rock solid

Chris Cillizza (Washington Post): Everyone knows that President Obama has a problem with his political base heading into 2012. Except that he doesn’t.

One of the most persistent story lines for the president has been that the liberal left has grown increasingly dissatisfied with his actions (or inaction) on some of its priorities …. but an examination of the polling data among key subgroups that constitute Obama’s base makes clear that he has as much support from them as any modern president seeking a second term.

…. “Is the president’s base upset? You bet, but they aren’t upset at Obama,” said Cornell Belcher, who conducts polling for the Democratic National Committee. “They are in fact sympathetic to what Obama is trying to do and what he is going through.”

And Hart wrote in his year-out memo: “His base will be invaluable, and this has been underestimated. It should not be.”

Thank you LOL

You know, I have no clue what to say – except thank you, so so much:

That’s $6,005 from you very lovely people in to the campaign for the re-election of President Obama.

Again, thank you – yet another target reached.

The legend that is BWD, meanwhile, is closing in on her stupendous $10,000 target at OFA – if you can help, click here

Hello, My Name is GGail, and I am a part of Pres. Obama’s ROCK SOLID BASE! 🙂

    Have a pleasant evening all.

Just think, if he ever got some, just some positive press coverage? He would be a constant 50%, instead of a constant 44%.

    Anyways…

“Is the president’s base upset? You bet, but they aren’t upset at Obama,” said Cornell Belcher, who conducts polling for the Democratic National Committee. “They are in fact sympathetic to what Obama is trying to do and what he is going through.”

This is what the beltway pundits are missing the most.

While canvassing in Ohio people are ticked, and it’s true it’s not at POTUS but at Republicans and Democrats who bash this president.

    • November 20, 2011 at 11:17 pm

Ahh, that is our secret weapon. I remember people on CNN in 08 saying, are we missing something about Obama?

Yup! All this over the top and hiding positive story lines puts him against the dc establishment.
Right where he wants to be!

Is it time yet for Maxine “Troubled” Waters to come out from her clueless protection program to unleash on PBO once more? Or shall we bring Corny West out from the Seminary he has retreated to to do a poverty tour so the corporate media can regale us with tales of PBO’s dwindling base and doom.

So many looney nuts so little time. PBO energizer bunny going steadily strong and strong.

Meanwhile Romney vowing to privatize medicare and raise age limit. There’s a joke in there somewhere. if you privatize Medicare, what has age limit got to do with it? Aren’t the rest of us already in private healthcare without age limits? I need help grasping Willard’s lunacy.

    • November 20, 2011 at 11:17 pm

I spoke to my brother today. He is a conservative Republican, so we have been polar opposites in the political realm for most of my adult life. But something happened to him in 2008. As we neared the election, he took me aside and told me he would vote for Senator Obama. He also really liked the selection of Joe Biden as VP. I was floored. We don’t talk about politics much but today I asked him what he thought of the Republican candidates. He just shook his head and said they are terrible and everyone knows it. I think he’ll be voting for President Obama once again. I think anyone who is paying attention knows that the GOP has nothing to offer. They may still vote for the freaks but everyone but the 27% knows they aren’t worthy candidates.

      • November 20, 2011 at 11:21 pm

The issue is to make him see that the divided government/congress doesn’t work either. He needs to vote Dem for House and Senate.

Meta, a lot of Repubs are in denial. I asked in an earlier thread, what is the definite date which we will know who the rep nominee will be?

        • November 20, 2011 at 11:39 pm

There’s no way to know when the Republican Nominee will be selected. So many factors: who wins the first four primaries/caucuses? Who Wins Florida? Who wins the most on Super Tuesday? Clearly they don’t want a protracted race because it makes them look weak, even though having a long primary battle helps the eventual winner (see: 2008 Democratic Primary). Another factor is who drops out? Romney dropped out early in 2008 “for the good of the party” when it became clear that McCain was going to get the nomination. He won’t be as willing to do that this time.

The base doesn’t lose faith at the drop of a hat.

The base doesn’t give up because it’s hard.

The base doesn’t whine because everything isn’t perfect.

The base isn’t about optics or cosmetics. It’s about real change, institutional change, and that takes hard work and commitment and time.

    I am the base.

Agreed. I just had this conversation with a former co-worker who spouted all the usual PL talking points and then had the nerve to say he was PBO’s base and I told him that based on everything he had just said that there was no way he was a part of PBO’s base. I told him, “I am the base. You are someone who backed another candidate, reluctantly settled for PBO and then proceeded to rip him apart from day one. You are not the base. I am the base”. He was so exasperated with me but he finally admitted he was for Kucinich. And I said see, “I told you; you are not the base. I am the base.”

    • November 20, 2011 at 11:16 pm

My fantasy, Tien, is that GOPolitico will want to interview me one day, as a bundler.

Me: “I support the President now even more than I did four years ago, I am so proud of what he has achieved in the face of relentless and ugly opposition.”

GOPolitico’s reporting of the interview: “Utterly disillusioned Obamabot says: Vote Mitt Romney!”

        • November 20, 2011 at 11:45 pm

Ah, Hopefruit, I can give you an exclusive preview of my interview with Piers.

Piers: “You must be very disappointed in Obama.”

          Me: “You mean President Obama?”

          P: “If you insist.”

Me: “I do – you worthless piece of dog poo.”

P: “So, you think Obama is a complete failure?”

Me: “Um, did I say that?”

P: “I could tell you were thinking it by your facial expression.”

Me: “Ah no Piers, that was me thinking you are a complete failure, a total fraud and an absolute dick.”

P: “Ah, so you’ll be voting Romney then?”

Me: “No. President Obama is beyond awesome – four more years!”

          P: “That’s a yes for Romney, then?”

          Me: “Piers?”

          P: “Yes?”

          Me: **** loud punching-type noise ****

And with that, security escorted me from the building. 😳

All the talk about the base not being there just make the still existent base work harder (thinking they have to pick up slack – slack that really isn’t there). Every slight just makes folks donate and work harder. The Michelle Obama being booed today, let’s not forget she has approvals over 70% and when people see folks they like disrespected it just makes them angry and protective and motivated.

Absolutely, and I am a proud member of that base, even more so than in ’08. Last time, I missed going to Washington. This time, if God is willing, I’m going to be there, even if I have to go into debt and rent a vehicle to transport me and my motorized chair. This country needs PBO – these last 3 years have shown that. This is not just about pride in the man, but deep concern for America. He is absolutely one of the best presidents of my lifetime, if not the best. I pray for him and his administration every day. I believe God hears, as he continues to sustain him and give him success.

    I’m all in.

  25. November 21, 2011 at 12:09 am

I never expected an easy ride for this President. No doubt, he is a different kind of leader. His problem is not that he is controversial, but that he is so insistent upon values that define what is best about our traditions and our history. How often have we heard him exclaim “that’s who we are” as Americans when speaking of the mutualism of citizenship. He will cite “E pluribus unum” to celebrate equal rights and equal opportunity as well as responsibility for one another. He will insist that we are indeed “our brother’s and our sister’s keeper”. That’s not just a phrase for him, that’s a core belief. With that in mind, of course he will be the President of all the people all the time. He will treat all citizens wth the same unfailing civility and regard, including those who do not respond in kind. He will take pains to understand the points of view he does not share, not because he is lacking conviction, but because he will always attempt to find some common ground as a base for discussion and negotiation. The outcome of such negotiations must always meet the test of “who we are”. Or, in the case of the arrogant dismissal of such things as the Geneva convention, he will say “that’s NOT who we are” and insist upon making our actions match our values. There are those who dismiss this as “elitism” or as somehow ill-conceived and unrealistic, but it is this same clear evidence of character that people value most about this greatest of all Presidents. And that will prevail over all self-centered political grandstanding and furor, over envy, racism and contempt because all of those manifestations fail the test of “who we are”.

Beautiful, hgerhard. You described what is at the core of our president, which is solid, enduring and very, very spiritual/religious. Contrast this to the coreless Romney and the candidates who speak about religion, but never behave in a spiritual way and you have a stark choice for voters. My nightly prayer is that people open their eyes and really see how beautiful our president’s soul is and how much he has accomplished for them.

Fantastic! I share your sentiment. I truly got a sense of the man who is Barack after reading his first book.
It wasn’t about his writing skills as much as his ability to self-examine and see things from the other person
point of view. I believe that he’s a special man and once in a lifetime leader. And I am an unwavering,
dedicated, and enthusiastic part of his rock solid base. It’s funny how it felt good to type that. :))

My computer was on the fritz… I had to have the hard drive replaced….fortunately they got the work done in 10 days not three weeks as they had originally suggested. Being seriously addicted I worried about withdrawal, I was worried I might ‘chew my fingers off’ in frustration. I tried to keep my mind off what I knew I was missing….art projects and reading helped me to maintain a sense of calm.
