican when he talked about growing up in a home where his dad voted R all the time. He kept spouting his dad’s GOP talking points and glowing ad nauseam about how right his dad’s conservative views are. His mask pretty much came off at that moment.

  48. January 21, 2012 at 5:59 pm

Brilliant piece from Josh Marshall about the difference between the 2012 GOP primary and the 2008 Dem primaries. Only 3 grafs, so I present it in full.

I was just asking our team of reporters what they’d heard today from on the ground in South Carolina. Turnout? Indicators? Whatever. The upshot was, not much. Average or maybe below average turnout. And in truth, these anecdotal indicators from the day of an election are more often wrong than not. But it reminded me of one of the big differences between the 2012 Republican cycle and the 2008 Democratic cycle — one of things people forget when they imagine that a drawn out primary battle automatically energizes a party.

The big fact about the 2008 primary battle was that supporters of Hillary and Obama were genuinely stoked about their candidate. Historically stoked on two important levels: both in the scale of their enthusiasm and that both candidates’ supporters felt — accurately — that they were on the verge of making history, a heady expectation. By the end of the battle there was a lot of anger and acrimony. But it was mainly because both sides were going to take being denied so hard. And that’s why the divisions were relatively easy to overcome.

You just can’t say anything like that about this primary cycle. The hunger to beat Obama is overwhelming. But the polls — especially by their inconstancy — have shown little strong affection for any of the folks on offer. And that suggests an outcome like the old saw about academic politics where the politics are so bitter precisely because the stakes are so small. That portends growing damage rather than mounting enthusiasm in a drawn out battle.

Thoughts are with you Carol. I lost my 100 year old wonderful Dad in April. Take good care of yourself during this hard time–blessings to you.

The media is treating this like a playoff game to see who gets in to the Super Bowl….even the commercials are over the top.

Funny how the economy is the top concern of SC voters (70% or more), but they continue to vote against their interests. Go figure.

Well they did vote Nikki Haley into office as their governor, just as Texas voted Rick Perry into office as their governor not once but twice.

Always confounding… My sister-in-law volunteers regularly at her local food bank and commented that she really wanted to start asking people how they were voting as a test to get their food — voted Republican; too bad, you should make it on your own. Well, of course she would never bring politics into a food bank, but knows from the last election cycle how many of the truly destitute in her district somehow think they should be voting Republican. She has grown weary of the repeated discussions on why they are voting against their own interests….

Oh well, we just keep working… 😉

Scalia on unlimited political ads: Turn off TV

That’s rich coming from the joker of the merry band of idiots who made Citizens United law. What the heck did he think was going to happen? That our TVs wouldn’t be flooded with ad after ad spewing lies and no one knowing who was responsible? I sincerely hope in PBO’s second term, a couple of these rabid rightwing justices retire. Ugh.

i don’t think it’s his intention, but by turning off the tv and turning to our computers for news, entertainment, and other content, we not only aren’t subject to these political ads, but we’re also not putting money in the pockets of the big corps which now own the tv airwaves. who, unless i’m mistaken, are the very guys the citizen’s united ruling was designed to enrich. could be another ‘oops’ for the right wing. i know i don’t watch, or even have, television anymore–and only see the ads when i actively choose to find then on the internet.

Thinking back to 2008 SC primary day, I was on a jazz cruise when PBO was declared winner of SC primary. Lots of debating and drinking that night. While most of my associates and friends supported PBO, most felt no way he would get the nomination. I declared that as soon as I hit home, I was booking reservations to Denver for the DNC. They laughed at me! I laughed last as I was in the “house” when PBO accepted the nomination. Sweet, sweet memories.

So many great memories of 2007-2008….4 years ago I was at a houseparty to watch the SC results. One woman talked about how her grandparents, African American and living in South Carolina, used to get up extra early on election day and get dressed in their Sunday best to go vote. It was that precious to them. When I think of that I still get chills.

Then last week a friend who monitored polling places in Virginia in Nov 2008 told me how folks came in on stretchers from a nursing home to vote – they would not miss the opportunity!!

THE TEA PARTY TAIL IS WAGGING THE ELEPHANT

I first heard this line from Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi back in December during the payroll tax extension debacle. The image it conjures up is just perfect. The establishment Republicans were too happy to harness the Tea Party enthusiasm. But they got more than they bargained for. They created a monster and the monster is biting them in the arse now. The Republican Party is imploding right in front of our eyes.

    • January 21, 2012 at 7:10 pm

Just like German conservatives in the 20’s and early 30’s thought they could get the Nazis to do their dirty work for them against the Reds and then be able to control them. No, the TP is not the Nazi Party, but the GOP establishment had the same idea. It worked, for the most part, with the religious right. They’re finding out it’s not working this time.

OMG, I just got in and I see OFA is in genius mode once again. Downloaded the ringtone!! If you have an iPhone, just download that version, sync your phone, and it automatically appears in your ringtone selections on your phone. 5 seconds max!!

For Californians, today was all about Nevada but I guess now we have to pay attention to SC. UGH.

Bwahahahaha. The batshit craziness of the GOP Clown Race is downright hilarious. For the first time ever we have three different winners of three different races. Iowa – Santorum. New Hampshire – Romney. South Carolina – Gingrich. This race is going to be going on for a very long time. PBO must be doing handstands in the WH tonight.
