GOPolitico: President Obama returns to DC weary, depressed and decidedly downcast after bus tour

GOPolitico: Tension in Obama marriage?

So, I started this Drive for Five (Thousand) this evening…

….. thinking it would take a week or three to get even close. But a couple of hours later….

You people are amazing. Thank you so much.

(Just to make absolutely clear, this money goes direct to Obama/Biden 2012 at barackobama.com, not to The Obama Diary!)

See you tomorrow 😉

Michelle will travel to Chgo next Tues. for mtgs. with Mayor Rahm and other mayors on issues related to making nutritional food available to underserved areas and for a couple of fundraisers. Guess who’s travelling with her—-everyone’s boyfriend (in their dreams), Sam Kass. I imagine there will be plenty here who will be eagerly anticipating those yummy and delicious and nutritious photos. 🙂

    Soldiers burn O’Reilly books

U.S. forces stationed in a remote area of Afghanistan recently received about 20 copies of Bill O’Reilly’s book “Pinheads and Patriots.” Their orders upon receiving the tomes: Burn them, according to a tumblr account maintained anonymously by a soldier.

Some jerk sent us two boxes of this awful book (SPOILER ALERT: George Washington — Patriot; George Soros — Pinhead) instead of anything soldiers at a remote outpost in Afghanistan might need, like, say, food or soap. Just burned the whole lot of them on my Commander’s orders.

of course gopolitioo had to spin it at the end.

Director Spike Lee is definitely not jumping on the Herman Cain train.

Lee tweeted on Wednesday, “Today’s NY Times Herman Cain says he wants his SECRET CODENAME to be ‘CORNBREAD’ when he becomes president of The United States. NEGRO PLEASE.”

On Tuesday, Lee wrote that he was surprised to learn that he and Cain attended the same school. “WAKE UP. I was shocked to know GOP Candidate Mr. Herman Cain went to MOREHOUSE. He may be my Morehouse brother, but I can’t support him. HELL NO,” he tweeted.

perry sux. so what else is new ?

The day after a fierce debate with his Republican presidential rivals on Wednesday, Texas Gov. Rick Perry couldn’t spark much momentum among GOP insiders for his lagging presidential campaign.

Perry was the first of a parade of GOP candidates speaking to a group that should be one of his strongest constituencies — conservative Republican activists from 16 states meeting here for a four-day Western Republican Leadership Conference.

There was little enthusiasm for Perry’s candidacy.

Lorianne Kaserman of Stateline, Nev., said she was a “huge Perry fan” before the Tuesday debate.

“Now, I’m not,” she said, after watching Perry interrupt former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney during a clash over immigration.

The First Lady said when it comes to the girls, she and President Obama really “fight for their normalcy” and that includes traveling with them, when possible, “outside of this bubble.” She also tries to make the girls’ home as normal as possible, even though it is the White House. “The first thing is establishing rules among the staff that they’re not little princesses,” she told us. “They have to make their beds, they have to clean up their rooms, they have to — Sasha has started doing the laundry, Malia was supposed to be doing it but (Sasha) is really into laundry. My mom still does her own laundry,” she said.

Making the rooms really kid-friendly also helps, she said, but ultimately “it’s really the interaction that we have as a family that makes it feel like a home.” Yes, it will feel like a normal American family when you hear this. “It’s sitting down at the dinner table and having Barack’s day be really the last thing anyone really cares about,” she said to laughter. “So he’s sort of the throw-on piece. It’s like, ‘Oh yeah, Daddy, and what did you do today?”

      🙂 🙂 🙂

Glad to see Rachel Maddow noticed what I did in the GOP debate when Romney put his hand on Perry’s shoulder. When Gore walked up to GW in a debate he was considered over the line, not presidential and inappropriate. I heard no criticism of Romney for the hand on Perry’s shoulder. The other thing I caught Romney saying is his utterance about “I can’t have illegals working here. I am running for office.” as if he wasn’t running for office it would not matter.

THE THREE PILLARS OF RETIREMENT (Pensions, 401K, Social Security)

Rachel Maddow is doing some very informative and disturbing reporting on the perils of retirement in America today. She is taking time to explain each of the three pillars of retirement and how they have changed over time. Essentially, pensions and 401K’s have been surrendered to Wall Street. Is it any surprise that the Republican Party is working so feverishly to polish off the three legged stool and surrender Social Security to Wall Street? We can’t let that happen.

Apparently, Herman Cain thinks the OWS protesters shouldn’t be making demands of Wall Street, they should be protesting in front of the White House. The mind reels.

Reid filed for cloture on the part about teachers and firefighters.
But, the deal was to have another part of the jobs act, also file for cloture vote Friday.
That part of the jobs act, apparently, the republicans support.
Thus, 2 votes on the jobs act Friday! We better start calling and writing our senators!
So, something small will pass Friday…

I wasn’t aware of that either. But I’m not particularly surprised. Of course you won’t hear about this in the MSM..oh no…they’re more concerned about the size of Obama’s bus tour crowds.

I’m seriously thinking of boycotting my cable provider (Comcast) which is as good as a Republican propaganda machine. I won’t pay hefty cable/internet fees just to be deliberately misinformed. I just need to find out about other tv/internet options in my area.

  30. October 19, 2011 at 11:06 pm

The repeal effort is popular now in Ohio. A Quinnipiac University poll last month showed 51 percent of Ohio voters would repeal the law, and another 38 percent support the overhaul. But most observers expect those numbers to tighten as the conservative group Building a Better Ohio, which backs the law, ramps up spending on television ads. The bill’s supporters received a boost this weekend when the editorial board of The Plain Dealer, a Cleveland newspaper based in the traditionally Democratic stronghold of Cuyahoga County, endorsed a “yes” vote to keep the law.

Democrats and unions hope to tap into the 1.3 million Ohioans who signed petitions to get the referendum on November ballots. And they see Ohio as a chance to rehearse their get-out-the-vote efforts for next year’s presidential campaign.

“The referendum vote in Ohio is huge,” former AFL-CIO political director Steve Rosenthal said. “A victory on the initiative will provide a huge boost to labor and progressives on the whole. A loss would hurt, but the organizational infrastructure that has been built for this campaign will carry over into a major effort to win in 2012.”

        October 19, 2011 at 11:56 pm

His major problem is that he is a racist. A bigot. Xenophobic. And just plain disgusting. Why MSNBC treats him like he is some elder statesman with an opinion worth hearing, is beyond me. He shames the network, but more than that, he, and people like him, shame America.

    • 65 utaustinliberal
      October 20, 2011 at 12:02 am

Shame on MSNBC for hiring this racist imbecile. He’s decrying the death of white America and white males and saying that African-Americans and Hispanics will make this country dumb due to their “low test scores,” that the repug party is losing its white control due to the “hispanicizing” of the South, that President Obama is filling up all parts of the administration with women, African-Americans and Hispanics and white men are being left behind. The racist and prejudiced slurs he spews in his book is pure filth. He just goes on and on spewing disgusting filth. This is who MSNBC and Morning Joe want to represent them. If he could go back to the days of slavery, I firmly believe he would.

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan — CIA chief David Petraeus will be among an army of high-level U.S. officials with Secretary of State Hillary Clinton when she arrives in Islamabad on Thursday to ramp up pressure on Pakistan to do more to stop militant infiltration across the border into Afghanistan, several U.S. officials in Washington and the region told The Associated Press.

In a muscular show of diplomatic force, the U.S. dispatched most of its senior national security leaders to Pakistan with what several officials described as a combined message of support and pressure.

The lack of WARMTH narrative on PBO has been a false charge on him since 2007. Everyone and the grandma knows the Prez has warmth and compassion. The media is using FLOTUS to put her husband in a negative light. Those bastards are relentless. PBO will prevail in the end though.
