I promise, I’m not making this up – edp4bho let me know about the latest Fox/Teabagger outrage (even Brian ‘serious journalist’ Williams ‘reported’ it): the President held his right hand up for .23 seconds during the ‘family’ photo at the United Nations this week (he was jokingly gesturing towards the photographers, asking them if they had enough photos yet), obscuring the face of the man beside him for, well, .23 seconds.

Honest, this is actually being reported as news!

Well, true, it’s right up there with invading Iraq on false pretenses.

Actually, I love this stuff – it shows just how desperate the President’s opponents are. I mean, is that all they’ve got? ๐Ÿ˜†

Were there any wave-less photos? Um….

….. and dozens more.

I’m reposting this stuff about PBO’s next itinerary from last thread. I think the only public thing will probably be the Town Hall on Monday.

Heโ€™s coming to Washington, California and Denver on a fundraising swing beginning on Sunday. It goes something like this, although I think some details are still in flux:

    Sept 25th
Seattle: 2 events โ€“ Seattle morning brunch with donors ponying $38,500 per couple. Then a lunch @ $1,000, $2,500 for VIP seating, $7,500 for a photo op.

Silicon Valley (evening): 2 events โ€” a fundraiser reception hosted by Symantec CEO for $2,500 general admission; $7,500 (or $10,000 for two) for photo op. Then an exclusive dinner at private home in Silicon Valley with $38,500 per person donation. Thatโ€™s the highest ticket in the whole swing. Rumor is the host is Facebook COO Sheryl Sandbergโ€™s house in Atherton.

    Sept. 26th
PBO will be in the Bay Area for the LinkedIn Town Hall.
Then the San Diego area for a noon lunch limited to 160 people at the home of Elizabeth and Mason Phelps in La Jolla. That will cost $5,000 per person; $10,000 per person for a photo line, and $35,800 per couple to be a VIP co-chair.

Then on to LA for a reception at the House of Blues. Prices range from $250 โ€“ $10,000. In the evening, dinner and discussion at a restaurant $17,900 per person, $35,800 per couple.

He wraps up his West Coast tour with a stop in Denver on September 27th.

  14. September 22, 2011 at 4:38 pm

He raised his hand and asked the photographer if he had enough pictures already. It’s a none-story just like most of the news.

Thanks Chips. First it was the tripping in Italy, then the car stall in Ireland, the “speaking while music played” at the Queen’s dinner. It is truly absurd that they, and I mean ALL media, tries to make PBO look as inept as the last occupier of the WH. So far, our President hasn’t choked on a pretzel, mangled the English language, or ducked shoes yet, so they sit around and play little kiddie games to jerk off to. Oh, mustn’t forget the Presidential Seal malfunction or the sitting in the window after a bball injury, and can’t forget one Courtland Milloy railing that PBO should man up over that busted lip. The media in my opinion, is the beast in the book of Revelations. I need to study this a bit more as they are truly satanic.

They are satanic, Ed. I’m convinced of that, because they seem to have no conscience, no sense of the humanity of their fellow man. They’re God-less, by definition.

The fact that they don’t want to report on real news, but they can spend time on a 0.23 second wave, which didn’t harm anyone – there’s no other conclusion.

        September 22, 2011 at 4:51 pm

Yes, as my mom always said, the devil is busy. This is not innocence….innocence is for children. It’s all malicious, and thing is, they don’t even know how much they themselves are demeaning the office of the presidency. Once that happens in whole, you got nothing to aspire to. Though I truly blame the term of GWB for the beginning of this with his ineptness and maligning of people’s rights. The media just continues the degradation. This country is on a slow path to self-annihilation. You can’t hate one part of the country without killing the spirit of the rest of it. As PBO says, we are one nation and one people. These miscreants haven’t figured that out yet.

        • September 22, 2011 at 5:47 pm

Yes, the devil IS VERY BUSY! There is a term called “jumping the shark” meaning when a situation has deteriorated to such a degree that extreme measures are taken to correct that situation but the attempt at correction seems ridiculous and it fails There is a point of no return. I think the “liberal” have reached that point. This is SO RIDICULOUS as to be beyond laughable. This is Bush Derangement on steroids. The pundits/talking heads are trying to make President Obama seem like an unintelligent oaf like GWB. The corporate/”liberal” is trying make the cipher Mitt Romney the next president of the USA.

I used to have a small amount of respect for Brian, but I see he is just a well-paid TOOL. I guess what surprised me (Yes, I must be naive) was he didn’t even seem to be embarrassed/ashamed to “report” this “story”. Situations such as these is why I don’t own a TV. Watching it is a big waste of time. I use the internet.

That you could or would spend a nano second on this, shows us just how far journalism has fallen. Journalism dies a thousand deaths every day and it certainly did. What would have been a great piece is how the Palestinians have decided to delay the vote at the United Nations thanks in part to President Obama making clear that peace negotiations should be between Palestine and Israel.

I was most heartened when I heard that PBO told his staff not to turn on each other after the Suskind fiasco. This tells you so much about this man. The media would love nothing more than a 24/7 loop after loop of staff infighting in the White House. Media Fail Big Time once more!!

Black President, Double Standard: Why White Liberals Are Abandoning Obama
    by Melissa Harris-Perry

    • September 22, 2011 at 5:28 pm

Donna, this was a good read. I agree with most of the article than disagree. 2012 will be a real test to see if folks are willing to vote against their own interest for someone who flip flops or someone who wants to make government, repeal all of our social programs. Time will tell.

    • September 22, 2011 at 5:32 pm

I agree there’s a double standard, but I would like to meet the white liberal that presses the button for Romney or Perry on election day. Because, you what? They wouldn’t be liberals. A lot of white liberals I know complain and whine and moan, but when I ask them–will you be voting for Romney or Perry?–they always looked shocked and say of course not. Generalizations about groups always annoy me. I’m an old, white, female liberal and I haven’t wavered one iota in my support of my president.

OT – This just shows how terrified the Massachusetts GOP is of the amazing and wonderful Elizabeth Warren. This is sheer desperation and fear culminating into a double standard of epic proportions.

Massachusetts GOP Urges Harvard Not To Pay Elizabeth Warrenโ€™s Salary

A commenter at TP (Jan Shaub) makes a good point. Representative Michele (with one L) Bachmann is still getting paid and Governor Rick Perry is still getting paid while they seek to be the presidential candidate for their party. So I guess only Democrats should have their salary withheld they run for office. Got it. Thanks for clearing that up GOP.

    • September 22, 2011 at 5:19 pm

You are right Ladyhawke. The GOP is really afraid of Elizabeth. They have a genuine person in the blue state of Massachusetts who are willing to work for them without fronting in a pickup truck fooling the people. I think this seat is going to turn blue again. Scott Brown only won because the Democratic candidate was complacent. I think he is toast no matter how much money his wall street cronies spend.

    • September 22, 2011 at 5:25 pm

Since when is a university obliged to jump to the GOP’s tune. The president of Harvard should issue a short and sweet Mind Your Own Business response to the R’s. I’ll bet a lot of Harvard alumni, one of them named Barack Obama, could help the college draft the response.

Ron Reagan said something the other day in a clip I saw here on TOD. He said that Republican leaders think they are entitled to the White House. That thinking, I believe, bolstered by a media that coddles them has embolden this group to overreach daily.

As well, the American people, perhaps saddled with their own economic woes, ignores what they are doing and so they do what they do. I just know that as bad as it is for me and precisely because of that, it makes me wnat to get up every morning to fight for something better than what I am witnessing now.

Amb. Susan Rice is doing a great interview on CNN with Blitzer. She called what Ahmadinejad said at the UN to be “odious, hateful, anti-Semitic, unacceptable … ”

She also took down Bachmann who must have suggested the US “bar” Ahmadinejad from our country, which Blitzer just had to bring up. Amb. Rice said something like perhaps Michelle Bachmann doesn’t know that we have a treaty as host nation and that would be a violation of the treaty, if we tried to bar any leader from coming to the UN, etc.

    On her game!

    • September 22, 2011 at 5:39 pm

A President Bachmann or Perry would have us mired in wars for the next 100 years. That they don’t know something sometimes is okay, that’s what advisers are for, but when someone who knows tells them and they ignore it, that is dangerous. Both of these tools can hear the truth, ignore it, start some mess, and then, pretend they had nothing to do with it. Dangerous. Both of them.

Really needed to hear some live news this afternoon, as I wait for Rev. Al’s show. Turned on CNN earlier, and heard Joe Johns – who usually seems like a Republican hack to me – actually getting into the put down of the Rs for sending that first-ever letter to the Chairman of the Federal Reserve. Seemed like his heart was in it.

Then, that awful Gloria Borger (who keeps giving her opinion; even used the words “my opinion”; who cares what her opinion is?) also was saying Boehner is “frustrated” (cringe) but the reason she ended up giving was that he wasn’t able to keep the R House representatives all on the same page relating to the continuing resolution, etc. She mentioned Boehner said out loud that there will be no government shutdown. In MY opinion, he is admitting every day that he’s just playing more games.

    • September 22, 2011 at 5:52 pm

Personally, I think Boehner is in way over his head. And then you have lots of misinformed people in the media too, covering issues that they barely understand.

I haven’t watched TV for a long time, but judging from what I read here and other places, given the dire economic problems in the country, I have yet to see these hosts bring on a “real” economist to discuss the issues.

They bring on the same people over and again, spewing their own opinions with zero facts. On twitter, you see the show plugs night after night with the the same invited guests. To me that just sets the stage for groupthink. And besides, all of these people can’t be “Experts” on every single darn issue — whether it is health care, the environment, economy, war and on and one.

Heck we can get our own channel and get on TV and each give our own opinions on what we think of a given issue and we’ll probably do better than some of these guys.

They do a terrible disservice to the country.

I saw a tweet the other day from the Economist. It said something to the fact that the media did a disservice to the public by inviting people to participate in political campaign debate that they knew did not stand a chance of winning not even for dog catcher (my own words — the dog catcher bit).

      Just pitiful.
