I’m about to rally the troops for a big push on the AJA next week. I read that there is a planned vote this week in the Senate. Does anyone know what day that vote is scheduled?
Rally on, Donna. These coordinated pushes tend to amplify the effect, rather than us just calling, faxing, tweeting individually. I’ll be looking out for the call to action.
I don’t think a day has been specified yet. I’ve been looking all over CSPAN and other sites but no day has been mentioned. Hopefully we will know by Tuesday.

Wow. The last “chat away” thread was very insightful. What I absolutely adore about this haven you’ve created Chips is that we have intelligent discussions. Even when we disagree, we have factual evidence to back our disagreement or others join in the discussion with more factual evidence. When we find out that a firebagger has infiltrated our haven in a sly manner; we do not hesitate to call him/her out. When I happen to peek into other supposedly progressive blogs *cough cough* HuffPo and Old Orange they’re all filled with President Obama bashing and non-constructive handwringing. We suggest concrete action plans about registering people to vote, emailing, tweeting, calling, spreading the accomplishments of PBO and his administration. I ALWAYS learn something new everyday from participating in the discussions. Thanks Chips and my fellow TOD Obamacrats. 😉
It’s really only on stories about President Obama on HuffnPuff that a lot of the Obama hate emerges. I suspect about half of those Obamabashers there are paid trolls, the rest Naderite/libertarian emoprogs who sniff the glue from Glenn Greenwald, Matt Taibbi, Ron Paul, and of course the Queen herself Arianna HuffnFluff.
I’ve ventured to other threads on that site, and the posters rightfully hammer the Repubs… case in point, the Scott Brown/Elisabeth Warren flareup where she said she kept her clothes on in response to a question from a moderator… then Scott Brown made his immature juvenile “Thank God!” response and is now hiding behind the skirts of two female GOP senators, Ayotte and Collins, the HuffnFluff posters hammered Scott Brown’s misogynistic and immature behavior and the trolls that defended him. The blog is still shit, with the badges and all, but I suspect that the tide will turn. Ultimately, radical Obama hatred never drives you anywhere for long, look at Glenn Beck who was canned by Fox Propaganda because his radical TV shtick got old.

Adbusters founder and editor Kalle Lasn told AFP the magazine hopes to expand the protest globally — and for the first time aim it at a more specific message than the protester’s unfocused anger at the ultra-rich, corporations and governments.
Lasn is calling for a massive protest by 50 million people October 29 to demand a one percent tax on financial transactions, before the G20 meets in France early next month.
“A one percent Robin Hood tax on all financial transactions and currency trades would slow down fast money, and it will have a major impetus on the global economy,” said Lasn.
I’m not sure they’ll be gone soon. Check any news site in the country. There are demonstrations everywhere, almost every city surprised by the big turnouts. And in these smaller cities, there is no mention of Ron Paul or not voting or 3rd party candidates and some of the other junk emanating from D.C. and N.Y. This has rung a bell with people who are rightfully angry about corporate greed and billionaire money in politics and elections etc. I don’t know where it’s going and much of the info is troubling, but people across the country are out expressing their disgust and anger.

I’m glad to hear that there are pro-Obama posters on HuffPo, but I’ll never go back. She burned that bridge with me ages ago. I find that they tend to give you enough supportive stuff to keep you hanging on, just like MSNBC. On my local ABC news, they showed the OccupyDC movement which seemed to be a group of folks assembled to air a mishmash of random issues. They interviewed a lady whose son had been deployed for his 4th tour to Afghanistan and she wanted to know when she was going to have her beer summit with PBO to discuss her grievance. They should another guy with a huge smile but supposedly “angry” about Washington, the WH, Capitol, etc..,
I mean, seriously? And one thing I couldn’t help but notice are the lack of racial/ethnic diversity in these crowds.

I think the reason for the lack of diversity is people haven’t known what to think of these demonstrations, haven’t trusted them, and for good reason. No one has known what the real purpose is, what the goals supposedly are. Spokesmen have either been unable or unwilling to state any demands. And many were initially dismissive because of the dominant dumb zombie thing in the beginning and the hodgepodge appearance and drum circles etc., and signs with all manner of grievances, running the whole gamut. I do feel sad about the intrusion by unfriendly forces and increased knowledge about the origin when I see headline news in smaller cities across the country, describing the protests as a reaction to economic unfairness. I fear many who have their hearts and minds in the right places are being used and abused by those with selfish purposes. I wish all this outrage could be corralled and directed toward a worthy goal.

The lecture was just brilliant. I hope everyone will be able to find the time to watch. You will not be disappointed.

I saw the lecture by MHP on C-SPAN Ladyhawke and I too recommend it. It was brilliant, insightful, full of wit and humor. Full of truth, full of history and factual insight into the teaparty mindset. Truth about race and racism. The despicable double standard President Obama is held to by so called white “liberals” because he’s an African-American, the debt ceiling debate, the healthcare battle, the Constitution, the South and its racial and political history, confederacy. Gosh, I could go on and on and on. Seriously, if anyone has time and wants to be enlightened by pure unvarnished truth with a shot of humor, then he/she should watch her lecture.
MHP has proven herself to be one of the up and coming thinkers and analyst of the day yet the GREAT Tavis Smiley has never seen fit to have her on one of his panels. He does, however, get the same old has-been with agendas that go back to the Freedom Rides.

I heard the beginning of that lecture, but we had to go somewhere and didn’t get to hear it all. I’ll try to watch it via your link, and thank you. I heard her opinion of the movie The Help on LOD’s show. She was steamed about it! I read it two summers ago, and was anxious about turning it into a movie. I didn’t see how in the present mood, it could be done accurately and well. I haven’t seen it, and don’t plan to. I’m one of those, though, who almost always says….The book was much better than the movie. There was nuance and subtext in the book which I would imagine did not get through in the movie. I could see too much opportunity for stereotyping in the movie.
We just moved out of Wells Fargo into a local credit union, they have much better deals, they don’t have off shore accounts, they keep the $$ in the community. All around a better deal.

I heard that Goldie Taylor woman say on CNN Newsroom with Don Lemon that the American Jobs Act is dead on arrival, it doesn’t have the votes. If that’s the case I want to see how people have the gall to put the blame on President Obama. I guess Goldie Taylor is her name.
How does she know this? Who in the House and the Senate will vote against it? Does she say who her sources are? Does she say why? Although I’ve seen her on twitter, I don’t know who she is but I AM SO SICK OF PEOPLE ON TEEVEE AND THEIR UNSOURCED PERSONAL SPIN taken as truth without substantiation.

Supposedly there are 4 or 5 Senate Democrats who say they will not or may not vote for AJA. Off hand I remember Casey and Hagan. But I’m sure there were at least 2 more. There was a petition going around on twitter addressed to these Senators which I signed. At the moment, I can’t remember the other 2.
O/T The Rev. Joseph E. Lowery is being saluted in Atlanta for his legacy as a civil rights icon.
Lowery turned 90 years old on Friday and is being honored on Sunday night. The event also is a fundraiser for his Institute for Justice and Human Rights.
The lieutenant of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. has a portrait in his home that bears the words, “I was kept alive to be a witness.”
Indeed, Lowery has outlived King and many other civil rights-era contemporaries. He has witnessed the fall of segregation and the nation’s first black president, and he has continued to fight for equality and social justice.
A very Happy 90th birthday to this great man and may he live another 90 because he still make a lot of sense and is a very hopeful, kind and yes a person with lot of humor and abilty tio keep others around him happ.

I was watching a short news clip of one guy (part of the OWS DC) who was arrested at the White House today for throwing his shoe over which apparently hit a uniformed Secret Service Agent. I know my eyes are not sharp any more but I thought I saw him wearing that yellow shirt with the snake log which was used by the teabaggers. can someone else verify this and bring it to the attention of other such as MSM (of course Don Lemon’s CNN has this as a main feature) and Twitter folks
Protester Arrested Outside White House For Throwing Shoe
Politicians fought Sunday to cast the ongoing Wall Street protests in a very different light, with two GOP presidential candidates calling them “class warfare” and prominent Democrats expressing support for the protesters’ message.
As lawmakers took to the political talk shows, a crowd of about 100 people protested outside the White House, part of a wave of protests spreading nationwide inspired by the Occupy Wall Street movement.
The Secret Service said one person was arrested and will be charged with assault on a police officer after throwing a shoe at a uniformed officer.
Lisa Simeone, one of the protest organizers, said the man was trying to throw his shoe over the fence of the White House but missed.
Most of those taking part carried an anti-war message — something that has happened in other cities as well. Several carried signs asking President Barack Obama to join them for a “beer summit.”
OWS’ers need to march to the D.C. U.S. Capitol and/or their state capital. That’s where bills are written and passed by Congress (House of Representatives and Senate). Then, they go to the President/Governor for signature or veto!
Unfortunately, some of them don’t know how a bill becomes a law…
Nor, do they know how local/state and federal governments work.
That is because the OWS is being covertly promoted by the institution that the protests are against. I hope you all can see how this is evolving. I think those who are infiltrating are framing it so that FOX news can rant on about the communist/socialist leanings of the “mob”. I hope someone legitimate can take hold of that movement quickly or it can peter out before it does any more damage.
This was bound to happen without strong leadership. Democrats can support the sentiment–resentment against the uber rich and exploitative corporations–without supporting the tactics. But a mob with no purpose is ultimately just a waste of energy. In the areas where it becomes a rally for jobs it might do some smidgeon of good, but it’s sad to fritter away the potential for making a difference with such confusion.
I wouldn’t trust this if I were you. I googled Hugo Chavez + Occupy Wall Street and every hit so far has brought up right wing websites. Plus there was a quote in there that really set of an alarm:

Cadre said she quit her job in order to be a part of OWS and added, “if sicko Christians want to pray, let them pray that we have a leader like Hugo Chavez! That is so over the top 30’s leftist pseudo talk that it’s comical. It sounds like somebody who saw a bad movie and is trying to pretend to be a revolutionary. Give me a break. No real humans (not placed in a time capsule for the last 70 years) talk like that. And if those words actually came out of the mouth of a 22-year old, she needs help.
There is a diary right now on Old Orange trying to match Chavez (favorably) against the President in a hypothetical “anticapitalist” stance. At least it got 2 HR’s .
That kind of diary is juvenile, freshman dorm room stuff. It accomplishes nothing, is completely divorced from reality and makes the writer look like an idiot.
It doesn’t sound right, but this is what I was arguing on the Booman Tribune a couple of days back, when I was looking for what the hell it was about. I mean, if there is no spokespersons who could viably articulate a clear and concise vision of what the mission statement for this movement is, then many conservative/PL/Anti-Obama forces could come in, muddle the message and destroy the momentum. Of course,the guy I was arguing with just kept saying, I didn’t get it. No shit?
I read the article and it sounded sort of sarcastic, especially the last paragraph when it stated that the next leader to contact the group would be the North Korean leader…..well at least I hope it wasn’t true.
Looking forward to seeing and hearing Rev. Al’s reporting from OWS this coming week. There’s real potential in the movement, and I would love to get his perspective on it. If anybody knows about grassroots, it’s Rev. Al.
I am certainly looking forward to hearing Rev Al’s take on this. I think the movement could have had a lot more potential if they had focused their message, not kept it so nebulous to hide their motives, and now it appears it’s being co-opted by just about every faction thinkable. I mean, folks wanting “beer summits” with the President to talk about the wars (which he is succeeding at his goals in Afghanistan, and winding down as promised in Iraq)?!?!?
Time will tell. Can’t wait to hear what Rev. Al will say. I’m sure he’s been part of several less than perfect demonstrations in his time. Like John Lewis, he’s knows the deal. :-).

Barack Obama supporters stage Harlem Tea Party in support of president’s re-election bid

Dozens of people rallied at a “Harlem Tea Party” Sunday in support of President Obama’s reelection bid – and called for a more civil tone in the presidential race.
“This is a Harlem tea party,” said Chet Whyte, director of Harlem 4 Obama. “This is about ‘civilitea.’ But don’t let the smooth taste fool you.”
“Our premise is that we have allowed the Tea Party to shape the debate,” Whyte said. “We’re going to take back the definition of tea party. They wanted to define us, we’re redefining them.”
Whyte said Harlem 4 Obama members would heed the example of those who peacefully demonstrated during the Civil Rights Movement.
“In their quiet dignity, they went up against dogs and firehouses in Selma,” Whyte said. “They came back with the moral authority.”
Oscar Carter, 65, of Harlem, told the crowd: “President Obama, we want you to know, Harlem has your back!”
Tekima Berlack, a retired social worker who was born and reared in Harlem, said, in some instances, racism has fueled the vitriolic criticism of the president.
“I think it’s racism,” said Berlack, who held up a sign that read “Expand Pell Grants for Low Income Students.”
I’m specifically here for [Obama’s] reelection and to bring the jobs bill to the public’s attention,” Moore-Bruno said. “We need to pass this bill for all Americans, not just Harlem.”
Now that is REAL activism. Outlines a specific mission, with an identifiable and achievable goal, and they are not hiding their motives by pretending to be some apolitical group with a laundry list of vague grievances and unrealistic “demands.”
I just listened to Danny Glover tell a crowd in L.A. that the AJA was insufficient, that it gave false hope.
I could not bear to finish listening. I was drawn to the clip because it was titled “Danny Wakes Up”; I fully expected Danny to be fighting for the AJA. I was wrong and terribly disappointed. He is as virulently against Obama as any on the right.
I wonder what was his brilliant idea about that, what would have been sufficient? Do they do it on purpose to completely ignore what the President has to deal with? A small majority in the Senate, with Blue Dogs and the teabaggers control the House,.
It’s so annoying, beside complaining, what the hell do they do that is constructive, instead of targeting the Republicans, the do nothing Congress……….it’s always about the President

Wow. The last “chat away” thread was very insightful. What I absolutely adore about this haven you’ve created Chips is that we have intelligent discussions. Even when we disagree, we have factual evidence to back our disagreement or others join in the discussion with more factual evidence. When we find out that a firebagger has infiltrated our haven in a sly manner; we do not hesitate to call him/her out. When I happen to peek into other supposedly progressive blogs *cough cough* HuffPo and Old Orange they’re all filled with President Obama bashing and non-constructive handwringing. We suggest concrete action plans about registering people to vote, emailing, tweeting, calling, spreading the accomplishments of PBO and his administration. I ALWAYS learn something new everyday from participating in the discussions. Thanks Chips and my fellow TOD Obamacrats. 😉
It’s really only on stories about President Obama on HuffnPuff that a lot of the Obama hate emerges. I suspect about half of those Obamabashers there are paid trolls, the rest Naderite/libertarian emoprogs who sniff the glue from Glenn Greenwald, Matt Taibbi, Ron Paul, and of course the Queen herself Arianna HuffnFluff.
I’ve ventured to other threads on that site, and the posters rightfully hammer the Repubs… case in point, the Scott Brown/Elisabeth Warren flareup where she said she kept her clothes on in response to a question from a moderator… then Scott Brown made his immature juvenile “Thank God!” response and is now hiding behind the skirts of two female GOP senators, Ayotte and Collins, the HuffnFluff posters hammered Scott Brown’s misogynistic and immature behavior and the trolls that defended him. The blog is still shit, with the badges and all, but I suspect that the tide will turn. Ultimately, radical Obama hatred never drives you anywhere for long, look at Glenn Beck who was canned by Fox Propaganda because his radical TV shtick got old.

I’m not sure they’ll be gone soon. Check any news site in the country. There are demonstrations everywhere, almost every city surprised by the big turnouts. And in these smaller cities, there is no mention of Ron Paul or not voting or 3rd party candidates and some of the other junk emanating from D.C. and N.Y. This has rung a bell with people who are rightfully angry about corporate greed and billionaire money in politics and elections etc. I don’t know where it’s going and much of the info is troubling, but people across the country are out expressing their disgust and anger.
I fully support OWS. I think different groups are appropriate for different purposes. Fighting plutocracy is a worthy goal, a necessary goal.
Do you support not voting in 2012, and third-party candidate? Because OWS endorses both of these elements.

I’m glad to hear that there are pro-Obama posters on HuffPo, but I’ll never go back. She burned that bridge with me ages ago. On my local ABC news, they showed the OccupyDC movement which seemed to be a group of folks assembled to air a mishmash of random issues. They interviewed a lady whose son had been deployed for his 4th tour to Afghanistan and she wanted to know when she was going to have her beer summit with PBO to discuss her grievance. They should another guy with a huge smile but supposedly “angry” about Washington, the WH, Capitol, etc..,
I mean, seriously? And one thing I couldn’t help but notice are the lack of racial/ethnic diversity in these crowds.
She demands a beer summit with PBO? Because she’s who? The Prime Minister of I don’t give a f*ck? As for the lack of racial/ethnic diversity in the OWS crowds; I’ve also noticed that too, hopefruit.
I think the reason for the lack of diversity is people haven’t known what to think of these demonstrations, haven’t trusted them, and for good reason. No one has known what the real purpose is, what the goals supposedly are. Spokesmen have either been unable or unwilling to state any demands. And many were initially dismissive because of the dominant dumb zombie thing in the beginning and the hodgepodge appearance and drum circles etc., and signs with all manner of grievances, running the whole gamut. I do feel sad about the intrusion by unfriendly forces and increased knowledge about the origin when I see headline news in smaller cities across the country, describing the protests as a reaction to economic unfairness. I fear many who have their hearts and minds in the right places are being used and abused by those with selfish purposes. I wish all this outrage could be corralled and directed toward a worthy goal.

I saw the lecture by MHP on C-SPAN Ladyhawke and I too recommend it. It was brilliant, insightful, full of wit and humor. Full of truth, full of history and factual insight into the teaparty mindset. Truth about race and racism. The despicable double standard President Obama is held to by so called white “liberals” because he’s an African-American, the debt ceiling debate, the healthcare battle, the Constitution, the South and its racial and political history, confederacy. Gosh, I could go on and on and on. Seriously, if anyone has time and wants to be enlightened by pure unvarnished truth with a shot of humor, then he/she should watch her lecture.
MHP has proven herself to be one of the up and coming thinkers and analyst of the day yet the GREAT Tavis Smiley has never seen fit to have her on one of his panels. He does, however, get the same old has-been with agendas that go back to the Freedom Rides.

I heard the beginning of that lecture, but we had to go somewhere and didn’t get to hear it all. I’ll try to watch it via your link, and thank you. I heard her opinion of the movie The Help on LOD’s show. She was steamed about it! I read it two summers ago, and was anxious about turning it into a movie. I didn’t see how in the present mood, it could be done accurately and well. I haven’t seen it, and don’t plan to. I’m one of those, though, who almost always says….The book was much better than the movie. There was nuance and subtext in the book which I would imagine did not get through in the movie. I could see too much opportunity for stereotyping in the movie.

Protester Arrested Outside White House For Throwing Shoe
Politicians fought Sunday to cast the ongoing Wall Street protests in a very different light, with two GOP presidential candidates calling them “class warfare” and prominent Democrats expressing support for the protesters’ message.
As lawmakers took to the political talk shows, a crowd of about 100 people protested outside the White House, part of a wave of protests spreading nationwide inspired by the Occupy Wall Street movement.
The Secret Service said one person was arrested and will be charged with assault on a police officer after throwing a shoe at a uniformed officer.
Lisa Simeone, one of the protest organizers, said the man was trying to throw his shoe over the fence of the White House but missed.
Most of those taking part carried an anti-war message — something that has happened in other cities as well. Several carried signs asking President Barack Obama to join them for a “beer summit.”
OWS’ers need to march to the D.C. U.S. Capitol and/or their state capital. That’s where bills are written and passed by Congress (House of Representatives and Senate). Then, they go to the President/Governor for signature or veto!
Unfortunately, some of them don’t know how a bill becomes a law…
Nor, do they know how local/state and federal governments work.
That’s a shame.

I think those who are infiltrating are framing it so that FOX news can rant on about the communist/socialist leanings of the “mob”. I hope someone legitimate can take hold of that movement quickly or it can peter out before it does any more damage.
This was bound to happen without strong leadership. Democrats can support the sentiment–resentment against the uber rich and exploitative corporations–without supporting the tactics. But a mob with no purpose is ultimately just a waste of energy. In the areas where it becomes a rally for jobs it might do some smidgeon of good, but it’s sad to fritter away the potential for making a difference with such confusion.

I am certainly looking forward to hearing Rev Al’s take on this. I think the movement could have had a lot more potential if they had focused their message, not kept it so nebulous to hide their motives, and now it appears it’s being co-opted by just about every faction thinkable. I mean, folks wanting “beer summits” with the President to talk about the wars (which he is succeeding at his goals in Afghanistan, and winding down as promised in Iraq)?!?!?

Hey Everyone…Another busy day….volunteering signed up a few people….we had a demonstration and passed out more flyers “PASS THE JOB ACT”…Whewwwwww tired….but my spirit is high!! I decided not to watch any Sunday shows this morning…just headed out with one thing in mind…helping PBO in getting this job bill passed…anything is distraction…like the OW, after what happened with John Lewis I am done..They keep saying they don’t have any political affiliation, yet they are quick to bash President Obama…there’s a double standard here…everything they complaining about, should be directed to the GOP, the No-Good Congress, You can’t say we not taking sides, while you dump everyone in one category…PBO has been wearing the badge for the middle class since his early days as a community organizer in south side Chicago, If these demonstrators want to be seen as a credible force they need to put their energy where it belongs…..and that’s Congress…Not PBO…

Dozens of people rallied at a “Harlem Tea Party” Sunday in support of President Obama’s reelection bid – and called for a more civil tone in the presidential race.
“This is a Harlem tea party,” said Chet Whyte, director of Harlem 4 Obama. “This is about ‘civilitea.’ But don’t let the smooth taste fool you.”
“Our premise is that we have allowed the Tea Party to shape the debate,” Whyte said. “We’re going to take back the definition of tea party. They wanted to define us, we’re redefining them.”
Whyte said Harlem 4 Obama members would heed the example of those who peacefully demonstrated during the Civil Rights Movement.
“In their quiet dignity, they went up against dogs and firehouses in Selma,” Whyte said. “They came back with the moral authority.”
Oscar Carter, 65, of Harlem, told the crowd: “President Obama, we want you to know, Harlem has your back!”
Tekima Berlack, a retired social worker who was born and reared in Harlem, said, in some instances, racism has fueled the vitriolic criticism of the president.
“I think it’s racism,” said Berlack, who held up a sign that read “Expand Pell Grants for Low Income Students.”
I’m specifically here for [Obama’s] reelection and to bring the jobs bill to the public’s attention,” Moore-Bruno said. “We need to pass this bill for all Americans, not just Harlem.”

I just listened to Danny Glover tell a crowd in L.A. that the AJA was insufficient, that it gave false hope.
I could not bear to finish listening. I was drawn to the clip because it was titled “Danny Wakes Up”; I fully expected Danny to be fighting for the AJA. I was wrong and terribly disappointed. He is as virulently against Obama as any on the right.

It’s so annoying, beside complaining, what the hell do they do that is constructive, instead of targeting the Republicans, the do nothing Congress……….it’s always about the President
