thank you, espn

ESPN

Thank ESPN on Twitter – Monday Night Football’s PR guy here

****

USA Today: ESPN has dropped Hank Williams Jr. from opening Monday Night Football tonight after Williams controversial comments today about President Obama.

….. Williams, perhaps best known for his “are you ready for some football?” lead-in to ESPN’s Monday Night Football, Monday compared this summer’s so-called golf summit between Obama and House Speaker John Boehner as “one of the biggest political mistakes ever.”

As Williams put it on Fox News’ Fox & Friends: “It would be like Hitler playing golf with Benjamin Netanyahu.”

When asked on Fox to explain his analogy, Williams said Obama and Vice-President Biden are “the enemy.”

*****

It still isn’t clear if ESPN have just dropped the creep from tonight’s show – or completely. Keep tweeting, let them know what you think 😉

Good. Too bad his incoherent rant on Fox and Friends was just a cheapshot to launch his 2012 Senate campaign in Tennessee. With him comparing President Obama to Adolf Hitler, comparing Obama and Biden to the THREE STOOGES (last time I checked, 1+1=2 and NOT 3), and saying “The country this shape is in,” he’ll have no problems courting the stupid right wing country redneck vote to get elected in Tennessee.

He running for one of the highest offices in the country?????????? GEEZE.

Not sure if it’s US Senate or a local Tennessee Senate seat, but he’ll fit right in.

I think he is running for the U.S. Senate. He would be running against Bob Corker in the primary. Corker is fairly moderate and would probably be favored to win.

      • October 3, 2011 at 6:41 pm

He said all of this crap knowing that PBO watches ESPN and Monday night football. His statements were really insensitive. I am happy thaat ESPN wasn’t ok with this. Of course I am sure they got a lot of pushback. People don’t just sit idly by and let this stuff go anymore.

        • October 3, 2011 at 8:11 pm

It really must tick off these assholes that PBO is featured regularly, and in a positive light, on ESPN. They must HATE the fact that he fills out a March Madness bracket and that the on-air talent treat him with respect and seem to enjoy being with him. It drives them insane with jealousy and anger. So I agree, COS. I wouldn’t be surprised if he pulled this stunt on purpose. It’s not enough for these sociopaths to dislike something — they won’t rest until they spoil it for everyone else. They’re psychologically ill.

  4. 19 utaustinliberal
    October 3, 2011 at 6:36 pm

Good. Hope he was pulled permanently. Rightwingers and GOPTeabaggers think it’s just dandy to use racial slurs against President Obama or compare him to horrible bottom of the barrel dictators who had no regard for human life. They no longer bother to hide their hate for President Obama. They wear it as a badge of pride. But hey, why should I be surprised that his disgusting comments weren’t rebuked by Fox and Friends. After all; Fox News is where racists and bigots come home to roost.

    • October 3, 2011 at 7:24 pm

While I can’t judge Fox and Friends’ sincerity, Gretchen Carlson did say this on air after Williams’ comments:

“I just want to say that we disavow any of those comments or analogies that he’s made, at least I’m going to say that, disavow the analogy between Hitler and the president,” co-anchor Gretchen Carlson said after the segment.

      • 21 jacquelineoboomer
        October 3, 2011 at 9:00 pm

I was going to chime in that the first part of her statement “we disavow” sounded as though it came through her ear phone, but later in her comment when she said “at least I’m going to say that,” it sure sounds like she stood up alone to voice her opinion. So, good for her.

They need to permanently remove him from the intro of MNF otherwise we will all see, and he will know that they condone that racist, bigoted behavior….I told them that his statement offended me and his personal views had no place in that venue. I told them he needs to be fired from that spot and someone that is respectful put in…I’m sure that they could find someone much more appropriate.

Thank you for pulling from tonight—–but anyone who makes such hate-filled, divisive, disgusting comments, disrespectful of President Obama and the presidency, who has demonstrated a lack of decency and common sense—does not deserve to be showcased on their telecast—–or any telecast. How about these companies taking a chance on the American people who want to work, how about these companies taking a chance on this country they claim to love. And while you are at it, talk to the Tea Republicans and ask them why is it they refuse to put this country before their party. If they don’t like the President’s jobs bill, then why don’t they put forth a jobs bill? They know people are suffering but they don’t care, you can bet that if we still had a Speaker Pelosi, she would be doing all she can to work with this President to put people back to work. Hidden Democrats Emerging …

First, Toby Keith, Democrat, gives an extended interview where he declares it every American’s patriotic duty to pay his share of taxes – specifically, that the very rich and the corporations should stump up and pay.

But that’s not all, Huffington Post reports this:-

Toby Keith says gay marriage doesn’t bother him and trying to stop it wastes time and money.

The country superstar tells “CMT Insider” airing Saturday on CMT that he doesn’t see the reason behind getting into people’s personal lives. He says refusing a marriage license to people because they are gay won’t stop them from living together, so it accomplishes nothing.

Keith also weighed in on the military’s now-repealed “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy that banned gays serving openly in uniform. He says that anyone with the training and passion should have the right to defend the country, adding: “Somebody’s sexual preference is, like, who cares?”

A word from Nancy Pelosi on “Making History”

Thanks to you, we made history with a powerful and unforgettable showing. Democrats beat our $1.5 Million grassroots goal for September’s critical Federal Election Commission deadline!

Because of our incredible grassroots supporters we had a record-breaking deadline day on Friday. Please consider the records you helped us shatter:
The highest grossing day in online support in DCCC history.
The most contributions online in one day ever.
The most first-time online grassroots contributions in a single day.
Your overwhelming response and the groundswell of support is humbling. I cannot thank you enough for your generosity.

This was the first FEC deadline since President Obama introduced the American Jobs Act. It’s clear that Democrats stand stronger and more united than ever before in our fight to win the House Majority, grow the economy and respond to House Republicans’ extreme agenda.

The generous contributions of grassroots Democrats will be put to work immediately in our aggressive effort to hold Republicans accountable with targeted advertising, grassroots organizing, and rapid response research.

Thank you again for your extraordinary, record-breaking support. Onward to more Democratic victories together!

    Nancy Pelosi

P.S. It’s critical we get as many signatures as possible for our petition calling on House Republicans to pass the American Jobs Act. Please sign our petition right now telling Speaker Boehner and House Republicans to pass the bill. Then, share it on Facebook and Twitter. Thank you.

Going over to the NFL site and the thread about this silliness, I can’t blame ESPN for pulling HWJ. Just pure nastiness and ignorance on behalf of some of the posters there.

NFL is an American pastime, a sport, and governmental politics should NOT be part of the conversation. Period. You don’t see NFL folks going on the cable news channels espousing their political views, because football is supposed to take our minds off of all that.

I personally see this situation playing out like this: HWJ issues your typical right wing non-apology apology, and ESPN reinstates his song. Although, IMO it would be wise for ESPN to cut HWJ and get someone more current, or even better, not even have an opening at all… I’ve never found that opening to “pump” me up for MNF, so why even bother with one? Most folks have already downed their first beer by the time the opening comes around.

In my area we are holding a rally in the courthouse which is a joint rally – Jobs not Cuts and Occupy Santa Rosa combo. We expect a large crowd, and I am confident the rally will support the American Jobs Act and the President.

I had read that Jr was a teabagger so not surprised by this. Too bad he’s such a brainwashed asshole, though.

Nashville is ful of non-brainwashed Dems, though! Ha.
