I know it can be a complete pain in the butt to have to sign in on the site to post a comment, but, just to repeat, because of past, well, difficulties, anonymous comments are no longer accepted here.
Apologies to those who tried to post anonymously today, but please understand it’s all part of the effort to keep out the bigots and nutjobs, ie the Fire/Teabaggers. As I always say, they have lots of other places to play and post their bile – but they won’t post it here.

I know, it all sounds very Big Brother-ish, but WordPress provides a way for blog owners to identify those who use multiple names when they post on their blogs, so if you were blocked after posting bile here before, you’ll still be blocked even if you use a shiny new name. Just letting you know, to save you all that time and effort.

Hiya MT, I just want it to be your site and a site for all the other good people who comment here. The Firebaggers are trying to overrun every pro-President Obama site these days, their hatred truly knows no bounds, so I’ll carry on – I promise you – putting them in this blog’s trash, which is where they belong.
I see some indication on twitter that the queen of the firebaggers, Miz Hamster, is now trying to take credit for OWS, or claim it as her own, or something. Which throws up huge red flags for me. There are some suspicious forces at work here, like the faction of OWS who demonstrated in front of Obama’s Chgo headquarters today, blaming him for the state of the economy and the war in Afghanistan etc. I’m uncomfortable with this thing. I can see it doing more harm than good, unless someone starts directing traffic—-which appears unlikely. Too many, who do not have President Obama’s best interests at heart, are jumping into the fray.

Wait til winter set in. We will see how manuy people are truly commited to the movement. The people in Wisconsin who endured through snow and rain knew exactly what they wanted and they did followed through to make it happen. You are right about these obama bashers jumping in and being allowed to speak like Cornell West and Dylan Ratigan. I saw West speaking and I heard Ratigan speaking on a radio show which i stubling upon on my iPad.

I was sickened yesterday when I saw footage of Smiley and West with bullhorns with the Occupy LA group. Of course Smiley took the opportunity to plug his TV show and talk about their so-called “poverty” tour. I’ll be he and West won’t be the ones in poverty when their book about the tour comes out, probably right before the elections next year. I have no inside information on this, I’m just going by Smiley’s past performance. He always had a “book” ready right before his State of Black America summits.
They are trying to latch onto this movement as though they had something to do with it. Neither Tavis nor West were particularly interested in poverty until this year. Now they’re acting like there was no poverty until 2 and a half years ago. West sometimes looks (and sounds) like he’s lost his mind.
The Occupy groups are just starting. They are sometimes a bit too unfocussed–Allowing West and Smiley to speak in LA, and denying John Lewis an opportunity to speak in Atlanta. They really need to get it together and decide who they want to be.
Thank you for doing such a wonderful job of keeping this site sane. The haters of President Obama have a myriad of sites to post their venomous attacks on the President. I am grateful that you have insisted on keeping this site free of these people.

It’s been reported before that the GOP are paying trolls/teabaggers/bigots to post on liberal and progressive blogs to stir the pots. Some even have them say, “I was a former democrat….blah, blah, blah.” I’m glad to see you take these steps to keep this a positive blog. Frankly, I’m really tired of reading so much hatred and negativity on other sites. Thanks for what you’re doing. I have made coming here to read the great articles my daily ritual…..goes real well with my coffee in the morning since I don’t read the newspaper anymore. 🙂

I am a senior who forgets to log in before I post my comment–my bad!!! I will absolutely do better. This is a big “THANK YOU” to the wonderful Chipsticks for providing this warm community of support for those of us who believe this Presidency has worked for everyday citizens. We know President Obama cares about our nation and our union becoming “more perfect!” We may not understand or agree with every decision he makes, but we do know we want him making those decisions for us. The defining moment for me in deciding to support President Obama in 2007 was when our now First Lady Michelle Obama said in an interview “no one can work harder than my husband!” I was impressed by this statement because our First Lady grew up poor on the Southside of Chicago. For a young black female to be as accomplished as is the First Lady, with her background, means she knows how to work hard. Her comment made me pay attention to the President’s work habits, and I do agree with the First Lady. President Obama works harder, and smarter. We need that energy and focus on all problems affecting America today. The First Lady also works hard. That is what President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama bring to the table in my opinion. President Obama expresses hope and joy for and about America. He believes what I believe about America–we are not at our end-game, we are about to roll-up our sleeves, and get to work making America better, more inclusive, and more successful. This election will be the most important in my lifetime because it will determine WHO we Americans are for the next century. I am going to stick with President Obama and the Democratic Party. I know my vision for our country, and their vision for our country is similar. Again, all of my thanks to Chipsticks. Please, please do not give up on us. We NEED you, just like we need President Obama. You allow us to have a rational conversation about our democracy. There is no other place like TOD community.
Please leave President Obama out of the Protestors, he the President of the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA not an occupier. If the occupiers can turn John Lewis away, they can do the same to PBO. IMHO.
Not to mention that the goal of the movement will be tarnished if President Obama gets involved, because it would be about him and not the protesters fighting for whatever cause it is… and that’s an issue that I’ve noticed, they have no united message or any sense of unity.

Yep. read an article where they turned down support from members of the freaking progressive caucus. How is Pres. Obama going to be welcomed by these people. They want to work with him then they ought to make the first move. Pres. Obama has stated that he understands them and should leave it at that.

Same here I come here often, just to wind down and enjoy some positive news for a change. I keep wondering how America became such a HATEFUL place, and then I recall our history, and remember that there are people who are still fighting the civil war (150 years later), trying to resegregate schools, change the voting laws to RESTRICT voting, make whole classes of Americans persona non grata, and I things are better, but the fight is by no means over.
Even this “movement” that started on Wall Street a few weeks back is looking suspiciously corrupt. One can only hope they will find true leaders–maybe among the union groups that are supporting them–so they can become more foccussed. That means Getting Rid of the far right AND far left hangers on that are corrupting their message around the country.
(Did anybody watch Dylan Ratigan trying to align this movement with the Tea Party? Does this guy EVER know what in the heck he’s talking about?

The protestors do not speak for me, and I would not want Obama to assume or act as though they did. There are too many involved whose motives I am leery of. Just my opinion. The rhetoric and demos rings bells that are consistent with PLology. NOT all comments, not all protestors, but enough.

Just as he did in a nationally televised interview when the Wisconsin dust-up was happening earlier this year. Ed Schultz did his show there in New York one night and I think he was a little disillusioned because it did not go as well as other shows he has done with union members. The people on camera behind him appeared to not want him there and screamed loudly when he mentioned something about Obama supporters. So far, all I am hearing from folks there who they allow in front of a camera are nothing but excuses when they are asked about solutions.

It is one of those videos that I play when I need to remind my self that challenge no obstacle can permanently stand in the way of a person who has great vision, empathy, and courage. Challenges may come but that means resolution is somewhere around the corner and one just needs to be patient and hold on for change is always in the future.
Either way, I dedicate this you, President Obama, Team Obama , TOD members and those who continue to appreciate the Change that has already come since we formally handed global leadership to President Obama.

My husband and I went to the OccupyPhilly protest today and it was actually fun; some of the protesters were chanting, “We are fired up”. There was ONE identified “teabagger” and one “communist-plant”, she may have been from FoxNoise.
The protest was mostly about justice for the 99% and equality for all.

She was never involved in anything political before ’08 and even worked (for months) in her local city’s Democratic headquarters for candidate Obama. She’s already been in touch to work with them again between now and the ’12 election, attending a couple of meetings so far, and is a steady $ contributor.

He is the least publicity-driven politician out there – and he was marching and bleeding when most of these protesters’ parents were still kids. I appreciate your efforts to keep this site free of firebaggers. I think it is easy to distinguish constructive criticisms that desire to improve things from those that trade in poutrage. The former is of course an essential part of the discourse, while the latter is at best using up bandwidth and at worst disempowers people.
I don’t comment often, but I read everything. Thanks to Chips for this great place to get the news and also positive comments. What a great service to our president.

Thank you Chips~ for keeping this place troll free.. it is so welcoming to be able to read comment after comment that is based in fact, kindness and smarts.. your posts + everyone’s comments are what make this place a true treasure trove of goodness. Last week I was guilty of forgetting to sign in a couple of times.. and I know of at least two times you ‘rescued’ my comments.. so a huge thanks for that and a promise to be more aware of checking to be sure I’m signed in each time I comment.
