March 2010: A 100-square-meter brick art tribute to U.S. President Barack Obama is unveiled in Sydney, Australia. The tribute wall was erected as a lead-up to Obama’s scheduled visit to Australia which was later cancelled

Tomorrow: The President leaves for Hawaii, stopping en route in San Diego.

Saturday: Hosts a meeting of the Trans-Pacific Partnership; attends the APEC CEO Business Summit; holds bilateral meetings with Prime Minister Nodo of Japan, President Medvedev of Russia and President Hu Jintao of China. In the evening, hosts a dinner and a cultural program for the APEC leaders in Honolulu, makes remarks. First Lady Michelle Obama will hold a farm-to-table agricultural education event at MA‘O Organic Farms in Waianae.

Sunday: Makes opening comments at the APEC Summit and attends sessions through the day; holds a press conference to wrap up the summit. In the evening meets with the Mexican President and the Canadian Prime Minister at the North American Leaders Summit. The First Lady hosts a luncheon with APEC leaders’ spouses at Kualoa Ranch.

Monday: Holds a fundraiser in the morning. That will be his only event for the day before he leaves on Tuesday morning for Canberra, Australia.

Ben Rhodes (Deputy National Security Advisor for Strategic Communications): “Now, because of the wonders of the world, the flight to Australia takes us forward a day on the clock. So we now move to Wednesday, November 16th, in terms of the schedule here. And this is Australia time.”

Check here for the transcript of Rhodes trying to talk time zones with the press, the confusion was hilarious – and I’m hopelessly confused too 😳

Wednesday: Arrives in Australia. Has a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Gillard, the two leaders then holding a joint press conference. Attends a parliamentary dinner at the Australian Parliament House that night where he will make remarks about the U.S.-Australian relationship.

Thursday: Begins his day by laying a wreath at an Australian war memorial; meets with opposition leader Tony Abbott; addresses the Australian Parliament; visits a local primary school with PM Gillard; visits the US embassy. Leaves Canberra for Darwin. Visits a memorial to the USS Peary and lays a wreath. The President and PM Gillard together address Australian troops. That concludes the Australia portion of the visit. The President flies that night to Bali, Indonesia.

Friday: Attends a number of bilateral meetings. Meets with the Prime Minister of India and the leaders of Thailand, the Philippines and Malaysia. Meets with the ASEAN nations, the 10 Southeast Asian nations. Meets with President Yudhoyono of Indonesia; attends an East Asia dinner that night.

Saturday: The East Asian Summit takes place through the day. At its conclusion the President returns to the United States.

If only Huntsman took on Romney in debates half as well as his ad people take him on in videos:

****

Univision: President Obama says he is confident in his ability to win over Latino voters before next year’s elections, thanks to some added help from his Republican opponents.

…. “I don’t think it requires us to go negative in the sense of us running a bunch of ads that are false, or character assassinations,” Obama told Univision News. “It will be based on facts … We may just run clips of the Republican debates verbatim. We won’t even comment on them, we’ll just run those in a loop on Univision and Telemundo, and people can make up their own minds.”

That’s one of the strongest rebukes thus far from Obama against Republicans when it comes to their desire to chip away at his base of Latino support. And it underscores the president’s eagerness to go toe-to-toe with his GOP opponents although the beginning of the general election campaign is still months away.

…. “That’s not to say the Latino community is going to think my administration is perfect. But I think they know where my heart is and they know the kind of America that I want to see for all of our children,” he said. “The values and the vision I have is going to match up much more closely with where the Latino community wants to see the country going.”

TPM: With Recovery Act funding running out, that old TPM favorite – the anti-stimulus Republican who takes credit for stimulus funding in their district – is becoming somewhat of a rarity. But Rep. Frank Guinta (R-NH) kicked it old school on Thursday by cutting the ribbon on a new road that received millions from the same spending bill he opposed.

More here

****

TPM: …. last week a Quinnipiac national poll showed the President’s approval rating rising while he led Romney nationally by five points … Five days later an NBC/WSJ poll showed the same trend, as Obama expanded his lead on the former Mass Gov. from 2 points to 6 in that poll. In both cases none of the other GOP candidates came close to the President.

…. Gallup released new data polling Obama versus a generic Republican, which for the last year has been the only hypothetical contest that Obama has consistently lost. But in this week’s matchup, Obama actually took a one point lead against the faceless Republican, a major change in Gallup’s tracking, which had the generic candidate ahead by eight points just a month ago.

It’s a sign both that Obama’s message on jobs is resonating …. It seems that as the race moves along, and a Romney-Obama matchup becomes more likely, the generic candidate is morphing into Romney. And as that happens, Obama starts to do better.

      Good for Robert Redford!!!

This is exactly how it’s done!!!

You thank and encourage your ally in the White House even as you continue to to support and urge him on to do more!!!

You don’t tear down and destroy your only ally and hope at getting your cause attended to just becaiuse he has not perfectly delivered every last wish on your dream list!!!

I love this photo soooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Much. Intellect, respect, intense conversation written all over their faces, and that David Plouffe and POB’s brains put together , well, what can you say but, “We Have A Team To Work For Us” everyday they enter into that Oval Office.

Now, do you see dysfunctionality in that room, I mean, that is the White House!!! Give Me A Break.HZ

Hi Chips, I have been having a blank space when I try to comment, but I just stop and go on and just read or go to tweet. I have to be so careful to check because some of my messages are ending up in my spam. I upgrade my mail page a few weeks ago, and I have not been the same since.

I did get your note today. That was very important to me, because I thought that I was in trouble and put in time out. My tech savvy is not where my TOD family members are in all of this. Let me know what I need to do, please.HZ

Did you guys see Rev. Al when he talked of this McQueary guy who walk in and witness that man in the shower raping that 10 year. I can’t understand how that McQueary could have walk out of there without calling the police. Better yet going in there and beating the crap out of that guy who was harming that child. Instead he goes home and call his father. Shouldn’t McQueary be fired too?

        • 86 Keith in C-bus, Ohio
          November 10, 2011 at 9:01 pm

Yes, McQueary should have been fired and yes he should have called the police that night. You folks won’t believe what else is brewing up in Pennsylvania. The Second Mile charity that this Monster Sandusky founded is said to be a brothel or child prostitution ring for wealthy PSU doners. There are investigatgive reporters investigating these leads now. It is time for the FBI to jump in cause the missing DA from the 1998 case is most likely a MOB hit cause the man knew too much. This thing is getting ugly folks. I have been following intently seeings how Penn State belongs to our Big Ten Conference in intercollegiate athletics. As and Ohio State Buckeyes fan here in Columbus, Ohio this tragic story is of great interest since we play them in football next Saturday here at home.

That being said this story is way bigger than sports. It is an cancer in our society itself. Power, money, and image allowed the Penn State administrators and football coaches to cover up this Monster’s pediphilia and hibitual rape rampage all these years with knowledge and without any intervention. It is a TRAVESTY. 😦

          • November 10, 2011 at 9:15 pm

I read that this was being investigated and that the scandal was growing. If it’s true, the incoming line at prison had better be very long when the Justice system gets done with these guys. Unfortunately, all the prison time in the world isn’t going to make life better for the children involved. I agree about the cancer on society. How many people knew about this or even suspected and did nothing out of fear of rocking the boat? This is getting uglier all the time.

I want to know the answer to that question, too. His incompetency killed Michael.

    • 96 dotster3
      November 10, 2011 at 7:48 pm

I have a certain amount of sympathy for him, but of course he was negligent. But I think he thought he was doing what Michael wanted. And I also think the Jackson family had an obligation to their son and brother to get him help for his obvious multiple addictions/troubles. With all his money, he should have been somewhere receiving the best of medical and emotional help. Just a waste of such a talented life cut short way too soon—-should never have happened.

      • 97 hopefruit2
        November 10, 2011 at 7:56 pm

I agree with you dotster. But the media needs to let the man serve his time and stop pushing documentaries when feelings are still very raw and the family is grieving.

    • 98 anniebella
      November 10, 2011 at 8:00 pm

hopefruit2, I was wondering that same thing. I believe he ought to be facing more than four years in prison. I have never been a big fan of Nancy Grace, but she says Murray should have been charge with second degree murder. This guy Murray might not even spend a day in prison. That is not right. As for as this pity thing for Murray, it’s just another chance to degrade and put down Michael Jackson. The media did it enough when he was living, so I guess they figure why stop now. We’re just keep on trashing MJ , who cares that he is dead. As for as the documentary goes, count me out I don’t want to hear anything Murray has to say. He had his chance to speak up and tell the truth during the trial, but he refuse to take the stand. Wonder why?

      • 99 anniebella
        November 10, 2011 at 8:33 pm

Doing what Michael wanted. I just don’t buy that. Murray was doing what Michael wanted, even if it made no sense.Murray shouldn’t have been giving propofol in a home. But if Murray was going to take on such a task, he out to have been prepared for any crisis which might arise. Remember that nurse who said Michael ask her for propofol. She told Michael no. She told him that it could harm him, and it is reported that Michael said not if someone is watching him. Well did Murray watch him? Doing what Michael wanted. I am willing to bet my doctor won’t give me anything I ask for, but then again I’m not paying my doctor $150,000 thousand dollars.

    Just in on my e-mail:

I’ve got great news to report: Today, by a 10-8 vote, the Senate Judiciary Committee passed the Respect for Marriage Act, legislation that would repeal DOMA and ensure the equality of all state-sanctioned marriages!

This is an historic milestone in our ongoing fight for freedom and equality. But we’re not done yet. Next, the Respect for Marriage Act heads to the floor where I hope it will be debated and passed by the full Senate soon.

Six states, including Vermont, and the District of Columbia now recognize that all of their citizens have the freedom to marry, including same-sex couples. But because of DOMA, thousands of American families are being treated unfairly by the federal government.

This is wrong — and we’ve got to change it. We must repeal DOMA to ensure the freedom and equality of all of our citizens.

Thank you for your continued support in this critical fight.

    Sincerely,

    Patrick Leahy
    U.S. Senator

Hi Everyone, I’m excited President Obama is visiting Australia, I’m just trying to work out whether I can take the time off to drive to Canberra, approximately 4.5 hours one way for the opportunity to meet and, so hoping, shake the President’s hand. Very very exciting.

I also wanted to mention that the slogan on that brick art of the President is not meant to be offensive (personally, I thought Tourism Australia, who was responsible for trying to market that slogan a few years back to reflect the general laid back nature of Australians, could have done a better job). However, the brick art, part of a collection from one of our manufacturing companies is very impressive. I took photos of my two boys who looked like ants next to it last year.

I’ll be sure to post any pics, if I manage to get there to this fantastic site!

In light of the GOP debate disasters, this was PBO’S response on what the strategy would be for defeating the republicans…

Great answer! Did I say that I love this man?

  21. November 10, 2011 at 7:49 pm

Chips et al, if ya’ll feel I”m posting too much about the Penn State horror, then please tell me so, but as a child victim myself (I testified against a family member who went to jail), I’m totally invested in this case. I can’t help but soak up every bit of news I find. And it helps me to “talk” it out with other, so I”m not obsessing all the time.

Anyway, just tell me, “lamh35…enough” and I’ll stop.

FYI: Think Progress Tweet: Joe Paterno has hired a criminal defense attorney!

lamh35, you are well within your rights to obsess about this. Please continue to monitor your own state of emotional well-being along the way. Obsessing about things we cannot change can spiral into a dark place if we’re not careful. Find a happy place in your heart to visit regularly to create a balance. I wish for you a sense of peace and empowerment around this, if focusing on it helps you heal.

Important advice, Tien Le…though I do understand lamh35’s point…I imagine that in a way it is cathartic in an odd way.

This whole Penn State stuff makes me sick. I also was a child victim. I am so sick that people knew what was going on and no one did anything for those children!!!!!!! I want to scream at those students. They don’t understand what is going on. What if they were one of those children. I am 65 and you are never over this. We will keep talking. This must not be turned to about football. My thoughts are with you and all of us who have gone thru this.

I heard on the radio tonight that the students actually went to his house to support him. He stood on his front porch and told them all to go back to school, study hard, and let the investigation and justice prevail. I thought that was good advice.

I haven’t read the transcripts, but this sickens me. My step grandfather tried to molest me when I was young. I immediately told my stepdad and he was never allowed near me , was thrown out of the house(they were visiting) and father and son never spoke again.

It’s horrific and has lasting scars…some that I’m certain that I have not dealt with, even today. They remain tucked away in the far, far reaches of my mind. I prefer to move forward.

lamh35…I am so sorry that you had to endure that…you were very brave to do what was necessary to put that offender in jail…especially a family member. You did the right thing. I’m sure that you know that.

I think that the secrecy has to do with the shame, for the school’s reputation, for the football program,. It also has to do with donors and money, and THAT’S the part I have the most heartache with…for the love of god, since when does money/reputation come before the welfare of children? Something is very broken. A moral corruption that is rampant. Were they all only remorseful because they got caught? So many questions….so MANY questions.

After reading the Grand Jury Report on the case lamh34, I do not think you are over talking or over obsessing about the event. I’m in college and this has been the news of the day. In my school newspaper and in various ethics classes and non-ethics classes. The horrific details of the incidents are so hard to grasp and to witness students excusing the abhorrent behaviors of witnesses to the crimes because it affects their football program is shocking to say the least. So please (in my opinion) feel free to talk about the incident if it helps you. I’m sorry that you had to go through such a horrific incident as a child but I’m glad you were able to come through on the other side.

I’m so sorry about what you went through as a child lamh35……..sigh. I’m glad that the sick person who did that to you went to jail, in so many cases, they don’t…the victims are afraid to talk.

This type of criminal and disgusting behavior has to be expose…not hidden.

      .

    • November 10, 2011 at 8:48 pm

Targets of abusive behavior are re-victimized every single time this kind of event comes up. I support you and all others who are struggling with this horrific tragedy. Those in a position to do something to stop it did not fulfill their responsibilities or their obligation to report it to both the police and the campus chain of command. It’s required that these events are fully reported, investigated and documented, and legal authorities are to be notified in the case of a suspected commission of a crime. It’s unconscionable what happened in PA. There will be serious ramifications for all involved.

Love you lamh35. Stay strong. I have a family member who is a victim of incest abuse. That is why this is hitting close to home for me. These crimes effect the entire family. All the people involved with allowing these underprivaledged children to be victimized must be brought to justice.

Also the stop in San Diego is to watch the bball game between Mi. St. and U. of N.C. on the aircraft carrier Carl Vinson. Obama will give 3 radio interviews while there, ESPN being one of them.

    ABOUT THE KEYSTONE PIPELINE DECISION:

    My take:

The president is no fool. This decision to delay rather than outright reject the deal makes it imperative for the environmentalist to organize and vote their interests come next election. As we say in my country: “it is hand go hand come.”

Liberals/progressives/environmentalists etc have got to understand that Pres. Obama has been left holding the bag on many liberal issues for too long and has suffered the wingnut backlash all alone. Nobody came to his defense with the passage of the ACA after emoprogs were howling at him to tackle healthcare. Emoprogs deserted him when they pushed financial Reg reform. They did the same after he passed hate Crimes bill, repeal AIDS travel ban, Hospital visitation rights for gay families, and of course DADT. They poo pooed all these achievements, now they want him to face the big oil lobby alone? Naw, he no fool.

This way everybody’s gotta have skin in the game. simple. If environmentalists want this resolved they gotta put in sweat equity and help him get re-elected, then we talk. If they don’t go to the polls, Repugs authorize the pipeline in Jan 2013. No mas.

PREACH, Zizi! Emos want change, now but don’t want to work for it. Change wasn’t just voting for PBO, but backing him up at every turn when the Repubs and Blue Dogs were trying to undermine him. I was so mad when HuffinPuffin was railing that Dodd-Frank wasn’t enough which cause St. Feingold to say it wasn’t good enough, the administration had to cater to Scott Brown and water down the bill to get it passed. And this is what they do all the time. They complain and don’t help out at all. I think PBO was actually glad that 12K of those enviromentalist protestors came to the WH because then he would have cover to reject the pipeline. Notice no Repubs are complaining about the rejection of the pipeline? Because PBO can say 12K people said no, the comment process revealed doubts about the project, etc and the fact that even in Nebraska, a Republican state, they said no. PBO had the support and backup to reject it because opponents created a groundswell of no.

    • November 10, 2011 at 9:18 pm

So, so, so perfect zizi. It’s about time we started DEMANDING that the emoprogs and environmentalists start showing US that they have the moxy to win this political fight. I’m sick of defending our position. Let them PROVE they’re serious. Otherwise? Go. Sit. Down.

where are the voices of women’s organizations and their defense of cain’s victims?

Am I the only one seeing a link between the arrogant response of cain to the allegations of sexual abuse and the child abuse scandal now engulfing the leadership of Penn State who CHOSE the side of the accused against the victims?

    • November 10, 2011 at 9:50 pm

Good question, global, where are the women’s groups, or, for that matter, any groups that care about human rights? And there is a connection between Cain’s attitude and those in PA who covered up the crimes. In both cases, the powerful are free to victimize because “they can.” And it’s okay to disregard the victims (in the case of the children) or vilify them(in the case of the women).

I wonder why people take this right winger, self absorbed, woman seriously. Many of us in California know she is a fraud. She tried to run for Governor as progressive and got absolutely no where. Why? Because many of us remembered her as surrogate of her right wing ex husband who run for the senate. How in the world can a good friend Newt Gingrich and Darryl Issa claim to be a pure progressive? May be Geithner and Emmanuel — two smart individuals– saw through her BS. and refused to buy into them. That may explain why she has been so obsessed with them.

    Good Evening…
After last night debate…I usually go to the opposition sites….and see what the right winger were talking about….
Anyhow..most of the bloggers were pretty much saying…that no one was electable and PBO will be re-elected, I believe that what happened Tues Night..Democrats, Republicans included sent a strong message.

Our President is so way ahead of times, his vision for the country keeps getting brighter, no matter the obstacles He faces.
It’s amazing the way PBO thinks…every decision he makes..is calculated, timed and he executed brilliantly.

He knew way ahead that if he didn’t pass huge legislation as soon as possible, such as Health Care, DADT,Tax Cuts in his first terms, maybe would have never got done and thank God he did. (Just think if he had waited for today) with the No-Good obstructionists GOP, My Lord!!!

He passed Health Care allowing for the legal battle to settle, passed DADT,before the Teaparty/Congress took over Congress.
His involvement in getting OBL…he thought of all of the “What IF s”…I read that, one of the Seal had to size himself with the body of OBL to get his height, due to not bringing a tape measure..(lol) and PBO comment was , You mean we spend Billions in Military equipment and couldn’t bring a tape measure?? His eye for the smallest detail is extraordinary, and displays it when he speaks..not to mention He’s One Good Looking Fella………………How did we get so lucky:-):-)

Let’s work harder in 2012 so that we can guard his accomplishments and finish what he started:-)
