    (bringing over from last thread)

Not sure many people even care or would notice, but in case some do I want to let people know that I’m planning to stop commenting on blogs altogether in a few days. Just have a lot of things going on the work and home fronts (good stuff, thankfully!), and also want to really focus on activity with the local OFA chapter.

I’ve almost completely cut out MegaMedia ā€œnewsā€ sources so will still read here a lot and maybe one or two other blogs, but I’m forbidding myself from commenting. Let’s go out and win back the House and strengthen the Senate this next year, and remember kids, Only you can prevent mankini fires:

Chips, you are especially stunning this evening, and your brilliance is radiating through each little pixel of my computer screen, and please remember, if anyone should faint near you, please don’t stand over them. Otherwise they will think you are an angel and they have died and gone to heaven.

(Thanks for everything you do, Chips and the readers here!)

Ah Bonkers, I will miss you terribly, I appreciated so much everything you brought here. But I completely understand when ā€˜real’ life intervenes, so I just wish you all the very best and nothing but happiness. Please, if you get a chance, drop in now and then to say hello. Look after yourself, thank you for all your support and kind words, love ya.

Bonkers, good for you. Working with OFA to re-elect our president is the best way to spend what time we have to spare in our busy lives and tuning out the Mega Media news will help keep you healthy sane, and full of energy. There’s nothing like an unhealthy dose of the media to sap your strength. This is the best place to know what’s happening. See you on the other side of 2012. Obama/Biden 2012.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) suggested for a second night in a row on Wednesday that the Senate would be able to schedule votes in the morning on House Republicans’ pay roll tax cut extension bill, or a version of it, and the defense authorization conference report.Ā

In shutting down the Senate, Reid made no mention of the spending omnibus, apparently still in the works, or a continuing resolution that would fund the government past Friday when current funding is set to expire. The Senate adjourned at around 8:30 p.m. and is expected to return at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday.

If the democrats call the GOP bluff and shutdown the government, we have until December 1st to find an agreement. The Dow would lose 2500, credit would freeze up, jobs would be cut…
The republicans would then own the economy- but, those of us receiving government checks- not to much fun for us—

Chips, thank you for all that you do; the ā€œpromise keptā€ video is a keeper! Our president is a man of consistency for sure.

Some years ago I was watching TV and there were ā€œMr. Obama and Mrs. Obamaā€ in Africa being tested for aids so that people there would not be afraid of the aids test and told my husband that this young couple was so impressive for the work they were doing out there. I did not know who they were nor did I know that these great two would be our first family some years later. I never knew that my husband had known of them for the longest time and was already hooked on them.

In short, these Old Latino Farts will forever love the Obama family. And this is the first time that we have financially supported directly to a politician.

We have helped by volunteering time for this and that but not financially until Mr. Obama came around. Don’t take me wrong, we do not have much but we have to reelect President Obama and if there is $1.00 in our budget to spare then it will have to go to get PHO reelected for the greater good of our country.

Please forgive me for all the mistakes that I make either grammatically or in spelling, I was not educated in the USA but am a USA citizen. My husband was raised-educated here and is USMC Vietnam Vet and my child was born in California; both my child and husband do not correct my English because they know that I can ā€œ
    GET” them with my Spanish.

      December 15, 2011 at 3:36 am

Your English is fine. Thanks for the comment. I don’t ever remember donating to a campaign prior to aspiring presidential candidate Obama came along. I also volunteered my time, me and a Latina woman walked in a houshing development in Indiana. It was outside out of my comfort zone, but we both felt emboldened by our passion not only for Obama but for his values and how they shape his agenda. I plan on making such efforts again. I remember the disappointment in some of the faces of the residents because they could not vote due to past convictions. I wonder if we truly believe people can be rehabilitated.

      Good night to you.

BAGHDAD (Reuters) – The U.S. military officially ended its war in Iraq on Thursday, packing up a military flag at a ceremony with U.S. Defense Secretary Leon Panetta nearly nine years after the invasion that ousted Saddam Hussein.

The last 4,000 American troops will withdraw by the end of the year, leaving Iraq still tackling a weakened but stubborn insurgency, sectarian tensions and political uncertainty.

“After a lot of blood spilled by Iraqis and Americans, the mission of an Iraq that could govern and secure itself has become real,” Panetta said at the ceremony.

U.S. soldiers rolled up the flag for American forces in Iraq and slipped it into a camouflage-colored sleeve.

In October, President Barack Obama signed legislation implementing free-trade deals with South Korea, Panama and Colombia. Bet you probably hadn’t heard about that. The trade deals were the biggest since NAFTA — which President Bill Clinton signed into law after a titanic fight. Guided by his silky-smooth U.S. trade representative, Ron Kirk, Obama’s deals glided through the GOP House and the Democratic Senate. No fight, no credit.
Republicans should have adopted the same strategy on extending Obama’s payroll-tax cut. Like free trade, tax cuts are completely compatible with Republican orthodoxy. Heck, they are Republican orthodoxy. When we had a surplus, the GOP’s answer was to cut taxes. When the surplus turned into deficit (in large part because of the Bush tax cuts), the Republicans supported more tax cuts. In time of peace they argued for (wait for it) tax cuts. When we were involved in two wars, costing billions of dollars a month, then-House Republican leader Tom DeLay said, “Nothing is more important in the face of war than cutting taxes.”
How on earth did the GOP maneuver itself into a position where it is opposing tax cuts for the middle class and Obama is fighting for them?

Mitt Romney, who once hoped to land a knockout blow in January, is now bracing for a protracted months-long battle against Newt Gingrich, pointing to new election rules that make it mathematically impossible for any candidate to clinch the nomination before April 24.

Under the rules, which Romney has cited in several recent interviews, most states that vote before April 1 will award their delegates in proportion to the tally, rather than give them all to the candidate who wins a simple majority. A candidate who captures 30 percent of the vote but still loses the state, for example, will still get 30 percent of the delegates.

The Republican National Committee adopted the rules last year to make it harder for a candidate to wrap up the nomination early. The committee said the rules, combined with an election calendar that pushes more states to vote later, would force the candidates to campaign across the country, energizing more voters by giving them a greater say in selecting the nominee.

    http://mobile.boston.com/art/35/news/politics/articles/2011/12/15/new_gop_delegate_rules_could_mean_no_early_knockouts_for_mitt_romney_newt_gingrich/

A Senate committee easily cleared legislation explicitly prohibiting members from profiting by trading on inside information, despite objections from some GOP lawmakers who called it unnecessary and politically motivated.

The Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee advanced the bill by a vote of 7-2 Tuesday. GOP Sens. Tom Coburn (Okla.) and Ron Johnson (Wis.) dissented, calling the bill unnecessary and rife with potential unintended consequences. Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) also opposed the bill, but was absent from the vote.

Do any of you ever get the feeling that the far left wingnuts and PL whiners, are just waiting for these deals to go through Congress, to see where to critique the President?
They are like vultures. They probably have their shows booked to tell us all how much Obama caved.
And that is part of the reason the Republicans are doing this, it’s almost like they are working with the far left to destroy the President. Hmmmmm!

I heard this woman host on CNN say that the Dems caved on the surtax. Wasn’t that just one of the proposals for paying? I did not like the language she used.

      • December 15, 2011 at 8:33 am

I am so tired of this cave nonsense. The main thing we were calling on Reid to do is to block the House bill which tied the payroll tax cut to the Keystone pipeline. That was accomplished. Harry Reid said no way. Anyone paying attention should know that the GOP is not going to vote for raising taxes. The Dems tried and it was going nowhere. Dems are serious about passing the payroll tax cuts and if they can find another way to fund it, let them. F- the MSM and the PL.

  28. December 15, 2011 at 6:42 am

    Skipping town-

The White House late Wednesday called on Congress to approve a short-term resolution to keep the government running past Friday, as efforts to pass a payroll tax cut extension and a broader funding measure have devolved into a political game of chicken.

The move by the White House comes as House Republicans suggested after a closed-door meeting that they may attempt to pass a sweeping funding measure with Republican support alone and then head out of town, leaving the Senate to deal with House-passed versions of both that bill and a payroll tax package opposed by Democrats.

    http://mobile.washingtonpost.com/rss.jsp?rssid=597&item=http%3a%2f%2fwww.washingtonpost.com%2fFragment%2fSysConfig%2fWebPortal%2ftwpweb%2ffeeds%2fBlogsMobileIndividual%2fmobile-blogs.jpp%3fid%3d1000.3.633188924%26uuid%3d36d758cc-26c8-11e1-a32f-d82aa3617d8a&cid=961405

This is their last shot to get what they want. I expect this to be worse than the previous 3 attempts at shutting down the government.

One month to the day after the start of the effort to recall Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker from office, organizers have scheduled a Thursday press conference to provide a “special update” on how the effort is going.

And several liberal blogs and pro-recall Facebook pages said Wednesday that the Democratic Party of Wisconsin and United Wisconsin, the two groups spearheading the recall, already have collected more than enough signatures to force an election.

The effort to recall the Republican governor kicked off on Nov. 15, and organizers have until Jan. 17 to collect more than 540,000 valid signatures to force a spring recall election.

The blog New Dog Democrat reported Wednesday that more than 550,000 signatures have been collected and that organizers want to hit the 1 million mark before the deadline.

You’ll never guess who the Today Show decided we all needed to hear from about the end of the Iraq War——yep, shaking fist at clouds man, bitter loser John McCain. He and Matt Lauer are both agreeing that the Iranians are going to take over Iraq and it is a huge mistake to end the war. This is really pitiful, shameful. Now Lauer is quoting Cheney, asking if McCain agrees with Cheney. This is really despicable, corporate media—–only one freaking rt. wing side of the story.

    • December 15, 2011 at 8:13 am

That attitude right there is exactly why he lost the election. And so now Matt Lauer is a foreign policy expert? Moronic MSM revisionist history.

I think to myself, “unbelievable” but it happens every single day. This is now the SOP for all of TV. It’s so toxic and so broken I can’t fathom how it will ever be fixed. I grieve for this younger generation who will never know what real journalism is or can be.

    • December 15, 2011 at 8:37 am

Matt is full of shit. If Pres.Obama had decided to stay longer, Matt would have been up there with some liberal Dem jabbering about how Pres.Obama broke his promise. They’d even show a similar video to the one at the top of the thread.

      • 74 hopefruit2
        December 15, 2011 at 8:49 am

EXACTLY. Whatever position this President takes, the MSM stakes out the opposite, and hosts whoever is willing to come on TV and bash Obama for his position.

Had Obama decided to remain in Iraq, Dennis Kucinich would be all over the airwaves right now. We’ve seen this pattern before, we know the deal. It’s the MSM that has no core convictions – it’s all about controversy for ratings and using anti-Obama propaganda to undermine the President.
