For all I know, that headline could read: “Rick Perry Rocks!” But hopefully it doesn’t 😕

AP: Barack Obama once contemplated what it would be like to take his two daughters to the National Mall to see a monument to Martin Luther King Jr.
“I know that one of my daughters will ask, perhaps my youngest, will ask, “Daddy, why is this monument here? What did this man do?” Obama, then a senator representing Illinois, said during a 2006 groundbreaking ceremony for the memorial to the civil rights pioneer.
Five years have passed since Obama reflected on those questions. The young senator is now president, and the King memorial is complete, having opened to the public in August. And Obama will get his chance to take daughters Malia and Sasha to the monument Sunday for the dedication ceremony, during which the country’s first black president will be a featured speaker.
…. Obama will speak in front of a 30-foot sculpture of King, arms crossed, looking out into the horizon. The civil rights leader appears to emerge from a stone extracted from a mountain. The design was inspired by a line from the famous 1963 “Dream” speech delivered during the March on Washington in 1963: “Out of the mountain of despair, a stone of hope.”
….When Obama imagined years ago taking his daughters to see the King monument, he couldn’t have known he would do so as president. But he said when the monument was complete, he would tell his daughters “that this man gave his life serving others. I will tell them that this man tried to love somebody. I will tell them that because he did these things, they live today with the freedom God intended, their citizenship unquestioned, their dreams unbounded.”

Morning Chip. Cool. 🙂
(Ignore the other post in the last thread)
Loved the cartoon–it’s brilliant. Sunday will be an emotional day. I’ll be praying hard for PBO.
Chips, the Buffet diary registers an “error” when you click on it. It works okay in e-mail, but doesn’t get you here. Am I doing something wrong?
Hiya Jackie, sorry about that, but I removed the post for now, need to check it out. The quote from Warren Buffett about Congress was 100% accurate (from here) but a first-time commenter here disputed the way it was being used in that email, suggesting that Buffett’s words were misrepresented. Will look in to it later. Sorry again Jackie.
Good morning from our President’s hometown Chicago where I’m visiting family. In fact, I’m staying in his Hyde Park area. I love the photo of the two leaders in the Korean paper. It says it all about the respect world leaders have for him.
The photo of Pres Obama and MLK is iconic. Thanks for all you do, Chips.
Hey Chips the “Fixing Congress” thread reads Private so we can’t comment on it. So I’ll just repost what I wrote to you from the other thread. Good Morning! 😀
Hiya Chips. I’ve been up for more than an hour! Yay!!! I’ve been watching Morning Joe and my goodness Chips If you’d watched it this morning you’d have peed your pants laughing. You know how GOPolitico laughingly declared in their article by Ben Smith and Maggie Hayberman I believe or some other GOP tool writer that President Obama would be lucky to even come close to raising about $40 million in the 3rd Quarter and the goal of $55M was laughingly ambitious. They even repeated that crap on Morning Joe months ago. So today I expected Jon Harris of GOPoilitco to tell Joe Scarborough that their magazine was wrong. That PBO raised an impressive $70M. He told Joe “oh well, $70M is impressive of course, but – ahhhh that infernal “but” – GWB was raising more than PBO at this time, PBO doesn’t have any Wall Street people clamoring to donate to him – how is that a bad thing? – PBO is having to work double time to have people donate, blah blah blah” Joe Scarborough then went on a tear saying that he’s been talking to bundlers who are raising $5M or more for PBO and when he asks them to defend PBO, they have no defense, they hang their head in shame and say PBO is a terrible and horrible President, but their hands are tied; so they must bundle more money for him. Are you freaking kidding me? Hahahahahahaha Joe’s desperation was FUNNY and I mean funny with a capital “F” You could practically smell his fear that PBO despite having to cancel mulitple fundraisers due to the debt ceiling was still a JUGGERNAUT who raised $70M! Being a bundler is voluntary; no one forces you to do that. You do it because you want to make sure PBO is re-elected, you do it because you believe he is the best and American deserves the best. You do it because you want to protect all the transformative legislation he’s made from greedy and destructive GOPTeabaggers. Why else would Anna Wintour, Melanie Griffith, Antonio Banderas, Jennifer Garner, Ben Affleck, Eva Longoria, and a whole host of other people watse their time? The other desperate ploy of Scarborough’s was to mock PBO’s Hope and Change mantra
a la sarah palin. He kept asking how that Hope and Change thing was working out for small donors, big donors, and volunteers for the Obama 2012 campaign. Well Joe it’s working out just fine and dandy for us! His desperation was hilarious! He looked soooo afraid of the fact that PBO was raising money hand over fist and a lot of small donors were stepping up and donating multiple times. Sssshhhhh.. don’t tell him about Donna’s fundraiser aided by the TOD family and her lucky prize of receiving a call from PBO. It’ll probably drive him to almost shut down all the McDonalds in New York trying to fill the empty hole that is his desperation. BWAHAHAHA 😆 😆 😆 It’s a good day when republicans flip out over OUR guy’s success and their failure.
Morning UT! Sorry about the disappearing post, see my reply to Jackie for an explanation!
Ah, it’s been a tough few days for GOPolitico, Scarborough and Co. I think panic is setting in – they see how much support the AJA has in the polls, they know their do-nothing opposition will cost the GOP dearly, and they see the farce that the GOP 2012 race has descended in to. And then the President raises bucketloads of money. I can almost hear them crying from here. So what else can do but lie – lies are all they’ve got. Poor pets.
yeah, i watched a short part of joe this morning and your description is really up to the point that I had to mute the garbage.
they started with a scarstic and of course rich people’s condescending attack on OWS who we may not yet know the full picture but some are clearly pushing social justice which I believe in.
It was not until Rev Al came on and tried to set them straight that I felt I could put back the volume.
I know we have a lot of work to do to get President Obama elected because there are so many people blinded by their hate
thank you so much for watching Morning Murderer so the rest of us don’t have to.
Utaustin it just goes to show how desperate these people are. I mean they are literally eating themselves up with their Obama-hate. But I think it’s so obvious what they are doing that It’s getting to the point where the public is gradually realizing that the media is dishonest and in the pockets of the GOP – and therefore whatever they say must be taken with the appropriate amount of salt.
This inspires me to give even more. I want to make sure Pres. Obama’s 4th quarter is even better.
On another board, a poster was really pushing how this quarter was not as good as his last and that Obama has less supporters ging money, blah blah blah. The right wingers and “liberal” media is really desperate and foolish in pushing this idea that 70 million dollars is nothing. I think it’s why they hate Obama out there talking to the people and always accuse him of campaigning to minimize his actions. But you know what, fuck them. We are Pressing On.
Good morning,
Go politico headlines from Glen Thrush-
Obama 70 million dollars for quarter 3 looks better in paper than it really is.
That makes absolutely no sense at all.
Politico is having a major mental breakdown because they predicted months ago that President Obama would come no where near the $50 miilion target that he set for his campaign and the DNC. But alas, not only has the President exceeded his target for this quarter in terms of the amount raised, he has also beat his previous number of small donors from the 2nd quarter! In addition, he has pretty much exceeded the ENTIRE GOP candidate field in terms of number of small donors AND amount of money raised.
That’s why the GOP media is having a collective psychotic episode and are on a mission to delude themselves and make stupid people think that their eyes, ears and brain are lying.
hee hee hee
BAM!! Smith had to go back and talk about Bush fundraising because the current GOP candidates are getting smoked times ten by this President. That panic is setting in on Congressional Republicans as well. This piece by piece vote on the AJA is going to crush them.
I see the most recent GOP talking point memo is in high gear—–it’s that no one likes Obama. GOPolitico’s account of last night’s state dinner included the false statement that it was nice that the S. Korean president liked Obama because no other world leaders do. Husband had on Morning Joe before I got up (not allowed when I am present), and he said Joe, obviously nasty and bitter because no one likes the Repub candidates, said he had never talked to anyone in the beltway who likes Obama, and was poo pooing his fundraising numbers, saying the Repubs took in as much money. I have noticed Fineman pushing this theme at every appearance also, that no one likes Obama. Do they expect us to ignore facts and believe that we all have lying eyes, to not notice the jubilant crowds at every, single Obama appearance? It’s an attempt at brainwashing, thinking if they say something often enough, no matter how dishonest, it will become fact. Sorry, not going to work. Not this time.
yeah they are pushing this meme alright because they read all the polls where people say that even those who do not agree with his policies really, really, really like President Obama
These 50-70 year old men who call themselves media pundits are insanely and personally jealous of this President. It appears that they too have come down with a severe case of ODS.
These guys live in a bubble. Americans in general still like President Obama but it’s possible that INSIDE the Beltway, many people don’t like him. He has always been a real outsider, put there not by the establishment but BY THE PEOPLE. The Washington “coterie” resents him to various degrees because he wants to change how Washington works. He doesn’t play the games of the cocktail parties and the trading of favors with either the press or politicians (I’m including some democrats here).
President Obama has been saying for almost three years now to people in the Beltway: shake up your corrupt ways and DO YOUR JOBS. So for them, it’s easier to mock, attack the President than to admit that this insulate world they’re so comfortable with is indeed very corrupted and totally out of touch with the world of ordinary americans, those americans they are supposed to serve, either in legislating or in providing information of great quality.
Washington has been compared to Versailles. Good comparison I think.
I read here a couple nights ago that Chris Matthews started this line of.. “Obama has a people problem” . So there we have it, it began with the so-called ‘liberal’ media.
And they can almost get away with this bs, because of course they rarely ever televise more than snippets of his speeches, they (I assume as I don’t watch tv) don’t show him interacting with people shaking hands, chatting at places.. or the crowds that show up. They’re going to have a hell of a lot of explaining to do about where allll those enthusiastic, Obama loving crowds/lines are coming from – when the election gets going.
I have to comment though on the line above that then Senator Obama spoke to his daughters in regards to the groundbreaking of the MLK Memorial:
….When Obama imagined years ago taking his daughters to see the King monument, he couldn’t have known he would do so as president. But he said when the monument was complete, he would tell his daughters “that this man gave his life serving others. I will tell them that this man tried to love somebody. I will tell them that because he did these things, they live today with the freedom God intended, their citizenship unquestioned, their dreams unbounded.”
I doubt he ever expected that his own citizenship would be questioned.
Exactly!
Also to add to the notion that the “liberal” media pushes about no one liking President Obama. So what. These people sound so high school. As far as I’m concerned, if the inside beltway people don’t like him, it means he’s doing something right.
Virginia has landed a collaborative project to establish a facility for the testing and certification of large offshore and land-based electricity-producing wind turbines. The project, called Poseidon Atlantic, will be the first such facility in the United States and will help fill a growing need globally for facilities that test and certify wind turbines. The initial phase of the project is to be developed on Virginia’s Eastern Shore in Northampton County.

NC GOP to attack the Presidents bus tour saying he is Wasting money campaigning on jobs.
Wait,…WHAT?
they are afraid that he is gaining support and people are siding with PBO
That is true. If he could talk about jobs the way Liz Warren talks about it, he would gain support even quicker. Plain speaking, please. Emotional speaking, please. It amazes me that we don’t have a Frank Luntz of our own. Yesterday when the R-thugs were pushing abortion bill instead of jobs bill, democrats kept screaming about the abortion bill. Few, very few said how it should be said, “culture wars!” They should talk about the ruthugs waging culture wars and voter intimidation. Those are the words. I wish Obama would stop talking about bridges and stuff and talk about building America. Go bigger, go emotional, go partriatic. His grand speech making is great, but his talent for closing in on the emotional points of the issue sucks. The race speech in Phili was the only time I remember him hitting emotional points very well, but then that was kind of the grand speech making he is good at anyway. And about fundraising, i think the President will do well against any gop guy. They are not to be worried about. The worry is Rove and Koch groups. They will rain money down on us.
MARTIN LUTHER KING MEMORIAL , JR. – “VIRTUAL TOUR”
==========================================
This “Virtual Tour” of the Martin Luther King Memorial is so moving, it just brings on the water works as soon as the music starts. I am going to need a box of tissues for the dedication on Sunday, October 16, 2011. This line from the AP article about President Obama is especially poignant:
—————-
….When Obama imagined years ago taking his daughters to see the King monument, he couldn’t have known he would do so as president.

We reached 1 million donors last night.
Suck on that politico!
We did? Could you provide a link or something please? Thanks.
Once they start the clock on Barack Obama.com.
We reached it at around 1am. Then they stopped the clock, here tale a look…

House Passes Let Women Die Act
http://www.care2.com/causes/house-passes-let-women-die-act.html
They were doing this foul thing last night while PBO was at the State Dinner. I read that Obama will veto this. Here’s a link to an article about it.
http://www.theatlantic.com/national/archive/2011/10/obama-says-hell-veto-the-gops-abortion-bill/246614/
Hmm. According to this article the Reps have several anti woman bills that they want to attach to other bills that must pass. Nice….
So voter suppression and all this legislation bile that will be spewing from the repubs because they can’t seem to pass a JOBS bill – those things I think are the questions I’d ask PBO.
Great photo
That photo simply brings tears to my eyes. Morning TODville
Our President and S. Korean President are going to make a joint appearance in Detroit today. I’m looking forward to seeing it.

GOP CULTURE WARS (ABORTION) vs JOB CREATION
============================================
The Rachel Maddow Show
Democrats try to pass jobs action while GOP tilts at windmills. Senator Sherrod Brown talks with Rachel Maddow about Democrats efforts to stimulate the economy while Republicans fight strawmen to score cheap culture war points.
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/26315908/#44898285
The Republicans are able to get away with their bullshyte because this irresponsible media will rather spend hours spreading nasty and false propaganda about our President (e.g., no one likes him, etc), while letting the GOP off the hook time and time again. It’s time for the media to be held accountable. I’ve said that repeatedly. Unless the media is not held accountable, the GOP will continue their irresponsible and dangerous behavior because people are deliberately misinformed by the media. It’s time for the spotlight to be focused on the media.
And Peggy noonan saying Romney is a moderate.
No he is not.
He wants to privatize SS, oh, I am sorry, personalized account! Lol!
hopefruit2 said: It’s time for the spotlight to be focused on the media.
Exactly, the media firewall has been a problem since January 20, 2009 and before. They look the other way, they carry water for the GOP, they pretend that both sides do it (fill in the blank), they don’t challenge outlandish claims when they are being made. They act like there is only one branch of the government (EXECUTIVE) that should be held accountable. It’s as if we don’t have a congress. But the (LEGISLATIVE) branch exists and it is the problem.
President Obama and the Democrats are trying to govern and improve the lives of the American people. The Republican Party is obstructing, delaying, sabotaging, filibustering and taking hostages every other week. They “work” two weeks on absolute nonsense and then they take a week off to supposedly be available to their constituents. Meanwhile, they have produced no jobs bills in over nine months. And the media still is not focusing on this travesty. They just ask Why hasn’t President Obama resolved everything. It’s infuriating..
That’s why The President has been taking it to the local media where he has been getting very favorable coverage and quality questions. The MSM have no idea what’s going on.
Good morning, TODville.
I choked up when I read this quote from PBO:
“I will tell them that this man tried to love somebody. I will tell them that because he did these things, they live today with the freedom God intended, their citizenship unquestioned, their dreams unbounded.”
Then Senator Obama would then go on to live to see his citizenship questioned for years. Just unbelievable what he’s been through.
I can’t wait to see the First Family at the MLK memorial on Sunday. That will be another one for the history books.
Chipsticks, please give me the time, date, and if the President speech will be on tv, or on CNN live, or White House.gov. I am looking forward to seeing them too Jessica.
I can’t wait to see it as well.
Well, I’ll be crying all day Sunday. I cried just reading this article and seeing the image. Thanks so much, Chips!
My favorite part of his ’06 speech:
“But he said when the monument was complete, he would tell his daughters ‘that this man gave his life serving others. I will tell them that this man tried to love somebody. I will tell them that because he did these things, they live today with the freedom God intended, their citizenship unquestioned, their dreams unbounded.'”
I think that the photos chosen for the South Korean papers say it all. The South Koreans know what a great POTUS we have and are happy about the relationship they share with our country. Like the President, I admire the educators in S.Korea and their culture.
