shifting with the political winds…..

TPM: And so it begins. On a press call Wednesday, David Axelrod took direct aim at Mitt Romney, signalling that Obama’s campaign is ready to engage with the man most see as the likely Republican nominee…

To take on Romney, Axelrod used an old saw: The man is a flip-flopper, he told reporters. …. “I know Gov. Perry has made some halting efforts to do that in debates, but he hasn’t exactly gotten the gun out of the holster,” Axelrod said. “So I wouldn’t exactly say that Gov. Romney has been scrutinized to the degree that he will or he should.”

…. Axelrod said that Romney’s been pretty good so far at shifting with the political winds. “I will give him this: he is as vehement and as strong in his convictions when he takes one position as he is when he takes the diametrically opposite position. And that is something that in the short-term you can get rewarded for.”

But in the long run, Romney’s past will come back to haunt him. “George Burns once said, ‘all you need to succeed in show business is sincerity and if you can fake that you’ve got it made.’ And there’s something to that in politics as well,” Axelrod said. “But I don’t think you can do that in a presidential campaign. Ultimately people want to know who you are, what you believe and what you’re willing to stand for.”

      He’s trying to be like President Obama because PBO is the epitome of an excellent President. He’s what everyone wants their President to be – smart, personable, human, attractive, compassionate, forward thinking, hard working. The difference though (one of many), is that Willard has no integrity – and that will come through clearly when the two are standing side by side. You can’t pretend to have character. You can’t pretend to love people more than power and money. You can’t pretend to have honor. And that’s where Willard is going to find that his play acting as President will only take him so far. He cannot ignore what he’s said in the past and the many flip-flops – those are recorded for future consumption. And his own words will bring him down.

        Ah, Willard. He reminds me of the time I had a Christmas party for my three older granddaughters and Santa came for a visit. My oldest grandgirl whispered to me that she didn’t think he was the “real” Santa because she had spotted a dark mustache under his white mustache. I had to think fast to get her through that one! In Willard’s case, all I can say is that I’ve met Santa Claus and try as he might, Willard is no Santa Claus and he certainly doesn’t care about the 99% or the children among the 99%. Even one of his eyes twitches a little when he says something he doesn’t mean – no kidding. When I saw that, I almost – almost – felt sorry for him.

    Brilliantly stated Mr. Axelrod. Willard may be able to fake it throughout the primary, but come the general; it’s not going to be easy to run away from his flip-flopping ways. I can’t wait. Pass me the kettlecorn popcorn.

    Great little quote about faking sincerity from David Axelrod! That line fits all of the R candidates, for sure.

    Romney’s plan to gut the health care system

    ==================================

    Mitt Romney may be the godfather of President Obama’s Affordable Care Act, but that doesn’t mean he’ll leave it intact if elected. Here’s the Republican’s plan, as he described it last night.

    “On day one, granting a waiver for — to all 50 states doesn’t stop in its tracks entirely ‘Obamacare.’ That’s why I also say we have to repeal ‘Obamacare,’ and I will do that on day two with a reconciliation bill, because, as you know, it was passed by reconciliation, 51 votes. We can get rid of it with 51 votes. We have to get rid of ‘Obamacare.’”

    I realize Romney seems like a towering genius when sharing a stage with the rest of the Republican field, but it’s worth appreciating the fact that he doesn’t know what he’s talking about.

    Willard Romney is such an hypocrite…and clueless.

    Last week he said that the OWS was dangerous and class warfare.
    Now he changed his tune, he said that he understand the 99%, I’m pretty sure he puts himself in that category as well.

    Romney went on to say at the Republican economic debate in Hanover, New Hampshire on Tuesday that the protests for economic justice actually demonstrate the need for tax cuts.

    Yes Willard,
    More tax cuts

    They’re so pathetic, all of them,.

    @davidaxelrod Focus on 1 message to Americans – Republicans will destroy America before they will help you; that’s how much they hate #OBAMA

    Sent this to a few others as well 🙂

    PROFILES IN COWARDICE

    Sens. Snowe, Collins Continue Rightward Lurch With Vote Against Jobs Bill

    =========================================================

    Continuing to undermine their reputation as thoughtful moderates, Maine Republican Senators Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins voted to kill the American Jobs Act — and offered a series of misleading and economically illiterate justifications for doing so.
