$6?

OFA

I completely, totally and utterly hate asking you good people to part with your money, but I had a $6 dollar idea 💡

The blog is closing in on 6 million hits:

Seriously, when I started up in October 2009, I would have been more than ecstatic to have six hits, never mind six million.

So, I reckoned we could celebrate this (almost) six million awesomeness by donating $6 to The Obama Diary’s fundraiser for Obama/Biden 2012.

Please be assured, that money does not go to this blog, it goes straight in to the Obama/Biden 2012 fund at OFA where they allow supporters like us set up their own grassroots fundraising campaigns.

I started out with a $1,000 target ….. now we’re up to $8,000. Nuts!

You people are beyond brilliant.

If you can afford to donate $6 towards that target, thank you so much – if you can’t, no problem at all.

This is the link

Thanks everyone, see you tomorrow.

PS

FOUR MORE YEARS! 😉

****

Some highlights from our journey together, thank you for your company:

Hey Theo if you’re a permanent resident and have a green card, then you can donate to the Obama campaign. Just read the rules and see if applies to you. 😀

I’m in the final stage of the green card process (I procrastinated for a long time!). Hopefully, I can start donating in 2012 – just in time to take over from those who’ve maxed out. Thanks for the tip!

    Chips,

I did not know that TOD has been around since 2009. I only discovered a couple of months or so ago. I made a contribution to OFA via the link in this current edition of TOD.

Thanks again to all that you and others are doing in support of this truly gifted man.

Hail To The Chief! Hail, he is the chief!!!

Chips, I dontated to your page and the process I see is a lot better. For starters I didn’t have to re-type all my information again which saves wear and tear on my patience,, Theo67, I gave $12.00 so the other $6 is for you….

WASHINGTON — President Obama has invited the presidents of about 10 colleges and universities to a meeting at the White House on Monday to discuss affordability and productivity in higher education. While many White House events feature various presidents of colleges, a private meeting — called on short notice, with the president himself in attendance — is highly unusual.

The meeting, described as a roundtable discussion, will include Obama, Education Secretary Arne Duncan, White House advisers, and a small group of college presidents and “thought leaders” in higher education, according to an invitation sent by the White House. A list of those invited has not been released.

Amid an increasing focus on student debt and college prices, the event seems to signal that the Obama administration will make the issue a focus going into the 2012 campaign. In a speech Monday, Education Secretary Arne Duncan called on colleges to address rising tuition prices “with much greater urgency.” The House of Representatives held a subcommittee hearing Tuesday on rising costs, discussing a broad range of possible solutions.

Then on to watch those wonderful trips. We are the lucky ones. If we had a real media this country would know what a wonderful President we really have. You are the best.

The White House on Sunday night launched a major offensive to get Richard Cordray confirmed this week as the new head of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) created by the Dodd-Frank financial reform law enacted last year.

White House spokesman Josh Earnest said the White House will be targeting senators from seven states with a media and lobbying offensive. Alaska, Indiana, Iowa, Maine, Nevada, Tennessee and Utah are to be the focus of the administration’s efforts.

“Certainly this would be among the more aggressive efforts that the president has undertaken to get a nominee confirmed,” Earnest said.

Dec. 5 (Bloomberg) — The U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission may vote today to restrict how derivatives brokers invest clients’ collateral in a rule that gained urgency after MF Global Holdings Ltd. filed for bankruptcy protection and as much as $1.2 billion of its customer money went missing.
The rule, first proposed in 2010, may change how brokers invest clients’ margin in money market funds as well as limit investments in foreign sovereign debt and internal repurchasing agreements. The agency’s five commissioners are scheduled to consider a final vote on the regulation at a Washington meeting.
The CFTC needs to “tighten up” regulations on the use of customer money, Gary Gensler, CFTC chairman, said at a Dec. 1 Senate Agriculture Committee hearing. “I think that we should not allow what’s called affiliate repurchase agreements or in house — where you take customer money and lend it to another side of the house,” he said at the hearing.

Chips, I can’t thank you enough for what you do here. I’ve spent a decent amount of time in India, and the photo set from President and First Lady Obama’s trip to India is still a very emotional experience for me. The President AND the First Lady of the United States kneeling to below eye-level of little orphaned girls in India is such a breath-taking moment for me that I hardly know what to say to that. Combine that with him playing soccer with poor kids in Brazil and similar events across the world, and I doubt a case can be made for a more popular American President worldwide than Stanley Ann’s son.

It’s so easy to lose sight of this worldwide impact of our President with the American MegaMedia working full-time in bringing him down and CONSTANTLY promoting the failed ideology of Repuns, so I really appreciate the regular reminders of how lucky we are to live in the time of President Barack Hussein Obama and his amazing First Family.

Facing bankruptcy, the U.S. Postal Service is pushing ahead with unprecedented cuts to first-class mail next spring that will slow delivery and, for the first time in 40 years, eliminate the chance for stamped letters to arrive the next day.

The estimated $3 billion in reductions, to be announced in broader detail on Monday, are part of a wide-ranging effort by the cash-strapped Postal Service to quickly trim costs, seeing no immediate help from Congress.

Hi Chipsticks and my TOD family. I have been with you for approx. 6 months, but I just got up enough nerve to enter a comment. I am an Independent (who leans Democrat) who is an unconditional supporter of POB and VP Biden 1000%. In fact, I started supporting POB when he first made the official announcement that he was going to run for President, which was in early 2007–way before the Iowa caucus. What really impressed me about him was the first mail that I received from him–the message was so positive. I have been involved in politics for a long time, but over the years all messages had become so negative. However, then-Senator Obama impressed me so much by his positive attitude.

FYI, I was deeply involved in the civil righs movement during the 1960s. I participated in the sit-ins at lunch counters, and I also participated in the now-famous March on Washington and was there when Dr. King made his “I have a dream speech”. I worked on the “Shirley Chisholm for President” campaign in my area, as well as the “Jesse Jackson for President’ campaign” in 1988 as a part of the Rainbow Coalition. However, I am deeply dissapointed in Jesse now and the way that he has treated POB.

I was motivated to come in from the cold and finally comment by donating thru TOD. Although I have made many donations to OFA, I felt that since I do consider myself a member of the TOD family, that I wanted to show my appreciation for everything that Chipsticks and the TOD family does to make my life more bearable, by adding to your total donations amount. I love this forum so much, and frankly, this is where I get most of my news except for c-span and bbc. I had stopped watching all MSM, including MSNBC, for a long time. I tape Rev. Al everyday, and that is the only show that I watch on MSM.

Sorry to be so long-winded, but I felt that I needed to introduce myself to the TOD Family.

Chipsticks, hopefully I did this correctly because I am not a tweeter, etc. In fact, this is the reason why I had been reluctant to comment because frankly I wasn’t sure how to do it.

Very nice to welcome you, Bebe! I, too, have been what is (I Hope!) affectionately termed a ‘lurker’, as I loved to read the articles and the responses, but was reluctant to add voice! But now, this blog is the only one I frequent, as here I find intellect, respect for others views, articles posted by Chips that have much more substance. Quit with the MSM over a year ago, even quit with NewsHour after becoming nauseated with the waffling views of certain ‘journalists’ there. For them, no excuse for shoddy stories. Really really really miss Bill Moyers! Anyway, good to have your involvement, you have done much already! Signed, a Sister of the 60’s!

I hope to donate more in the future. You are doing such a wonderful job covering news about President Obama, which is either ignored or distorted by the so called mainstream media. 1. BIDEN TIME US Vice-President Joe Biden arrived in Athens yesterday evening for a two-day visit during which he will meet political leaders. Greeting Biden at Athens airport was Deputy Prime Minister Theodoros Pangalos. Today, Biden will meet with President Karolos Papoulias, Prime Minister Lucas Papademos and the leaders of Pasok and New Democracy, George Papandreou and Antonis Samaras. Speaking to the press on his flight from Istanbul to Athens, Biden said that eurozone leaders understand the high cost of failing to act on the bloc’s debt crisis and US confidence that Europe will finally overcome the crisis has not clearly improved in the last two weeks: “I think the clearer it becomes that there’s no alternative and time is running out, not just in Europe but in the United States and the world … is when you’re more likely to get some very difficult decisions made.”

Even as Republicans ride a roller-coaster primary to pick their 2012 presidential nominee, they’re preparing for a relentlessly negative general election campaign.

Barack Obama may have won the White House with an uplifting “change you can believe in” message, but without accomplishing promises of bipartisanship and turning around the economy, his path to re-election inevitably requires making the Republican option unpalatable.

“His campaign will largely be focused on tearing down the Republican nominee. It will be a very different campaign than we saw four years ago,” said Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, who, like most Republican leaders, sees Obama as unable to win on his record.

    http://www.tampabay.com/news/politics/national/playbook-for-barack-obama-versus-mitt-romney-can-be-found-in-1994/1204855

    • December 5, 2011 at 7:41 am

Oh and isn’t Bobby Jindal the first person you would turn to to find out how the president will conduct his campaign? I’m sure Jim Messina calls him every day to check in.

      • December 5, 2011 at 7:54 am

I know! But the point is the blue book is already there, on how to beat Romney!
It’s the Teddy Kennedy campaign! I would hire bob schrum as a consultant!

      • 47 desertflower
        December 5, 2011 at 8:02 am

Positive! What WOULD PBO do without the advice and confidence of Bobby Jindal?

        • December 5, 2011 at 8:15 am

You notice, all article cannot be all positive news for the President, so they have to throw in a comment or two that deshelves the whole article?

        • December 5, 2011 at 8:15 am

I didn’t know that Governor Jindal’s office had a direct line to Jim Messina. Isn’t it just funny how Republicans just know how the Obama campaign will run for re-election. Since, you know, Republicans didn’t know how he ran the last time.

Chips, woke up to this great news and contributed. I love the Meryl Streep clip where she talks about the importance of the Kennedy Center as a symbol of national support of the arts. Also loved her evident love and awe of the president. I think that the numbers on this site will explode in the next year as more and more people realize this is one of the very few places where you can get real information about the president without wading through a swamp of trolls. Thank you, Chips, from the bottom of my heart for this oasis.

U.S. exports, a driver of expansion in the world’s largest economy, will grow next year even as a sovereign-debt crisis pushes Europe into recession.
The euro area’s share of overseas sales for American-made goods has dwindled to 13 percent from 19 percent at the peak in the early 1990s, according to Joseph Carson of AllianceBernstein LP. A trade shock that cuts all euro-zone imports by 10 percent in the next 12 months would trim U.S. economic output by only 0.2 percent, UBS AG estimates.

Congrats Chips on your 6 million hits. After I post this comment I am going to donate $6 six times. Why you ask? Well, many of you may remember that in the last quarter we were furiously donating to help Donna win the Grassroots Fundraising Challenge. I was one of many people who donated in increments of $3 because Donna discovered that is what one of her closest competitors apparently asked her contributors to do to try to steal the victory. After my initial $5 donation, I donated $3 nine times to help keep her atop the leaderboard. Well, after that fundraising quarter closed and the analysis of where PBO’s $60 million dollars came from began, there was an article that, to the surprise of the author, revealed many of PBO’s contributions were coming from states and cities with the highest unemployment. I remember the article specificly noting that even in hard-hit Detroit, PBO’s donations had increased, although in smaller amounts. The author seemed shocked PBO’s Detroit supporters were still contributing to his campaign and I thought to myself, they’re probably talking about me and my 9 $3 contributions, (among contributions from others here as well, I’m sure). Donna, thank you for allowing me to help the President with his fundraising in a most unexpected way. So for this quarter I want the media weasels to see again that Detroit still loves and supports PBO even if we’re contributing in smaller amounts.

Even before the fundraising challenge, I would spread my contributions out to help PBO’s showing in the number of contributions but admittedly, I did not do it in such small amounts (usually in increments of $10 or $20). So, again Chips congrats and thank you and have a great day. I always do because of your tireless and brilliant work on The Obama Diary.

Vice President Joe Biden was in Greece Monday, meeting with that country’s leadership as they try to work out a deal with other European Union countries to stave off a Euro collapse.

Appearing with Greek Prime Minister Lucas Papademos, Biden told reporters that the United States stood ready to assist Greece.

“It is overwhelmingly in the interest of the United States that Greece work its way through this financial crisis and that it remains a strong and vital part of the European Union,” Biden said.

The vice president also sounded a note of optimism about the ultimate resolution of the European debt crisis that has roiled European and global markets and affected countries across the continent, from Ireland to Portugal to Italy.

“I think that out of difficult times opportunities present themselves. And with a lot of hard work and a little bit of luck, a year from now we will have not only weathered this crisis, but even be in a stronger position,” Biden said.
