As I was reading the other post I thought I was having a medical episode as I thought I was seeing spots before my eyes. Then the white spots increased. I went into the poll post next and the spots increased and then made sense. I think it is cure now that I know I am not experiencing an eye problem.

“Very Important Poll” ha ha ha, or should I say ho ho ho. I thought you were going to ask something more important–like where Boner should go for Christmas? I don’t really care just as long as he goes. I truly hope he never comes back. What a great Christmas present that would be. He honestly makes my skin crawl-I am not exagerating.

I live in Alexandria, VA . A couple of winters ago, when it snowed it was heavy enough to have the trees at the rear of my apartment take the shape of old men walking with their heads down. It looked quite hideous at night looking down from my balcony at the trees.

It’s ridiculous that McConnell is coming out to support Boehner not voting on the Senate Bill that got 89 votes in the Senate. Given that wide bi-partisan support there is no way the House should be allowed to not vote on it. For a House bill to have 89% support it would have to get 387 votes.

    The White House

    Office of the Press Secretary

For Immediate Release December 18, 2011
Statement by White House Communications Director Dan Pfeiffer

The bipartisan compromise passed in the Senate yesterday received 89 votes, including 39 Republican votes, and Speaker Boehner himself just yesterday called it a 鈥済ood deal鈥 and a 鈥渧ictory.鈥 The near 90 percent approval by the Senate reflected the view by the overwhelming number of Senate Republicans 鈥 as well as Democrats 鈥 that the best way to achieve the President鈥檚 goal of ensuring that taxes were not increased on 160 million Americans as we enter the New Year was to support this bipartisan compromise. If House Republicans refuse to pass this bipartisan bill to extend the payroll tax cut, there will be a significant tax increase on 160 million hardworking Americans in 13 days that would damage the economy and job growth. After months of opposition, we are glad that Republicans were finally showing a willingness to not raise taxes on middle class families. As the President said yesterday, it is inexcusable to do anything less than extend this tax cut for the entire year, and Congress must work on a one year deal. But they should pass the two month extension now to avoid a devastating tax hike from hitting the middle class in just 13 days. It鈥檚 time House Republicans stop playing politics and get the job done for the American people.

I like the terminology – “the President’s goal of ensuring that taxes were not increased” …

He totally seized the issue away from Congress, subliminally keeping it for his goal alone! Good messaging.

    • December 18, 2011 at 7:02 pm

I don’t think these releases really have any effect. Pres. Obama will need a prime time address tomorrow once the GOP House plays it’s games. Spell out what the Senate agreed to, and how the GOP House is putting in so many policy riders that have nothing to do with UEI extension or payroll tax cuts, but it’s the GOP backing out of a deal because they were afraid it would help.

89 Senators, including 39 Republicans voted to pass the 2 month extension and Boehner wouldn’t even put it to a vote because he was afraid it would pass.

Those who deserve 鈥榮corn and disdain鈥

    By Steve Benen

Facebook Twitter Digg Reddit StumbleUpon Delicious

With the U.S. war in Iraq coming to its overdue end, it鈥檚 worth noting those who got the policy wrong 鈥 and continue to ignore the error of their ways.

This week, Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), arguably Congress鈥 biggest cheerleaders of this tragedy, delivered a lengthy tirade condemning President Obama for ending the conflict and bringing U.S. troops home, arguing, among other things, 鈥淎ll I will say is that, for three years, the president has been harvesting the successes of the very strategy that he consistently dismissed as a failure.鈥

That鈥檚 actually backwards. Obama didn鈥檛 dismiss the Status of Forces Agreement reached between the Bush administration and Iraqi officials in 2008; the Status of Forces Agreement reflected exactly what Obama was proposing at the time. Officials in both countries completely rejected the course McCain recommended at the time, and as we now know, that was the right move. It鈥檚 curious that McCain would forget this relevant detail.*

In any case, the bitter Republican senator added, 鈥淚 believe history will judge this president鈥檚 leadership with the scorn and disdain it deserves.鈥

That seems to be an under-reported issue. The SOFA agreement was negotiated and agreed to at the same time the president was campaigning for the same timeline that lo and behold became the agreement between our country and Iraq in 2008. IMO there would be no SOFA in 2008 if it weren’t for the president campaigning on such a timeline.

      • 59 Obama Grandmama
        December 18, 2011 at 7:41 pm

That’s exactly as I saw it at the time, if it hadn’t been for the President campaigning to end the war in Iraq and all of his opposition against it the Iraqis would have most likely not have brought the idea up.

      Maliki Votes for Obama

      By Charles Krauthammer
      Friday, July 25, 2008

In a stunning upset, Barack Obama this week won the Iraq primary. When Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki not once but several times expressed support for a U.S. troop withdrawal on a timetable that accorded roughly with Obama’s 16-month proposal, he did more than legitimize the plan. He relieved Obama of a major political liability by blunting the charge that, in order to appease the MoveOn left, Obama was willing to jeopardize the astonishing success of the surge and risk losing a war that is finally being won.

Maliki’s endorsement left the McCain campaign and the Bush administration deeply discomfited. They underestimated Maliki’s sophistication and cunning.

Boehner is Still Bad at His Job
    by BooMan
Sun Dec 18th, 2011 at 05:50:20 PM EST

John Boehner is really starting to take “not very good at my job” to a whole other level. First he has a conference call with his members to praise the deal the Senate reached on the payroll tax holiday extension, and then he declares that he his opposed to the deal. I guess he is basically “Speaker-in-name-only.”

Mr. Boehner鈥檚 remarks on 鈥淢eet the Press鈥 came less than 24 hours after a conference call in which he tried to sell the package to his rank and file, pointing to a provision that would speed Republican-supported construction of an oil pipeline, known as Keystone XL, from Canada to the Gulf Coast.
But many Republican lawmakers were not buying what their leader was urging them to do, chiefly because they objected to the tax cut extension鈥檚 cost.

    ……………………….
Mr. Boehner鈥檚 decision to back away from a deal on the payroll tax cut is similar to his actions during debt-reduction talks with President Obama in July.

Reading Ed Henry鈥檚 time line because he鈥檚 talking with Boehner鈥檚 aide and Pfeiffer (WH team).

Boehner鈥檚 aide is claiming that the 2-month deal was heinous. Ed Henry asked if so heinous why did 39 Repubs vote for it. Boehner鈥檚 aide said it was because PBO was demanding to start his vacation now. Henry asks what proof does he have of that. Henry pointed out to Boehner鈥檚 aide that Boehner declared victory in a conference call and the aide says he was only talking about the pipeline. Boehner鈥檚 aide is pretending that they care about 鈥渦ncertainty鈥 and not kicking the can down the road. Pfeiffer reminded them that Repubs didn鈥檛 mind kicking the can on the debt ceiling when they proposed raising it little by little. Henry asked Boehner aide about the pipeline language if they amend the bill. No answer yet.

In the tweet where Boehner鈥檚 aide is so concerned about 鈥渦ncertainty鈥 I replied that this whole thing is bullshit. The GOP knew this day was coming and that they should pass a clean bill and knock it off.

How America And The Mainstream Media Got Breitbarted On NDAA
December 18, 2011By Jason Easley and Sarah Jones
    ————————————————————————————————-

鈥淎n edited video of Carl Levin claiming that Obama wanted the language in the NDAA caused outrage among many Americans, but the full Levin video reveals the opposite.
The YouTube video claimed to be proof that Obama is going to sign a citizen imprisonment law:
However, in the first 30 minutes of the debate Sen. Levin stated that the NDAA provisions do not apply to US citizens:

Hours prior to the YouTube proof video Sen. Levin stated on the Senate floor that the Obama administration requested that the provision be changed so that it does not apply to American citizens, but he explained the provision wasn鈥檛 changed because it already didn鈥檛 apply to American citizens, 鈥淭he administration officials reviewed the draft language for this provision the day before our markup and recommended additional changes. We were able to accommodate those recommendations, except for the administration request that the provision apply only to detainees who are captured overseas. There is a good reason for that. But even here, the difference is relatively modest, because the provision already excludes all U.S. citizens. It also excludes all lawful residents of the United States, except to the extent permitted by the Constitution. The only covered persons left are those who are illegally in this country or who arrive as tourists or on some other short-term basis, and that is a small remaining category, but an important one, because it includes the terrorists who clandestinely arrive in the United States with the objective of attacking military or other targets here.鈥

People need to stop believing everything they read from certain pundits and every claim made in a two minute video.鈥

        Hope they are satisfied?

    • December 18, 2011 at 8:50 pm

The Dems were all over TV saying the deal kills the pipeline because the liberal blogopshere, emoprogs and even some more reasonable “supporters” were loudly bombarding the intertubes pissing on POTUS and Dems for accepting the 2 month extension w/the language of the pipeline inlcuded.

Ergo, no whining, no reason to issue statements about pipeline…so how this is totally on alleged “supporters” IMHO.

WH rips Republicans for playing games-

    http://thepage.time.com/2011/12/18/white-house-calls-out-house-gopers/

Hehas tge upper hand again, because the Senate also passed a version overwhelmingly.

  44. December 18, 2011 at 8:23 pm

his year, House Republicans made it a top priority to roll back regulations they say are too costly for business. Last week, the GOP won a long-fought battle to kill new energy efficiency rules for bulbs when House and Senate negotiators included a rider to block enforcement of the regulations in the $1 trillion-plus, year-end spending bill.

The rider may have advanced GOP talking points about light bulb 鈥渇reedom of choice,鈥 but it didn鈥檛 win them many friends in the industry, who are more interested in their bottom line than political rhetoric.

Big companies like General Electric, Philips and Osram Sylvania spent big bucks preparing for the standards, and the industry is fuming over the GOP bid to undercut them.

After spending four years and millions of dollars prepping for the new rules, businesses say pulling the plug now could cost them. The National Electrical Manufacturers Association has waged a lobbying campaign for more than a year to persuade the GOP to abandon the effort.

Al Sharpton Reinvents Himself For His Second Act

At 57, the Rev. Al Sharpton is a long way from the young, overweight firebrand and street activist, known for his perfectly coiffed ‘do and his closetful of multicolored jogging suits 鈥 the provocateur whom some people wanted dead.

On a chilly January day 20 years ago, a drunken man with a steak knife stumbled through a mass of protesters in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn, and plunged it into Sharpton’s chest. The man, Michael Riccardi, said at the time that he thought killing Sharpton would make him a hero in the neighborhood.

Today he is a lean and dapper multimedia activist, who has carved out a public and political niche that few if any black activists have ever enjoyed. He hosts a daily talk radio show based in New York; leads the National Action Network, a social justice organization headquartered in Harlem that, since its founding in 1991, has seeded chapters in cities across the country, including Washington, D.C., and Atlanta; and more recently, has become the face of the cable news show “Politics Nation” on MSNBC. (He still has the perfectly coiffed ‘do.)

(ILIGAN, Philippines) 鈥 As a storm that killed more than 650 in the southern Philippines raged outside the store where she works, Amor Limbago worriedly called home to check on her parents, but their cellphones just kept ringing and later went dead.

Limbago, 21, rushed home as soon as the flash floods receded and confirmed her worst fear: Her parents and seven other relatives were gone, swept away from their hut by the river. They had eagerly planned a small Christmas dinner in that hut just days earlier. “I returned and saw that our house was completely gone,” a weeping Limbago told The Associated Press from Cagayan de Oro city. “There was nothing but mud all over and knee-deep floodwaters.”

Occupy Activists Stake Camp at Obama Office

Occupy Des Moines activists on Saturday vowed to shut down President Barack Obama’s campaign offices and set up a camp outside they plan to maintain around the clock.

“We have every intention to keep this place closed down until we are satisfied,” said Frank Cordaro, an activist and founder of the Catholic Worker group in Des Moines.

A handful of activists went to Obama’s nondescript office in a downtown strip mall after larger rallies to mark the three-month anniversary of the Occupy Wall Street movement in New York. They had hoped to read a statement demanding Obama cut military spending by half and “dismantle our U.S. military empire … so we can create jobs, balance the budget, meet our peoples’ needs here and help the human community to heal our dying planet.”

I shall definitely stand up for fruitcake seeing that we Trinis look forward to the season filled with much traditional christmas goodies and house to house visitations. So therefore, I shall be a slave in the kitchen this week, like most houses in Trinidad, making black fruitcake (the fruits have been soaking with plenty rum/ cherry brandy/sherry), pastelles, garlic pork, ham, turkey, souse; the drinks, sorrel, gingerbeer, and of course ponche -a – creme ( like eggnog but laced with an overabundance of rum). and lots of carols and parang music as the musical atmosphere.

    The successor:

Kim Jong-un is expected to become leader of the country after his father. His eldest half-brother, Kim Jong-nam, had been the favorite to succeed, but reportedly fell out of favour after 2001, when he was caught attempting to enter Japan on a fake passport to visit Tokyo Disneyland.[24]

Kim Jong-il’s former personal chef, Kenji Fujimoto, revealed details regarding Kim Jong-un, with whom he shared a good relationship,[25] stating that he is favored to be his father’s successor. Fujimoto also claimed that Jong-un is favored by his father over his elder brother, Kim Jong-chul, reasoning that Jong-chul is too feminine in character, while Jong-un is “exactly like his father.”[26] Furthermore Fujimoto stated that “If power is to be handed over then Jong-un is the best for it. He has superb physical gifts, is a big drinker and never admits defeat.” When Jong-un was 18, Fujimoto described an episode where Jong-un questioned his lavish lifestyle and asked, “We are here, playing basketball, riding horses, riding Jet Skis, having fun together. But what of the lives of the average people?”[26] On 15 January 2009 the South Korean news agency, Yonhap, reported that Kim Jong-il appointed Kim Jong-un to be his successor

OR – you might not have the available memory to run it. Some people never shut down their computers, so the cache is never cleared, and there’s little mem left to do animations.

Or do you have a lot of windows/tabs open?

Try restarting your system, then loading the page. It takes a good 30 seconds for it to start, after it loads the whole page….

Oh, the propaganda This on the cause of death from N Korea state news

.Later Update: The cause of death appears to be a heart attack. From the North Korean state news agency: “[Kim] suffered an advanced acute myocardial infarction, complicated with a serious heart shock, on train on December 17, Juche 100 (2011) for a great mental and physical strain caused by his uninterrupted field guidance tour for the building of a thriving nation.”

What “thriving nation” was he talking about? S Korea? Good lord.

By PATRICK H. CADDELL and DOUGLAS E. SCHOEN | 12/18/11 10:15 PM EST

We argued in a recent Wall Street Journal op-ed piece that President Barack Obama should stand down and let Secretary of State Hillary Clinton run as the Democratic presidential nominee in 2012.

We are now calling on Democratic voters nationally 鈥 particularly in New Hampshire 鈥 to organize a write-in campaign for Clinton. This is something that New Hampshire voters have a long history of doing.

Who the hell are those buffoons? Getting on my nerves….I have to find them on twitter.

‘We are closely monitoring reports that Kim Jong Il is dead. The President has been notified, and we are in close touch with our allies in South Korea and Japan. We remain committed to stability on the Korean peninsula, and to the freedom and security of our allies.’

I believe Kim Jong Il was known to be sick, and his big trip with his son to China last year was a big deal in that it was basically securing Un’s succession to Il, with the son getting China’s ok and support which would stave off any coup attempt against him because China wields a lot of influence and control on N.Korea.

The image on TIME’s cover 鈥 in which the 99% is unmistakably absent 鈥 is based on a photo of Sarah Mason, a 25-year-old Occupy L.A. activist (and art gallery worker) who was photographed by LA Weekly’s Ted Soqui as she stood in a line, arms linked, during a November 17 protest at Bank of America Plaza.

The original image, with a vinegar-soaked 99% bandana masking Mason’s face, her eyes focused and determined as she protests corporate greed, has unmistakable intensity and meaning. However, on TIME’s cover, she is reduced to a generic, hybrid graphic that fails to invoke passions precisely because it lacks the specificity of place, the specificity of time, the specificity of motivation, of a cause.

In short, it lacks the 99 percent.

Now, the image 鈥 created by Shepard Fairey, the L.A. artist known most notably for his Obama “Hope” poster 鈥 is intended to represent the panoply of protesters across the globe who have risen up this year.

    • December 19, 2011 at 8:40 am

OWS didn’t come about until mid September. The world and parts of the US have been teeming with protests long before OWS. I don’t understand why anyone is complaining about the cover. Share.

While a fractious Republican Party huddles at caucus sites across Iowa on Jan. 3, hundreds of state Democrats will be quietly plotting a path to bring down the eventual GOP presidential nominee.
The caucus-night effort, orchestrated by President Obama鈥檚 re-election campaign and the state Democratic Party, will take place at dozens of public schools and libraries, community centers and government offices in all 99 counties.
Organizers say state and local party officials and a designated Obama campaign surrogate will brief volunteers on the field of Democratic candidates and the strategy for winning in 2012.
A senior member of the Obama campaign 鈥 possibly the President himself 鈥 will deliver a live video message to each caucus gathering over the internet, state Democratic officials said.

k i know we’ve all been over this already but was listening to NPR on my way into work this morning and got the run down with the two month extension.

the extension should be a year. everybody agrees on that but they made it 2 months because then PBO would have to decide on the pipeline. and the reason the pipeline is in there is because Boehner said while they were hashing it out that the house wouldn’t even look at it unless it was in there. so they put it in thinking ‘great it’s going to pass this is what the house wants’. the senate passed it 89 to 10 which is huge bipartisan support. Now that its at the house boehner is all ‘we’re not passing this’ because his own colleagues said no.

Reid says – too bad I’m not reconvening the senate for you eggheads we put in there everything the speaker said you’d be happy with. you need to pass this bill.

have i got this right peeps?

and now today, we should be calling emailing tweeting and faxing people in the HOUSE to pass this bill. Yes?

    am

    • December 19, 2011 at 8:40 am

My point is this, we have them in a box.
If tge house does not pass this extension, the party of taxcuts is neutralized.
This is a very big issue that the media will not tell you.
The Democrats have the upper hand, mcconell made a mistake by passing the senate version.
      We got them!

        December 19, 2011 at 8:43 am

It’s the reason why McConnell said at the beginning of PBO’s adminstration they wouldn’t vote for anything. Because if they do it’ll be seen as bipartisan.

OT good news from my family. I wrote on a previous thread(Friday night or Saturday night) that my husband had a heart attack and was having surgery. I want to report that the surgery was totally successful, and he is coming home today. The doctor is pleased with his progress and he is in no pain. Modern medicine is wonderful. He had two stents put in two of his grafts from bypass surgery in 1989. The third one is totally clear. Today’s experience was so much better than 1989. Great strides have been made since then. My heart is filled with thanks today.

  99. December 19, 2011 at 8:35 am
