You know jacquelineoboomer, I have decided that it is fine to say that we have a fine looking Presidenet. I am a senior, and I say it all the time. Just think, when will we have the honor and opportunity to say that again after 2017? Let us enjoy it now. We totally respect our beautiful First Lady and the girls, and our President. Just look at some of the world leaders around the globe. How many of their citizens can say,”Look at our fine, intelligent, loving, compassionate, and wonderful President. Not very many. But we do. And when we acknowledge it, I do believe that our family here mean it with all respect to him. He is fine. I am elated everytime I see his beautiful personality, his intellect, his loving ways with Michelle and the girls. It is beautiful. The more I read well researched books about him , the more I want him to have people look at him and say,”Look at our intelligent and fine President.” Because simply put, the man is both. So let us enjoy this beautiful gift with respect, which I do believe our family here has always displayed. Our President is a fine looking man!HZ

    • September 19, 2011 at 9:07 pm

Just wrote about that on the other tread. Savage is a colossal asshat. Said the admin basically learned their lesson after the LGBT gave some of their votes to Repugs and didn’t contribute to Dems. He sounded really proud. That is one dumb mofo. That ass is not long for politics. Good riddance.

      • September 19, 2011 at 9:30 pm

I try to let stuff just roll off now adays, but when I hear stuff like this it just gets my royal African goat. That Bill Clinton foisted this DADT on the gay community and walked away from them not looking back, and PBO comes in makes a promise and fulfills it and these nincompoops want to take credit is just freaking unbelievable.

ummmm……………IT’S CALLED RACISM FOLKS!! Homosexuals can be the most discriminated people in our society and this is how they act toward President Obama? Of course the few Dan Chois we see on TV don’t represent all gays in America, but they are representing the face. I bet none of them will mention their BELOVED President Clinton who signed DADT into law. 😡

BTW I have a feeling the President could care less who gets the credit as long as it was done. F all these wannabes and HATERS. 🙄

It seems that MSM only gives voice to people with big egos and lust for power. So tired of it. But in the long run, that’s not important. Those guys won’t be in the history books. President Obama will.

Note: there are plenty of gay people who appreciate what the Obama administration has done for gay rights. They rarely make it to the teevee, but let’s not forget them.

          September 19, 2011 at 10:46 pm

I was just about to say that Dan Savage is a Republican who does not speak for “The gays” anymore than Cornel West speaks for “the blacks.”

      September 19, 2011 at 9:20 pm

I saw it too and was so sickened and p’d off that I turned off the TV. Someone here, Fred I think posted a radio clip of one of the dallas leaders for the log cabin republicans with these same bs talking points. He was also encouraging gay repubs to get behind whomever the republican nominee is, “think of your pocket books.” The story is they were organized, they pushed and they had big money to give or withhold. This guy tonight ( progressive) stressed how it was only repealed after the elections of 2010. They had members vote republican too.

So thank you for the unnessary self inflicted wound of having to compromise, outsmart and otherwise deal with the republicans. I find it funny how they try so hard not to give credit to this President or democrats. Funny how their organization and money only worked on the dems. The dallas loghead guy talked out of both sides of his mouth on the one hand the president left them vulnerable by not letting it go to this supreme court, he then encourages members to vote for a guy who could be the one to put the whole repeal at risk. The wrong prez could slow it down with executive orders or even work to make a new law, and certainly block the many other gains the LGBT community is fighting for. I guess we all have choices and we all will all reap the rewards or damages of them. IDIOTS!

      • September 19, 2011 at 9:32 pm

So should we now blame the Gay community for the straight the country is in right now, because Savage admitted they intentionally sat out. I’m going to stop because I’m getting angry now.

        • September 19, 2011 at 9:37 pm

What a jerk. To say they sat out and are now taking credit for this just turns my stomach. These people don’t care if they’ve dragged the rest of the country with them down this ugly path. The 2010 election has had extreme negative long-term effects for the majority of this country. To hear them gloat just makes me sick. UGH. I better shut-up.

          • September 19, 2011 at 10:55 pm

I’ve figured out the real problem. These people are narrow-minded, extremely shortsighted, (politically) irresponsible, and selfish., They are unable to see the bigger picture (apart from their particular issue) and IMO we can lament their stupidity but we can’t stimulate their brains beyond its narrow scope. In a way it’s sad that they cannot give credit where and when it’s merited, nor can they ‘put country first’.

        • 33 ChristiMtl
          September 19, 2011 at 10:34 pm

Yes, that’s pretty much what he admitted, either they didn’t vote or voted for the Repugs.

Holding his feet to the fire…bla bla bla…the same crap, it only happened because of them.

He sounded like Dan Choi, just as ungrateful and crazy.

          • 34 hopefruit2
            September 19, 2011 at 10:47 pm

Dan Savage is a Republican as is Dan Choi.

            September 19, 2011 at 11:50 pm

They do know that some Republicans went to Africa to help pass a law to make being gay a death sentence eligible crime, right? So, these are the people they voted for, and now proudly declare that they did so? People who think of them as abominations, deserving death?

The good thing is that these ones who end up on TV don’t represent the entire gay community. There are plenty of gay people who know exactly who should get the credit, and they are proud of the President, and grateful, too.

The Log Cabin Republicans are IGNORANT. Most Teathug candidates have signed a anti-Gay marriage pledge. Hate propogates SO much IGNORANCE and they still want to contribute to the GOP? Mindboggling.

  8. September 19, 2011 at 9:20 pm

Looks like PBO is going to be playing hardball with China, too:

(Reuters) – U.S. trade officials will announce a major trade enforcement action against China on Tuesday, according to a U.S. Trade Representative’s office advisory obtained from a business group.

The advisory, which was distributed to media on a not-for-publication basis, said U.S. Trade Representative Ron Kirk “will hold a press conference to announce a major trade enforcement action against China.”

    • September 19, 2011 at 9:32 pm

I am officially in love with Gene Sperling of the Obama Administration Economic Team. He’s on Piers Morgan and he is not taking bullshit from Piers. Everytime Piers tried to suggest that PBO was punishing the wealthy and was committing class warfare, Gene interrupted him and dealt him the truth in no uncertain terms. He told Piers it’s not class warfare to want to invest in America, to grow the economy, to make sure that the wealthiest Americans pay their fair share so that the middle and working class no longer have to carry the lions share of the tax burden. Piers then said PBO was being disingenuous because the bill would not pass and that all the polls showing that the public want the wealthy to pay their fair share and for the AJA to become law don’t mean a thing and they especially don’t mean a thing to the GOP. Gene told him that yes they do mean something. He said that PBO is on the right side of history, that his touring the country and selling the AJA is working and that people are waking up and listening and realizing that the republicans are not serious about growing the economy and providing jobs.

Well, after that sound rebuking , Piers decided to talk about the Ron Suskind piece of crap book and how it mentions the infighting in the Obama white house, the lack of leadership shown by President Obama, how his economic team doesn’t respect him and and are ridiculous and how the Obama whitehouse is basically in tatters. This is where I officially fell in love with Gene Sperling. He immediately cut Piers off and wouldn’t let him get a word in edgewise. He told Piers that he can quote him and it is on the record: Ron Suskind’s book is full of lies and made up stories of events and statements that never occurred. He said he has been in the Obama white house from day one and the man Suskind describes is not the man and not the President he works with everyday. He said PBO has never ever lost his mojo, he is a phenomenal leader and his economic team doesn’t lead him around by the nose. He said PBO is one of the smartest men he has ever met and worked for in his life. He said that he worked in the Clinton white house for 8 years but the Obama white house is more phenomenal because PBO listens to everyone, he knows the issues like the back of his hand, he is on top of every nook and cranny of his administration. He said that there is no infighting in the administration and he wants to repeat this again; that Suskinds book is full of lies and made up stories. He said PBO is wonderful to watch and learn from because he is the same person day in and day out. He is consistent and above all a true leader.

    Sperling was great!

    • September 19, 2011 at 9:38 pm

halelujah! Sounds like a thing of beauty, and thank you for sharing. I think this was the same man on LOD show tonight and I was impressed. LOD was trying hard to sell this AJA and deficit plan as just a campaign effort. Mr. Sperling was not having any of that. He reminded LOD of republican responsibility. It’s a long ways till the next election and the American people are hurting now.

We need to see more of this man Sperling, he’s good.

    • September 19, 2011 at 9:47 pm

OMG, thank you so much for this summary, ut!! This is going to be an interesting fight regarding Suskind’s book. BRAVO to Sperling and Geithner, too, who delivered a great smackdown to Jake Tapper on the same subject today. LOVE these guys.

      • 61 Vero804
        September 19, 2011 at 10:50 pm

I, too, am watching how the WH is dealing with this book. I was hopeful that the portrayal of Geithner wasn’t true and hearing Geithner’s strong response today was reassuring for me. The “reality” as Geithner put it, must have been a series of serious decisions, needing to be made in no time. I certainly wish a more wholesale restructuring of Wall Street could have happened, but I believe “first, do no harm” ruled the day at the WH and makes sense in the grand scheme of things.

Thanks for the recap, UT. This book must be extra annoying for the WH since they apparently gave Suskind quite a bit of access, and with such access he decided to twist things and take advantage. Too bad.

    • September 19, 2011 at 9:49 pm

What can we say ’bout Piers? If you don’t know where you’re going, any road will take you there.

    • September 19, 2011 at 9:52 pm

Good for Sperling. It seems that everyone featured in the book has issued a downright denial of what Suskind wrote about them. (except maybe Christine Roemer ?) But it sounds like that book is full of crud, that the author set out to tell a story which was not reality. And he plagiarized wikipedia, for gods sakes, in the process, in addition to getting numerous basic facts/titles etc. wrong. I’m noticing a lot more instant pushback against the lies. Good.

      • September 20, 2011 at 8:39 am

What I don’t understand is, does Suskind think abusing people’s trust will add to his credibility going forward? Some of these people with access to the public forum are extremely short-sighted and shriveled up intellectually, and are unfortunately too unwise (dumb) to know when truth is the best option or failing that, self-effacement.

    • September 19, 2011 at 10:05 pm

      Oh, thanks so much UT.

I have no respect for these people who blatantly lie to line their pockets. This is all that this is about.

Just reading what you wrote about what Sperling said, I am reminded about something I read or saw with FLOTUs. She was talking about PBO and how he is meticulous about stuff. That he would read every morsel of everything put before him so that when he meets with his advisors he’s even more versed than they are.

I can’t remember if it was here or at BWD or TV that I saw this. But it has always stayed with me. And everytime I hear someone tallk about him being “weak,” it comes to mind.

Here is a man who had to wrestle with several major decisions, some risking his political capital and his whole presidency in the case of killing OBL, and people dare try to emasculate and undermine him.

As I have said, anyone who watches the documentary on how OBL was killed and repeats that stupid “weak” meme, ought to have his or her head examined.

      • September 19, 2011 at 10:19 pm

Piers Morgan is an idiot. Even with your endorsement of today’s program with Gene Sperling, but I’m not sure I can bring myself to watch it. I can’t believe that the right wing is coming right out and saying that the will of the American people means that nothing to the GOP, even though polls show that the American people are lined up squarely behind the President. This is who they are – exactly. Btavo for Gene Sperling on speaking the truth. even when confronted with pure evil.

From John Silvanus Wilson, Jr., Executive Director, White House Initiative on Historically Black Colleges and Universities in the program book: “When this office was established back in 1980, roughly 80 percent of the African Americans in American higher education were being educated inside of HBCUs. Today, 90 percent of African Americans are being educated outside of HBCUs, including 15 percent in for-profit institutions, 15 percent in Predominantly Black Institutions, and roughly 33 percent in community colleges (only14 of which are HBCUs).
“…This conference is tied to both the fulfillment of Presidential Executive Order 13532 and the pursuit of the goal set by President Obama and Secretary Duncan to have the best-educated and most-competitive and diverse workforce in the world by the year 2020. To meet this goal, our nation needs roughly 8 million more graduates overall, and nearly 2 million of them need to be African Americans. To do our part, HBCUs need to generate another 167 thousand graduates above our current base and pace by 2020. That means our annual production must climb from approximately 35.5 thousand graduates to over 54 thousand. That is no small challenge!”

Developers installed 69 percent more U.S. solar power capacity in the second quarter than a year earlier, led by commercial and government projects.
Developers installed 314.3 megawatts of solar photovoltaic power in the second quarter, compared with 186.5 megawatts in the same period a year earlier, according to the U.S. Solar Market Insight report released today by Solar Energy Industries Association and GTM Research.
Much of the growth was due to government incentives, including a U.S. Treasury Department program that reimburses developers 30 percent of projects’ costs, said Rhone Resch, the Washington-based trade group’s president. That program is set to expire at the end of the year.
“Solar is the fastest growing industry in the U.S.,” Resch said in an interview yesterday. “Our growth has directly benefited from the Treasury grant program. We have to keep those programs in place to keep up the pace and hire more workers.”

I begin by asking your indulgence for this lengthy post, but after today’s activities (still Monday on the west coast) I’m even more inspired and positive than normal by PBHO and about his re-election. Thank you in advance TOD family for your patience.

God blesses our President and BHO is as true as the North Star. I listened to his full keynote speech given at the 2004 Democratic National Convention. http://www.americanrhetoric.com/speeches/convention2004/barackobama2004dnc.htm He is absolutely the same great man that he was from the beginning (community organizing), with the same laser focus he’s always had. I will always believe in him no matter what.

Then Senator Obama walked out to the following song to deliver his keynote speech in 2004. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VrqJphU-1cI It’s very apropos to dedicate this song to his efforts now and throughout the 2012 campaign season. The following are the lyrics:

    Keep on pushing
    Keep on pushing

I’ve got to keep on pushing
    I can’t stop now
    Move up a little higher
    Some way or somehow

    Cause I’ve got my strength
    And it don’t make sense
    Not to keep on pushing

    Hallelujah, Hallelujah
    Keep on pushing

    Now maybe some day
    I’ll reach that higher goal
I know that I can make it
With just a little bit of soul
    ‘Cause I’ve got my strength
    And it don’t make sense
    Not to keep on pushing

    Now look-a-look, look-a-look, a-look-a-yonder
    What’s that I see
    A great big stone wall
    Stands there ahead of me
    But I’ve got my pride
    And I’ll move on aside
    And keep on pushing

    Hallelujah, Hallelujah
    Keep on pushing
    Keep on pushing
