I think most of you have probably seen this video already, but for some reason HuffyPo and others think it’s only just appeared – it’s been on YouTube since March 2009, someone else just copied it and posted it two days ago!

Any way, you can never see it enough ๐Ÿ˜‰

AP: Dresses, china and mementos dating back to days when Americans referred to the first lady as “lady presidentress” or “republican queen” will return to view Saturday at the National Museum of American History, along with Michelle Obama’s dashing inaugural gown as a centerpiece.

The new exhibition “The First Ladies” features 26 dresses and about 160 other objects ranging from Martha Washington’s White House collection to a first look at Laura Bush’s china. It’s the 10th version of the first ladies exhibit in nearly 100 years. The last one closed in October as the museum moves historic objects out of its west wing for a major renovation beginning early next year.

I think it has to do with a love of one’s Democracy in a country that is teetering on the brink of KOCH invested waters. But, even if we didn’t have all these facist enemies and drooling profiteering leftists.. I think I would appreciate him exponentially. We’d just be working on

This is the most strikingly odd part. Cain says:

โ€œI call it a journey, not just a campaign, because it doesnโ€™t stop,โ€ he said. โ€œWeโ€™re in the primary. Then you run for president. You win the presidency, serve four years. (Then you) might have to serve eight at the insistence of the people. Then after that, launch a Cain library,โ€ then a post-presidential speaking tour, he mused.

      I say:

At the insistence of the people? Does this sound like Communist China to anybody but me? Like he’s going to be our Dear Leader or something? I can’t put my finger on why he’d use that phrase, but it seems a little perverse in some way.

OT-Didn’t most of us here say that this is what OWS should have been doing from the very beginning

One goal of the protests, Henry says, is to pressure Republicans to support Obamaโ€™s jobs creation proposals. More generally, the aim is to highlight Congressโ€™s misguided obsession with the deficit and overall inaction on unemployment.

โ€œWeโ€™re taking about it as an effort to take back the Capitol,โ€ Henry says. โ€œIt would be great if we could build pressure that goes beyond the jobs act.โ€

    • November 18, 2011 at 6:10 pm

Donna, they must have listened to Rhandi Rhodes’ show yesterday. She devoted most of her show to this. Today she also said that they should follow congressional members and take photos at fundraisers and stuff. she does not like seeing the people getting hurt and fighting with the police.

      November 18, 2011 at 6:13 pm

To the OWS movement, I say, No shit Sherlock! About damn time. This is what they should have done from the very beginning. Congress is where legislative actions and laws take place. You want to change shit? You want to change the direction the republicans are taking the country? Occupy Congress! Vote! Register people to vote! Educate people about President Obama’s accomplishments! Educate people about the American Jobs Act! Work to get the House and Senate under Democratic control! Don’t just set up tents and pitch a fight with cops. That’s just plain stupid. Finally labor groups realize that they have to step up to the plate and give this faction some much needed focus and direction.

Utaustinliberal, as always, you totally nailed it. Just imagine how strong that movement would be if, after two days (or may be a week) of protest/occupation, the movement moved to conduct mass voter registrations, circulated petitions in favor of the jobs bill, and identified and trained candidates to challenge the teabaggers at all levels of government, local, state and federal.

    • 34 Jennifer
      November 18, 2011 at 6:21 pm

Great piece, thanks. It takes a long time for a movement to coalese. As Van Jones eloquently stated the other night on some show or another, blacks sitting at the lunch counter back in the day didn’t know where things would go, they just knew what was happening wasn’t right. As I’m sure Rosa Parks didn’t know. Speaking of the wondrous Rosa, many teachers walked out of California universities yesterday with signs saying that they teach the 99%. Here’s the very short article – notice the VERY white little girl’s name. Her mom is to be commended all the way around.

      • November 18, 2011 at 8:24 pm

The people of the Civil Rights Movement knew where they wanted to go, planned, trained for and coordinated their protests. They also understood that they would have to work with politicians and the POTUS to get there. With all due respect to Van Jones, I do not see any of that in OWS.

          November 18, 2011 at 9:59 pm

Thank you on your comments on this issue. With all due respect as well to Mr. Jones, my uncles, aunts, grandparents, and my friends, knew the goals and the basics of where we wanted to go, some sense of how to get there, who to help us get there, who to contact and have contacts in places where we they were trying to go and damn well knew how to respond to the hateful, unlawful( for them) actions that might be used on them while they were trying to get there.

It was well organized otherwise, you would have seen many more children, men and women killed, hurt very badly, and lives turned upside down without the planning and organizing. So Mr. Jones needs to speak with some of the elders in very respectful positions and still living that history. My advice to Mr. Van Jones. I am not putting him down, but I wish when some of these people want to invoke the Civil Rights Movement in to so many of the newers and great movements, they really need to do their homework.

We are trying to accomplish so very important goals here, so prepare yourself, Mr. Jones and others. These people are hopeing that the people who are putting their lives on the line are NOT prepared, not organized etc. Speak the truth with true convictions, Mr. Jones.
Been there and many dear ones are no longer with us because they gave it all for many of us to be where we are to this day.HZ

        November 18, 2011 at 8:37 pm

Actually, Mrs. Parks probably had a pretty good sense of the aftermath of her actions. See, she went to school for organizing:

This school is still going, and Martin Luther King, Jr, Pete Seeger, and many others have gone there to learn how to mobilize people. It’s an art form, and there are schools scattered all over America that teach this. President Obama attended one in Wisconsin shortly before he recorded the video above:

Hopefully, these OWS people will understand this requires education and foresight as President Obama understood in his 20s, and stop being used as pawns by Karl Rove and the Billionaire owners of the ENTIRE MegaMedia to divide and conquer Democrats, as they are now.

      • November 18, 2011 at 11:10 pm

As Van Jones eloquently stated the other night on some show or another, blacks sitting at the lunch counter back in the day didnโ€™t know where things would go, they just knew what was happening wasnโ€™t right.

Van Jones is wrong. We knew exactly where we wanted things to go, we planned what we were going to do and did it. The civil rights
movement had a long history in Baltimore. My Mom even marched on the picket lines to get Tommy Tucker to hire blacks in the 1930’s.
In 1963 we were going to change the state public accommodations law instead of one place at a time. The jails were full and the state changed the law.

They need to figure out what they want and what will get them there.

        • November 18, 2011 at 11:26 pm

I am so happy to see so many pioneers responding to Van Jones. Morgan State University held an event last Thursday to celebrate the students who participated in the movement (1940’s, 50’s and 60’s) and John Lewis was the keynote speaker and he thanked us for leading the way.
I salute all of you who stepped up.

        November 19, 2011 at 9:43 pm

Let’s state major differences between 1955 (Rosa Parks);1960-61 (The “Sit-in Movement and Freedom Rides”) and the subsequent Freedom movement of the 1960’s with today’s OCW.

        1. Those movement organized to demand specific changes: Integrate lunch counters etc., and integrate buses. Because segregation in the South was sanctioned by law, the protest movement was accompanied by filing court cases to overturn those laws. To say that blacks did not know where things would go is totally inaccurate. I’ve not seen any specific action taken by OCW to demand either the Courts or Congress to change laws.

        2. Because of Jim Crow laws, Blacks in the South were systematically denied the right to vote. In such a situation their only recourse was through boycotts and mass demonstrations aimed at petitioning government to change laws that denied them the basic citizenship rights that would have allowed them to bring about political and social changes within the system. But again the focus was both on protests, pressuring political institutions (President and Congress) to change the system hence the 1964 Civil Rights Act, the voting Rights Act of 1965 and other Supreme court decisions. Again I am not sure what specific actions OWS has taken to bring about the changes they advocate

        3. Securing the right to vote, which has been central to black struggle for freedom, dating as far back as the beginning of the United states, became central to the Civil Rights movement. People then were very clear that without political power you cannot advance or defend your interests. Once many of the Jim Crow legal and illegal schemes to deny Black people the right to vote were outlawed by the Voting Rights Act. Blacks focused on voter registration to try to gain power or influence their representatives to look out for their interests. It is true that there were blacks who did not believe in voting (e.g. the Muslims and other Black Nationalists) but these factions believed in separation to establish their own nation where they could exercise power. I am not sure what the faction in OCW that advocates non-voting intends to do to bring about the change they advocate.

There is nothing wrong with protest but protest must be accompanied by practical steps to bring about the changes we advocate. In this case, as revolting as their ideas are, the teabaggers understood how to bring about the changes they advocated. They mobilized to vote for people who advocate and advance their interests.

Unemployment hit a two-year low this fall as South Floridaโ€™s hiring market slowly rebounds from historic lows, according to numbers released Friday.

Miami-Dade, Floridaโ€™s largest local economy, saw its jobless rate drop from 11.5 percent to 10.8 percent in October, the lowest since the summer of 2009. In Broward, unemployment slid back from 9.4 percent to 8.9 percent, the lowest since the spring of 2009.

On the hiring side, South Florida employers added about 9,000 positions for the month. Broward had its strongest monthly job gain since 2006, and Octoberโ€™s hiring pushed Miami-Dade payrolls above the 1 million mark for the first time since early 2009.

Barney Frank is hilarious! He was just on Politics Nation with Rev Al and he tore Romney and Gingrich up! He said that the difference between Romney and Gingrich is that Gingrich flip flops for millions of dollars; Romney on the other hand flip flops every second if he thinks it appeals to the GOP base and will get them to like him. He also said that Romney flip flops so that he can move up a few percentage points in the polls. He’s never seen a candidate so disliked by his party. In Barney Frank’s view, Romney has a crush on the GOP base and every time he thinks they’re going to take him out on a date, he gets dumped for someone else. ๐Ÿ˜† ๐Ÿ˜† ๐Ÿ˜†

The media is obsessed with anything “Obama.” Wouldn’t take them long to stumble across this site. Also, I’ve seen this site mentioned when some of the videos of PBO holding babies, and other interesting pictures were posted here. I’m sure Romney’s pals in the MSM check here daily to see what PBO is doing so he can imitate him if at all possible.

        • November 18, 2011 at 8:21 pm

saintroscore, name the reasons in list format that will make in your words this to be”an epic mess.” What brings you to this conclusion? Also, why do we have to have the doom and gloom on all the great and wonderful things that so many positive people are becoming a part of? I just do not understand your thoughts on this one.

No hard feeling,, I just do not follow your line of thinking. Thanks so much saintroscore. The MSM does enough of the “bash, and this is your negative moments, Mr. Presidents.” Can we stop those, please. Thank you so much.HZ

Sometimes Saintroscoe, it is okay to just let things play out…

The pessimistic and cautionary projections over every single thing does get really tiresome and seriously stifles enthusiasm…

Deconstructing political matters may be useful, but dampening every bloody piece of news by reeling out every single thing that could potentially go wrong – long before the event is actually finalized, can be overkill…

Yes they are desperate. If the media is digging up for stuff to make a scandal they are going to be sorely disappointed because these past clips only make him seem all the more consistent and all the more admirable.

Trust me, PBO has folks who monitor those sites. If a youtube video from 2009 suddenly appears on many MSM outlets, you can be darn sure that the WH knows about it.

        • November 18, 2011 at 7:42 pm

            November 18, 2011 at 8:34 pm

This video was posted on Youtube over 2 years ago in early 2009, probably by a supporter of our President and has been there since. Yet it seems that someone from the MSM only discovered it recently and it has suddenly been shown on a number of sites, most notably right-wing or otherwise anti-Obama sites like drudge Breitbart, HuffnPuff, etc. Even Tweety showed it on his show today. As you know our MSM is centralized so that if a video shows up on one site, chances are you will see it on a number of different news sites and cable news.

So we’re just having a chuckle about how desperate the MSM is, since they were clearly scouring the internet hoping to perhaps find something on the President that they could use against him or turn into a scandal, and they found this video. Not exactly sure what about it scandalous or controversial unless they are hoping to make it an issue about race since he is honoring a Black individual’s role in the Brown vs Board of Ed legislation as part of Black History Month.

Chuck Todd finally said the words “President Obama” on the news tonight—-first time on the trip, as far as I can tell. After showing a pic in his Balinese shirt and a short interview with Hillary about Burma, he said, “President Obama heads to ______(can’t remember) and then home on Sunday.”

Well, his unfit body and sluggish brain simply cannot handle the change in time zone and jet lag, so he has no choice but to regurgitate the GOP talking points he’s being continuously fed on his blackberry from Comcast/MSNBC. I’m sure he, Snarl, and Norah probably slept through most of the President’s speeches abroad.

Jovie, thanks for your observation. I thought I was loosing it. That is all he does. I even mentioned to him about the very issue that you brought up.

He has the assignment of a lifetime, and there he is giving out the score of a game and the odds of who is going to win etc. He should follow Newt. That would really be match up for Mr. Todd. What wasted moments in history. Sorry behind reporting.HZ

You know, watching this clip is reminding me what a different media climate we’re in now as opposed to as recently as 20 years ago. Can you imagine any network airing something like the “Black History Minute”, aside from BET or Centric? Now it’s all reality shows and infotainment.

You make a good point about the now vs. then posting of this 1991 video, Liberal Librarian. This was first posted back in the days when Turner Broadcasting stood for something meaningful as related to providing news and public service broadcasts. The fact that this old video clip is being re-posted all over the place now as if it’s some surprising “find” by the MSM leads me to suspect (like others on this blog are saying) that something must be up.

    Color me shocked:

“The e-mail rumor mill is run by conservatives

Of the 79 chain e-mails about national politics deemed false by PolitiFact since 2007, only four were aimed at Republicans. Almost all of the rest concern Obama or other Democrats, such as Hillary Rodham Clinton. The claims range from the slightly daffy (the White House wants to rename Christmas trees as โ€œholiday treesโ€) to the serious (the health-care law will grant free medical care to all illegal immigrants).

Snopes turned up 46 viral e-mails regarding Bush during his eight years in office. By contrast, in just four years as a candidate and as president, Obama has been the subject of 100 such chain e-mails. The difference is not just in number but in kind: Twenty of the 46 Bush e-mails checked by Snopes turned out to be true, and many of these flattered or praised him. Only 10 e-mails about Obama have been true, and almost every one of them has been negative.

Emery estimates that more than 80 percent of the political e-mails that heโ€™s vetted over the past 10 years were written from a conservative or extremely conservative point of view. โ€œThe use of forwarded e-mail to spread [false information] around is overwhelmingly a right-wing phenomenon,โ€ he said.”

Thank you FiredUp! This is very important and should go viral on Twitter and elsewhere. Too many people believe the nonsense they get from random chain emails and it’s disgusting. I think folks should be made aware of the agenda of these emails and also to check their “friends” who like to forward them such emails unquestioningly.

      Now off to Tweet.

WASHINGTON–Mayor Rahm Emanuel is heading into a big national blitz: a major speech for President Obama at an Iowa Democratic dinner in Des Moines and then a repeat of his defense of the Obama record on ABC’s “This Week” on Sunday morning. On Monday night Emanuel is profiled on NBC’s “Rock Center,” in interviews taped in September and October.

I thought this was interesting. I was mad I couldn’t remember the country Obama heads to on Sunday for my above comment, so I was googling his schedule after not being able to find it anywhere else—-and the only place I saw a mention was on WSJ’s Market Watch site. Still didn’t find out but saw this on the WSJ site: “The Congressional Republicans have declared it their top priority to keep President Barack Obama from getting re-elected and have been willing to sabotage every legislative effort to help the economy in order to achieve this. And if present trends continue, whichever one gets it—-presumably Romney—will lose to Obama next November.”
Thought this was a rare truth coming from the WSJ and something I agree with. With all the Republican’s efforts to hurt Obama, obstructing everything, what they’ve really done is hurt themselves in the eyes of the voters.

Two young British men have been killed in US drone strikes against suspected militants in Pakistan’s tribal belt, according to reports from the country. The pair, both Muslims from London, are reported to have been killed in separate drone strikes two weeks apart in South Waziristan.
One of the men has been named as Ibrahim Adam, 24, who fled from the UK with his brother four years ago, while both were the subject of control orders. The second is said to be Mohammed Azmer Khan, 38, the brother of another British Muslim, Abdul Jabbar, who was killed in a drone attack last year.

Hey everyone. I’m already missing PBO…i know, I know we recently went on a country to country tour with our dearest Prez courtesy Ms. Chips; the Great….but I guess the past days have made me a bit greedy. I LOVE looking at him live especially when he makes important speeches. The videos and pics are sufficient (thanks to Chips and ALL my TOD family for creating the best Obama hang out spot in history) but ain’t it a treat to view live events. Boy o boy I wish we could follow our wonderful leader everyday as he embarks on his Presidential journey of EIGHT years as leader. I could only imagine how much sacrifice Michelle and the girls are making…..speaking of Michelle, I miss her toooooooooo…so freaking much!!!! I love PBO and FLMO sooooooo much and although I like to fool myself into thinking I love him as much as Miche does and I love her as much as he does (yeah I know..talk about crazy)……I have to be honest, it must be really HARD for both of them to be apart so much and so long(yeah I think that’s a long time). I know PBO is enjoying his visits doing his presidential thing but he must be craving his Sasha and Malia. I will always remember the story of then Senator Obama, breaking down into tears because he hadn’t seen his girls over a long period of time….that’s hard on any good dad yet he does it with grace. I LOVE PBO AND FLOTUS and I know you guys and gals feel the same way!!!! ๐Ÿ˜€

Cheers to the bestestestestestest President and First Lady EVER!!!! ๐Ÿ˜€

Even 20 years ago, Our President was elevating and conscientious. There’s not ONE Teapublican that can come close to his character or integrity. From Newt the Pathological Liar to Booty Call Pizza Brain Cain to Romney the Silver Spooned Buffoon and the rest , President Obama has more character in his favorite cartoon than they ALL have in their entire collective existence.

Intrinsically, as well as realistically and logically, this “competition” on who should be running THIS country at THIS time isn’t even close. It’s like an Impala (Obama) is racing against a bunch of 3 legged turtles with shells too heavy to hold them up…. and the latter is obviously and inherently pathetic.

Now… if we can just make sure they don’t cheat and steal away the 2012 General Election that they KNOW they don’t have a chance in winning with “all things being equal”, everything will be everythang.

A few days ago someone requested a clip of the following comments PM Gillard. Sorry that I don’t remember who it was. But the clip or link is below.

Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard joked druing a state dinner at Parliament House, Canberra that she wanted to make sure Barack Obama was well fed in her country.

“Mr President, I also wanted to say to you we’ve been a little bit nervous about tonight, because my partner Tim really got a talking to from the First Lady when we were in Hawaii. She said to him that you often don’t eat because you are so focused on your work … and she wanted to make sure that we fed you well in Australia. So, the only answer to that was to make sure that you had a hearty meal, and to make sure that there are six to seven hundred witnesses so that Michelle will know that we have been feeding you well while you’re here,” Ms Gillard said.
