It’s the baby whisperer!

SFGate: President Obama spent only a few hours in San Francisco on Tuesday, but he took just seconds to prove once again why he’s the baby whisperer.

Moments after landing at San Francisco International Airport on Air Force One, Obama greeted San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee before making a beeline to a crowd of well-wishers on the tarmac.

Obama spotted 6-month-old Josie Knight, who was crying while being held by her mother, Gina Odom, 37, of Oakland. Odom, a real estate agent who had received an invitation to meet Obama, had dressed her daughter in her prettiest pink outfit for the occasion.

“It’s OK,” the president said repeatedly, taking the squalling infant into his arms.

The baby didn’t seem to know what was going on and cried for a moment longer before calming. Obama bounced gently and held her for about 10 seconds before flashing a smile and returning her to Odom.

…. “She was crying and he grabbed her and kind of soothed her,” Odom said. “He asked, ‘How old is she?’ and I said, ‘Six months.’ He kind of laughed and said, ‘I think she’s hungry.’ He just held her and gave her back to me.”

The incident evoked memories of when Obama similarly soothed a crying baby outside the White House in June. “You know, I just think he’s a natural,” Odom said. “He’s obviously a dad. He knew to bring her close, and he kind of whispered and just soothed her.”

Thanks Tulips

    Good Morning TOD family

So nice to have time to check in with everybody. The President looks so relaxed in the first photo, remember… he’s got this.

I am still looking for names to add to the list of TOD folks who want to find other folks who visit the blog and live in their state.

Check out the page found at http://www.whatisworking.com/2011/10/tod-participants-found-in-states.html

If you want to be added to the list, please post your name and location here or at WIW.

Once I get some free time we can add twitter accounts, facebook pages, whatever you guys want to go on the page. It might also be nice to have a person who gathers the email addresses for their state. I don’t think we want to make that public, but we could figure out a way to share that information with each other..

VIDEO: Martin Bashir Show: Prof. Jeffrey Sachs unloads on Perry’s Tax Plan

Rick Perry Shows Why He Got a D in Economics

    ======================================

Back in August, Americans learned that among Rick Perry’s miserable grades in college was a “D” in “Principles of Economics.” Now we know why. His contribution to the GOP’s flat tax one-upsmanship not only fails to simply the U.S. tax code. As it turns out, Governor Perry’s “Cut, Balance and Grow” scheme would undermine Social Security, produce mountains of debt and require draconian spending cuts, all while ensuring a massive windfall for the wealthy.
    .
    .
At the end of the day, Rick Perry’s numbers simply don’t add up. But that should come as no surprise. After all, at Texas A&M he averaged a C in algebra and trigonometry, and got that D in economics. Which is why Perry took a break from his pitching his “Cut, Balance and Grow” plan to say to President Obama:

“Say, how about let’s see your grades and your birth certificate.”

Can we get this money back to the us. . . checking on updates to this.

Missing $6.6 Billion Found In Central Bank Of Iraq | A mystery over the disappearance of $6.6 billion of U.S.-controlled Iraq reconstruction funds has been solved after a Pentagon audit concluded the money was transferred to the Central Bank of Iraq and not, as some had feared, lost or stolen. The money was flown into Iraq as part of a $12 billion airlift following the U.S.-led invasion, but since 2010, U.S. Defense officials have been unable to explain what happened to $6.6 billion in cash designated for reconstruction projects and operating costs for the Coalition Provisional Authority. The inability to account for the money led to speculations that the funds had been stolen but Inspector General Stuart Bowen says the funds are now properly accounted for. “This report answers the question about the $6.6 billion. We conclude it properly was accounted for by the Federal Reserve Board Bank of New York and Central Bank of Iraq,” he said.

Although this is a ‘Huff-Puff’ article, when some of us, Obamabots, get somewhat “down or discouraged,” I hope this will inspire and/or uplift you to PRESS ON. It’s a MUST READ. And, as you read it, OWS is mentioned:

BATTLEGROUND NORTH CAROLINA: DEMOCRATIC WOMEN FIRED UP!…

RECOGNIZING THAT WOMEN’S RIGHTS WILL TAKE A DEVASTATING HIT IF REPUBLICANS RETURN TO POWER IN 2012, DEMOCRATIC WOMEN ARE RISING TO FACE THE CHALLENGE.

Meeting in the capital of the progressive heartland of the South, the Orange County Democratic Women heard a rising crescendo of vibrant voices calling for political action against the surge of repression now coursing through the arteries of the nation’s most embattled battleground state — North Carolina.

Their annual Legislative Brunch in Chapel Hill sold out in record time. The lucky one hundred and fifty ticket-holders passed by the Occupy Chapel Hill demonstration now in its second week on their way to a bruncheon that none of them will never forget. Organizers said they could have sold two or three times the number of tickets in the supercharged political climate amid vast political preparations for an epic ‘Battle of the South’ next year…

To prepare the audience for the forthcoming keynote address by the liberal firebrand Professor Gene Nichol, Congressman David Price called attention to the class warfare waged by the richest one percent against the poorest: “America’s richest four-hundred own more than the bottom one-hundred and fifty million Americans. The top one percent own sixty percent of our national wealth.”

DESCRIBING NORTH CAROLINA AS A “SWING STATE,” Congressman Price declared that NORTH CAROLINA WAS DEFINITELY IN PLAY FOR 2012 WHERE DEMOCRATS ARE STAGING AN AGGRESSIVE CAMPAIGN IN THE STATE THAT DELIVERED THEIR MOST TENUOUS OF VICTORIES IN THE LAST PRESIDENTIAL CYCLE. Obama became the first Democrat to carry North Carolina since 1976 when Jimmy Carter won the presidency. Obama won North Carolina with a razor thin margin of only 14,177 votes out of more than four million cast. “JUST LOOK AT WAKE COUNTY!” Price exclaimed, WHERE DEMOCRATS TURNED OUT EN MASSE LESS THAN TWO WEEKS AGO AND SOUNDLY DEFEATED THE REPUBLICAN SLATE BACKED BY ART POPE, NORTH CAROLINA’S BILLIONAIRE HENCHMAN FOR THE RIGHT-WING IDEOLOGY OF CHARLES AND DAVID KOCH.

Brandishing a handmade sign proclaiming, “99%,” the next speaker, popular State Senator Ellie Kinnaird, arrived at the bruncheon shortly after making her appearance before Occupy Chapel Hill at the Franklin Street Post Office. Articulating demands for economic justice and bank reform, Kinnaird raised the specter of Bush’s wars and the explosive growth of America’s national debt to define the current financial crisis as, “Trillions wasted on war!”

State Representative Alice Bordsen called for the syncopation of national and local messaging, while Democratic Women of North Carolina’s Vice President, Joan Dressler, announced active organizations in sixty-one counties plus a strong alliance with Lillian’s List, North Carolina’s powerful and impressive stand-alone pro-choice committee dedicated to electing progressive pro-choice women to the General Assembly. In recent days, Lillian’s List rallied five-hundred strong in Raleigh to hear a powerful message from Donna Brazile.

But, THE DAY WOULD BELONG TO GENE NICHOL, the outspoken professor of law at UNC, WHO DELIVERED A RIVETING JEREMIAD RIPPLING WITH PENETRATING PUNCHLINES ORCHESTRATED AGAINST A LEITMOTIF OF BITTERLY INCISIVE INVECTIVE SKEWERING THE REPUBLICAN RADICALISM NOW INFECTING THE AMERICAN ELECTORATE…

RIPPING RIGHT INTO THE HEART OF THE MATTER OF REPUBLICAN RADICALISM, Nichol sallied forth into oratorical battle:

And when they come together, for their version of debate and discourse; the crowd boos a soldier returning from Iraq because he’s gay; they applaud the idea of letting Americans die unattended in hospital emergency rooms; and they cheer the efficiency of Texas’ express lane for executions – a lane open only to the poor and marginalized….

STRIKING A CHORD WITH THE AUDIENCE OF PROGRESSIVE DEMOCRATIC WOMEN, Nichol zeroed in on the specter of Republican prejudice:

In the Congress, Republicans are so completely and unalterably focused on assuring that a brilliant young black man NOT be re-elected president, that they would say, over and over again, to millions and millions of uninsured, unemployed, uncompensated, unfed, un-housed, uneducated, unsafe, and now unbelieving Americans: ‘Too bad,’ your desperation is not as important as our intransigence, our pretend ideology; our belief that the only thing wrong with America is those at the bottom have too much and those at the top don’t have enough. We’ve planted our flag. There we’ll stand…

DEMOCRATIC WOMEN ARE NOW LEADING THE BATTLE FOR THEIR RIGHTS AND THE RIGHTS OF OTHERS TO LIVE IN THE AMERICA THEY INHERITED, THE AMERICA THAT IS NOW THREATENED WITH IMMINENT DISSOLUTION BY WALL STREET AND ITS INSIDIOUS REAGANITE CREED: ‘GREED IS GOOD.’

This woman is crazeeeeee! Bachmann Says Perry’s Tax Plan Is an ‘Imitation’ of Mine

Hannity asked Bachmann what she thought of Texas Gov. Rick Perry’s flat tax plan —introduced Tuesday — and the proposals made by former House Speaker Newt Gingrich and businessman Herman Cain.

“I actually like what Governor Perry is coming up with because it’s — in essence — my plan,” Bachmann said. “They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, and I’ve been talking for months about a simpler, flatter system that you can do on — do on a postcard and send in. And so I’m grateful that Governor Perry has endorsed my plan and adopted it.

“My plan has everyone paying something. I disagree with Governor Perry and with Herman Cain and various other plans where they — where they don’t require every American to pay something,” she said. “I’m a federal tax lawyer — I firmly believe that every American should pay something, even if it’s just a dollar. Everybody needs to pay something because this year, we have 51 percent of the American people who aren’t paying anything”

Elizabeth on The View! Sigh again! What a b word! Chatting about Obama on Leno after airing a couple of clips, she says she admits she likes Obama personally but then went off on a long list of his failures, saying he’s in big trouble, saying he may have been funny last night but he’s not so funny today when the majority disapprove of his presidency etc. etc etc. I saw her look down and read from her RNC talking points on the subject. And this show—sigh! -there is never any smart challenge to her partisan rants. I always wish there was a TOD participant on that panel, loaded with facts, who could set the record straight.

She really is a bitch. I’m watching the show also and she is one of the most ignorant people to have ever polluted the tv universe. Her family(mother, father, brother) is liberal and she is a right wing nut job. She parrots fox news crap all day everyday. She’s not smart, not logical, and does not think for herself. The funny thing is that as the GOP clown debates go on and more Americans are exposed to their toxicity, Elizabeth gets even more desperate and becomes more unraveled because she is scared shitless that they have no credible sane person to take on President Obama. She sees the writing on the wall and everytime she prefaces her scathing degradation of PBO, with “Oh I like him personally, he’s a great dad and a great husband I believe, I don’t know if that’s true personally but that’s what I’ve heard” one sees just how unhinged she is. The audience even seems like they’re tired of her bs. I love how Joy Behar told her today that President Obama isn’t worried about the GOP field because they’re full of crazy people like Cain, Bachmann, Perry, and Romney and that PBO will win in 2012 because the American people know that he has accomplished a lot on their behalves. That shut that screeching harpy up.

The Marine Corps has come a long way.

  30. October 26, 2011 at 11:55 am

LOL! Will someone please get the popcorn….

For readers who have followed voting rights issues for a long time, you’ll want to check this out. The Justice Department thinks it has the sort of evidence of racially discriminatory redistricting that you would only dream up for a law school exam: actual emails from Rep. Lamar Smith (R-TX), pictured, discussing ways to dilute the Hispanic vote in Texas when they redrew congressional districts this year.

You can practically hear the DOJ lawyers high-fiving each other in their brief to the court:

While the existence of contemporaneous statements of direct racial intent related to current redistricting efforts may be rare, the email exchanges between United States Congressional representatives and staff, and State officials involved in devising the State’s plans, provide riveting circumstantial evidence bearing witness to the process discussed above, where data as to race and ethnicity rather than partisan data drove the line drawing for the proposed Congressional plan, and where the State sought to exclude minority representatives from the redistricting process.

Here’s the kicker: Gov. Rick Perry signed that discriminatory redistricting plan into law in Texas. So this is a story with national political implications on multiple levels.

The penguin vid—–I guess there’s bad guys in every species, those willing to steal from the hard work of others to reap rewards for themselves. Very Republican behavior. I hope that subversive, thieving Repub penguin lost out in the end and the hard working, Dem penguin attracted the cutest, smartest gal to his nest, and they lived happily ever after.

The President was just heckled – not sure the topic – but he responded directly and said “We’re looking into it; I know how deeply concerned you are about it.” What a gentleman. He both understands that people have real issues, and also goes on to address them – no matter if it’s a heckler or not.
