“this is not class warfare, this is math”

Full video:

President Obama talks about cutting the deficit from the Rose Garden of the White House, September 19

****

“I reject the idea that asking a hedge fund manager to pay the same tax rate as a plumber or a teacher is class warfare.”

****

“It’s also about fairness. It’s about whether we are, in fact, in this together. And we’re looking out for one another. You know what’s right. It’s time to do what’s right.”

Yes you are so right, and all the freaking hateful Tea Republicans do is say No, No, No, you are not going to tax the people we care about, the ones we will fight till the death for. The millionaires and billionaires. While the middle class and working poor can suffer, they can lose their home, their job, their health insurance, the Tea Republicans won’t fight to help these people one bit.

I watched an interview with Jimmy Carter a few days ago and he said that they wrote ALL THE LEGISLATION in the White House when he was President and sent it to Congress to consider.

Breitbart to TeaPartiers:” we outnumber liberals and we have the guns.”

So I’m expecting the same outcry from the media than the one after the Huffa’s comment, right?

Breitbart is not an anonymous blogger.

So the T-party wanted an apology from Huffa and wanted the President to condemn his comment, everybody knew he was talking about voting them out. Not a call for violence whatsover, another fabricated scandal,.

    We have the guns??….

So this is not a call for violence?

Did I miss something? I’ve been away for the weekend, and haven’t seen any news. Did something happen that every one went from Obama bashing to an all out assault on the President coming from every one, left, right and center? or maybe it’s just my imagination. Thankfully we have TOD, to keep us all grounded. I don’t know what I would do without this place and the few other prog blogs. Thank you Chips and every one here for your positivity and sanity. 🙂

Good morning everyone. What a beautiful day to be alive. i woke up to Stephanie Miller and am now looking at MSNBC waiting for the President to speak. Nothing appears to have changed over the weekend. The poor thugs are screaming about hurting the “job creators” and whining about the size of the new french fries at McDonalds and how fat FLOTUS is.
Be encouraged folks ’cause i believe GOD has a plan.

PBO is putting forth “specific proposals … which cut $2 in spending for every $1 in new revenue … reducing farm subsidies paid to large farms that don’t grow anything … ‘modest adjustments’ to federal retirement programs under plan … structural reforms to reduce costs of Medicare, Medicaid … to STRENGTHEN Medicare and Medicaid over time … won’t balance budget by reducing health care for poor children or those with disabilities … scouring the budget for every dime of waste and inefficiency”

It will take “a balanced approach … it’s only right we ask everyone to pay their fair share … ”

(not verbatim – just what I caught)

    • September 19, 2011 at 11:10 am

He’s really doing a SUPERB job. He’s feeling it. He’s delivering it with passion and determination, point by point. It’s a very tight plan that will appeal to ordinary Americans WITHOUT a doubt. The PL and idiot right-wing will go off for whatever reason, but he’s speaking to middle class and lower class Americans who are struggling.

I also loved the part where he show Boehner to be the jackass that he is. When doing Boehner speech last week he said something like we can’t have this my way or the highway attitude, then Boehner turn right around and said what he won’t stand for. So according to the nut from the other planet, the President or Dems can’t have the my way or the highway attitude, but he and the T-Republicans can.

  38. September 19, 2011 at 11:36 am

I know I sound like a broken record, but wouldn’t it be cool if Buffett and a couple of other wealthy guys and gals in their tax bracket could do a press conference to support the plan and take it one more step by doing ads to be played in all 50 states supporting this plan?

Or any tech savvy people here, can we do something on the Internet and get people committed on FB, Twitter, every means necessary to push it?

    Wishful thinking, I know.

I am just really excited by what PBO has done here today.

Hope Dems would do ad calling out every single person that signed Norquist pledge.

OK. Just thought I throw that out there.

I agree with you Jacqueline. Tim Geithner is a smart, committed, capable, and, all and all, a very decent human being. The firebaggers hated him just because Arianna Huffington hated him. They then started lying about him claiming that he was beholden to his former corporate employers. The truth is Tim Geithner has never been employed by Corporate Wall Street. He has spent most of his professional life as a public servant.

You know you try to give these guys a second chance, and then they go and blow it.

Stupid April asking abt Troy Davis case. They’re always trying to drag the Pres into these state issues.

    • September 19, 2011 at 12:33 pm

I know. This morning Ben Jealous tried to tell Roland Martin that the issue was a state and not a federal matter, and that the president couldn’t do anything about it. He still tried to say differently.

Just scratching my head. People need to read up on issues before the open their mouths.

      • September 19, 2011 at 10:30 pm

Why in the frick would Roland Martin think Nathan Deal would listen to PBO when Perry didn’t listen to him or GWB and executed a Mexican national last month knowing it would have a negative impact on U.S. Mexico relations? Stupid is as stupid does, I guess, but there’s no excuse for Martin not acknowledging the fact that the republicans are willing to do almost anything, no matter how evil or wrong it is, to make President Obama look bad.

President Obama “gave “Boehner 98% of everything he wanted, which turned out to be ocean front property in Oklahoma. And now Boehner is in a race against time, come November Boehner has to either accept what President Obama gives him or accept what the Super-Committee gives him, which President Obama has already said he will veto if revenues are not included. And this, Professional Lefters, is how it is done.
