….you named it “I love Michelle eyes”….so true. When I see him look at her with “those I.L.M eyes” his eyes twinkle and that smile is so broad and his face shows much love. You can’t fake that.

Their love for each other keeps them solid as a rock and makes the hateful envious.

  10. November 21, 2011 at 12:25 am

I’ve NEVER seen love and mutual respect like this on the ‘family values’ side of the ledger, so their disrespect, other than showing their ignorance and their crassness, doesn’t affect the price of butter!

Chips, thanks for reminding us that love conquers all. 😆

Barack, Michelle, may your love continue to strengthen, sustain, shelter, and empower both you and your family for decades to come! There are millions the world over who love you and are blessed by your commitment and caring to each other and to those you encounter. We may not be as loud as the detractors, but our presence will be noted in 2012. God bless you both!

    G’night TODville!

I’m skipping through the posts here because it’s late and I have missed just about all the conversation today so forgive me if someone else has made suggestions, but in addition to donations don’t you think it would be nice if we were all to send a thank you card through the old fashioned snail mail to the First Lady? Wouldn’t it be lovely if she received a pile of pretty cards expressing just how much she is loved and appreciated?
Will check back in the morning to see if anyone else would want to join in. We could also spread the word on twitter and ask others to do the same.
    Goodnight lovely people. 🙂

Words are very important. As a retired postal worker I take offense of the term “snail mail.”. We have the best and the most efficient mailing system in the world. Second to none. So please just refer to mailing correspondence by the use of the Postal Service or the mail system. Thanks.

Mae. I was just joking. It’s the best and only really effective way to deliver a thank you card so please overlook my choice of words and understand that the sentiment behind the general idea is to do something nice for the First Lady.

I am dropping a card in the mail today to express my thanks to the First Lady and my confidence in the US Postal Service.

I hope that others will do the same. 🙂

    Hello everyone:
Chips, I think I got it now…..I had a busy day at church, so I am just getting time to just say that I thank you so much for these pics. I have been feeling all week that I just need to see them together, loving, caring and that “look of love” just do me in everytime. I agree, we all needed to end these nine days and especially this weekend with something positive. I just have to say, is it me or are you in my head? Even when I was lurking, I would just think of a video, song or whatever and you were spot on. How could have know how much I really needed this? I just feel so good when they are together. I am glad that he is safe at home with his family.
@PrayerWarrior: Thank you. It is good to know that my prayers are being answered. You confirmed that by posting here and “It Is Well”.
Good night and tonight, this will be the best sleep ever. This is a safe place. Thank You President Obama for all your hard work.
    Rest, peace and much love.

“Winners and Losers of the Deficit Supercommittee Deadlock

President Obama: On his tour of Asia, Obama wisely stayed about as far away as he could get from the supercommittee train wreck. After getting burned by being too close to the debt ceiling negotiations, Obama learned his lesson and let Congress embarrass itself. The supercommittee’s failure to reach an agreement only helps his strategy of running against Congress, as Harry Truman did in 1948. Now, he can spend the next year blaming congressional dysfunction for the country’s woes.

House freshmen: Whether this debacle was their fault or not, the new, largely Republicans class elected in 2010 has come to represent the congressional logjam and they are suffering for it. They are already running into fundraising trouble and House Democrats outraised their GOP counterparts nearly two-to-one last month. Passing a bipartisan deal that satisfied the markets and reduced the deficit could’ve done wonders to reform their obstructionist image. Alas, it was not to be. So, while running for reelection having raised taxes would’ve been hard, this group is doubly screwed as they also bear the blunt of the blame for the sorry state of affairs.”

    “GOP freshmen see fundraising dwindle

WASHINGTON – Two-thirds of the Republican freshmen who captured Democratic-held seats in the GOP’s 2010 takeover of the U.S. House of Representatives saw their fundraising dip in the past quarter, campaign-finance reports show.

Several of the new incumbents, including Arizona Rep. Paul Gosar, in a rematch with former congresswoman Ann Kirkpatrick, have been significantly outraised by their challengers. In addition, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee took in nearly twice as much campaign cash as House Republicans in September — a sign Democratic donors are energized, despite low poll rankings for Congress and President Obama.”

A late comment on the Chris Cilliza (sp?) article about Pres. Obama’s rock solid base – it’s another one of those things where what I felt on the ground wasn’t what I was reading in the press; finally somebody wrote something I can believe! The folks I hang out with – solid Democrats – still strongly support him. It was so refreshing to read something like that in a big paper. Remember when the NYT wrote that article about small donations failing for PBO then about a week later the campaign announced their record-breaking numbers of small donors?

I don’t have cable so I only hear about MSNBC second hand – how bad overall are they on bashing the President? Do I just hear about the crappiest stuff on here? I know Rev. Al is reliably supportive. But if I had MSNBC on all the time in the evening, what would be seeping into my political thoughts in general – mostly anti-Republican?

    • 87 proudmemberofglobalzero

Yes, bashing Republicans is the evening mainstay. You would think that could trot out a few of the Presidents achievements but,,,,,they are short on research too.

You know, that whole interview was just a big ass mess. ” He hasn’t called any of them since the election.” And? What the hell is he supposed to talk to them about, “Hey, how’s your Mama?” Seriously, its like he’s their daddy. This man, who is younger than damn near all of them, NEEDS to talk to them in order for themselves to feel important.

      • November 21, 2011 at 8:15 am

These guys got elected to office. When running they told voters that they have a plan, a set of beliefs and they were going to DC to get them accomplished. They get to DC and all of a sudden you can’t do anything until you hear from POTUS? Cowards is what they are.

God, this backstabbing Manchin is amazing with his verbal garbage! Imagine he has the nerve to compare the state of WV to the US federal governement. he is one of those people who think they will one day be President but I have news for him, he would need the total support of we President Obama-supporters and we will NEVER give it with garbage like this on tape. we need to send notes to his office reminding him of this so that he can know we are watching his actions and filing them for future use.

I guess today’s beltway theme is that failure of the suppercommittee in congress to come to an agreementt is PBO fault. What a bunch of do-nothing whimps!!!!

    • November 21, 2011 at 7:52 am

Unfortunately, west Virginia is one of the lowest approval ratings for the President.
As a result, Manchin feels it is in his best interest to bash the President.
      Who is lobbying Manchin?
      Big coal- that is who!!!

      • 97 Chi
        November 21, 2011 at 8:37 am

Joe Manchin obviously nurses national political ambitions and will have to win more than West Virginia clearly…

So unless Manchin is planning a national run as a Republican, he can pretty much kiss any national political office beyond Senator from W. Virginia goodbye…

He will never win national office as a Democrat…and any future Democratic ticket that even flirts with the idea of this guy in some support role, will also fail…

Stick a fork in Manchin, he’s pretty much done as a Democrat beyond West Virginia…

    • November 21, 2011 at 7:55 am

By Michael Georgy and Qasim Nauman

ISLAMABAD (Reuters) – Pakistan’s Taliban movement, a major security threat to the country, is holding exploratory peace talks with the government, a senior Taliban commander and mediators told Reuters on Monday.

The United States, the source of billions of dollars of aid vital for Pakistan’s military and feeble economy, is unlikely to look kindly on peace talks with the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), which it has labeled a terrorist group.

Past peace pacts with the TTP have failed to bring stability, and merely gave the umbrella group time and space to consolidate, launch fresh attacks and impose their austere version of Islam on segments of the population.

The discussions are focused on the South Waziristan region on the Afghan border and could be expanded to try to reach a comprehensive deal if progress is made.

The Taliban, who are close to al Qaeda, made several demands, including the release of prisoners and the withdrawal of Pakistani forces from South Waziristan, said the commander.

If These two wonderful people were anyone else or republicans it would be Camelot on steroids. The American media would show every move they made and tell us how lucky we are to have them in the White House. How many times did I have to watch Mrs. Bush read to children pushing her reading programs, or Bubba making a fool out of himself overseas. I am so fed up with how these two fantastic people have been slighted and ridiculed. I call myself an Obamacrat in jest; but out of respect for the most outstanding president in my lifetime I am going to re-register as an Obamacrat. Any person running for office will have to measure up in some way to the political standards the president has set for himself.

Call me playing that dastardly card, but black people’s romances are never appreciated by the larger society. Just look at the history in film, in print, on TV. No Camelot for us. Just work horses, nannies, mammies, jezebels, sirens, hoods, thugs, pimps, etc. Not simply being in love, with kindness, caring, dedication. Guess they had their fill of the Huxtables.

OWS is about to go head to head with a more formidable opponent than they’ve encountered so far: namely 99 percenters shopping for the holidays. In that moment, they will have to clarify what they are actually about to the 99 percenters who aren’t feeling their protests. I don’t think OWS will be have enough steam to last until the convention.

I find myself — and I’m probably not alone — disgusted with the excessive force as exemplified by the pepper-spraying of passive protesters at UC Davis and disgusted with a protest movement that seems more interested in creating conflict footage as exemplified by UC Davis, than doing anything substantial to reverse wealth inequality.

If they continue to lose a substantial percentage of 99 percenters, there won’t be an OWS movement. Despite their rhetoric, I don’t feel and have never felt they are fighting for me as a 99 percenter. I relate to occupying DC in order to get jobs legislation passed not to drum circles around Mayor Bloomberg’s house to have viral Youtube videos spread.

…or take over struggling cities like Oakland and cause such hardship to struggling small local businesses and cash-strapped local governments by unnecessarily burdening them with additional police and sanitation costs and damages to structures plus loss of business to small vendors who are barely staying afloat…

OWS has indeed turned off many would be natural supporters and will certainly turn off others when they learn that OWS is now asking for tax deductible donations…

Money does have a way of tainting and destroying movements…especially one that bills itself as fighting the influence of money but seems so far to have very shamelessly hankered after it under every guise…

Last night I posted a suggestion that we should all send in a thank you card to the First Lady expressing how much we appreciate her service.
Theo suggested I post the request again this morning since I am a night owl and most here were already in bed. FiredUpInCa has kindly posted the address:

    First Lady Michelle Obama
    The White House
    1600 Pennsylvania Avenue
    Washington DC 20500

Please grab a thank you card and a stamp and let the First Lady know she’s appreciated. I am going to make the request on twitter too. Thanksgiving is coming up so it seems like the ideal time to do something like this.

I need to leave for work soon but I will follow up with more tweets tonight. 🙂

found this comment over at Pragmatic Obots Unite! about these jackals (the Democrats who go around trying to undermine the President and his re-election chances):

The corrupt establishment Democrats who have been put out to pasture by President Obama’s election are going full blown ape shit in their drive to defeat President Obama.

Look at Chris Matthews and “his Democrat sources” who claim that they “have not heard” from President Obama and that he “does not like them” is so blatant in its HIT PIECE /TAKE HIM DOWN intent.

Chris Matthews’ main source would be Ed Rendell who Chris Matthews has been quoting for some time now including his stupid slip up a few weeks ago when he contended that “nobody likes Obama and so no high profile Democrat is out there playing surrogate on his behalf”.

That was before he let slip that Ed Rendell had told him that if Hillary was president, he would be “out there fighting for her”.

This is all you need to know. Ed Rendell and the other corrupt Clinton Democrats who support their party and President only when their palms are greased and they are seriously bribed and bought are behind this.

It is evident that at first the Obama team reached out to Ed Rendell and tried to work with him, but soon realized that Rendell was not interested in helping re-build the country or supporting the President and the Democratic agenda.

No. Just like so many of the old Democratic establishment, if there are no ambassadorships, board memberships, supreme court spots, DNC chairmanships or some meaty appointment in it for them or their wives, then they aren’t interested.

I suspect the White House finally had it and cut off Ed Rendell especially after he also started leaking details of even the least consequential meetings he had with the Obama team. As “Senior Democratic source” of course!

I think he is really now smarting from being completely ignored after they gave up on his sorry, worthless ass.

And Chris Matthews the complete buffoon just squeals like the oral diarrhea patient he is – and thank God for that!

Ed Rendell will pay dearly for the role he has played in the undermining and sabotage of the Obama presidency.

I think they have no idea just how strong and unwavering is the support President Obama really enjoys amongst Democrats, but they will all find out soon enough and the hard way.

And as I’ve said before, people like Ed Rendell are so done and they don’t even know it. The ground has permanently shifted under them and they don’t even get it.

The days of wielding corrupt power and influence and holding a great man and President hostage while threatening to blow up his presidency if he does not cater to your greedy and corrupt ass, are over.

Ed Rendell is no different from the rest of his friends who in a bid to take down President Obama, have essentially just self-destructed instead and will be forever relegated to the annals of obscurity where they rightfully belong.

Spiteful, short-sighted, vindictive, greedy, corrupt idiots.

These photos are the best possible beginning to thanksgiving week. Our beautiful couple in the White House is our lodestone, a great source of love that all of us share in. There is going to be a lot of crap this week about the debt committee this and the debt committee that, but I don’t think people are going to care. They were finished with the deficit issue last summer and now they’re thinking about gathering family and friends for dinner and putting together a great meal or making sure the local food pantries for the homeless are well-stocked. Ugliness and snarkiness from the media aren’t going to sit well this week and people will either tune out or, if they’re Democrats, get more energized for the president. So let’s make this a week of love. Write a note of thanks to our president, first lady and Joe and Jill Biden. Tell a friend or loved one or co-worker how much you’re thankful for our wonderful president. If you make a donation to any charity or food bank, say that you’re making it with thanks in your heart for our beloved president. And model the love with everyone you meet. It helps to get angry sometimes and push back on the media and the liars, but a few times in the year it’s important for Democrats to show they’re different–that they reach out in love, not hatred and that they, like the president, truly are their brother and sisters keeper. Little kindnesses, little acts of love, so that when you proudly wear your Obama stickers and put out you signs, people will say, “Oh that’s that nice person.” And, who knows, next time you tell them about the president, they may listen just a little bit more. We can help lift up the president with thanks, enrich our souls, and make a difference with our neighbors all in one week. I’m ready to give it a try!

Latino Groups Urge Obama to Stand Firm on Birth Control Without Co-Pays
    November 18, 2011 – 4:42pm

Today, a coalition of more than 20 organizations representing millions of Latinos sent a letter to President Obama urging him to support and maintain the recent Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) decision requiring health plans to cover preventive health care for women with no co-pays, including cancer screenings, immunizations, and birth control. Recent reports have indicated that the White House, under mounting pressure from the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops and other far-right religious groups, may be considering an unacceptably broad exemption that would leave millions of women without insurance coverage for contraception.

In the letter, the groups, led by the National Latina Institute for Reproductive Health (NLIRH) and the Hispanic Federation wrote:

As national leaders in the movement for Latino rights and equality, we support full reproductive rights, including access to birth control for all women, and reject efforts that put the preferences of insurance companies and employers over the rights of women to make their own contraceptive health decisions in consultation with their doctors. We urge you to stand by your own administration’s decision to issue new standards requiring all insurers to cover contraceptives without a deductible or a co-payment. As you know these new rules already exempt churches and religious institutions from having to provide contraceptive coverage without cost-sharing for their employees.

    Democrats Consolidating Hispanic Vote Early

President Obama’s relationship with Hispanic advocacy groups and lawmakers hasn’t always been perfect. But with the election a year off, he’s starting to put up some strong polling numbers among Latino voters.

Obama’s approval ratings among Hispanic voters — and the broader electorate — have been relatively weak at times this year, but as the Republican primary campaign hits the home stretch he’s showing no signs of trouble in matchups with any of his potential opponents. An extensive survey of Latino voters by Univision this week showed Obama racking up similarly high margins against Mitt Romney (67-24), Rick Perry (68-21), and Herman Cain (65-22). The 2-1 ratio is roughly in line with Obama’s margin against John McCain in 2008.

Teach Your Children What To Look For And Listen To Them!

I didn’t post this article for sensationalism, or voyeurism, but to express my deepest gratitude to Extreme Liberal for having the courage to come forward and share a very personal, painful experience. As parents, sisters, brothers, aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents, and friends–we have an obligation to protect each other when we can. I say “when we can” because realistically speaking there may be times when we simply aren’t able to protect the ones we love. Silence can have devastating consequences, especially for those–young and old alike–who don’t know how to reach out and let someone know that they’ve been hurt in this way. I know this is a topic that makes many people uncomfortable or angry, and it should. But It’s not my intention to evoke those emotions. Imo, this is an issue that needs to be discussed more often with our families and friends TO RAISE AWARENESS. Again, thank you Extreme Liberal!~

I was sexually assaulted by two teenage boys in my neighborhood when I was around 10 years old. The two incidents were independent of each other. I don’t know exactly how old I was or the amount of time that separated the incidents, but based on what I remember, I’m pretty sure I was between 9 – 11 years old when the assaults happened. From what I’ve deduced, the teenagers were both around 4 years older than me. It was a difficult time in my young life, my father died when I was 6 years old of a heart attack and my mother was a single, working mom — trying to raise 5 boys on her own. I never told my mother about the incidents. If I had, all hell would have broken loose and heads would have rolled. She was absolutely the best mother that ever walked the earth.

The first person I told about these assaults was a girlfriend, I was 20 years old at the time. I’ve since been very open about it and have come to terms with it. I encourage anyone else who has suffered through similar assaults to get it out in the open, talk to people. So much of the pain that people carry around is because they keep it to themselves.

Thank you Creolechild. I have a ten year old niece and worry about her because she is so sheltered by my brother and his wife….maybe that’s good but I fear they don’t talk to her about these types of things.

Congress kills request for National Climate Service

At first look, the proposal is as dull, bureaucratic and routine as an agency request to Congress can be. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration wanted to reshuffle its offices to establish a National Climate Service akin to the agency’s National Weather Service. It asked for no new funding to do so. But in a political climate where talk of the earthly kind of climate can be radioactive, the answer in last week’s budget deal was “no.” Congress barred NOAA from launching what the agency bills as a “one-stop shop” for climate information.

Demand for such data is skyrocketing, NOAA administrator Jane Lubchenco told Congress earlier this year. Farmers are wondering when to plant. Urban planners want to know whether groundwater will stop flowing under subdivisions. Insurance companies need climate data to help them set rates. But the climate service, first floated under President George W. Bush, became predictably politicized.

“Our hesitation,” Rep. Andy Harris (R-Md.) told Lubchenco at a hearing in June, “is that the climate services could become little propaganda sources instead of a science source.”
