Hey guys! Just getting back home after a very long, but fun day rallying and marching. I was with my mother and aunt, and my mother got very emotional when we finally reached the King memorial. I know there is some controversy with how it was made, especially who made it, but it is quite a memorial. It’s beautiful. I love that it faces the water and the Lincoln Memorial. I love the wall with King quotes and the little waterfall area. There’s an area outside of the Memorial where you can catch the profile of the King Monument, with the Washington Memorial in the background. I just love DC, and this Memorial makes it all the more special.
To Donna: Saw your pics, I wish we could’ve met up! It was a very spur of the moment decision for me to go, and I’m glad I went.
I thought the turnout was pretty good considering it was canceled at first. The speakers before the march were very fired up! The crowd was as well. Lots of love for the president and lots of support for AJA. Over and over, the call was to pass the bill. I saw a little bit of OWS DC, and while people were positive about them, I was struck by how many people did kind of wonder about them. This is from what I gathered just talking to random people.
All in all I had a wonderful time. Donna’s pictures are pretty much similar to what I got, maybe I’ll share the one with King and the Washington Memorial when I get a chance to get them off my camera.
I talked to some folks and they said that they’re expecting a million people in DC tomorrow. I don’t know if that was accurate, but I think tomorrow’s dedication will be very special.
Oh Vero, thank you SO much for your report, that sounded like an amazing, incredible and completely beautiful day. How lovely for you to be there with your mother and aunt, I’m sure you’ll remember the day forever. Thank you again.
I definitely will. I have a lot of wonderful memories from this presidency. I was at the concert before the inauguration, I was at the inauguration, and now the King Memorial rally and march with Rev Al. I was never this interested in DC when the other guy was there!
I’m so glad you made it up with your family. It was an incredible day. We do have so many wonderful memories around this President’s time in the WH. Tomorrow will be incredible and the weather should be about like it was today which was a fabulously beautiful fall day.
It is so exciting that 2 of our family were able to attend this wonderful day. Thank you for the pictures and the report. You are the best! What memories!
On this day, remembering the promise that this video offered to all Americans, it is unassailable that our President Obama has brought us all much further than we could have realistically HOPED for, in such a short period:
I remember crying the first time I saw this video – those emotions are even more profound today.
Tomorrow, our President dedicates a monument to Rev Martin Luther King Jr. That, in itself, is beyond anything I could have ever imagined the day in 1968 when I was driving home from class and had to park on the side of the road because I could not stop weeping at the news that dear MLK Jr had just been murdered.
For some reason I can’t get it to work. Tried to watch on YouTube, goes blank when I click on play. Having trouble with many pictures and other videos as well. Downloaded Google Chrome, same problem. Is anyone else having this problem?
What an inspirational moment for the reality of Yes We Can … DO More Together and the President gave him a personal, profound moment that proves just how powerful each of us caring for the other, IS.
Yes, I would agree Bobfr. I bet the call from POTUS really gave Dewey extra motivation to shine tonight and he did not disappoint the President or the crowd or the people who had to PPV to see his bout!
This is without a doubt one of the great speeches in the history of our Republic. Rev King would be exceptionally proud of Rev Al.

In case anyone missed it, comedian Jimmy Fallon did a skit this week on GOP political ads. He does Rich “Who Am I This Time” Romney, Ponzi Perry, Michele (with one L) Bachmann and Herb “9-9-9” Cain. All of the political ads are very cleaver, but I thought I was going to hurt myself laughing at the “Herb” Cain ad. It is just hysterical.
ROFL!!!! “can you believe I got this far?” HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! Thanks LH – those are all very funny! Jimmy Fallon is tooo funny! Thanks for sharing these laughs!!!!!!
Whewwwwwwwwwww…..worried for a moment that Fallon was going to come out in BlackFace….the would not have been a good thang……but he may upset the church folks….um um um 😀
Thank you Chipsticks for posting the video. Rev Al FIRED ME UP!!!! He is such a dynamic rallying speaker!!!! God bless Rev Al Sharpton!!!
Thanks Donna and Vero for your photo’s and comments.
Yes, it is true, that this President has awakened in us an interest in Washington DC and in politics. And as Rev Al says…it’s time for the next generation to get on board and let their voices be heard!!!
I am still cracking up from this LA Times opinion piece poking fun at the GOP jobs plan that Fred posted several threads down. it is priceless. There is no seriousness of purpose. I think RIDICULE is one of the best weapons for calling them out. They have become a laughingstock.
Bobfr, I know you love to tweet and I would like to suggest you tweet this interview to everyone on your list.. Williard mitt tried to change the conversation to he loves the middle class now but the lie won’t work..
I currently never get home by 6pm to see Rev Al’s show live so I always have to catch it on the web. But I do see that interview had up to 359,000 views which is wonderful…
Bobfr, thank you so much for sharing that link of Rev. Al Sharpton interviewing Jim Gregory. You are truly amazing! Your fearless commitment to truth and human compassion is truly inspiring.
What fantastic news about Mr Bozella winning his fight. I clicked on Chips’ thread and
saw the 11 min documentary of his life in prison and the ESPY award. I was choked up.
Never heard of the guy until PBO called him….yet I was rooting for him like he was someone
I had known for years:):). PBO brings out the best in people. I am pretty sure the call
from our PREZ inspired him. Thanks for the news Chips, meta and Hopefruit.
I hate I’ll miss the speech live tomorrow, of all days I’m scheduled to run the video camera at church tomorrow.
But I know the first thing I’ll do when I come in from church tomorrow, is look at the wonder videos and pics from Chip, and read the always great comments from TODers.
Well, I’ll be signing off for now, so I will say enjoy the speech tomorrow folks! 😦 😦
Oh I didn’t get to see the speech this morning; thanks for posting it Chips :)! My favorite quote is “this isn’t about Obama, this is about my mama!” Rev Al is soooo captivating. I’m super excited for tomorrow and sooooooo glad I’ll be home all day!!!! 😀
WOW he WON!!! I’m elated for Mr Bozella!! He’s good….he’s 52 and beat a 30 years old!! Imagine how great he would of been if his incarceration didn’t happen!
Thank you, thank you, thank you. Missed this earlier and I cannot wait to see it.
Rev Al tore it up with #Truth #Truth and more #Truth. It was a thing of beauty to behold.
Thank God for Reverand Al! This is what the country needs to hear.
