ABC: President Obama holds leads over the top three Republican presidential candidates in a new national poll conducted by Latino Decisions for Univision, with the president enjoying far wider advantages among Latino voters, an area of strength that could ultimately prove crucial come next year’s election.

…. Among registered voters nationwide, Obama holds the largest lead over Perry at 10 percent, with his edge over Romney at 9 percent. Cain, meanwhile, is within 6 percent of the president.

Among registered Latino voters in the 21 most Latino-heavy states, Obama’s advantage is far greater, exceeding two-to-one margins in every case. The president is up 65 percent to 22 percent on Cain, 67 percent to 24 percent on Romney and 68 percent to 21 percent on Perry…..

Greg Sargent: As you may have heard, Republicans on the supercommittee are privately offering Dems what they’re calling a big concession: They will agree to hundreds of billions in new revenues through an overhaul of the tax code in exchange for making the Bush tax cuts permanent.

A senior Senate Democratic aide directly familiar with the discussions tells me that as part of that tax rate overhaul, Republicans are also pushing to drop the highest end tax rate down to 28 percent.

ABC: Michelle Obama told high school students taking part in a mentoring program at Georgetown University on Tuesday that being married to the president can be scary at times, because he makes the family get out of its comfort zone.

The first lady urged students not to let fear guide them after a student asked about being worried about going away to college.

“I mean this is scary,” she said. “Shoot, being married to Barack Obama? He’s got big plans. He’s always pushing us beyond our comfort zones, and I’m dragged along going, ‘What’s he doing now? No, not this.'”

CLEVELAND, Ohio — The polls said that Ohio Issue 2 would be defeated handily — repealing Senate Bill 5, which drastically changed the state’s collective  bargaining law for public employees.

So far, the polls appear to be correct: With only about 9,000 votes in, Issue 2 is failing by a 63 percent to 37 percent ratio.

Still, it remains early in the evening and things could change.

Here’s what Issue 2 is about: It is allowing voters decide whether to keep or repeal Senate Bill 5 – a historic rewrite of Ohio’s collective bargaining law, originally passed in 1983.

Wow, how often can you say that there is great news from Texas! Well, here I present to you this:

Court will redraw Texas map in boon to Democrats

Yes, remember how the Republicans re-drew the congressional map in Texas that the justice department found was inherently racist? Well, it won’t stand. The courts will instead redraw it…. and guess what:

“This most likely means three additional Democratic seats in Texas,” said former congressman Martin Frost (D), a victim of the GOP’s last redistricting map. “The GOP overreached one time too often in Texas.”

YES! This could mean that the Dems stand a better shot at retaking the house in 2012 because of TEXAS!

I guess that Republican overreach has reached all the way over and grabbed them in the butt!

    Woot !

Sorry – not buying his passion. I was going to scroll on by and say nothing, but couldn’t. His “passion” is just his shtick. When he told the middle class to stay home in 2010, knowing what the consequences of that would be to the lives of real people, that was it for me. I’ll never give him credit for caring about the middle class after that, because there are people who have now been harmed because some people stayed home to teach the Democrats and President Obama a lesson.

I guess that “Hispanic outreach” ain’t working for the GOP:

New Poll Puts Obama Far Ahead of GOP With Latino Voters

CHICAGO – President Obama holds leads over the top three Republican presidential candidates in a new national poll conducted by Latino Decisions for Univision, with the president enjoying far wider advantages among Latino voters, an area of strength that could ultimately prove crucial come next year’s election.

One year before Election Day 2012, the president leads GOP front-runners Herman Cain, Mitt Romney and Rick Perry with advantages that are outside the poll’s 3.1 percent margin for error, according to the poll results released today. Among registered voters nationwide, Obama holds the largest lead over Perry at 10 percent, with his edge over Romney at 9 percent. Cain, meanwhile, is within 6 percent of the president…

Well what is it that Hispanic voters have against the GOP? Well I guess Marco Rubio as VP will change their minds /snark.

CLEVELAND, Ohio —  Early returns from four counties — including Lake and Lorain in Northeast Ohio — show that state Issue 3 is winning by a 66 percent to 34 percent ratio.

The issue is a proposal to prevent Ohioans from being forced to participate in a health care system. The official language says it is a proposal to “preserve the freedom of Ohioans to choose their health care.”

The issue was spurred by the federal Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, particularly the federal law’s requirement that everyone carry insurance or pay a penalty if they do not.

    I just don’t get this…

    • 103 globalcitizenlinda
      November 8, 2011 at 8:56 pm

locally, this issue did not receive ANY attention because passage of this anti-healthcare mandate does not have ANY impact on the health care law since Federal laws tramp state laws . even the Ohio OFA did not do any official education and/or mobilization against this issue because it is moot and was put on the ballot as a kind of motivator for the teabagger to come out.

once this anti-healthcare law stands, then the Feds will just takeover from Ohio and let federal law stand in for state law.

Yes, Columbus Ohio just re-elected our Dem Mayor Michael Coleman – a permanent unaplogetic supporter of President Obama from the very beginning!!!! .

For those of you who are not very familiiar with Ohio politics, Mayor Coleman was one of the very few prominent Dems in Ohio that supported President Obama from the start of his announcing.

I will NEVER NEVER forget how we had to fight the local Ohio Dems to give us a little support for then-Senator Obama’s first official rally in Columbus!!!

The local Dems party refused to give us even a list of who were registered Dems in Ohio so that we could alert them about the then-Senator Obama’s rally in Columbus. We practically had to develop our own list of Obama-supporters by doing garage sells, barbeques, sports events, tabling and of course knocking on doors. we were completely ignored by the party machine and our work was almost exclusively grassroot based

When the time for the rally came Mayor Coleman was the highest ranking elected Dem at the event and he introduced Candidate Obama. I will share with you the photos I took standing with other volunteers and Candidate Obama who thanked us one by one for all we had done to make it possible and it was my first time shaking hands and talking one-on-one with PBO.

So, please celebrate the re-election of Mayor Coleman because he has stood with, worked for and promoted PBO every single time.

  24. November 8, 2011 at 8:48 pm

I am so confused, why does Ohio not like the presidents health care law-

CLEVELAND, Ohio —  Early returns from four counties — including Lake and Lorain in Northeast Ohio — show that state Issue 3 is winning by a 66 percent to 34 percent ratio.

The issue is a proposal to prevent Ohioans from being forced to participate in a health care system.

The official language says it is a proposal to “preserve the freedom of Ohioans to choose their health care.”

The issue was spurred by the federal Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, particularly the federal law’s requirement that everyone carry insurance or pay a penalty if they do not.

The official ballot language says the issue would “preserve the freedom of Ohioans to choose their health care and health care coverage.”

Critics of the issue, however, say it would affect much more than health care choices.

The language of the proposed constitutional amendment is so broad that some fear it could bar schools from requiring immunizations for new diseases and impede state regulation of health insurers.

The issue does not block the federal health care bill – should it ultimately prevail in the Supreme Court – from going into effect in Ohio. But it would prevent Ohio from enacting a Massachusetts-style health care system.

    • 140 hopefruit2
      November 8, 2011 at 8:54 pm

I don’t think Ohio “does not like the President’s health care law.” I think that Issue 3 is about one very specific thing and is worded in such a way to make people want to vote “yes.” If the Issue 3 was worded “to preserve the President’s health care law” we would see a very different outcome.

      • 141 globalcitizenlinda
        November 8, 2011 at 9:14 pm

you are right. wording of the issue was not straight foward and voter education on it was nil. word is that the people who put it on the ballot messed up and it will have to be undone

even Dems and OFA did not mobilize for it because passage would have no legal impact on the AHCA – just a vehicle for teabagers to let off steam.

local professors said that a vote for this issue could even nullify a lot things like compeling divorced parents to provide healthcare for their kids as part of the child support so it will be overturned in the Ohio courts.

it seems this is not the end of this issue

    • 142 EDP4BHO
      November 8, 2011 at 9:00 pm

“preserve the freedom of Ohioans to choose their health care.”

There’s your answer. People are very lazy to read something in depth pertaining to their day to day. If they already have health care, they will not see the benefit of any changes, everyone else be damned. This issue has never been easy to persuade folks…..too wordy maybe, but it sure didn’t help to have those nameless creatures using nebulous language to confuse folks.

      • 144 COS
        November 8, 2011 at 9:23 pm

I wonder if this will effect the portions of the healtcare law already in effect?

        • November 8, 2011 at 10:20 pm

That is very true. The wording of a lot of these issues have language that needs to be read very carefully. Most people look at the issue and then see so many words within that issue, they just get tired, and do not take the time to read the entire item on the ballot .

Then most of them just look at the first few words which in a lot of cases are very powerful and eye catching;and they check off their vote. But the details are further down within the issue that they have been presented with to vote on. That is the sad and awful thing that happens but in most cases, it is too late for the voter. It is sad.HZ

Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi has confirmed he intends to resign after key economic reforms have been approved.

His announcement follows a vote in parliament on the budget in which he appeared to lose his majority.

Both allies and opponents have been urging Mr Berlusconi to step down as Italy’s debt crisis grows.

    ….

The euro rose sharply against the dollar following the news of Mr Berlusconi’s decision. 🙂 🙂 🙂

    Go OH, please do it!

Meanwhile, my take on Cain’s presser: he’s going to dis-Able the lie de-tester because he detests anything that doesn’t support his Nein, Nein, Nein plan. Boring song, we’ve heard those lyrics before! The woman he compared heights w/ to his wife will come in front of cameras tomorrow and be way taller than his chinny-chin-chin! Now that would tickle my sense of wicked humor! Dood, please exit stage right, away from the mikes, Thomas is waiting in the wings for you! No person should have to put up with that behavior @ the workplace or anywhere!

ugh, I’m really disgusted by those people outside Coach Joe’s House cheering him on like he won some great victory. Ugh, there are real victims of that Sadusky guy. Joe P, is NOT the one who needs support in all this.

I would love any of those outside Joe P’s home cheering to look at their sons or nephews or lil brothers and decide how appropriate these “cheers for Paterno” would feel is it was their loved ones who were preyed upon.

Seriously he a goddamn football coach, not a god. Is football so important to some people?

BTW, I’m not really sure if ole dude should resign or not. That’s up to him and Penn State but damn crowds cheering at his house is just too much for me, IMHO.

    Go OH, please do it!

My take on the Cain presser: he’s going to dis-Able the lie de-tester because he detests anything that doesn’t support his Nein, Nein, Nein Plan. But, after he’s destroyed the detester, he’ll hook up to it. Take the mike away, we’ve heard those lyrics before! My wicked sense of humor would be tickled if tomorrow’s next woman to come forth in front of the mikes is way taller than Cain’s chinny-chin-chin, since he put that tid-bit out there! Dood, exit stage T-right already, Thomas is waiting for you in the wings. Come to think of it, there’s a Club membership with your name on it.

Thanks, this took me away from the results for a minute.

Sorry, Chips, I forgot that I’d cleared my cookies, so my upthread comment didn’t come up right away cos I didn’t have my signon, so I re-wrote. Please feel free to delete either one, keep one. I was writing on the fly and hit “post” before I realized that I hadn’t put in my name, etc. Thoughts are the equal! Bless!

Out of all the controversial stuff being voted on today, this “personhood” amendment is the most disturbing of all. Hoping and praying that the NO numbers increase and this is soundly defeated. It’s just evil, backwards, ignorant stuff. 👿

What a wonderful day! All the canvassing and phone banking is paying off……Bring it on in 2012!

Yes, ladies we do have a handsome President. But…..(yes, I did say but)……He looks so much better with The First Lady. That purple dress is such a knockout…she looks so lovely in that color. And they just compliment each other. Whenever pics are posted here with them miles apart, at the end of the day it makes me feel good to know and I am so grateful that he has her to come home to. Their love for each other makes me smile. Yes, she is lucky but so is he. The women in my family are so encouraged by this couples’ genuine love for each other. We pray for them daily.

I listen to her speak, and her questions and answers segment and she was just wonderful. So down to earth, real, and seem to be speaking from her heart. I say it everyday, so let me say it again. I am so proud of this First Lady. I think the world of her. Oh yea that husband of hers ain’t so bad either.

Love that top image of the President and the staff and children in the Head Start. I taught at a Head Start myself so that image just feels very special to me.
