Real Clear Politics’ latest data crunching pegs the President’s average approval among Democrats at a robust 76.8%. (For comparison, in October of 1995, soon-to-be-re-elected Bill Clinton’s Democratic support was a near-identical 77%, according to Gallup.) And what of the real left? The ones whose disappointment has been given voice by people like Drew Westen to Paul Krugman? It turns out self-identified liberals’ support for Obama isn’t far behind at 72% in Gallup’s latest tracking data. (The same group gave Clinton 65% approval in 1995)….

What a silly move by Newsom. San Francisco is the home of Nancy Pelosi, who helped President Obama move hundreds of bills through the 111th Congress – many of which were critical to his agenda. And Nancy was re-elected overwhelmingly in her district. For Newsom to try and jump on the anti-Obama bandwagon, in San Francisco of all places, is a very stupid move. And it goes to his level of integrity and credibility. What about President Obama is not distinctly democratic? What?
It’s like that scene from “Pretty Woman” when Julia Roberts character goes back to the store that snubs her and says “Stupid move. Very stupid move”.
Gavin has been known to do “stupid” from time to time. He’s still half-baked and will be crushed by President Obama & Nancy Pelosi if he goes too far!

I just know how I feel. I subscribe to several liberal groups email lists and enjoy and appreciate the information. However, if I see a blatantly unfair article about the President being headlined on their site or I see a pattern of taking shots at the President, I am unsubcribing. It has happened more than a few times recently. Triangulate with the President and I won’t be reading your stuff anymore.

Isn’t it okay to have a difference of opinion? Even if you are a politician. And when you have a different view, is it too much to ask that your comments be reported truthfully and accurately? What’s sad is that THIS story offers none of those things. When tabloid driven columnists twist things around and don’t bother to do any fact checking, then recycle someone else’s erroneous reporting as their own, it just turns into a gossip column free for all. And like the Energizer Bunny, it just keeps going and going. For the life of me, I don’t understand. I mean, if you’re gonna do it, copy someone who actually knows what the hell they are talking about and not these clowns, Matier & Ross!
Suffice to say, people love a reason to gossip and whether or not you’re a fan of Gavin Newsom, he didn’t deserve to be lied about and misrepresented the way he was in this article. I’m just floored by some of the comments here, people speaking as if they were at the event and heard every word he said, in person. Obviously this sort of cut and paste “journalism” fills blogs and draws comments so I probably shouldn’t be so surprised. It’s what’s tearing apart our party though- this petty nonsense. It simply takes away from all the issues we really need to be focused on.

To be honest, I don’t visit Huffington Post any more, I’ve actually un-bookmarked it, I think the place is poisonous and jam-packed with “petty nonsense” every day – to me, it seems like the agenda there is way more focused on trying to demoralize the President’s base and “tearing apart our party”, than on any constructive debate or on the horror show that is the alternative, Romney/Cain/Perry/Latest Freak.
But even if you write for HP (!), because you were there, I’m happy to accept your word for it when you say Sorensen’s report was, well, wrong.
