Forgive me if this has already been posted. I’ve been in and out today.

The days when the Black community might expect a specialized program funded and designed solely to help the children of the middle passage have been over for a generation, and the generation of Black leadership that might expect such a thing has seen their time pass.

Some leadership have become as useful as the little thingy in the middle of old 45 records albums and just as timely. Our President has shown that Black people can lead White ones from the highest offices in the land when just 20 years ago White people wondered if we had the “necessities” to run a baseball team. The President just did so with strength and swagger, and he shouldn’t have to waste any more words addressing the Cornell West/Tavis Smiley wing of Black leadership. We’ve got work to do as he has so succinctly pointed out, and that work doesn’t include the jaw jacking from a previous era.

I expect all of you to march with me and press on. (Applause.) Take off your bedroom slippers, put on your marching shoes. Shake it off. (Applause.) Stop complaining, stop grumbling, stop crying. We are going to press on. We’ve got work to do, CBC.

    Damn right Mr. President.

i have mixed feelings about that statement about what is need and expected in the Black community…but i will say what has happened ….is that because of the succession and subsequent record unemployment number…some of these same folks who now need food astamps and unemplyoment benefits are no longer talking about those other folks who just sit home and collect a check…experience has a way of changing one’s perspective….

      and in addition……..

even if at the midpoint of 2012 unemployment drops to 7 or 8 %….there still will be higher unemployment in the black community…there still be inequities in education…housing….hiring…etc….

so there still will be a need to continue the fight and demand an end to the inequities.

      Fireddddddddddddddddddd UP…..Ready to GOOOOOOO….

Donna – I shared that link with a friend via email. She wrote back (I thought this was enjoyable to read so I’m sharing it here, too):

We forget sometimes that PBO gets it from so many sides. Where he gets his patience, his ability to stick to the right course, his unflappable energy, and his wit is beyond me. I’m also impressed by his pitch-perfect mastery of various audience-tailored styles.

Listening to him last night in his impressive speech at CBC, it’s clear to me that when he gets discouraged, he thinks about the civil right activists and MLK. And he has said many times he’s also inspired by Ghandi, Mandela. People who were beatened, killed, or put in prison for years. I think he’s telling himself that what he’s going through pales in comparison to what THOSE people went through. It doesn’t ease the pain and the frustration but it puts things in perspective for him.

I’ve watched this man closely for four years now. He’s everything a politician SHOULD be: bright, dedicated, HONEST, and UNSELFISH. A very rare combination. In fact, he’s a statesman in every sense of the word.

  17. September 25, 2011 at 6:39 pm

    My Sunday Morning Adventure……

So, I’m on my way to http://huntington.org/ for an on-site rehearsal with my Cask of Amontillado cast, and I decide to stop at a Starbucks on California St in Pasadena on my way, because it’s the crack of fucking dawn on a Sunday.

I’m standing in line… two women are in front of me talking and I hear, “I can’t believe they say they’re all the same, and I don’t want to vote- that’s crazy!”

So – you all know what coming……. I SAY (because I have Political Tourette’s), “It is INSANE. THREE. There will be THREE SUPREME COURT APPOINTMENTS between NOW and 2017.”

They both look at me in horror, and say, “EXACTLY!”

So we all get into it…… And one of them says, if they don’t vote, then they have no right to complain….. and I say, “I was watching Bill Maher last night, and Michael Moore, as much as I love him, says something so stupid, he says – ‘Obama should have blah blah blah when he had 60 votes’ and WE NEVER HAD 60 VOTES NOT EVEN FOR A MICRO-SECOND because Kennedy DIED, FRANKEN wasn’t seated for 7 MONTHS, and Lieberman never votes with us…. But if ***I*** know we never had 60 votes, who is it that Michael Moore doesn’t know that?????”

So one of the women made a comment about how she wished she knew more about HCR because she was a NURSE, and of course (you know me – I was ALL OVER THAT!) And I laid it out for her that Single Payer is ON THE WAY with the non-profits if we can just NOT BE STUPID…… and we talked some more…. and one of them mentioned her ex hubby who never votes, and I jumped in again and said, “Well, that’s when I’d tell him, “I AM PICKING YOUR ASS UP, and I WILL TAKE YOU TO THE POLLS WHER YOU WILL FUCKING VOTE FOR THE SAKE OF EVERYONE YOU KNOW – AND THEIR CHILDREN.”

Of course, there was only one poor person at this Starbucks (inside a Vons) who was working, so we had that much time…. but IT WAS AWESOME!!!

Then I had a nice rehearsal..

    Just had to share.

Now I am le tired, so I am going to have le nap……. 😀

Makes me want to slap some serious stupid out of them Berkeley needs to review these student’s admission applications.

If The Europeans – the OG ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS – had stayed AT HOME, and not brought their original small pox ridden blankets with them, and stayed the FUCK OUT OF NORTH AMERICA, we’d never have this problem.

Sorry – but there’s nothing that pisses me off more than ignorant, rich WHITE people, who have had every opportunity for a well-rounded education – who end up at an amazing school like UCBerkeley, and haven’t had their STUPID GENE removed by then.

I love Seattle! My youngest brother lives there. I love the way the people interact with each other. He wants me to move there, and I’m definitely considering it now that I’m a retired person. I’ve lived in GA all of my life, and it’s downright depressing here in Middle Ga these days sine BO became POTUS. I live in the same city that Erick Erickson of CNN hails from, so that should tell anyone all he/she needs to know about this place.

I live in Seattle and absolutely LOVE It! Honestly, just a great place to live, incredibly beautiful and chock full of liberals! BUT, I will be honest and say that the weather really can get a bit depressing sometimes. We don’t have a lot of extremes, which is great but oh boy sometimes the drizzle and gray skies can just be a bit much. Usually the summer is enough to make us forget about all of that, but not always. At the end of the day I can’t imagine living anywhere better 😉
