The promotion of greedy corporations and the greedy ultra-rich over the welfare of the American people, the fashioning of an anti-government narrative with the government, not these immoral forces of greed, as the enemy – a complete reversal of nature. Perhaps enough people will realize that without the federal government, nothing will stand between these rapacious forces and us, and realize that without the federal government, our children will be back at work in factories, without the benefit of health care and we the American people will carry the burden alone, carrying the rich on our backs, reduced to Old World serfdom.
Perhaps. But all that depends upon us standing up against chaos. Whether there be gods or no, we must play the part of gods, because unless you believe divine beings are going to fly to our rescue at our moment of greatest need, we are all that stands between chaos and the abyss. Sure, we can go down fighting the good fight, satisfied that we did our best, but wouldn’t you prefer to lift a toast to labor and live to piss it on the Tea Party’s grave? In 2012 we need to make sure that Nancy Pelosi will again be the Speaker of the House and that Democrats control the agenda.
Without that, the President will face more endless battles and will not be able to push his agenda for a sustainable economy, a healthier planet and a more stable, more democratic world. We all need to do our part, reconcile our differences and move in a united way. We need the leadership of our great President, but we have to be participants, not just observers.

As a former union contract worker from first hand experience, I know the importance of unions. Union jobs are not cushy, over paid, underworked positions…..that is what the Fat Cats at the Top would like to lead you to believe.
Unions simply give those without power a safety net of support and representation, they value the human aspects of the labor force. We must ensure that workers have a voice. Please support our unions.

My greatest puzzlement is this – why are they allowed to still collect their salary? They’re not working. They set their own appearance hours. They are blatantly standing in the way of progress. They publicly thumb their noses at those they promised to serve. Yet they regularly receive a salary that most of us could only dream about. Even when Republicans threaten to shut down government I doubt their salary would be affected. If you and I performed a fraction as dismally as they do at our jobs we would be fired. It makes no sense to me that the entire country is not crying out that these guys have passed their ‘best by’ date. If Americans return these incompetents to their positions in the next election, it will tell the world a lot about the sanity of the country IMO.

CNN and others are reporting that Texas Gov. and Republican presidential hopeful Rick Perry will miss Sen. Jim DeMint’s 2012 GOP forum today in order to address wildfires in Texas.
Perry is skipping his SECOND Republican debate or forum? Chicken! If he’s afraid of his fellow candidates, how scared would he be of President Barack Obama?
He always runs from debates. He wouldn’t even debate Bill White last year. He probably sees he has the momentum and doesn’t want to crash and burn in a debate and end it.
I believe Romney changed his plans to attend the DeMint forum – we could see a set-up here. Perry bails with this excuse, Romney can’t get out now.

The president has chosen to push for jobs — green jobs — building and maintaining roads and rails and bridges and sidewalks. All of those things enjoy enthusiastic bipartisan support among voters. They also have enormous consequences for how much fuel America burns and how much pollution we create.
Obama is leveraging the Department of Transportation for a very progressive agenda, but you wouldn’t know it from listening to progressives over the last few days. They are always in their issue-silos, unable to see a larger picture than their own narrow field of concern and quick to react with outrage.
The EPA isn’t the only cabinet agency that can effect environmental change for the environment. In many cases, it may not even be the most effective one for accomplishing progressive environmental goals. It is already a target of bipartisan opposition, and that is the simple calculus of the congress Obama has.
So stop saying he isn’t smart. Stop saying he has no strategy. Above all, stop the idiotic sports metaphors. All the calls to “go long” are like fans upset because Joe Montana has thrown ten short completions in a row instead of a bomb, and that he doesn’t play quarterback and tackle and wideout and placekick all at the same time.
I’ve learned not to get too excited about any proposal that depends on the President’s FY2012 Budget, since it was dead on arrival. It has lots of good ideas in it, but unless implemented, they go nowhere.
MSNBC is saying the President is “facing a tough crowd” in Detroit.
First of all, I pray for him to have a successful trip.
Secondly, I’m thinking the good people of Detroit will welcome him with open arms. It’s a prelude to his jobs speech on Thursday, so it should be well received, since his words and actions are honest and sincere. (I’m not minimizing the effect unemployment has had on Detroit and other cities; just hoping this is a magnificent event.)
The media is really pushing the notion that unions no longer support the President. I have no doubt some of the nonsense that has come out of Trumka’s mouth lately has something to do with it. This may not sound nice but as the wife a union member and mother of 3 union members I will say the crowd damn well better be supportive of the President. They either sat home in the last election or voted republican causing a lot of these problems themselves. They also are well aware of the fact that the President can not magically give them job. I am off my soap box now.

When there are disputes over trade agreements, GOP officials generally refuse to even consider measures with Democratic provisions providing federal assistance to displaced workers.
And if there’s a Republican White House in 2013, responsible for enforcing existing labor protections, we can expect conditions to deteriorate further.

Detroit is able to celebrate Labor Day today because the President authorized loans to the Big Three with stipulations. They came through and now are having record sales. I doubt that the president will face a “tough” crowd…..Detroit has been through many hard times, this last one nearly sank them, and I think they know who has their back! In addition….the Tigers beat the White Sox last night 18-2….that has to make for a good feeling in the city.

In 2012 we need to make sure that Nancy Pelosi will again be the Speaker of the House and that Democrats control the agenda.
Without that, the President will face more endless battles and will not be able to push his agenda for a sustainable economy, a healthier planet and a more stable, more democratic world. We all need to do our part, reconcile our differences and move in a united way. We need the leadership of our great President, but we have to be participants, not just observers.

As a former union contract worker from first hand experience, I know the importance of unions. Union jobs are not cushy, over paid, underworked positions…..that is what the Fat Cats at the Top would like to lead you to believe.
Unions simply give those without power a safety net of support and representation, they value the human aspects of the labor force. We must ensure that workers have a voice. Please support our unions.

My greatest puzzlement is this – why are they allowed to still collect their salary? They’re not working. They set their own appearance hours. They are blatantly standing in the way of progress. They publicly thumb their noses at those they promised to serve. Yet they regularly receive a salary that most of us could only dream about. Even when Republicans threaten to shut down government I doubt their salary would be affected. If you and I performed a fraction as dismally as they do at our jobs we would be fired. It makes no sense to me that the entire country is not crying out that these guys have passed their ‘best by’ date. If Americans return these incompetents to their positions in the next election, it will tell the world a lot about the sanity of the country IMO.

CNN and others are reporting that Texas Gov. and Republican presidential hopeful Rick Perry will miss Sen. Jim DeMint’s 2012 GOP forum today in order to address wildfires in Texas.
Perry is skipping his SECOND Republican debate or forum? Chicken! If he’s afraid of his fellow candidates, how scared would he be of President Barack Obama?
He always runs from debates. He wouldn’t even debate Bill White last year. He probably sees he has the momentum and doesn’t want to crash and burn in a debate and end it.
I believe Romney changed his plans to attend the DeMint forum – we could see a set-up here. Perry bails with this excuse, Romney can’t get out now.

Obama is leveraging the Department of Transportation for a very progressive agenda, but you wouldn’t know it from listening to progressives over the last few days. First of all, I pray for him to have a successful trip.

Hostility towards workers isn’t new, especially from the right, but given the recent shift in the political winds, it’s getting more intense. When congressional Republicans talk about eliminating “regulations” as a central facet of their economic policy, they’re often talking about scrapping safeguards intended to protect workers. When Republican governors target collective bargaining rights, they’re not even being subtle about attacking unions, usually school teachers. When there are disputes over trade agreements, GOP officials generally refuse to even consider measures with Democratic provisions providing federal assistance to displaced workers.
And if there’s a Republican White House in 2013, responsible for enforcing existing labor protections, we can expect conditions to deteriorate further.

Detroit is able to celebrate Labor Day today because the President authorized loans to the Big Three with stipulations. They came through and now are having record sales. I doubt that the president will face a “tough” crowd…..Detroit has been through many hard times, this last one nearly sank them, and I think they know who has their back! In addition….the Tigers beat the White Sox last night 18-2….that has to make for a good feeling in the city.

One of the jackals said to jay carney, that things are getting worse there and he basically said his sources are stellar!

Jovie these are the kinds of questions we need to ask the MSM when they breathlessly cite another one of their slanted polls about the President. Don’t simply repeat what they said – hold them accountable and demand that whenever they cite a presidential poll, they need to cite the corresponding polls for the GOP “leaders” and candidates.

WOW!!! Just watched PBO’s Labor Day speech in Detroit. PBO is definitely FIRED UP!!!!! The crowd was FIRED UP!!!!! I am FIRED UP and READY TO GO!!! Made me happy to see him there rested and in his element. Loved it when the crowd kept shouting “FOUR MORE YEARS” before and during his speech. He simply blows away anyone else in the field even before he begins his campaign. All of the MSM, firebagger and teabagger rhetoric just vaporizes in his presence and they cannot shield his brilliant light from the American people.
