President Barack Obama sat down for a “Tonight Show” appearance with Jay Leno Tuesday, answering questions about everything from Moamar Ghadafi’s death to the war in Iraq, approval ratings and the current round of GOP debates.

In brief excerpts released by NBC some eight hours before the show was due to air, Obama appeared to draw the biggest laugh when, in response to a question about whether he was watching the Republican debates, he replied, “I’m going to wait until everybody’s voted off the island. Once they narrow it down to one or two, I’ll start paying attention.”

Obama received a standing ovation from the audience when he walked onstage for his fourth appearance on the Leno show, and his second as president.

with NBC producer Michelle Tasoff

Bryan Branly: After the show, I was lucky enough to be introduced to the President backstage. Jay told the President (referring to me), “That’s how you looked in college!” The President said, “Afros are hard work Jay.” I wish all you who follow these blogs could have been with me. It was a day to remember!

no – it’s true. My cat jumped on me at 5am, and I thought, “I should get up and crawl over to NBC, and find a place to park – ACK – and try to get in to the taping.” Then, as I contemplated how long it would take me to get remotely presentable, so the SS wouldn’t mistake me for some old hungover homeless woman with no caffeine at that hour, with my cat purring all cuddled up next to me…. I woke up and it was 8am. Then I turned on the KTLA morning news, and saw the line half way to Glendale with people waiting since last night like it was the iPhone 4Steve launch day at the Apple Store.

        so…. I got ready for work. 😥

I saw on Twitter earlier that WH had closed the SF press pool to local media – only national press. An article from SF Gate was complaining about it. Apparently at an event earlier this year a local print reporter took video of a protest at his event & it upset the WH.

  9. October 25, 2011 at 2:46 pm

PRESIDENTIAL RESUME: Michelle Obama kicked into campaign mode today as she told voters in Detroit that her husband has accomplished lots since being elected president.

The pool reports that Obama mentioned the new health care law, the killing of Osama bin Laden, and the most recent development, ending the war in Iraq.

“The fact is that in a little over a year from now, we’re going to make a decision between two very different views of our nation,” she said. “It’s not about us. We’re not fighting these battles for ourselves. We’re fighting them for our sons and daughters.”

  10. October 25, 2011 at 2:46 pm

Oh, President Obama looks so relaxed and good. Republicans got nothing on our president. Was watching stupid Andrea Mitchell (don’t ask me why because I really don’t know) and that Chris Cilliza guy mentioned that the Repubs are bashing PBO for appearing on Leno. And she actually defended the President saying the Repubs do Leno all the time. I was shocked.

Wow. I always thought he was a Repub.
        An old interview:

Jay Leno says, “I’m not conservative. I’ve never voted that way in my life.” He “really worries” what a Dubya victory in November will do to the makeup of the Supreme Court. He believes “the wool was pulled over our eyes” with the Iraq war. He thinks the White House began using terrorism “as a crutch” after 9/11.

I guess you really can’t tell how someone leans just by looking at them.

Here’s my take on Cain’s real role in this election cycle. He is a vector for Wingnut looney ideas in a whole new way, and here’s how, I think:

Cain is being used to infect the public consciousness with sugarcoated dangerous ideas. He is the corporate candidate-in-a-box as Maddow said, seemingly non-threatening, but whose stock-in-trade is lethally infectious. His is a ruthlessly market-tested schtick of selling poison like a TV commercial/infomercial does.

The avuncular disguise is deliberate to give truly venal ideas a palatable veneer. His role is not to peel off/neuter black support or even absolve Wingnut racism. His role is to dupe poor whites into feeling comfortable to vote corporate interests without a second thought. i.e. “it must be really okay to dismantle social security if even the black guy says so.” Kinda like the reassuring voice of Dennis Haysbert “You are in good hands with Allstate” insurance commercials.

He is Citizen’s United campaign-in-a-box being road-tested. Koch money is in the other candidates too but Cain is born and bread in the libertarian corporate lab exactly like a zombie. If he goes far, look out for future 100% Koch zombies, all interchangeable.

It will be the ultimate triumph of the total perversion of corporate personhood. The corps will not need to bribe existing politicians if they can lab-create their own from scratch. In fact they will not even need an existing political party with its infrastructure. Notice how everyone is puzzled that Cain has no campaign structure in Iowa or New Hampshire. He doesn’t need one. The Kochtopus IS a self-contained party infrastructure incubating in the Republican party.

If they succeed in gaining sufficient ground, next time look out for them to go independent of the Repugs just like David Koch did earlier in his career.

“What the cynics fail to understand is that the ground has shifted beneath them.” — Pres. Obama (1/20/2009)

If anyone who knows how—-not me—-can retrieve the Martin Bashir interview today with Prof. Sachs, it was all about Cain and Perry, and it was confirming much of what you’re saying—–and worse. The ultimate plan is to do away with government completely, it’s an absolutely frightening prospect. That’s why they don’t want taxes, won’t need them if there’s no govt. I was reminded of one of the series of questions I got last night from the Rasmussen poll——which govt. departments I wanted to eliminate, starting with the dept of education. When people say this next election is for all the marbles, it is for all the marbles.

GRAPHIC: A Timeline Of GOP Economic Sabotage

As the 8-minute documentary on Republican obstructionism we released today demonstrates, the GOP has made good on Sen. Mitch McConnell’s (R-KY) commitment to defeating President Obama as the party’s “top political priority.” Sabotage details the willful economic ignorance behind the conservative effort to undermine the president and win the next election — an ugly reality about the current political moment that was confirmed last month when Republicans gleefully piled onto (inaccurate) initial reports that zero net jobs had been created in August. The timeline below illustrates how Republicans have used their House majority to pick counterproductive ideological fights on everything from women’s reproductive rights to the full faith and credit of the United States, even as insufficient progress in the jobs market demands a serious and ambitious response (click to enlarge):

  17. October 25, 2011 at 3:17 pm

This was just tweeted. No link so can’t verify it. But I would not be surprised.

@GStuedler: Cain’s campaign manager was kicked out of politics for voter suppression…of blacks. Lemme say it again…he was suppressing black voters.

Ask that chump to see if he can find a time in recent history where a President took questions from an audience made up entirely of Congressional Repubs. Not a teleprompter in sight in this clip where President Obama embarrasses a RepubBot for about the 20th time that day:

Ask Mr. Rev. Moon PR hack (oh I mean “reporter”) to watch ANY of President Obama’s townhalls where he takes questions from the audience…unscreened questions from an unscreened audience, when Repubs, and especially Shrub, who even had his plants in the freakin White Press Room (remember gay male prostitute-cum-WH “reporter” just months later that Shrub would call by name as if friends…Jeff Gannon-Guckert), had every single thing they ever do be stage-managed beyond belief.

This “teleprompter” business is simply one of their favorite tactics in action…try to turn your opponents strength into a negative. President Obama is one of the better speakers and communicators (blows Ronnie Raygun out of the water, by the way) probably to ever be in Office, so they’re trying to take that away from him as much as they can (notice how that hack threw in a little bit about the lie of Raygun as the “Great Communicator?)

  25. October 25, 2011 at 4:05 pm

New Colorado poll numbers with good news for President Obama and that shows voters hate the GOP.

“At this point in the presidential race, President Obama is running against himself,” Project New West president Jill Hanauer said today. “At the same time, the Republican field is not reaching a majority of Coloradans due to their extreme views in very centrist state where voters vote for the person not the party and the policy vision, not a political ideology.”

PNW’s poll showed that 49% of likely Colorado voters view the President in a positive light, compared with 45% who have a negative opinion of him. Comparatively, Mitt Romney has a 40/38 favorable/unfavorable rating, and Rick Perry is underwater with a 29/38 rating.

Importantly, the President is even more popular with unaffiliated voters, who constitute a crucial 29% of the Colorado electorate. 54 percent of unaffiliated voters have positive feelings about the president, compared with 37% who view him negatively. Romney (38/37) and Perry (24/33) have similar ratings among Unaffiliateds as they do with the broader electorate.

The President also remains popular with Hispanic voters, who made up roughly 12% of the Colorado electorate in 2010. 2 Obama has a 59/36 approval/disapproval rating among Colorado Hispanics, compared to 31/35 for Romney and 28/39 for Perry.

PNW’s poll also showed that Republican candidates have work to do in winning over their own voters, in addition to unaffiliateds and Hispanics.

Just 44% of likely Republican 2012 caucus voters would have caucused for one of the two front-runners — Perry and Romney — when the poll was conducted. No other candidate received more than 7% support among Republicans, with 19% undecided. Mitt Romney, the winner of nearly 6 out of 10 delegates in the 2008 Colorado Caucuses, was leading the pack with just 24%. Perry was second with 20%, followed by Newt Gingrich and Michele Bachmann with 7% and Herman Cain with 5% [the poll was conducted immediately before Herman Cain’s recent ascendance].

Obama, on a three-day West Coast trip dominated by fundraisers, appeared more serious when asked about the fate of former Libyan leader Ghadafi.

“This is somebody who for 40 years terrorized his country and supported terrorism and he had an opportunity during the Arab spring to finally let loose his grip on power … and he wouldn’t do it,” he said.

“Obviously you never like to see anybody come to the kind of end he did, but it obviously sends a powerful message around the world to dictators that people long to be free.”

Obama received a standing ovation from the audience when he walked onstage for his fourth appearance on the Leno show, and his second as president.

His last appearance in March 2009 marked the first time a sitting US president had ever appeared on the show.

When I saw that women touching the President, I remembered the time at the White House when there was some kind of performance going on and the President was pulled up out of his chair by the singer and did a little dance with her. He waved his hand in his face before sitting down like ” this is way too hot”. Anyway, Michelle was NOT HAPPY. He kept looking at her, and she kept looking in the other direction. She might have bawled him out later, but he really hadn’t done anything wrong (just enjoyed the dance a bit too much). One of the things I love about this couple is the obvious love and respect they have for each other. There is no way any hanky-panky would be going on with either of them, and I would bet my life on it.

His smile is so infectious, you can not help but smile too. I am smiling and I don’t know what the conversation is about.

There is absolutely NO EXCUSE for this hooker to be laying her boobs on the President.

    Just triflin’.
