Sydney Morning Herald: It was bordering on a bad hair day, but not one for bad shirts.
Standing out from the crowd, the only member of the 21 APEC leaders to opt for colour ahead of default grey, Julia Gillard busily kept her red hair off her face during the forum’s ‘family photo’ that signalled the end of their two-day Hawaiian summit.
But her battle with the sea breeze that played across the group in the grounds of a luxury resort near Honolulu drew friendly support from Barack Obama, who mimicked her by patting his short-cropped pate.
“I have to worry about mine, too,” he joked, prompting mirth from those around him, with the leaders of Malaysia, South Korea and Japan instinctively patting their heads.
….. As they walked dutifully – if a little self-consciously – towards the podium for their photo shoot, Ms Gillard was heard to refer to the grass skirts, with Mr Obama replying that “the coconut bras” were “embarrassing enough”.

SMH: BARACK Obama walked in for the first session of the G20 in Cannes last week, stopped to talk to a few people, and then spied Julia Gillard. The President crossed the room, and the camera captured the warmth. It looked so much better than Kevin Rudd saluting George Bush at NATO in 2008.
…. They have struck up a rapport. In the Oval Office she gave him a Sherrin. Their visit to a Washington school went so well that the White House proposed they repeat the publicity moment in Canberra. Obama has described her as a “quick study”. He would admire, even envy, that she has got her carbon price through Parliament, because he would like to legislate a cap-and-trade scheme, but is stymied by the American political system.
US ambassador Jeff Bleich says there is “a great deal of agreement between the two of them – they tend to see the world the same way”. He points to their substantive policy agreement, the way they interact, their similar sense of humour.

SMH: ALMOST three quarters of Australian voters are happy with the US alliance, a far cry from the peak of the Iraq war.
With the US President, Barack Obama, to arrive in Australia tomorrow for a 26-hour visit, the latest Herald/Nielsen poll shows 71 per cent of voters feel the relationship is “about right”. Only 24 per cent feel it is too close, while just 3 per cent say it is “not close enough”.
…. The Herald last asked the question in a poll in June 2004, when the Iraq war was at its peak and the relationship between the then leaders, John Howard and George Bush, was a close one…. The poll then found 46 per cent felt the relationship was too close and 47 per cent felt it was about right. Like the current poll, 3 per cent felt it was not close enough.

WHAT IS A FILIBUSTER?? THE AMERICAN PEOPLE NEED TO KNOW.
The American people need a lesson on the filibuster 101 and how the Republican Party has used it to render our government dysfunctional. This elusive term needs to be explained in simple terms so that a fifth grader gets it. When the American people understand the filibuster, they will understand why President Obama’s domestic agenda has been completely stalled since the Republicans took the majority in the House of Representatives. They will understand that elections have consequences. Remember, President Obama has had a successful foreign policy agenda because the Republican Party was not able to filibuster his executive actions. The American people can’t get this light bulb moment soon enough. It’s crucial.
DEMOCRATS’ ANSWER ON THE ECONOMY
====================================
The Obama team, of course, will continue to emphasize that Republicans are blocking Obama jobs creation policies that the American people support, and they will perhaps amplify the charge that Republicans are deliberately trying to tank the recovery in order to take back the White House. But it’s still unclear whether voters not schooled in the realities of filibuster abuse and Senate procedure will care why Obama’s policies aren’t getting passed or why government isn’t acting to fix the crisis.

Hello everyone, I’d like for you to check out this link, It was sent to me, and I thought It worth sharing. It’s a winner 🙂 Check It Out….http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nw
Check the link, I’m getting an error.
Me too……error.
Okey dokey, let me try again.
Kindness is catching. How cool is that? Very sweet. Thanks for sharing luci.
You’re welcome 🙂
luci1119, that was by far the most beautiful video I have ever seen on YouTube. I’m going to favorite this. Thank you so much. Kindness really is catching.
Oh luci1119. i luv that. What goes around, comes around. BEATIFUL.
Check out the above video,”Kindness Boomerang” It’s nice. 🙂

America – It’s simple. Republican Senators have used a procedure – filibuster – to DENY YOU JOBS & more. Read this – http://bit.ly/sihOps VOTE & VOTE Democratic in 2012; Elections do have consequences.
#PRESSON
Thanks for this as well, Bobfr. Passed it on.HZ
Just a thought but is there anyone who can put facts together for a YouTube video that shows what the filibuster is, what its original purpose was, how it was utilized in the past, and the number of times it’s been abused by the Republicans during President Obama’s time in office– effectively blocking economic progress and preventing relief for millions of Americans who are suffering. The video could also serve as a campaign ad that the pragmatic blogs could feature, thereby helping it to go viral….
I sent a note to the White House, I really think someone should be able to produce a video to explain the filibuster. It just makes sens to me. thanks for your feedback creolechild.
The article I linked says Michelle is going to Australia – but I read before that she’s not. Anyone know??
Vogue Australia is expecting her… “The most fashionable figure in politics, American First Lady Michelle Obama is set to visit Australia”.
here is the link Chips: http://www.vogue.com.au/fashion/vogue+loves/style+icon+michelle+obama+comes+to+australia,15163
Thanks CT, now I’m completely confused – definitely read last week that she wasn’t going to Australia???
Here’s a story from Australia—-that Obama’s limo has been delivered—-and all the preparations that are being made for President Obama’s visit, his schedule etc., no mention of FLOTUS.
http://www.news.com.au/national/obamamobile-arrives-in-canberra-for-the-us-president-barack-obama/story-e6frfkvr-1226194110217
and here’s another full report of his visit with only PBO mentioned in the schedule:
http://www.nzherald.co.nz/world/news/article.cfm?c_id=2&objectid=10766075
So we don’t know if FLOTUS will be joining POTUS in Australia. I guess we will have to wait and see. If she does, I hope they have a safe trip to Australia. If not I hope he has a safe trip there and FLOTUS have a safe trip home
I wonder if FLOTUS left last night or earlier this morning to go back to Washington, since I’m sure she would have gone with POTUS to the fundraiser, if she was there. Just my two cents.
Well I did learn Michelle and the girls will be coming back to Hawaii for Christmas, and if Congress does it’s work, the President will be coming too. Hay Congress get off your do nothing ass and do your job.
Question for you all. I shared a link today with a friend who is constantly trying to educate and inform a co-worker and also her son. The link was from The New Republic. Her question for me–and me for you all: Is TNR fairly “mainstream” or is it what some would consider “far left”? She would feel much more comfortable sharing things from there if it isn’t “far left”. What do you all know about the writers? Any info you can give me that I can share with her, we both will appreciate.
What is TNR?
The New Republic.
Oh never mind..It’s right in your comment! 🙂
TNR is far from being far left. There are some good liberal writers/bloggers like Jonathan Cohn
and Jonathan Chait (the only two that I read). Then you have someone like Martin Paretz (the owner) who hates President Obama and is one of the Israel first crowd. He constantly sides with Netanyahu against his own president. So, you can say to your friend, TNR is centre right on most issues and far right on the Mideast with a sprinkle of liberalism.
Its not far left. In fact the far left doesn’t like TNR. They think its centrist w/ too many conservative voices like Marty Peretz (He is a despicable person so avoid his articles). I go there regularly to see what Jonathan Cohn has to say but that’s about it. A couple of the writers are new but they are not far left.
Tnmtngirl:
I always try to read Jonathan Cohn at TNR. He is fairly consistent with his pro- Obama articles. But
i would characterize the magazine as factual, neither far-right or far-left. At least two of today’s articles are leaning pro-Obama. If your friend views any positive article about PBO as far-left, then she might not like Jonathan Cohn. But I don’t see him as far left, just sensible.
Today’s articles might give you a better sense or what TNR is about.
Best I can do.
Hope this helps.
Thanks loads to all of you who answered. It will help. I see the consensus is Jonathan Cohn is the main one to trust. My friend doesn’t want to refer the folks she’s trying to educate/inform to something that they will see as “far left”……she would prefer a more centrist view if she’s going to refer them. My friend is a big Obama supporter. She is an attorney in northern VA…..a very intelligent and thoughtful person……says she has always seen PO as a moderate and someone who wants to get things done and move the country forward.
Thanks again family. 🙂
@tnmtngirl,
I need to clarify my earlier post about TNR. The only person I read there is Jonathan Cohn. When I thought about why, I realized that he seems to stand-out as a progressive journalist. So far I have found him fair and factual. Not to say he is the only one, but I do not get the sense that TNR as a whole is necessarily progressive. It is definitely not far-left. And upon reflection I recall trying to read other writers and realized that Cohn’s articles resonate with me most. The others, not so much.
Thanks. will pass all this info on to my friend.

Wow. Ummmm, let’s see—-uh Libya—-is that the one with Gadhafi?
Reminded me of when someone who was unprepared was called on in 9th grade and tried to punt his way through an answer, embarrassingly, and everyone would start giggling.

Oh good grief …… you know, these clowns are beginning to make the half-termer seem smart.
Almost like a Rhodes Scholar, Chips!! Hell and that is making giving Oxford a bad name, not to mention disgracing Mr. Rhodes. Lord, have mercy. Send these clowns out of town for good.HZ
Pardon me, dear ice cream, but they’re all Tutti Frutti!

LOL video of Bachman “Bad Lip Reading”
So the Repubs are disembarking the Cain Train and are onto the Newter Scooter…
They just cannot make up their minds…now can they!
🙂 🙂
HAW!!!!!!!!!!!
Hey Donna, they are running out of flavors. I guess Santorum will be next. In the meantime, I am sure the DNC is banking a lot of ads. 🙂
It means that they still very unhappy with the field they’re stuck with. They are looking for their Republican “Obama” but can’t seem to find him.
And Donna dem 4 obama and meta, after reading the gossip interview last night given by Newt’s first wife, Newt needs to go sit his behind down and shut up forever.HZ
twitter is totally freaking out right now. Thank goodness they just told us all that they are having issues because I was beginning to think I was in twitter jail.
It is getting on my nerves. I was trying to send a DM from my e-mail and it kept saying “over capacity” but yet in another window twitter was rolling along just fine.
It’s now showing me with 0 followers and 0 follows. OMG, I hope they can reinstate all that or I’m screwed.
It totally wiped me off the face of the earth a few days ago. Just poof. Was getting weird messages asking if I was human etc. Had to re-register and start all over.
I cannot even log into Twitter. It says it has reached capacity.
This article had me cackling:
http://www.statesman.com/opinion/insight/dissension-at-the-club-1965269.html?cxtype=rss_ece_frontpage
Very funny 🙂
I’m glad Karl Rove is being treated as he so richly deserves. Hopefully, more to come!
That was great…..thanks for sharing
Lines that just simply had me almost spitting coffee on my keyboard:
“We did not pay him an honorarium.” [Well, I say, pay the man an honorarium so people can be free to spit, hiss, and boo!]
“Rather than having a dinner and listening to a speaker we can just have a food fight. But since we are all so intelligent and sophisticated, the food would have to be a proper blend of meat, starch and green.” [Pass the broccoli and peas, please!]
🙂 Oh Bless!
Cain on Libya:
Only 72 views. Why isn’t this double-talking trainwreck viral?
That was painful!
OMG, I have to go to my medicine cabinet and take 2 aleves. My head is killing me after watching this. As a matter of fact, my whole body hurts, watching him twist himself into a pretzel. 🙂
LOLz.
I’m with you COS. All I could hear in my head was POP….BOOM….FIZZ… My goodness he has no clue who the opposition was in Libya? Libya??!!!!! Libya was one of the biggest international stories of 2011 and he knows nothing! Absolutely nothing. Herman Cain is a dullard. He’s 100% a dullard! This level of ignorance is abhorent in one running for the highest office in the land. Sheesh!
This is what happens when you have nothing but right-wing talking points “stirring around” in your head. I think any one of us who had such a dismal performance in a job interview would know instinctively we weren’t gonna get the job.
He has got to be acting! This is too ‘thick’. “I have to know the opposition….I can’t say yes or no…yada..yada. This is just too artificail, right down to the dramatic pause near the beginning. Phony. As you pointed out UTALib, ‘Libya was one of the biggest international stories of 2011 and he knows nothing! Absolutely nothing.’ There is no way he could be so out of it – didn’t he have a radio show?
Serious left the dust arount that man long ago! Aquifina, take your bottle cap & roll far away from that table! Aquifina needs rescue! 😉
“around” sorry!
FACE IT TEA PARTY REPUBLICANS, YOU’VE BEEN PUNKED. THIS VIDEO SHOULD CONFIRM THAT ONCE AND FOR ALL.
My feeling too, LH. It strikes me that this is a game to him.
Yea it should come on TOD people this has to be viral? my grand kidds know more about LYbia
than this man.
😆 😆 😆 😆 this man is stupid!!!!! What a joke!!!!
OMG that could’ve been a badlipreading skitz. Seriously this belong with the ‘Perry Opps’, The Az Gov blank stare into the headlights and Sarah the Quitter’s…well there is just so many of Sarah’s to choose from that I won’t go there.
This guy is a baffoon. With all due respect to baffoons!
oops, forgot to say :: evening all 😆
I want to see more pictures of that wondeful, colorful, very striking and fun – looking dress our lovely FLOTUS was wearing at the end of this piece!
Here you go Daisy:
http://theobamadiary.com/2011/11/13/hawaii-hosts/
Can someone tell me if that was President Obama’s sister, Maya Soetoro-Ng, seated at the end of the spouses table in photo 11?
Fancieful, It certainly looks like her.
yes that is Maya. we commented about her on a prior post yesterday. Maya is seated next to the First Lady of Indonesia and she is at the end of the table
HERMAN CAIN IS A TOTAL FRAUD:
http://www.jsonline.com/multimedia/video/?bcpid=13960334001&bctid=1275195602001
This is THE END of his campaign.
Ha! We’re on the same page. This is way more painful than Perry’s oops.
Thanks for embedding the YouTube!
Wow that was as painful to watch as the Perry brainfreeze.
His blinking is out of control as he blathers on and on a bunch of jumbled nonsense.
I’ve noticed that blinks quite a bit in other videos and his live performances. Its a clear indication that he is lying.
Ah this is going viral. When I went on youtube twenty minutes ago it was at 72 views. Now its at 306. I have seen this video referenced in at least three different sites.
Yep the secret is out. The con-artist has being exposed. Oh well he would have been so much fun to run against. Maybe someone will put him on the ticket as VP and we’ll get to see our Joe debate him on foreign policy. Well a girl can dream can’t she? 🙂
Oh – that would be priceless! Joe would mop the floor with him, and then run circles around him. And because Cain thinks he’s “all that”, Joe wouldn’t have to tip-toe around him like he had to do with Palin. He could just slaughter him openly. That would be beautiful. Although, I think Joe will get the chance to do that to whomever ends up being the VP contender. Apparently, VP Biden is the most knowledgeable foreign policy wonk.
THIS!!!
And he even thinks he can be DEFENSE SECRETARY?!!! What a total idiot. A disgrace to the notion of running for President of this country.
No, please let him keep pulling the wool over the Republican base eyes.
Now TOD family we need to put this video away until after he wins the nomination. 🙂
OMG, it would be like a feature length Gladiator to watch a debate, wouldn’t it? I would PAY good money to see it.
You can just about hear the reporters squirming and grimacing in their seats as they wait for Cain to turn the wheels in his addled brain.
He says he would be deliberative when it came to Libya. That’s illegal when you’re a Republican these days. They call that “dithering” and leading from behind.
His brain process is basically: Obama bad. Roam the catacombs of my memory for talking point. Vamp until I can remember how mesh the talking point with my manly, decisive, folksy schtick.
You totally NAILED IT.
FiredUpInCA, I thought of that word that the ugly one used in an interview about POB “dithering”. remember that one? Well, probably all of that “evil” running around in his head denied his brains to function with common sense let alone intelligent commets. These people are plain ole evillllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll!!!!!HZ
Thank God, we have something better to look forward to coming up in 2012. Lord, please have mercy on us. This is a mess!!!!!!!HZ
Notice- everytime the President connects with World leaders of ordinary Americans, the MSM recycles that old line- Obsma does not know how to connect– nonsense.
But, they do it everytime!
Didn’t you know? The Honeymoon is over!
The honeymoon was over Jan 20, 2009!
Okay listen, regarding the 45 minute video of The President speaking in an interview at APEC: to anyone of those critics out there who love to claim that our President is merely a good “performer or speeches”, look at him answering questions off the cuff for 45 mintues! Please! No notes, no teleprompter….the man is very intelligent, eloquent and informed. George Bush could never do this…he could barely string a comprehensible sentence together! And all of the candidates on the right can’t speak for 30 seconds at a debate without sticking their foot in their mouth.
I absolutely loved that Q&A session, and sent it via twitter, Facebook and email. It’s one of the best examples of respectfully asked questions (and many difficult ones), perfect answers and presidential acumen. President Obama is involved in all aspects of his administration, and he’s calling the shots. When the Boeing CEO praised Sec. Clinton, it was genuine praise – not a back-handed insult, and President Obama acknowledged her good work.
That question and answer session with Boeing CEO James McNerney was refreshing to watch. PBO was on point on every single question. He knows his administration and his policies like the back of his hand. No matter what lies the media try to spout about him being a teleprompter President; it’s all hogwash when one watches interview after interview after interview and sees how masterful and gosh darned brilliant PBO is.
Hi UT. You are so correct. POB will always make the MSM look like the big disgusting, jealous, and evil people that they will always be. POB will win again in 2012, and will always make them look as incompetent as they are daily. So this is going to be a beautiful journey, and we will be rewarded by enjoying each moment of his great Presidency. They do not know how to appreciate his brilliant mind, nor do they appreciate his brilliant use of this great mind.
However, we do, and we will show him that we do by working our behinds off for him. We Have To Have His Back. That is the choice for us!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And anyone who appreciates such a great gift that we have in our 44th President., Barack Obama.HZ
Anyone who pays even the slightest bit attention knows President Obama does this daily. Of course there were the times where he stood up in front of all the Congressional Repubs and took questions from them one by one, and he completely embarrassed the whole lot of ’em, like this time:
The whole series of clips are amazing by the way. Love how he keeps calling Jeb “Jim.” Has there ever been a time in modern history of a US President taking questions from the opposition party in a completely unscripted manner? I can’t think of any, and President Obama completely destroyed them while doing it. The whole “teleprompter” nonsense is one of the favorite Repub tactics of taking down your opponent’s strengths. I hope President Obama does more of these Q&As where Repubs are the questioners, and that they talk about Jobs this time. Should wrap up the election for Democrats in general, I think.
I think this was the first and last time the GOP will ever let something like this happen to them. They were completely destroyed. This moment was when President Obama let the GOP see exactly who they were dealing with, and the best part is when they tried to make him leave by pretending that they’d taken too much of his time, and he smiled, took a sip of water and said “oh, no, I’m having a wonderful time”…
That was my FAVORITE part. . . My President was having such a great time at the GOP’s expense.
The other video that needs to be watch was Rachael Maddow’s show that evening. She was so impressed with the President that, I think, she did a half hour segment on it. I was smiling throughout the entire show.
Love my President!!
brava!! nothing to add to your post.
Report from the UK about Larry the 10 Downing Street cat.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-15717341
My favorite part (of course) is:
“…the Prime Minister said that although upon his arrival in February, Larry was “‘not very keen on men,’ he had made an exception in May when he was happy to be stroked by US President Barack Obama.”
So it’s not just babies that like the President.
I’m sure others have noticed, but President Obama is the first President I’ve seen who, when handed a baby, knows what to do with it. He never looks uncomfortable or imposed upon. He seems to actually LIKE it. He even seeks out the littlest ones.
Awww – what a sweet post. President Obama seemed a bit wary of that cat in London, but the cat seemed honoured.
I also like that he always takes a minute to pet any doggy that shows up at any of his appearances. I’ve seen it often, but I’m thinking of the old shop doggie at one of his impromptu stops at a candy store in Iowa during his bus trip. He gave that doggie a couple pats, doggie wagged tail. Nice doggie. Nice, kind president.
Dotster3, you notice that as well. He is just great. His spirit and inner core is so in line with the goodness of his living a beautiful life that goodness gravitates to his spirit. It is like the” better angel “just always there within him and other ‘better angels “find him no matter where he is. I love my President, and I know that he loves us.
We are so blessed. I cry so hard at times just thinking how hard we are going to be working (already working) in the next 11 months because we have to get him reelected. We have to. This will be a very sad world to live in without his leadership. Please dear God give us favor in all that we do with grace and love, respect, and honesty to get him reelected. Amen.HZ
One of our vendors just came in ( A hispanic American citizen )…he saw Cain on my TV and said.
” He wants to electrocute Mexicans “
I laughed at first, because your post was so unexpected. But, then I sobered up pretty quickly, because – sadly – this is true. Cain does want to electrocute Mexicans, and he’s made bigoted statements about Muslims, too.
Well….we know Cain pretty well here in Georgia.
People are listening and watching us, and this is what angers me when I see all of the stupid and hateful things being said by these people who are running for President, and the MSM is just sitting around with their sloppy selves bashing our President while allowing these clowns say such evil stuff and , I believe that the really do mean this you know what.HZ
Folks are paying attention 🙂
Linda, I anit sying shit!
That was not fair Linda, I am not “Mexican”.
Your anecdote is chilling. People who are the targets of this bigotry know exactly what these fools mean when they say these incredibly inhuman and stupid things.
Yes, they do, Meta. You are so right. It pains me so much but like I stated last evening when the King Karma visit, it will be a moment to reconcile with their ugly deeds.HZ
I am tickled by Pres. Obama’s reference to coconut bras in that exchange with Prime Minister Gillard. Very funny. 😆
Robert Wexler slams the GOP mopefuls for their stance on Isreal-

Wexler has always been loyal to this President!
*mopefuls*
Love it.
Thanks for this, Jovie. Yes, Wexler has always been supported of POB. Thanks again, Jovie.HZ
The msm is ignoring anything bad about Romney, what I think is going on is, mittens has so much shit in his past, that he is releasing oppo research periodically on other candidates, to get focus off of him- look what mittens did here—
On the day Mitt Romney announced the support of social conservatives, the Republican blogosphere buzzed with reports about how a state agency under the former Massachusetts governor tried to pull the plug on a brain-damaged girl who ultimately came out of a coma.
The report about Haleigh Poutre surfaced on The Shark Tank blog in a sign that conservatives — and especially social conservatives — aren’t comfortable with the Republican presidential frontrunner.
http://m.miamiherald.com/mh/db_42928/contentdetail.htm?contentguid=kGAzhc1j
In the GE this all will come out!
Are these the same social conservatives that, during a recent repub debate, cheered the idea of letting an uninsured man die in a hospital if he didn’t buy his own damn insurance?
Ha! Anyone want to guess why????
SO COOL!!
Wonderful!
Omggggggghhh PBO is a star when it comes to ratings.
And espn knows it, they canned Hank Williams for messing with this President.
Yup, Yup!
Even my Family was surprised when I told them that I was going to watch basketball on ESPN. 😆 PBO can do wonders.
Ha that is so wonderful, its the first Basketball game I’ve watched in many years too… and of course POTUS and the venue were the big draws.. and I must add that ESPN’s total respect for both POTUS, FLOTUS and our military was exceptional.
Sherijr, that was the first thing that came to my mind. The planning of this event was so awesome for our servicemen and servicewomen , and all veterans on 11/11/11 was just historically beautiful. Seeing him there as our wonderful CIC on this ship made me so proud to be a person who helped him become our 44th President.
I bet you anything that all who were in attendance on that ship will remember that evening, and those of us who were watching at home will certainly do the same. It was awesome. Plus that ship has so much history. The Congressman, who the ship was name after has so much histofy behind him as well.
It was a beautiful night for ESPN and all who love their CIC and our lovely First Lady. Thank you, Mr. President and to all of our Veterans, Thank you all so very much for all that you sacrifice for all of us. A moment in history to remember and be so grateful for in our country.HZ
No wonder Politico has been having a major sad lately…
Yay! Obama stimulus at work once again.
suuweet! -now that this is out, expect the spin in 4..3..2..
Share this with friends, if you so desire. Someone asked who are the businesses that are committed to helping our veterans find jobs. Read and share.
http://www.whitehouse.gov/joiningforces/commitments
I hope it comes through.HZ
Excellent HZ. I will share this with friends and family!
Thanks Donna. This is when I call it,”Having his back.” We spread his good hard work. And we must push back and tell our family and friends how POB keeps his words to us. Listen when he speaks is what I always tell my friends and family.HZ
This administration is so awesome. We have to give them the Congress to work with. Can you imagine how far this country would have been if it was not to the NO good Congress??
Oh, Martz!!!! You nailed it. I often think the same thing. But we will give him a Congress to work with in this coming elections. We have to do it. I am praying that we will be able to deliever for him. We will stand together within our TOD family and move out amongst the entire nation and get it done.HZ
The U.S. and Dominican Republic have signed an agreement to share millions of dollars in forfeited assets from a major Medicare fraud scheme.
Attorney General Eric Holder said Monday the two countries will share $7.5 million initially and could divide up to $30 million more in seized assets. The assets in the Dominican Republic include 20 real estate properties such as a water park, motel complexes and waterfront condominiums.
The fraud case in Miami involves brothers Carlos, Luis and Jose Benitez. They are accused of conspiring to defraud Medicare out of $80 million. The brothers were declared fugitives in 2008 and are believed by prosecutors to be in Cuba.
Holder is also visiting Trinidad and Tobago and Barbados in the Caribbean this week.
Holder is on the ball. He was such an excellent pick.
Holder’s parents are from Barbados – so he must have some relatives there 🙂
Wow, Holder will be in Trinidad? Nice one. I shall pay attention.
Yes, AG Holder is doing a great job, even though Sen. Lindsey Graham is trying to always get on his case when he comes before his committee, but AG Holder looked them straight in the eye, and give him hell. He is a very smart man and a great AG for this Administration. Keep him in your prayers, thoughts, and meditations.
The DOJ has so much that they are cleaning up from the last Administration. Plus the DOJ still need many positions filled. Please go to the DOJ website and see the great things that they are doing. You can also sign up for e mailing notification of news etc. It keeps you up to date on what he is doing within the DOJ.
Also please help the DOJ and the Administration by contacting your Senators and Reps. along with Chairman Leahy, Chairman of the Judiciary Committee to ask for the President’s nominees to get through the committee and on to the Senate to get a vote of confirmation. This is important because so many courts are without judges on the federal level. Important for justice to be carried out on these federal benches. Thanks so much. This is so dear to my heart.HZ
Sorry if this has already been posted, but another “Oops” moment – this time from Herb Cain:
http://2012.talkingpointsmemo.com/2011/11/cain-chokes-on-libya-question-got-all-this-stuff-twirling-around-in-my-head.php
Just had my own “Oops” moment, since I see as I read upthread that it’s already being discussed!
Oops.
WASHINGTON–Chelsea Clinton will start reporting for NBC News, the New York Times is reporting in a Monday story.
The daughter of former President Bill Clinton and Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton has been increasing her profile in the last year. While the big story on Chelsea in 2010 was her marriage, in 2011 she had been making appearences on behalf of her father’s Clinton Global Initiative.
Chelsea is the third child of a former president on NBC/MSNBC. Jenna Bush Hager, the daughter of former President George W. Bush reports features for NBC’s “The Today Show” and Ron Reagan, the son of former President Ronald Reagan, appears as an analyst on MSNBC.
Uh huh, uh huh!
Meagan McCain was also hired at MSNBC
I know Chelsea is a smart girl but this stings of nepotism.
TOPICAL AND TROPICAL: The pool reports that President Obama, at a fundraiser in Hawaii, didn’t refer explicitly to the news that Supreme Court will review his health care law — but that he might have alluded to it.
“Everything that we fought for in the last election is now at stake in this election,” Obama said, according to the pool.
Obama also mentioned the GOP candidates for president again. “To their credit, they are not hiding. Watch these debates,” he said.
He also talked about visiting his grandma who passed away shortly before the 2008 presidential election.
“It was only a couple of years ago when I was here watching my grandmother fade away,” he said. “She had the kind of retirement that a lot of people don’t have these days, but knowing that Medicare was there for her made all the difference in the world.”
“It was only a couple of years ago when I was here watching my grandmother fade away,” he said. “She had the kind of retirement that a lot of people don’t have these days, but knowing that Medicare was there for her made all the difference in the world.”
THIS!!!
I predict will be a powerful message in his stump speech when he gets on the campaign trail.
Herman Cain on Occupy Wall Street and poverty issues
“Did Wall Street and the banks have something to do with the meltdown of 2008? Yes. But they are not the culprit to (sic) the wealth gap. They’re not the culprit. [It’s the] failed policies of this administration.”
He says the reason there’s a wealth gap is because of the high unemployment rate. So wouldn’t that make Wall Street the source of the wealth gap since they’re not hiring, in addition to having caused the meltdown that triggered massive layoffs and slow growth globally?
I don’t understand his logic.
Oops! The Libya trainwreck video wasn’t supposed to be in this comment.
I think its quite appropriate. Somethings happen for a reason FiredUp 🙂
“I don’t understand his logic.” because it is illogical
Ruh Oh…Someone call Politico: EMERGENCYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY Meeting TONIGHT.
For the first time in nearly two-and-a-half years, Democrats and Republicans are tied on the Generic Congressional Ballot for the week ending Sunday, November 13.
A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 41% of Likely U.S. Voters would vote for the Republican in their district’s congressional race if the election was held now, while the identical number (41%) would choose the Democrat instead.

Herman Cain says it was not Herman Cain’s fault that his viral video about how Herman Cain would respondi in Libya sucked so profoundly : rolleyes :
Herman Cain stumbles badly on Libya question
“Cain’s campaign told CBS News that the video is being taken out of context, and that Cain was answering 30 or 40 minutes pf questions in a sleep-deprived state. The campaign said Cain simply took a while to recall the issue, and did not say anything that is inaccurate.
Cain’s comments come in the wake of a CBS News/National Journal debate on foreign policy Saturday in which Cain avoided major gaffes but offered vague answers when pressed on foreign policy questions. The former Godfather’s Pizza CEO, who has no foreign policy experience, was asked in that debate to describe his take on the Arab spring.
“What’s happening in the Arab Spring, you have to look at Libya, Egypt, Yemen, and all of the revolutions that are going on, and how this administration has mishandled them,” Cain said. “As a result, they have gotten totally out of hand. Our relationship with Egypt may not survive. Because when this president backed the opposition, it turned out that opposition was more of the Muslim Brotherhood, which could end up with a majority of control of this new government. This president has already said that the president of Yemen should go. He is our friend. He has been helping us to fight al Qaeda. This president has been on the wrong side in nearly every situation in the Arab world, which has basically done nothing except to put that entire thing at risk.”

Attempt 2 to show my contempt by way of a smiley: 🙄
Hiya Fired Up. It’s actually. : roll : put it all together and you get 🙄
As for Cain whining that he was answering 30-40 mins of questions on only 4 hours of sleep; well welcome to the real world Black Walnut. PBO flew to Hawaii, his sleep clock was all out of whack, and he still brilliantly answered every question posed by Boeing CEO James McNerney for over 45 minutes at the APEC conference. Cry me a freaking river Herb. You answered the questions in a dumb manner. Blame Yourself!
We were on the same wavelength, UT – my version below.
Thanks Utaustinliberal! I’ll try again.
🙄
YAY! Thanks UT.
🙄
🙂 Thanks, I need that!
Hey, at least he said he didn’t support Gadhafi killing his own people! That’s something! That interview may be the worst I’ve ever seen for a presidential candidate. Total humiliation. Cain is not Able.
HERMAN CAIN’S “KATIE COURIC” INTERVIEW
Well, I have been anxiously awaiting Herman Cain’s “Katie Couric” interview. This is it. Actual questions with followups challenging his responses. What a concept. Herman Cain was incoherent and his body language didn’t help. There was …………
– licking of the lips
– fidgeting in his chair
– lots of hand movements
– looking up at the ceiling
– straightening of his tie
– blinking rapidly
– halting speech
– adjusting of the water bottle
It’s actually worse that they think this was ok and that he “did not say anything that is inaccurate”. The fact that he opposed President Obama’s actions simply as a knee-jerk reaction? The fact that he didn’t even really know what the points were on Libya, and that he was trying to get hints from the reporters? The fact that he dramatically had to take a sip of water because he was in a quandary? Or how about the fact that he ended up admitting that he didn’t actually know what he was talking about because he had no idea what position President Obama had taken, and couldn’t bring up a single fact about the whole situation?
Maybe Cain needs to see how President Obama operates with minimal sleep. Look and see how he gets on a plane after a full day’s work, flies around the world, and sprints down the steps and directly into complex meetings – where he’s expected to lead! And that the matters President Obama deals with are actually matters of life and death. Take, for example, his awesome Q&A this weekend with the Boeing CEO – that should be required viewing for anyone thinking that they can come up against President Obama and win. He’s the President of the United States, and it shows.
Very well said Theo67. You covered the substantive problems with his response. I also think he did damage to his image and his brand. He has tried to present himself as the shoot from the lip cowboy willing to say what nobody else has the cojones to say about the President or the media.
In this performance he came off as wishy-washy as Mitt Romney and as brain-frozen as Perry. Then he ended up agreeing with much of the President’s approach–the deliberative process, the stance against Quaddafi’s slaughter threat.
It further erodes his image and numbers. His base will move on to the next shiny and damaged GOP candidate.
Question: Why does this man always refer to himself in the third person?!!
(Reuters) – The European debt crisis is raising the odds of a U.S. recession, with economic contraction more likely than not by early 2012, according to research from the San Francisco Federal Reserve Bank.
TELL THOSE IDIOTS TO GET THEIR HOUSE IN ORDER!! IF THEY HAD LISTENED TO GEITHNER AND PBO INSTEAD OF EMBRACING AUSTERITY THEY WOULDNT BE HAVING THIS BIG A PROBLEM.
NOTICE, THEY EMBRACED RETHUG IDEAS TO COMBAT THE CRISIS WHILE PBO DID MASSIVE FISCAL STIMULUS
Who do you think Mahr is referring to as apes. He is going to far. Let me know what u think of this article. http://www.mediaite.com/tv/bill-maher-jokes-mitt-romney-is-all-that-stands-between-us-and-the-rise-of-the-apes/
I don’t even want to go there.
What do I think? I think you and anyone here should ignore that dolt, and 98% of all the MegaMedia, at all times.
I don’t care for his humor at all…..
They keep putting his stupid face in front of the cameras (book or no book) in the hope that he will say something controversial and he never disappoints them. Now they can run with this for a day or two.
Bill Maher is a ridiculous no nothing but that’s just my humble opinion and reading the comment in full context seems that he was talking about the entire crazy Republican party not singling out Cain as an ape but I could be wrong.
Agree that’s what he meant—-saying Romney at least eats with a knife and fork, meaning the others don’t know enough to do the same.
Maher was most likely referring to the rest of the Repubs – however his choice of word was designed to get attention because he’s not stupid and knows that some folks would probably think it was directed at Cain. Maher is a pathetic attention-seeker. His a very little man.
It was reported earlier that PBO got emotional today at his fundraiser when talking about his grandmother:
“And, by the way, I speak as somebody who it was only a couple of years ago when I was here watching my grandmother fade away. And she had had a successful career at Bank of Hawaii. She had the kind of retirement that a lot of people don’t have these days. But knowing that Medicare was there for her made all the difference in the world. This is not an abstraction. Everybody here has a family member who knows how important that is. ”
Here’s the whole transcript of his remarks:

Uh oh. We’re in trouble now. I heard the Repubs are considering hiring this new guy to court the female vote, and given that he’s quite the ladies man, we might be in trouble. Here he is discussing his approach:

He see the writing on the wall…
All I have to say is “THANK YOU ELIZABETH WARREN”.
😯 but too late. Bye bye Scott brown
Right there with you Me4O. Too bad so sad for Scott Brown. I hope Elizabeth Warren wins the Dem primary and knocks this smug jerk off his perch.
Wow, it appears that Me. Brownn is seeing the writing on the wall. I think his days are over. He had his chance. Olympia Snow and the other Sen. Susan Collins should also take note.
I guess he saw the picture of all of those volunteers for Elizabeth Warren. Wall Street’s fair haired boy must be shaking in his boots. He said he was going to be independent but he has been in lock step with Mitch McConnell. What a coward. Where has the courage of his convictions been all this time. It’s amazing what a bit of competition can do. It really focuses the mind.
Too late. He should have said something when Warren was up for her nomination. He wouldn’t be in this predicament now. Dummy.
awww, running scared are we?
Heard there is some complaint from the Far Right that the President is away from DC when there is so much going on. The House today is spending time naming Post Offices.
Ironic considering they want to do away with the USPS.
This is a lot better—
A new CNN poll on the issue of health care reform finds that support for the law’s central and most controversial element, the individual health insurance mandate, has climbed into majority territory.
In the new poll, support for the individual mandate — requiring people to get health insurance — has climbed to 52%, with 47% opposed. When the last survey was taken in June, that a majority of 54% opposed it, with 44% in support.
“The health insurance mandate has gained most support since June among older Americans and among lower-income Americans,” writes CNN Polling Director Keating Holland. “A majority of independents opposed the measure in June, but 52 percent of them now favor it.”
The poll of American adults was conducted from November 11-13 — before Monday’s big news that the Supreme Court will hear a challenge to the law — and has a ±3% margin of error.
NYT:
“For the nation’s health care system, there may be no going back.
No matter what the Supreme Court decides about the constitutionality of the federal law adopted last year, health care in America has changed in ways that will not be easily undone. Provisions already put in place, like tougher oversight of health insurers, the expansion of coverage to one million young adults and more protections for workers with pre-existing conditions are already well-cemented and popular.
…even though critics say the law does little to reduce the costs of care, its passage touched off myriad efforts to pare widespread waste.
“The interest from the doctor and hospital community has accelerated,” Tom Richards, a senior executive at Cigna, said of efforts to exact savings and improve care…
The new rules appear to have had some effect, with some insurers deciding to hold down premiums to avoid being forced to refund money or justify higher rates.”
http://www.nytimes.com/2011/11/15/health/policy/health-care-is-changing-despite-federal-uncertainty.html
And to think some folks thought President Obama was doing too much. and should have postponed dealing with healthcare reform.
They just continue to underestimate him..
Yeah, ‘some folks’ like the media, republicans and ‘professional’ left
Mr. Flip Flopper?
Wonder why it’s ok for HIM to have excuses about everything, and the rest of us have to BLAME OURSELVES???? His 15 minutes is over.
Oh Bless! You mean they cut out more of his fidgets and water sipping and just showed his “Cain’t do It”? Oh for shame! 🙂
Should’ve been taking place in a padded cell. To late Cain. to paraphrase from upthread, ‘you’re just not Abel’
Lawrence show may be good tonight!
Who cares?!? Non-issue. MegaMedia-designed bright, shiny object. They’ll just keep stretching it along as long as they possibly can. “John Mc”Cain is not a serious candidate for anything other than a propagandist job at Pox Newz, and any bit of attention he gets now helps in that goal.
Meanwhile, can you believe the crowds Elizabeth Warren is getting and how freaking incredible our First Family is? We’ve got to get back the House next year. We must do this. The time to act is now. Fired up?
you are on a roll bonkers. Your post practically echos my sentiments.
From the Ed show—-Sandusky gave interview with Bob Costas, said he is not a pedophile, only took showers, hugged, horsed around, touched legs. Problem— there is eye-witness testimony. Mike McQueary now saying he stopped the sexual assault on young boy in shower. That info was not included in Grand Jury report. Lots of pre-legal maneuverings going on. What a mess—-and tragedy—-the whole thing. I bet there are going to be 400 books written about this case—-college sports scandal of the century.
Ughh, just ughh! I get that it’s a news story, but let’s jut be a “defense attorney” for a mintue, why would giving an interview be a good idea???
Jerry Sandusky to Bob Costas in exclusive ‘Rock Center’ interview: “I shouldn’t have showered with those kids.”
I am listening to him now on The Ed Show and I just feel like taking another shower. He is disgusting!
My goodness! He’s a monster. The fact that he can sit down and casually dismiss the charges leveled against him shows just how sadistic he is. He contends that touching those boys legs and showering with them had no sexual meaning? What adult shares multiple showers with children aged 10 – 15 and thinks it’s normal? That’s sick!
Is somebody going to tell Ed Shultz, that their is other news besides Penn State?
Sadly, this is all he will talk about, the rest of the week!
I absolutely support him talking about it. Those children were molested and raped and some kids at Penn State are trying to excuse Paterno’s behavior as though he’s the wronged party. He should absolutely talk about it and keep exposing those who were involved in the cover-up. Some people seem to be forgeting that monster wrecked peoples lives. Child abuse is real and no trifling matter.
Me too! I want this subject talked about until this maggot is in his cell with Big Bubba getting done to him what he did to those children.
Yes! However, one segment, is very informative, two segments, a little much, but 4 segments or the whole show?
Come on!
There is no come on about it. This is child abuse. I don’t freaking care if he talks about it for an hour or 10,000 hours. Those kids were VICTIMS of molestation and rape and someone needs to be out there telling their stories. If you don’t want to watch, change the channel. Other people want to watch and make sure those complicit in covering up what that monster did get their just deserts.
You’re right. There were clearly mulptiple instances of child rape. Some “big honchos” at Penn State covered it up.
There are boys whose lives have been RUINED.
It’s not possible to OVERSTATE how important this is. Especially to the victims.
Paterno, McQueary and everyone else responsible for this cover-up slept every-night for 13-years knowing that defenseless boys were in danger or being raped by that monster. They are morally as culpable as that disgusting child rapist. They could have stopped this man from raping the other children, after they found out, but they chose their career, their precious football over defenseless children. They disgust me!! Penn State officials who covered up these crimes should be exposed and shinned from society. So, kudos to Ed and other who are shinning the spotlight on these crimes and the immoral characters who are still defending these cowards.
Here’s a timeline of how everyone, and I mean everyone, passed the ball, were negligent—–for years. Repub Gov. Corbett certainly shares in this travesty. He was AG when attention was brought by one of the victims—-assigned one state trooper! to investigate the case—–and then just let it drop. Everyone said he was too busy preparing to run for gov. and wanted PSU voters—–didn’t want them mad at him. And he didn’t notify anyone as Sandusky still had access to schools, charity, Penn St. facilities. Etc. etc. etc. I’ve never seen such incompetence and disregard by so many people on such a serious matter, total disregard for the well-being of vulnerable children:
http://www.pennlive.com/midstate/index.ssf/2011/11/special_report_why_the_jerry_s.html
I believe Corbett is responsible also. He looks like he is hiding something, the eyes are the window into the soul. It will come out sooner rather than later.
It is an evil thing to say, but Corbett has tried to act so self-righteous about this case (after it’s come to light) that I really want him to be taken down on this. He’s a destructive man with an over-inflated ego.
WASHINGTON–The Obama re-election team has been challenged to come up with a slogan as effective as the “hope and change” that propelled Barack Obama to the White House in 2008. An ad campaign–and a speech Obama made Monday in Hawaii–gives some clues where the Obama 2012 team is headed: Obama is “change delivered.”
Obama’s team has kicked up stressing and outlining Obama’s accomplishments on-line. Web ads are running highlighting what Obama has done with the headline, “Because of Obama…”
Obama, at a fund-raiser in the Aulani Disney Resort in Ko Olina in his native state, framed a portion of his speech with the refrain, “Change is….”
Excerpts from the Obama speech:
“Change is the decision we made — not a popular one at the time — to save the auto industry from collapse.
“….Change is the decision we made to stop waiting for Congress to do something about our oil addiction and finally raise our fuel-efficiency standards on our cars and on our trucks.
“….Change is the fight that we won to stop sending $60 billion in taxpayer subsidies to the banks that were giving out student loans, and today that money is going directly to students.
“….Change is health care reform
“….Change is the fact that, for the first time in history, it doesn’t matter who you love if you want to serve this country that we all love.
“….And change is keeping one of the first promises I made in my campaign in 2008 — we are bringing the war in Iraq to a close. ”
This is wonderful!
Yup!
Works for me. I like it. I like it a lot.
Fabulous!
Perfect. Now if only the rest of the Dems run on their accomplishments…..
