I am so enjoying this. Our Beloved President always comes up smelling like a rose. Love it!

      I am, too! Love him!

I don’t watch TV, so I have to wait for an update here. However, I have a question for you JO’B. I (sonamie) tried to follow you on twitter and discovered I was blocked. Have I offended you in some way? Since I try to watch what I say I’m curious.

Wow. I’m also at a loss, since you never offended me in any way and I haven’t “consciously” blocked anybody from TOD! Maybe I didn’t recognize your name? Sorry – off to take c/o that!

I think I know what happened. Must have gotten a follower request from you (?) and not recognized your Twitter name. Usually before I follow somebody back, I check to see if they have followers that I recognize – to avoid anybody who isn’t pro-Obama! Your tweets are “protected,” so guess when I couldn’t verify you were an Obama supporter, I blocked you.

Just sent you a follower request!

            • October 24, 2011 at 1:33 pm

😆 Oookay, JO’B, now I can follow you. Quite a relief to realize that I hadn’t stuck my foot in it without realizing it. 😉 Now I have to figure out what’s so special about my tweets that they are ‘protected’, since I really do want people to read my little offerings. I must have pushed the wrong button somewhere, if only I can rediscover where. If any of the resident TOD Twitter experts can steer me to what needs to be fixed, I’d be more than 😆 . Merci.

Chips you the greatest. We know that we won’t hear a word about this on any program. The msm can’t be caught saying anything good about the President.

I think the people know. That’s why the poll is up!

This is beautiful, chips. Perfecto! All those disingenuous scumbags, you got ’em good.

    • October 24, 2011 at 12:20 pm

Dotster, forgive me if I appear ignorant, but are the numbers true? I am not sure if Chips is “pulling my leg”?

      • October 24, 2011 at 12:25 pm

Hiya Dorothy, they’re true! There’s been a +13 point swing for the President with Gallup this week, approval up six in a week, disapproval down seven. It being Gallup, his approval will probably be down to 22 tomorrow, but it just made me laugh how this bounce was being completely ignored by the media. They’re obsessed with the polls when the news is bad, but ignore them when the President’s figures go up.

  4. October 24, 2011 at 12:33 am

Looks like you’ve been burning the midnight oil, Ms. Chips! It’s much appreciated 🙂

  6. October 24, 2011 at 12:36 am

And you know, at some point, he’s actually going to start *campaigning.* For the Election, not the Jobs Act.

All his present poll numbers show is that he can take a punch. Or rather, several thousand. Better than any President in at least half a century.

And before anyone starts thinking you have *any* idea how capable the President is, remind me to tell you about Stuxnet and a certain nuclear weapons program, and the global apocalypse apparently averted… on the side. As one of dozens of priorities. In his spare time. And almost unnoticed.

    *That’s* a story worth telling…

But in the meantime, it still boggles my mind that anybody, *especially* his opponents and avowed enemies, can *keep* underestimating this man.

I would think realizing that he’s one of the smartest and most capable people on the planet, possibly *the* smartest and most capable, would a critical insight in any attempt to work against him.

Whatever your view of his politics, the only question about his talent and intellect is just stratospheric they are.

    • October 24, 2011 at 12:49 am

Perfectly put! I want to know more about Stuxnet…..

      • October 24, 2011 at 12:58 am

I don’t usually site Wiki – but for a quick search on Stuxnet:

I’m sure you’ll remember once you start reading.

        • October 24, 2011 at 1:45 am

It’s a decent overview (especially if you follow the link to Ralph Langner’s TED talk), but most observers ignore a few things about that program, and the push to bomb Natanz in 2008-2009.

First, the Iranians hold the northern side of the Strait of Hormuz, and have access to supersonic anti-ship missiles. The Strait looks big on a map, but there are only two channels deep enough for large ships to pass through, and given the size of supertankers, there’s one continuous line of ships heading in and one heading out… all the time. About half the world’s oil passes through that bottleneck, and with two shots the Iranians could have shut it down — *before* the Administration’s alt-energy and conservation measures could have gotten fully underway. Imagine trying to dredge two supertankers in the Strait in the middle of a war, given that Very Large Crude Carriers are larger than aircraft carriers. While still engaged in Iraq and Afghanistan.

And remember, given peak oil, global energy supplies are already very constrained, and world economies and food production are overwhelmingly dependent on diesel fuel, plastics, gasoline, and so forth. An abrupt and sustained loss of global oil supplies (not to mention food imports in some Middle Eastern countries) would price most populations out of the energy market, cripple food production and trigger, at best, a global Depression, given the state of the world economy in 2008 to 2009.

Now look at Iran, realize that Natanz is fortified and buried under 22 meters of earths. Even with conventional “bunker busters,” you would be hammering that site to pieces and sending it sky high, especially given the energy and volatility of a typical reactor. Think of Fukushima Daiichi. Then look east.

What is roughly due east of Iran, very high, and catches lots of precipitation? The Plateau of Tibet you say?

And what notable bodies of water reside there? The headwaters of the rivers supplying some 3 billion people with drinking water? The Yangtze, the Yellow, the Indus, the Ganges and the Mekong, or some such? (Go look at a map. I’ve forgotten the precise details, but they’re impressive enough.)

Now realize, there’s plenty of bare rock in the Plateau, and steadily melting ice. Dump a reactor’s worth of fuel and waste there, and most of it could end up in those waters, heading downstream, very quickly. And if it got there, any ensuing panic might be a rational reaction.

Not only was all this averted, but if Langner was right, then the level of intel, diplomacy, secrecy and technical skill involved in this feat, almost certainly involving the highest echelons of the Adminstration, including, at some level, the President, are truly staggering.

  13. October 24, 2011 at 1:13 am

The U.S. will dismantle this week the last of its Cold War-era B53 nuclear bombs, the most destructive weapon in the country’s arsenal, the National Nuclear Safety Administration said today.
The 10,000-pound bomb is the size of a minivan and contains about 300 pounds of high explosive surrounding a uranium core. It was designed to be dropped from a B-52 bomber and produce an explosion 600 times more powerful than the bomb that destroyed Hiroshima, Japan, in 1945, according to the Federation of American Scientists website.
The weapon was being disassembled by Babcock & Wilcox Technical Services Pantex LLC, the contractor that operates the agency’s plant in Amarillo, Texas.
Dismantling nuclear weapons is part of President Barack Obama’s goal to reduce the role of atomic weapons in U.S. national security, Thomas D’Agostino, Under Secretary of Energy for Nuclear Security and administrator of the National Nuclear Security Administration, said in a statement.
“The world is a safer place with this dismantlement,” D’Agostino said.
The B53 bomb, which entered service in 1962, was designed by Los Alamos and Sandia National Laboratories. The U.S. began to disassemble them starting in the 1980s. The last were retired from the active U.S. arsenal in 1997, the statement from B&W Pantex said.

here is someone at least sending a loud vote of thanks to President Obama.

“President Barack Obama, US Defender in Chief” Manhattan Diary
    by Cahir O’Doherty

I think now would be an appropriate time to say thank you to President Barack Obama.

In comparison to his immediate predecessor his success in bringing the world’s most wanted terrorists and dictators to justice has been nothing short of remarkable.

In fact the contrast speaks for itself.

And for once the Arab would is thanking us by dancing in the streets rather than on our nation’s flag.

Obama has rid the world of the scourge of Osama bin Laden, Anwar al-Awlaki and Moammar Qaddafi. And all of this was accomplished within six months: if Obama were a Republican, they’d be commissioning bronze statues by now.

You know they won’t say it now or ever, so let’s say it for them: thank you President Obama for making the world and the United States safer

A heartbreaking story about life under Republican rule:

Why didn’t this good samaritan hero do something of actual value for society, such as starting on Internet company to make himself Billions for creating “click-through” ads for Internet scams, instead of saving the lives of disabled people in a natural disaster?!? (sadly, I’m being sarcastic).

The guy had a choice after all. He should’ve known, like Rand/Ron Paul-bot and all Republicans know, that the FREE MARKET “values” Sham-wow over saving the lives of the less fortunate. Now this literal life-saver is coming around begging for a free hand-out!?! The guy made a “choice” under his own “free-will,” so f-em as ALL Repubs of today would say.

Isn’t that in the Bible? Enrich thyself before helping those in need?

(by the way, the article quotes a MO Repub legislator who seems disgusted by this…well, dude, if you voted for the Bushes, Ronnie Raygun, Roy Blunt, and so on, you should shut the phuck up, dipshit. You and your fellow Repubs have created this gaddamn mess, and have enabled pure evil, and now you gotta deal with the wrath you have unleashed upon the world. You can repent by voting and campaigning for President Barack Hussein Obama, and until you do that, go phuck yourself, asswipe!) Sorry, not practicing my WWOD (Would Would Obama Do?), but damn, I quite literally cannot believe stories like this.

  26. October 24, 2011 at 6:12 am

What a fantastic way to start Monday with those headlines! lol.

Here’s something that should also be headlines; what has happened already in Tunisia; free press, 90% turnout of all registered voters, 50% elected Parliament must be women, etc. etc. Juan Cole does a terrific summary here even though the vote is still being counted:

If what happens in Tunisia with democracy and free elections really does spread through Egypt, Libya and other MENA countries, what a momentous time of change and real freedom for our fellow citizens of the world.

Good Morning TOD – Chips this thread is brlliant! 🙂 🙂 🙂

We get to start the day with this really great piece from can you believe it GOPolitico

I want post the link but here is the article in its entireity:

President Barack Obama has a few very funny people on his side.

Will Ferrell was honored with the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor at the Kennedy Center on Sunday night, and many of the comedians on the red carpet – including the man of the hour himself – had nothing but good things to say about the president.

Ferrell, who paid a visit to the White House briefing room on Friday, said that he “most definitely” wants Obama to win another term.

Wearing a black velvet jacket, Ferrell – who is known, among many comedic roles, for his impersonation of former President George W. Bush – told POLITICO that Obama has faced some unprecedented challenges. “Every president has a hard job but I think his is times ten,” Ferrell said, adding that he likes that Obama “thinks before he speaks.”

Fellow “Saturday Night Live” alum Molly Shannon agreed that the president deserves more credit for what he has accomplished. “We have to look at the big picture, all of the good that he has done, and not be too black and white, too microscopic in our thinking,” she said.

Obama is doing a “great job,” said Tim Meadows, another former “SNL” cast member. “It’s easy for white liberals to turn their backs on Obama,” he said, complaining that many people who used to support the president have jumped ship. “I don’t like how people are so wishy-washy,” he said.

Not in the wishy-washy category: Comedian Jack Black. “There’s a lot of haters out there, but I’m not one of them,” he said, declaring: “Obama all the way.”

“I know that the economy is in the tank…” said Black, “but I think he saved us from deep catastrophe.” Plus, Black added with a smirk: “[Obama] will have anybody killed. … He’s not afraid to make that phone call.”

        October 24, 2011 at 9:53 am

CNN had to use ancient tape of Matt Damon to make their false case though. And a very old tape of Melissa Ethridge. The piece looked like sheer desperation to prove that Obama has lost Hollywood. And then at the end, they kinda said it looks like Hollywood will back him after all. It was the height of stupidity. Like saying African Americans have abandoned him by featuring one guy somewhere who said something negative about Obama once. Same with all their other pieces on other Dem demographics to prove that people are jumping ship. One person in Oklahoma does not a movement make.

I don’t know why I still am, but I’m always pleasantly surprised to discover another example of the President’s administration whistling, conducting, listening, and dancing all at the same time! America has never had it so good with its leadership! Even without comprehending all that the President is doing I hope SHE gives him 4 more years in a landslide, just so he can show her how the presidency really should work for all citizens.

  38. October 24, 2011 at 8:31 am

    OFA volunteers:

Our Northern California group just got an invitation to take part in a ccall today with the Chicago HQ Youth Vote team to learn how OFA plans to engage students and youth over the course of the campaign. I’m thrilled because I believe youth will be one of our most important voting blocks. The Youth Vote team is going to introduce its new brand, Greater Together, and share how it highlights the work being done on campuses nationwide. There will be an online tour of the new youth vote website, which includes a powerful, shareable video highlighting the President’s youth-specific accomplishments. The Youth Vote team will then take questions.

I’m wondering if this is a national or a regional call. Did anybody else get this invitation?

Before 2008 you heard nary a peep from any of these “outraged” individuals about money in politics.

  40. October 24, 2011 at 8:58 am

As usual, the POTUS is PRESSING ON! He’s refuses to wait…for…others… to…catch…up…while so many people are suffering.~

Jobs Plan Stalled, Obama to Try New Economic Drive: Executive Orders BABY!!!!

With his jobs plan stymied in Congress by Republican opposition, President Obama on Monday will begin a series of executive-branch actions to confront housing, education and other economic problems over the coming months, heralded by a new mantra: “We can’t wait” for lawmakers to act. According to an administration official, Mr. Obama will kick off his new offensive in Las Vegas, ground zero of the housing bust, by promoting new rules for federally guaranteed mortgages so that more homeowners, those with little or no equity in their homes, can refinance and avert foreclosure.

And Wednesday in Denver, the official said, Mr. Obama will announce policy changes to ease college graduates’ repayment of federal loans, seeking to alleviate the financial concerns of students considering college at a time when states are raising tuition.

The “We can’t wait” campaign is a new phase in Mr. Obama’s so-far unsuccessful effort — punctuated until now by his cries of “Pass this bill!” on the stump — to pressure Republicans to support the job creation package he proposed after Labor Day. It comes after unanimous votes by Senate Republicans in the past week to block the plan; House Republican leaders have refused to put the measure to a vote.

Polls show overwhelming support for pieces of the $447 billion package, which includes expanded tax cuts for workers and employers, and spending for infrastructure projects and for state aid to keep teachers and emergency responders at work. But Republicans oppose provisions in Mr. Obama’s plan that would offset the costs with higher taxes on the wealthy.

Should the bill ultimately fail, Democrats believe they at least have the better political argument, and they vow to exploit what they call the Republicans’ obstruction in the 2012 campaign.

Maybe some of the ignorant Americans who don’t have a clue about how their government works, will finally get the message that CONGRESS (LEGISLATIVE BRANCH) IS NOT DOING THEIR JOB. Specifically, the GOP is blocking job creation. But it should be clear that President Obama (EXECUTIVE BRANCH) will be doing everything in power to spur job creation.

What I love about this is that is shows the sense of urgency needed to tackle job creation. This is a crisis that attention now. President Obama has given the Republicans in congress every opportunity to do the right thing for the country. This is just another way to keep ratcheting up the pressure.

I can’t wait to hear President Obama talk about these new developments as he continues to take his case to the American people.
