The White House Press Corps have turned into layers today. It is not a briefing today, it is a court of law.

    • September 30, 2011 at 1:30 pm

Funny, I never heard them ask these questions during Shrub’s reign. Telling.

Some of the White House Press Corps reporters were very concerned about the fact that he was an American. They were practically interrogating Jay Carney about that fact. Jay Carney was not giving up any details about the operation and it was driving the jackals crazy.

I think the reporters are just so flummoxed by this staggering record that they can’t formulate any intelligent questions to ask. And most importantly, I think they hate it when President Obama makes the previous administration look bad. So instead of focusing on this successful operation itself and what it may mean for national security, they are trying to generate some controversy to distract attention. In this case, the key issue they harped on was that he was an American. They seem to think that he should have been handled differently because of that. I think it is a bit of the “Look At That Shiny Object” reporting.

Remember when the questions use to be “can you understand why Americans don’t want to put terroist on trail on US soil” “people are afraid, are you saying they shouldn’t be”….now it’s “why didn’t he get due process”….*sigh*

So true – weren’t they screeching and saying that that other American shoe bomber shouldn’t have been read his Miranda rights, because he was a terrorist? Now they want due process. Takes away any shred of credibility with their questioning.

If he had been captured, then where did they want him held? The right doesn’t want terrorists on US soil. The left doesn’t want anyone in Gitmo. Everyone doesn’t want these foreign prison or black sites. So, was he going to be sent to the International Space Station? On what shuttle, since the US doesn’t have a shuttle program anymore? They’re all crazy. And irrelevant.

They were all disgusting. Al – Alwaki was a terrorist and was rightly treated as such.

What I like about Benen: as a progressive, he’s willing to discuss these issues. But with deft skill, he laid out the issues, ever-wary of hurting the President.

A skill the PL does not possess.

Well put 57, I love Steve Benen. His posts are always thoughtful, crisp and to the point. He is the first blog I check each morning after The Obama Diary of course. He has a way with words. And a sense of humor that is wicked.

How is kililng Awlaki, an American citizen who has chosen the terrorist lifestyle, different from ordering a passenger jet full of Americans to be blown out of the sky if it’s been commandeered by terrorists and heading towards a major city to do mass harm? I am sure both decisions would not be taken lightly.

          • September 30, 2011 at 6:08 pm

President George Washington, revered by many Americans, ordered the execution of members of his own army for treason during the Revolutionary War. If many Americans studied their own history, they’d KNOW this. The U.S. Constitution is very clear on the issue of treason. If they studied it, they’d know that Awlaki was guilty of treason, and that the sentence for treason is DEATH—even for an American citizen.

    Obama’s Missing Bravado

Sep 30, 2011 11:37 AM EDT Obama has nearly decimated al Qaeda. Why doesn’t he brag about it? Michael Tomasky on liberals’ squeamishness at thumping their chests—and the endless victory lap that Bush would have taken.

    • September 30, 2011 at 1:52 pm

Liberal squeamishness? Barf. How about taking a page out of the military’s handbook. You don’t see the people who actually carry out these missions bragging about it. Bragging about it is so adolescent male and Our President is an adult. Has nothing to do with being squeamish.

In March, The Wall Street Journal reported that West had taken credit for a new runway at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport. The project was funded by a $21 million federal grant through the government’s Airport Improvement Program.

Wow, I just happened to turn to MSNBC live tv and caught the latter part of PBO’s interview with Smerconish. I couldn’t get the links to work given to us by our dear Chips. I really respect Smerconish. I like the lighthearted question about FLOTUS shopping at Target at the end of the interview.

Great interview. I watched on MSNBC TV. Links don’t always work for me, but the interview was outstanding. The President was out in front of every questions. It amazes me how he can keep so much information in the powerful brain of his. Any subject, he’s on it. He enjoyed the question about the First Lady. I saw today that she was shopping for dog food and treats for Bo.

I loathe Republicans. I cannot give words to how much I loathe them. That the MSM accepts their behavior and actively works to get these monsters elected should be treason. Read this and gag:

HuffingtonPost actually had this story up as their main earlier today. They do a good job of pointing out what a horribly bad job the media has done with this story. They thrive on controversy, do absolutely everything they can to get it swirling and then when the “real facts” come to light and the controversy is debunked, they do almost nothing to report that.

As much as I can’t stand Republicans, the only way they get away with their shenanigans is that the mainstream media is complicit in it. If the media was truly doing what they are supposed to then these manufactured controversies would lose steam almost immediately. Much of the obstacles that we will face in the next election will be because of the laziness and malpractice of the media.

        September 30, 2011 at 5:21 pm

fast news cycle or not, when did it stop being the media’s job to pick up an effing phone and verify facts before reporting a story? American media is a complete sham.

I can see missing the pertinent facts by a number of hours. But when days and days go by with the same lies repeated ad nauseum, there is something deeply, fundamentally broken with how Americans receive their news.

I now lump the entire MLM (“mainstream lazy media”)’s drain on capital in this country with professional ballplayers. All you sports fans, don’t even bother flaming me! I’ll fight you tooth and nail on what schools could do with that money; literacy programs, the arts which actually teach children how to think and reason and appreciate history. I could go on and on………

Harry Reid’s Wife Diagnosed With Breast Cancer

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid’s wife has been diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer, the Las Vegas Sun reports.

    From The Sun’s Jon Ralston:

“Senator and Mrs. Reid appreciate the thoughts and concerns expressed during this time.” Reid spokesman Zac Petkanas said in response to my inquiry. “They ask that they be afforded the respect and privacy that any family would want.”

(VIDEO) :Michele Bachmann Cribs From Mitt Romney On Immigration 😆 😆 😆

Michelle Bachmann is just out with her newest web video, this one attacking Rick Perry for saying people who believe the children of illegal immigrants brought to America against their control shouldn’t be allowed to pay in-state tuition don’t have “a heart.”

For observers paying close attention to another of Bachmann’s rivals, Mitt Romney, the new video sounds very familiar.

    Here’s Bachmann:

Last week we conservatives were accused of not having a heart. Nothing could be further from the truth. It’s just that we have a mind to go with that heart and failing to act rationally under the rule of law has created chaos on our borders.

    Here’s the video, released Friday:

And here’s Mitt Romney at CPAC Florida last Friday:

My friend Governor Perry said that if you don’t agree with his position on giving in-state tuition to illegals, that you don’t have a heard. I think if you’re opposed to illegal immigration, it doesn’t mean that you don’t have a heart. It means that you have a heart and a brain.

    Some video of that:

Interestingly, the “full text” the Bachmann campaign sent around to reporters Friday didn’t include the “mind to go with that heart” line. Here’s what they sent:

Illegal immigration is a problem in the United States and unfortunately the federal government has failed us all to often. We have a narcoterrorism war on our southern border. As President of the United States I will build the fence – every mile, every yard, every foot, every inch. American needs to have its southern border protected. I will also fully resource our border security guards. I will tell them, ‘If you uphold the law, we will have your back.’ I’ll do the same for our ICE agents and the interior of the United States as well. For too long our laws on the books haven’t been enforced. The problem isn’t the laws; the problem has been the politicians. I will stand behind our laws and stand behind our agents, and I’ll have their back. Also as President, I’ll make sure we no longer enforce or support policies that act as magnets to bring illegal aliens into the United States. We need to stop taxpayer subsidies to illegal aliens. As President of the United States, you have my word; I will solve the problem of illegal aliens.

TPM asked Team Bachmann for comment:

“No she did not refer to Romney’s speech, it was her own speech,” spokesperson Alice Stewart said.

And just as loopy Bachmann didn’t ever understand what a debt ceiling was, she now has demonstrated that she has no clue what “Arab spring” means. She’s out there yelling that the reason there is an Arab spring is because of Barack Obama!!! She thinks that’s a bad thing and that she’s really nailing him on this. Unless she doesn’t think it’s a good thing that these countries are becoming democracies. She’s unknowingly giving Obama a compliment——she is the biggest ditz of all time.

This doesn’t surprise me – they’re all reading off the same playbook anyway, and offering nothing but the same failed GOP policies. And, besides, both Romney and Bachmann are peddling lies – the Federal government has been doing a whole lot to secure this country, and it’s borders. They (the GOP) are just liars.

I tried to get the 2nd video on his blog as it was set at the pertinent point but I had an epic fail copying it. 😦 The part that references Prez O is @ approximately 36;18. [ The video itself is about an hour long] Hope you can find it as it reminded me that some youth in the ‘Arab Spring’ are inspired by PBO

This is good news – it means that some of them are still open to reason. They have to know that President Obama is being the president of the entire country, and he’s done a lot to try to include ideas from both the right and the left, while inflicting as little harm as possible.

This is a great interview. Why can’t the so called White House Press as intelligent questions.

    • September 30, 2011 at 6:16 pm

Because their agenda is not to be truth-tellers but to be rumor mongers and promoters of outlandish conspiracy theories. They are in the business of helping their news outlets make money and profits, so imo, they couldn’t care less about real journalism. Rumors and conspiracies get more web site clicks and sell more papers. They should be ashamed of themselves, but they’re not–their large salaries have motivated them to hit the “OFF” switch in their brains and consciences.
