Former President Jimmy Carter:

“This case illustrates the deep flaws in the application of the death penalty in this country. Executing Troy Davis without a real examination of potentially exonerating evidence risks taking the life of an innocent man and would be a grave miscarriage of justice. The citizens of Georgia should demand the highest standards of proof when our legal system condemns on our behalf a man or woman to die.”

Chips I thought you had wished us Nighty night and were off to la la land? Burning the midnight oil I see and for a good cause.

I hope justice can be found for Mr. Davis if there is overwhelming evidence that he didn’t commit the crime.

Just one of the bazillion reasons why we need to do away with the death penalty.

Totally concur. Wish we could make that happen during President Obama’s watch.

I totally agree! Why in the world, for a supposedly “civilized” country, do we continue to inflict the death penalty when there is a possibility of executing innocent people?

I will never be able to comprehend how any person …… oh, well, I just don’t have any words for a situation like this ……..

I’m finally watching Targeting bin Laden on The History Channel. Powerful stuff.

President Obama definitely has a spine of steel!

I know Oboomer, when I think of the talk show hosts and politicians who have said he need to grow a pair or have said he ‘s weak, I think to myself not one of these paper tigers would have risked their careers or their jobs on a call that was so gutsy.

I signed the letter and put it out on twitter. If there is even a shadow of a doubt the execution should not go forward.

  7. September 7, 2011 at 1:41 am

Shame. I hope justice will prevail.

Hey, Chips, a suggestion – there’s a setting that allows all your new blog posts to get posted automatically by your twitter account. That will help us to disseminate your blog posts and importantly let some of us who spend too much time on twitter know when a new post is up. BWD had that on her blog.

This horrifies me, I do not support the death penalty and absolutely this needs to be halted. Praying that justice and truth prevail.

Never missed our cable until tonight, sounds like the reviews are all 2 thumbs up for Targeting bin Laden. I’ve written off the MSM

After serving 22 YEARS in prison the man is to be executed? And yet the killer of ‘Oscar Grant’ only served 11 MONTHS in prison?! Words fail me…..but I will say that the US justice system is a bad joke.

WHERE IS FLOUTS? Have not seen her much in the last few weeks. She is usually out helping someone. Has she taken a break from her duties?

    • September 7, 2011 at 7:36 am

Flotus will be in the spotlight soon Keith. Not to worry.

I really hope something is done about this injustice of having this man executed without proper evidence.

On another note, President Obama is honoring Jimmie Johnson’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Championship at around 4:45 PM today.

Here is a white house video of the President with Jimmie Johnson a while back:

On Old Orange where there were regular diaries about Julian Assange/torture, not a single diary or FP article on this man’s behalf. I guess the only time Old Orange takes up a “cause” is if they can use it in some way to attack the President.

MUST, MUST MUST, READ!!! http://motherjones.com/politics/2011/09/audio-chris-christie-koch-brothers-seminar Christie attended Koch Kingdom Meeting in Colorado..was NOT on his schedule….flew back that same night….Koch’s LOVE them some Christie! Going to go after teachers, Medicare etc….because they “are right” the President shows no leadership, because he doesn’t tell Americans the truth….blah, blah, blah.Pass this around, and if you live in NJ…You have TWO JOBS to do! Work for this President, and kick this guys arse to the curb! Funny how people, me included, were cutting him some slack after the floods….bad move! It’s all a show. Let’s get to work!

Remember, this happened well before Hurricane Irene. The event was on June 26. Looks like Irene put this guy in his place FAST. He probably had no clue that in just a couple months he would be happy to be standing next to President Obama, begging for hurricane disaster relief aid. Rick Perry is now in a similar predicament. Somehow Karma always seems to go after those who are nasty towards our President.

When you say that it happened BEFORE Irene, don’t give this man a pass. He STILL FEELS THIS WAY! He would do exactly what he said he would do at the Koch Kingdom Retreat, in a heartbeat! To dismiss this as if he had come to his senses with a hurricane is foolish….I hope that’s not what you meant. I agree that Perry and Christie are in a similar spot now having to rely on the Feds they pro port to hate, but this doesn’t take away the fact that he is on the same page as the Koch Bros. AT ALL.

quickly read this desert. so what i wonder is – who are these people who were invited to this thing? How do the Koch brothers keep on the QT (I never really hear about them on MSM) (although admittedly I don’t watch a whole lot of it). At any rate interesting stuff and something to research. If possible. I’ll tweet the link to this article. Thanks for keeping us informed!

        September 7, 2011 at 9:06 am

I don’t know who was invited. Everything is VERY SECRET. Always. They manipulate the people they WANT in govt to do the dirty work for them and make them even richer than they already are…one of them ran for President on year and obviously didn’t make it, but now they do the next best thing and get others to do the dirty work FOR them, without the fuss of running for President. How convenient! These men and their endless amounts of cash are a true threat to our govt, our democracy and our way of life. Make no mistake! Ever hear the saying, “If you have nothing to hide, you hide nothing.”? This is NOT the case here. Be afraid. Be VERY afraid.

This has been going on for years. This is an example of what Zizi articulated in her commentary several days ago regarding the lack of structoral support for the Democratic Party. You may know, and if you don’t, should be shocked to hear that Supreme Court Justices Scalia and Thomas are on record for being in attendance at these events.

It is we the little people, against them the moneyed and powerful. We have to wrestle as many independants and Republicans away from them as we can, for the the majority of them are simply tools in their kit, being used and exploited for their votes at the ballot box.
Compound this with Grover Norquists organization, Alec, et al……to realize the source and weight of those that oppose our President, his agenda, his base. It is one of the reasons the frustarti are IMO so hard to take seriously…..where is the acknowledgement for the forces that stand in our President’s way. And every Tpublican that defies our President has the full backing of these powerful people behind them.
These are the puppetmasters of our Tpublican faction (and the powerful leaders of the religious right).

These are real, and they are formidable, they have resources in money, influence and position, and a stubborn attitude that they are entitled to it all. This is what will destroy America if we do not stop them.

Bless Jimmy Carter! Always the statesman, always looking out for those who can’t look out for themselves. He stands by his principles no matter what small-minded people say. The world would be a poorer place without him.
