TIME is hosting a poll on who should be Person of the Year and they have President Obama listed with willard, Nicolas Sarkozy, rupey murdock, paul ryan and so on and so and so. Please take a moment to vote FOR our president. Whether they “listen” to what we want, they will know we are reading and watching…… I voted YES!…. 🙂

Just joining you all for a brief moment. Sankofa, if Time has to go through all of that BS for Person of the Year, is it really worth it to value their judgement? I flatly reject their choices, since there is only one for me for all the hell he has had to/does go through, and remains standing tall, confident, still hopeful, and ever so charming…..as well as accomplished. Hell no, Time, the others do not compare. President Obama hands down. Thanks for your vote anyhow, but I gave up on Time once they started being snarky about PBO, and since they decided to keep the dick-head Halperin. I do not play with these creatures.

EDP4BHO….Oh I agree with what you wrote, the others can’t compare, they don’t and will never have President Obama’s attributes at all. I was just sending a message to TIME that WE see what you’re doing. I voted because I won’t them to KNOW people are standing with the president, no matter how assinine they try and present him….. I disagree, but this is my opinion. I think Mr. Lothian is giving President Obama the opportunity to be the sane individual in the room. You don’t ignore your opponents (no matter how out of touch they are), you define them. I’m not just saying this because I’ve met and spoken with Mr. Lothain who is a very nice man, smart and well informed. Same with Mrs. O’Donnell, I appreciate her giving President Obama the opportunity to show our American people how incredibly ill-informed Mittens flippy-floppy Romney really is.

      • November 13, 2011 at 11:03 pm

    • 137 nathkatun7
      November 14, 2011 at 7:17 pm

JennyLee, I can’t think of any better National reporters. May be some of those local Reporters who interviewed the President could be tapped. I say we bypass so called reporters and look to other nationally recognized people. I nominate Jay Leno and Rev. Al. Sharpton. They asked the President better and more intelligent questions.

  38. November 13, 2011 at 10:30 pm

Wow! how reflective and thoughtful on that Penn State question.

    • 139 elo4obama/biden
      November 13, 2011 at 11:07 pm

Yes, I really did not mind the “jackals” asking the Prez directly on this one. I’m sure Jay is happy that they can STOP asking him to comment. His response was very thoughtful, as I’m sure he’s had time to reflect upon this. The falier of Penn State, and seemingly taw enforcement and the judicial system is enormous. This happens a lot, just this cas is so public and front and center.

Once again PBO is being our country’s moral compass, which is really what a good president does. Does not mean he is not allowed mistakes or bad decisions but we should keep a real sense of decency.

What I find odd about these pressers is that there is never a sense of appropriateness. Some of these questions it is good that they’d ask, but given where and what is happening, and APEC meeting why not more questions about this business. Was that jessica yellin asking the cheap question about the exoticness of the countries over the next few days. Well jessica it’s where the US needs to do more trade in the coming years. And yes Hawaii is one beautiful and exotic state that millions of Americans call home.

      • November 13, 2011 at 11:33 pm

‘there is never a sense of appropriateness.’

THIS is what ticks me off! They follow the President around and never seem to listen or have any awareness of location, always trotting out their stupid GOP comments regardless of the immediate audience. Makes me think of my grandma saying never wash your dirty linen in public. And the disgusting part for me is that there doesn’t seem to be ANY consistent professionalism. They all seem to think that adding the occasional ‘sir’ or Mr. President conceals the snark and legitimizes the question. I haven’t been so mad in a long time!
        ….
Probably because they came at the tail end of my Chips-Obama travel tour which in the past has always been (a) day(s) of HIGH highs!

um ok, so Obama giving a press conference in Honolulu from APEC Summit, ya know, a real foreign policy event that may have some effect on international relations and ALL the questions from US press corps is about the GOP debate, as if POTUS hasn’t kinda been busy with ya know international stuff?

    • November 13, 2011 at 11:37 pm

They really do NOT listen to/hear the answers to their asinine questions. Seems like they each pick up a question sheet on the way to the presser, and each journalist asks the (generally paraphrased) question on the sheet following the one just asked.

    • November 13, 2011 at 10:43 pm

Apparently, it’s tradition that wherever APEC is, you dress in the traditional garb. Last year when it was announced that APEC would be hosted by America and PBO choose Hawaii, he said they’d all be wearing Hawaiian shirts. He gave them the shirts but gave them option of wearing them.

Ed Henry is worried about Obama’s leadership going into the election without jobs bill passed. Blinders on about the total Repub blockade. I thought Chuck T’s question might be the worst of the night, but I forgot about ol’ Ed Henry and his usual accusatory questions. The only good that comes from these pressers with these poor excuses for journalists and their wasteful, idiotic questions is the chance to put President Obama’s wide base of knowledge on display. His thoughtful, smart responses stand in stark contrast to the basement quality of the questions he is asked.

  60. November 13, 2011 at 10:54 pm

  61. 196 carolyn
    November 13, 2011 at 10:57 pm

Just finished watching the press conference…..yes, some of the questions were dumb…..but the President took those as a jumping off point to inform and educate. After a while, the question and the questioner were forgotten, and what he said is what counted. When Norah O’Donnell said “The Rpublicans disagreed with you…..” He said “Shocking!” and smiled, and she couldn’t even continue for a long beat. He’s always on top, and they aren’t. He uses these as wonderful opportunities to talk directly to the people. My husband had turned on FOX…we NEVER watch it, but he was flipping channels and came to the president, and the reception was good. The crawler along the bottom at the end said that Canada and Mexico want to join this Pacific Trade Group and that strengthens president Obama’s stance and leadership of it. Yes, that’s what the crawler actually said.
It’s been a long slow haul, but his patience and confidence are winning.

I really do believe in my heart and with my brain that Our Beloved and Intelligent Patient President could take the worst s… and (gloves on for sure) make the most out of this world patties you have ever seen or eaten. That is what brilliance and using it will do.

He is so damn brilliant that he takes the fools questions and turn them into an educational moment that is priceless, and educate the entire world with his brilliance with his answers. It is just terrific to see him do that.

That is what I love about our brilliant President. He is like watching a brilliiant pianist, artist, mathematician, educator, scientist, doctor perform with the worst instrument in their profession and make the most brilliant composition, solve the most difficult equation, play the most beautiful solo on the violin, teach the most disruptivd bunch of kids in a classroom, operate in an operating room with precision, and do it front of the whole world. And keep stepping without missing a step.

And there you get what? A Brilliant Masterpiece!!!!!!! He is fricking Brilliant. I love watching him answer questions with these fools. Brillliant, Mr. President!!!!!!! HZ

  62. November 13, 2011 at 10:57 pm

Net time, president must completely replace the current crop of pathetic press pool that goes with him with some reporters from outside the beltway. I’m sure there are plenty of much more smarter reporters out there toiling for a recognition.

    • November 13, 2011 at 11:02 pm

Isn’t it up to the news agencies who they want to send to cover the White House? That’s kind of like separation of church and state: If the White House can choose who it allows to cover the White House, that’s bad. And if they did do it, we’d be screaming foul play.

        November 13, 2011 at 11:20 pm

I’m thinking more along the lines of being able to choose the network or news outlet. Just like he gave unprecedented access to the local stations (last week) he could issue the same invite for travel. Plus Jay called on the news guy from Tampa ( mabe Mark Wilson) at the presser on that Tuesday.

As someone already mentioned plenty of news outlets there, but always the same big 4-cbs, abc. nbc and fox. Mix it up more, and who says they HAVE to get a question in. I think Jay may have once or twice not gone to the front row first. I’d like to see taking more questions from smaller outlets and print and online news outlets.

      • November 13, 2011 at 11:29 pm

Who gets invited into his plane is entirely up to him.

I love my President. One of the principles of leadership is setting a good example. YES! Thank you. He handled that question so beautifully. And it wasn’t just talk saying we don’t need torture to prosecute the war on terror. He’s got the proof to back it up. We. Don’t. Need. Torture. Period.

Take that congress! In particular republican congress. He is NOT going to stop talking and “campaigning” about the parts of the AJA. So ya know guess what it’s going to be time to put up- you say jobs are important, then do it. Plus with whatever agreement they reach this month, which I think will have revenue! There will be no excuse not to give a booste to job hiring and pay for the thing with some kind of revenue. Cause PBO is not going to go silent on what we can do to create jobs NOW- and we need infrastructure for the economy we are working towards this 21st century. We need to improve our institutions of education, and we need teachers and first responders. Republicans do ya really want to be the cause of higher taxes for the middile class going into an election year. If you are feeing the heat now, you just wait for what you will be feeling at the end of the year.

What other announcements will the Prez have to make regarding Pacific Eastern trade- how close will we be to doubling our trade by the time of the state of the union address. The president is working to do all that he can do alone, so…what is the republican congress contributing to our economy.

      PRESS ON!!!!

Don’t remember. At this point, does it really matter? As the great bard once said:

“What’s in a name? That which we call a dumbass
By any other name would smell as stink”

And as many great Americans have uttered:

“A dumbass by any other name is still a dumbass”

And as I like to say:

Thankfully, there are sites, like this one, that continue to expose the failure of our so called mainstream media.

What I also liked about the Presser was we got to hear about the context of the President’s private conversation with the French President regarding Netanyau.

Yes, that was a great little piece of news. President Obama took President Sarkozy to task for voting for Palestine at UNESCO, short-cutting the peace talks process. That was more important than talking about gossip of an open mic.

  71. November 13, 2011 at 11:20 pm

Totally in love with his BRAIN! The APEC Q&A yesterday was nothing short of brilliant.
This man has total command of all subjects thrown at him. And then tonight’s presser.
What meticulous well thought out answers to mostly garbage questions. As lisalovesobama
correctly pointed out above, our PREZ skillfully walks away from the talking points masquerading
as questions and reframes the conversation to drive home his issues. Master and Commander…that he is!

This is why the Big Bank front organization American Crossroads is already running attack ads against her. Nothing scares the Big Banks and GOP more than the Democrats having another candidate in the pipeline that inspires us and gets us to show up in droves to volunteer. They want to get ahead of this next freight train headed down the tracks.

I’ve thought the same thing, Tien Le. They are all for the chase, never about rolling up sleeves and doing the realistic work of making difficult change. They’re the same people who hyperventilated over President Obama, and are now calling him “Bush-lite”. I choose to ignore them as much as possible. If Elizabeth Warren gets to the Senate, I(which seems likely), then I wish her good luck. I won’t start putting great expectations on her for 2016 until I see how effective she is in the Senate – but she is a hard worker for the middle class, and if she can stomach the political environment, would be interesting to see as a political operative – maybe even vying for the White House. At this time, I’ve got my eye on Governor O’Malley for 2016.

That is OK, she’d be in office then. She would have to be as determined, smart and as couregeous as PBO to be the “first.” Yes there are those out there with a short attention span, no sense of how government works and a real laziness to be all “I’m dissappointed” but you know our President presses on, keeps his eye short and long term. honestly he is zen like water flowing over and under and around a rock ( the obstructionism of the republican congress and their corporate masters). You’ve got to be tough, and maybe also have the mindset to give it your all, and hope the American people are smart and sensible enough to “buy into your vision” and patient enough to see the baby steps taken at times to get us there- a stronger more vibrant middle class, a 21st century economy, 21st century fuel and the kind of relationshiip bridges needed for this more complex and ever changing world.

None of the republican candidates have any kind of a moral core, they are all morally bankrupt or lack the courage to take on the crazies of their party. Any time 1 of them half way makes sense, they get cowarded down to walking back their position, and they say any ole silly thing to please the RWN part of their base. Ew, goodnight!

HONOLULU (Reuters) – President Barack Obama told China on Sunday that the United States was fed up with its trade and currency practices, as he turned up the heat on America’s biggest economic rival at an Asia Pacific summit.

“Enough’s enough,” Obama said bluntly at a closing news conference at the annual Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation meeting where he scored a significant breakthrough in his push to create a pan-Pacific free trade zone.

Good night, everyone. I just want to thank you Chips for keeping me informed this weekend with all the important events of our beloved POB and his lovely wife, FLOTUS. Volunteering duties of phone banking keeps me quite busy. But I just had to let you all know that I thank you for all the information. You do not realize how it helps me to educate and re-educate voters. I thank the brave TOD ers who have the stomach to watch the clown debates. I just refuse to subject myself to their ignorance. I will not allow myself to go to bed with that nonsense. Thanks to you, Chips, I rather look at some of our President’s speeches to help me wind down for the evening.

I agree with the comments concerning the WH press. When will their terms expire? Please tell me we will not have to deal with them another four years……..gee whiz. My five-year-old grandson’s questions are much more thought out and intelligent than those idiots. Grant, it our President and Jay make them look like fools, but once….just once I would like to hear questions of what the people may be thinking and not what the repubs sent them to ask. It is so annoying and very unprofessional. Especially the ones who sit in the front seats. They ask their questions and sit there as if they are doing everyone in the room a favor by just being there. So disgusting to watch.

“But when voters were pushed to pick between Obama and the GOP front-runner, Mitt Romney, the president took a 6-percentage-point lead. Obama beat Herman Cain by 9 percentage points in the survey, conducted last week as new revelations about sexual harassment allegations against the former Godfather’s Pizza CEO continued to trickle out.

Those fresh numbers highlight the circumstance that will determine who wins next year’s election: The more that the 2012 contest is a referendum on Obama’s job performance, the more likely he is to lose. …

The president’s job approval rating is at 44 percent, with a dangerously high 51 percent disapproval. Of those who disapprove, 41 percent say they feel strongly. Worse, in a sample of the 19 states that could swing to either party next year, Obama’s job approval fell to 40 percent and his disapproval increased to 57 percent. These numbers are on par with Obama’s standing on the eve of last year’s Democratic shellacking in the midterm elections.”

WTH is a generic republican? They kill me with this garbage. MITT is the nominee…if they don’t like him now, they won’t like him later. You see most are leading with this generic nonsense..and not Romney v Obama. Hello, Iowa is in two months, we’ve had a gazillion debates, there is NO GENERIC REPUBLICAN:(

    • November 14, 2011 at 9:33 am

The issue with approval/disapproval is some from the left disapprove, but that doesn’t mean they won’t vote for him or will vote for Republican candidate.

WATCHED PBO LAST NIGHT…AS AN EX-NEWS REPORTER…I AM EMBARRASSED AND SADDENED BY THOSE REPORTERS WHO DISRESPECT THE OFFICE OF THE PRESIDENT. HOW DARE THEY CRITIQUE PBO’S JOURNEY THIS WEEK WHEN REPUBLICANS HAVE DONE NOTHING BUT SQUANDER AND DESTROY THE MORAL VALUES WE HOLD SO DEARLY IN AMERICA’S BIRTHING! AND…NO…TORTURE IS NOT OKAY! MAY GOD DEEPLY BLESS YOU MR. PRESIDENT AND GIVE YOU STRENGTH AS WE MOVE FORWARD AND FACE THE CHALLENGES FOR THIS NATION. YOU ARE LOVED!

Sue – watching those “reporters” on tv . . . they make the case that journalism is either dead and buried or in a deep coma with minimal chance of recovery.

Good morning TOD family. Love, love, love the President’s response to the Republican Circus. “Waterboarding IS torture. . .that’s not something we do. Period.”

Posting the candle link for those who wish to light a candle for the continued success and safety of the President’s trip.

Here’s a link to FLOTUS’ event yesterday. There’s also coverage of the event at http://www.khon2.com but I couldn’t get the link to show up if you want to check that one out as well (in that one there’s a short clip of the boys choir singing).

Also, msnbc will be propping up Romney all day, as they re interviewed Republicans after the Cain scandal and Perry Oooops!
Romney has 32% of the republican vote now. Of course, the media is giving Romney a free pass.

  97. November 14, 2011 at 8:03 am

    Hey chips,
Look at this love fest halperin has for Romney- after reading this, I am quite certain Romney will come out for marriage equality- good grief:

Halperin also had a love-fest for John McCain. Halperin’s “love” is like the kiss of death. If I were Romney I would be afraid – very afraid.

    From Breakingnews.com:

“King Abdullah of Jordan calls on Syrian President Bashir Assad to step down in a BBC interview – @BBCBreaking”

The times are changing. Tunisia, Egypt, Libya and even Iran, which was briefly touched by a Green Revolution, should provide ample evidence that the day of the strongman is over.

Assad, like every other delusional dictator before him, thinks he is exceptional. The Arab Spring is other countries, not his people. How many of his fellow countrymen will he slay before he accepts the inevitable?

Hopefully soon, he will see the writing on the wall, and step down. Too many people are being killed. The people are speaking…he needs to listen

Meep Meep….once again, the PEOPLE of that area have spoken. I am concerned of all those that have died, but more bloodshed would have come if the WEST decided to cowboy this one…

Yep it’s the people within the country calling for regime change, not our President.

The Syrian leadership is seriously out of touch:

“Syrian foreign minister Walid al-Moualem says Arab League suspension an ‘extremely dangerous step.’ – Reuters”

They’re threatening the Arab League? What are the going to do them? Or is that a threat that they’ll escalate violence against their own people, if suspended from the Arab League?

Assad is starting to mimic Ghaddaffi. As he was rapidly losing his grip on power, he also was losing his grip on reality and sunk into a seige mentality like a suicidal cult leader.

Watching Morning Joe because CNN is talking about the dinner and the 99% singer….Major Garrett just said that after the GOP debate he is terrified of the GOP foreign policy…..Morning Joe alluded to the same position.

CNN is obsessed with that story about the 99% singer. Clearly they think it was to the President’s embarrassment. But as I indicated on a thread at Old Orange (where they also seemed super gleeful about that story), what if the President knew that this guy was going to sing protest songs and had given the singer his okay. According to the singer “President Obama did not appear to notice.” Well I think that was the role that PBO might have had agreed to play. And the singer knew that as well.

        November 14, 2011 at 10:11 am

Maybe the guy singer wasn’t any good that’s way no one seem to play him any attention. The only one to play him any attention is the sorry ass media.

The next sector to be targeted by President Obama’s campaign to help the economy without Congress is the health care industry, The Washington Post reports.

Up to $1 billion will be made available to hire health workers, the paper details:

Grants can go to doctors, community groups, local government and other organizations that work with patients in federal health-care programs such as Medicare and Medicaid. The funds are for experimenting with different ways to expand the health-care workforce while reducing the cost of delivering care. There will be an emphasis on speed, with new programs expected to be running within six months of funding. …

The Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation, created as part of the Affordable Care Act, will administer and oversee the program, called the Health Care Innovation Challenge.

ZOMG Can you believe this BS from POLITICO….”Kids obsession with President Obama fades”..Yesterday’s story was ridiculous but this BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

    • November 14, 2011 at 8:28 am

They read the polls, they are realizing that the economy may not be enough, to get rid of this President!

      November 14, 2011 at 8:35 am

Kids were never “obsessed” with President Obama. They liked and respected him and that is STILL THE CASE. It’s the GOPMEDIA that has been obsessed with making Obama fail, making him be a one-term president. They are ratcheting up their anti-Obama campaign.

Here’s the quest of Politico, Associated Press and Fox:

      Nov. 10 2008

“The all-time low on the public’s mood may have something to do with the poll’s finding that President Bush is the most unpopular president since approval ratings were first sought more than six decades ago. Seventy-six percent of those questioned in the poll disapprove of how he is handling his job.

That’s an all-time high in CNN polling and in Gallup polling dating back to World War II.”

      http://articles.cnn.com/2008-11-10/politics/bush.transition.poll_1_disapproval-rating-opinion-research-corporation-polling-director?_s=PM:POLITICS

God bless ’em. Try as they may. That is not going to happen with this President. Given how choppy the economy he should be doing dismally.

The GOP and their media water carriers have done everything they could to incite the widespread rejection of President Obama that was felt for Bush.

But it’s not going to happen, because there really is no basis for despising this President. You have to work at it believing he’s wholly responsible for the fact that corporations aren’t hiring.

You really have to contort yourself to believe his foreign policy has been a disaster after the transitions that have occured in Tunisia, Egypt and Libya with none of the losses in blood and treasure incurred by neocon foreign adventures.

I almost pity them. Because of the profession they’re in and the corporate masters they must do the bidding for, they can’t publicly acknowledge this President’s singular, historic accomplishments, domestically and internationally, in a mere three years.
