‘the liberal disaffection myth’

Domenico Montanaro (MSNBC): President Obama’s base has abandoned him – so goes the conventional Beltway wisdom.

The problem with this accepted narrative: There’s no data to back this up, according to the most recent NBC News-Wall Street Journal poll.

The survey included these numbers:

– By an 81%-14% margin, Democrats approved of his job performance, essentially unchanged from his 82%-14% score in July.

– Among liberals, it was 74%-21% – exactly the same numbers from July.

– 92% of black respondents said they approved of Obama’s job with 5% disapproving. That’s actually up from July, when his approval with the group stood at 83%-13%.

– And among Hispanics, his approval stands at 57%-38%, up from his 45%-48% score in July…..

Thanks Dorothy 😉

Go ahead let them under estimate this President. They did in 2008. Spread the gloom and doom for him. And when he, Michelle, the kids, Joe and Jill stand on that stage in November 2012 celebrating their re-election, I will be the first one to tell them all to kiss it where the sun don’t shine.

Yes, PBO must have felt the way Michele Bachmann felt when she threw a press conference and (as the photo Chips brought us proved) nobody came!

Been trying to get on twitter to tweet this. Can’t right now, but SURELY WILL later! 🙂

Hello, All. I’m from North Carolina, Durham, just up the road from Raleigh, where our PBO was today, and wasn’t this just such a hoppin’ poppin’ piece of energetic pollitical base for ourselves and our fabulous leader. I’m thrilled. AND there’s work to do.

North Carolina – you did yourselves proud today!

    • September 14, 2011 at 5:50 pm

It did look real “hoppin and poppin’. I saw the local NBC website described the crowd as “raucous”. They were fired up and ready to go. And this is the same scene everywhere Obama appears—-big crowds, loud, loving supporters. As I noted earlier today it was really weird watching all that enthusiasm at N.C. State as MSNBC was loudly proclaiming Obama’s doom—-as they’ve done all day.
The good news is I drove home behind an Obama 2012 bumper sticker. I gave an enthusiastic thumbs up, hoping she got to appreciate my joyous approval in her rearview mirror. I keep seeing more and more 2012 stickers, the earliest I’ve ever seen so many in an election season. Still awaiting mine.

Randi Rhoads was on fire today. PBO is very popular and his base is NOT waiting to re-elect him. We are going to fight for this man no matter what the friggin MSM says. Our teabag congress, Corp owned SCOTUS and RW MSM are corrupt but we shall turn things around 2012.

They are corrupt to the core. it’s so disgusting, there’s no words to describe them,.

I noticed that many were angry with the narrative on MSNBC today

I was wondering earlier and posted something similar in the other tread.

Why people get so mad and disappointed with anything that goes on on MSNBC but not Fox News?
If you see a clip of Hannity or O’Reilly with their usual BS, do you get angry?, I sure don’t, they are so pathetic and predictable. We know what to expect from Fox and don’t react to it. Even if we don’t watch it, Media Matters or other sources get the information out there of what’s going on.
Somehow we don’t react the same way,.

Why is it different with MSNBC? Is it because people still think that it’s a left leaning network and not what it is , a RW network owned by the huge corporation Comcast?

When you have RW or emoprogs hosts or RW, emoprogs and libetarians as regular guests and analysts. What message goes out there? The President is weak, not a leader, he caves, he’s doomed, he’s finished, he lost his base, his approval ratings are the worst ever….etc.

It’s the same day after day,.

Why can’t we treat MSNBC the same way we treat FOX News? there’s no difference, the illusion that it’s left leaning is just for them to grab that market, people who would never watch Fox News.

Sometimes I watch Rev. Al, sometimes I don’t…..very rarely LO, like yesterday, I turned it off after 5 minutes when I saw that Adam Green was the guest. That’s all, not watching these hypocrites.
      And I boycott their advertisers.

When I use twitter to send something to MSNBC, to any of these hosts, CNN or whoever, it’s not that I watched it. I get my information on Twitter or here or some other sources like TPV, PCTC.
The hashtag #boycottmediasponsors should be on all messages.

Years and years of Republicans rules came to this, they own the media, they own information, they own the narrative.

        September 14, 2011 at 6:32 pm

Agreed, although Adam Green actually praised the PBO. He even smiled, don’t think I’ve seen THAT before. I’m sure he’ll be back to his old self today though. Along with Greenwald. With “friends” like these, who needs enemies? It’s like the Democratic Underground. Seems Cenk is their hero. Gag.

Thank you, thank you!! Many of us have been saying this for month. But recent events have finally pushed most Obots over the edge and now many are turning off MSNBC and all MSM television news. Fox, CNN, and MSNBC, along with the nightly news to a lesser degree, all have the exact same agenda. If folks don’t wanna watch the President be lied about and disrespected and ridiculed from the right on Fox, then why do still watch the President be lied about and disrespected and ridiculed from the left on MSNBC? It’s the SAME THING! If you don’t watch Oreilly because of the hatred, then why are you watching Lawrence? Because MSNBC is supposedly left leaning? Same with Rachael and Hannity. It’s the same bullcrap, different channel, that’s all.

Turn off tv news follks and get the real scoop from the blogs.

Totally co-sign UT! I don’t think the MSM understand that they no longer have complete monopoly in disseminating news. They seem intent on ignoring completely, or distorting, the President’s message. They don’t realize that we have sites, like TOD, that go around them to bring factual news about the President.

I’ve had it with these professional left whiners poisoning the wells with their lies. They’re doing their best to undermine the most popular sitting Democrat in office, which ends up helping the right wing.

They are truly politically tone deaf and narcissistic. Always complaining about the President capitulating and how he’s lost “the base.” Yet he continues to draw folks in everywhere he goes.

And they wonder why “liberal” is a dirty word… it’s because THEY make it a dirty word, and by “they,” I don’t mean the Teapugs… I mean the professional left themselves make “liberal” a dirty word.

      September 14, 2011 at 5:52 pm

We can turn that around too, just like PBO turned around “ObamaCares” We can wash the word/name “liberal” clean again! We can OWN IT just like we did Obamabots!

      • 29 jacquelineoboomer
        September 14, 2011 at 6:04 pm

Here’s how my generation learned what being a “liberal” is, from President Kennedy:

“If by a ‘Liberal’ they mean someone who looks ahead and not behind, someone who welcomes new ideas without rigid reactions, someone who cares about the welfare of the people — their health, their housing, their schools, their jobs, their civil rights, and their civil liberties — someone who believes we can break through the stalemate and suspicions that grip us in our policies abroad, if that is what they mean by a ‘Liberal,’ then I’m proud to say I’m a ‘Liberal.'”

        I totally agree, Imrj!

    • September 14, 2011 at 6:09 pm

It’s hard to even try to understand what their angst is. I read a tweet this morning that said someting to the effect that if Progressives wanted to win elections or run things, they will have to put their narcissism in check. They guy was basically saying that they were letting their egos get the better of them.

The problem is that these folks think they are such elites and will quickly try to trash anyone who takes them to task, because they are supposed to be oh, so smart. Yet, they have no qualms trashing one of the most brilliant minds of our time.

And for a group that follows a person like Greenwald or Hamsher like sheep, it is just mind bending.

I have determined that I will just go about dumping on them with facts and challenging at every turn and let them know that there are many of us out here that will work to the end for this president, without undermining him at every turn.

I don’t have any respect for many of these people that I once thought of in a positive ight.

They will do anything to change the dialogue…that is to say, they want us to believe folks are abandoning this awesome President and the end result “might” be that the rest of us just don’t get out and vote in 2012! well I say a very hearty: NOT!!!!!!! nope, it ain’t working around here! In my social circles/networks, we are die hards – yep OBAMA-BOTS! just like the folks here on TOD! TOD rocks, by the way, as does its administrator, Chipsticks – and I do know the difference because I blog all day over at that used to be liberal site HuffPost.. the trolls now have pretty much taken over over there and I fight them tooth and nail, daily! we cannot, must not, allow their rhetorical rubbish to be taken as true truths! It is up to each and every one of us, on a daily basis, to fight the smears, fight the ugliness, fight the racism, fight the Rethuglicans aka T-Klan aka HATERS! so glad I can come here for my daily fixes – thank you again, Chips!

What about that love fest that tweety just had for Bernie sanders! Saying that when it comes to the economy we should listen to him!

    Wait,… What?

    • 38 57andFemale
      September 14, 2011 at 7:47 pm

Bernie has a lot of good ideas. Really, guys. He does. He has the good of the American people at heart.

Did Tweety ask him how he intended to make his ideas the policy and law of the land?

All the good ideas in the world don’t mean squat if you can’t enact them.

  16. September 14, 2011 at 6:09 pm

Btw: the president told Charlie rangle to step down when he went through his crap last year!
I am under the suspicion that the CBC wants payback for what the president said about Charlie!
It’s personal, and they want him gone!

Good timing for him to start campaigning, the msm is back onto to the subtle meme of primarying the president!

I mean, the narrative is just downright anti Obama. Even in his last three years, when bush had a 20% approval rating, the media gave bush a pass!

Yeah Rangel probably feels he can now get back at the President. He disrespected the President by saying “he hasn’t been around enough” when the President said he should retire. The President does not cater to them like they thought he would. He will not con them like Clinton. They have never supported him and don’t consider him one of us. That includes Jackson too. They think the own AA and President Obama proved they don’t. He knows they carry no weight with the AA community.

      • 42 nathkatun7
        September 14, 2011 at 11:00 pm

I am disappointed that some old people, in my age group, refuse to allow new generations and new ideas to build on what they’ve achieved. Jesse Jackson, Charlie Rangel and Maxine Waters had their time. I think it’s time for the AA community to say thank you to these elders and then move on. Wiser elders, like the Great Ella Baker, who really should be a household name in the AA community, advised the young in the Sixties to create their own organization that was not dependent on the elders. It was from her advice that we saw the emergency of one of the most prolific Civil Rights Organization, the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC) that was very central to the civil rights struggles in the Sixties! I really think that President Obama connects with the young people of all races. It’s time for the young AA to assert themselves. It’s also time for us open minded older people to support this young President (compared to me, Rangel and Jesse Jackson) who is trying to bring progress and sanity to this country.
