I understand the President honoring NASCAR, but its fans are not his demographic.

    • September 7, 2011 at 5:42 pm

True maybe, but remember he’s the president of all America. 😉

      • September 7, 2011 at 7:34 pm

Yes, and some who are interested in NASCAR may tune in and see that the president is human—–much to their surprise. (Limbaugh lied to them!)
And, if I may make a not very presidenty comment, after observing the newly posted photos, is that President Obama the cutest, most adorablest person on the planet?

          Jimmy Johnson Tweets:

“What an honor today in DC. It was surreal standing on stage next to POTUS while he spoke about my family & what I’ve accomplished in racing.”

Most of them are not his base, but I’ve been watching NASCAR for the last 7 years and have even gone to a few racing at California Motor Speedway. And, I love Jimmy Johnson and Jeff Gordon.

Great job bjw2. I’m going to follow your lead and make sure I tweet and email articles to my local media and local newspaper. As they say, all politics is local and if we want to erode the corrupt power the GOP Media have, we have to empower our local media with relevant news because a lot of people get their news that way.

okay, so coach me here. I know TOD has something going with the local newspapers. Say it again, describe it to me,
I want the News & Observer [Raleigh, NC] to get resourced, and I’m prepared to be the one to get them the goods. RSVP, svp.

      • September 7, 2011 at 5:02 pm

WIW is putting together a data base of local press. She’s asking everyone to send it to her e-mail (whatisworking@gmail.com) or post it here. The goal is to do something like bjw2 did. Send these kinds of stories to the local press, or when you see good letter to the editor/story, post it here or give to WIW.

Basically, I think the idea is for us to bring the issues to and from our respective local presses to keep them engaged and ourselves aware of what’s going on in other parts of the country as it relates to our efforts to relect PBO.

I think it is an action plan of sorts.

        Hope, I am making sense.

Soon as you see a negative story regarding one of your GOP State reps, Congressman or Senator either email or twitter that info to your local media, such as local tv news stations, local papers and your democatic state office headquarters.

“WhatisWorking” is sponsoring this project on TOD. Believe she posted a reminder earlier today on a previous thread, with details.

In the meantime, you can email or tweet whatever source item you’d like to your local paper. Their contact information is usually on the newspaper’s website.

        Hope this helps. Good luck!

Okay, this is for people who love to hate the White House Press Corps:
Saying F*** these people isn’t good enough. They might enjoying (or be badly in need of being) effed. Seriously? We can’t come up with something more appealing? Something that might actually bother them if it happened? Like: Damn him to flying coach for the next year. Or: No more AF1 for you, buddy. Or: May your microphone be open when you spew your racist rants thinking you’re off air. Or: We’re putting out a Jay Carney Calendar, so there.

Jay is Clark ‘freakin’ Kent…now we need 11 more, starting with our SOSBOB(spine of steel, balls of brass) POTUS.

    • September 7, 2011 at 5:10 pm

One thing I’ve noticed is that they don’t like to be challenged. We have to push at them with the facts. Say for example, we pick one that asks the most asinine or misleading question, we bombard him/her with the facts.

Or when they carry GOP water, bringing those kinds of questions in the room, go after them. Like Tapper yesterday, bringing up the Faux Hoffa GOP outrage.

We have the means via twitter, e-mail, and those on facebook.

They can block twitter, but it is an open forum. We can tweet and retweet others comments and eventually even if the person blocks us, they will get the message from some of their followers.

      September 7, 2011 at 5:20 pm

Great interview. The President, once again, gave us some encouragement, moving forward. Here’s a snippet (most of us could quote some of this already, but it still helps to “hear” it again!):

[President] Obama: Well you know the truth of the matter is everyone has a selective memory about my presidential campaign. Everyone remembers the end where everybody had the posters, and everybody is saying “Yes We Can”, everybody is feeling good.

But I remember right around this time back in 2007, where everybody had written us off. And everybody had said he’s got no chance, he’s 30 points behind, he’s not going to win Iowa, he’s going to have to fold-up tent. The campaign was hard. There were times where we would think to ourselves this thing is just not going to work, it’s just not going to happen.

But somehow we made a way out of no way. And I think that is going to be our same approach when it comes to 2012. That’s my same approach when it comes to the country. We just keep on slotting. We keep on trying. We don’t give up. We stay focused on what our goals are: which is helping as many people as possible live out the American Dream.

I can’t yet tell where we’re going to be six months from now. My first job is to serve the people as the president of the United States. There will be a time for campaigning. But I know that whatever we do, there are a whole lot of folks out there who I think share our belief in a vision of America that is bold, and generous and optimistic. And is looking out for everybody, not just some.

And that spirit that we were able to capture in 2008…that spirit lives out there. Folks have taken some lumps because of this recession over the last two years, and I’ve got more gray hair than I did back then, but overall, I could not be more confident in the American people.

      • 52 utaustinliberal
        September 7, 2011 at 5:29 pm

This is another reason why I love, adore, admire, and respect this President and this is why I will not particpate in mindless handwringing and anxiety ridden ridiculousness because most people only remember the good times in the 08 campaign and not the hard times when everything looked bleak and still, then candidate Obama pulled through. He was victorious in 2008 and with our help he will be victorious once again.

I stopped watching Tweety/Chris Matthews when he did that embarrassing “President of the World” garbage about former President Clinton. Why didn’t this “President of the World” step up during the eight horrible years of the Bush administration, when the country was going to hell in a hand basket? Why step up right when a capable person arrives to clean up the mess and move this country in a new, better direction? Chris Matthews lost any shred of credibility after that. And his commercials on MSNBC, lamenting that the problem with this election is that the (racist) GOP candidates won’t declare this President to be just as American as them, drives me crazy – what other President ever needed a declaration that he’s as American as other Americans?

This is just terrific. President Obama’s Council on Jobs and Competitiveness is doing good work.

On Wednesday August 31st, the President’s Council on Jobs and Competitiveness announced fifty industry leaders that have committed to increasing the number of engineering internships available at their companies in 2012. These commitments announced on Wednesday will add approximately 6,300 additional opportunities for engineering students, and part of a greater Jobs Council effort to address America’s engineering shortage by graduating 10,000 more engineering students from U.S. colleges and universities each year.

U.S. Secretary of Energy Steven Chu said these commitments are important for the country, “For America to stay competitive in the global market, we must train and retain the world’s best engineers.”

  13. September 7, 2011 at 5:37 pm

    HI Everyone

A few folks have asked me to repeat what we are doing to expand local media resources. Here is the plan.

    1. there is now a page of links to local media websites. It is organized by state.
    2. Here is how you can help. the best thing would be to do a google search for all the local media in your state. Two brilinat folks yesterday (Sonia and snoop I think) sent me web pages for all of Texas and all of Maryland. If you can’t find that then just search for the local papers, TV, radio you know about in your area. Then post the info here.
    3. I will snatch it up and put it on the local media page, or as in the case of texas which is so darn big I will make an entire page for just one state.

Here is the page to date.

    Here is the Texas page

    4. Here is another way you can help
When you see a local story that is of interest to the group, post it here and include a note like “WIW add this to the media page”, I search this site for WIW so I hope to pick it up.

    5. It you are good at writing letters to the editor or see a good letter written by someone else, post that here, I will snag that also. I am really willing to send letters to the editor but don’t want to sit down and write them. I have a much easier time when I work of a letter that is already written and then change it a bit.

    This is just horrifying……

RICK PERRY: The EPA won’t know what hit them.

Speaking at a campaign stop in his home state yesterday, Texas Governor and Republican Presidential Candidate Rick Perry announced his intentions to make the Environmental Protection Agency unapologetically pro-pollution.

His remarks were reported by the Houston Chronicle:

“I’ll tell you one thing: The EPA officials we have an opportunity to put in place, they’re going to be pro-business, and there’s not going to be any apologies to anybody about it,” he said. “Those agencies won’t know what hit ‘em.”

    • 88 theo67
      September 7, 2011 at 6:04 pm

The GOP doesn’t understand that “pro-business” doesn’t have to mean “anti-human”. They make me sick. So, when they repeal “Obamacare”, they deregulate the insurance companies, and everyone gets sick because of the destruction of the EPA – how will those same businesses manage without any workers?

Perry is definitely worse than Bush.

Being on the east coast, all my posts are usually hours after everyone has moved on, but I always just leave my comments anyway, because I’m hoping someone else is huffing after me and will read it, or because I’ll explode if I don’t say something. Hey guys, you know how we’ve done a couple of fundraisers here, AND how we’ve often said we’d love you-know-who to meet or talk with the Big Man? Well look at this….

Who would you ask the President to call?

Posted by Rufus Gifford, National Finance Director on September 07, 2011

If you could ask President Obama to make a surprise, personal phone call to someone you know, who would you choose?

Today, you should start thinking about it. The campaign’s first-ever national Grassroots Fundraising Challenge starts now.

    Here’s how it works:
    1. Set a goal on your grassroots fundraising page.

    2. Raise the most money—or bring in the most grassroots donations—during the month of September.

    3. The top two grassroots fundraisers in each category will win an amazing prize:

A personal phone call from President Obama or Vice President Biden to whomever you choose—your mom, your dad, your spouse, even yourself.

Check out the challenge homepage for the national leaderboard, helpful daily tips, featured pages, details on the prizes, and more—and then get going.

In 23 days, we face our next major reporting deadline as a campaign, and we have to keep up our momentum. So we’re shooting for 20,000 donations to grassroots fundraising pages by September 30th to hit our campaign goal.

I’ll be checking back in with tips, opportunities to join exclusive conference calls, and other mini challenges to help boost your fundraising throughout the month.

Good luck, and thanks for all you’re doing for this campaign!

Can TODville do this do you think?

I think we could get this done…would you consider devoting a post to the idea tomorrow? We all could toss it around..you probably have at least 20,000 vistors a day….we could put up a temporary toll booth. Seriously, I hope you will consider it.

The thought of you talking to President Obama…. I can’t get the smile off my face for the thought of it.

Chipsticks you work fast Chica. Thanks for uploading the video, because the WH feed kinda acted wonky for me. President Obama could be a model for Colgate, Crest, Aquafresh, and any other toothpaste company! I like the picture of the President and the NASCAR guys all lined up on the podium.

Wow He has a gorgeous smile. It’s, like, perfect. I’m so glad he has the wonderful first lady, because if he was a bachelor, secret service would have an even harder time than they do now! 🙂

    She is strict!
