Which means the current GOP candidates are so boring (even with the entry of Yosemite Sam) that they have to focus on Lady Blah Blah.

CNN is promoting the half term governor more than FOX. Maybe they need material, but they are playing up “will she or won’t she” as though it is important.

The tea-jerks are already attempting to take away the headlines in Detroit.
They are mad at Hoffa for what he said and ate telling the president to condemn him and all unions!
    Over the top much?
Of course, CNN takes the side of the tea-wackos!
    Anyways…

They have a nerve. The so-called “tea party” have a “leader” who drew crosshairs over names and districts of Democratic elected officials, one of whom was shot in the head and is still recovering. This same gang of idiots are now fundraising in that Congresswoman’s district using guns as lure for more crazies. When they apologize for the actual violence and harm that they have done and are doing in this world, then maybe they can try the outrage again. Fake outrage about a union leader who is rightfully angry and ready to fight back, FIGURATIVELY, to protect his country, his job and his rights against a group of people/animals who are systematically tearing down the fabric of democracy in this country.

      They have no shame.

        September 5, 2011 at 6:34 pm

No shame what so ever. The AZ group that had the lack of deceny to raffle a Glock, in response to criticism and public outrage has now doubled down and is raffling 2 hand guns. Sorry, they are psycho’s IMO.

They have no ground to stand on in their outcries over Hoffa…..in this case I would ridicule them for their whining, and their cowardice, or better yet ignore them. They aren’t going to fluff my feathers, not today.

      • September 5, 2011 at 6:46 pm

And guess what story leads the network news tonight—-at least ABC which I had on—–“President Obama’s Labor Day appearance in Detroit upstaged by angry rhetoric of union head”. I knew it—-always focus on the negative. I see it’s Tapper who’s anchoring, so—-not surprising. I regret Hoffa’s words at an Obama appearance. And I know it’s not like the right hasn’t used that kind of language repeatedly. But I want our side to be the one who doesn’t. The smarter, saner side. In keeping with the theme they then aired Perry telling the S.C. audience that his gun control policy was “use both hands”. Hahahaha——so funny. The conservative right freaks are obsessed with guns.

          September 5, 2011 at 6:48 pm

President Obama’s appearance was not upstaged by ANYTHING or anyone. This is beyond just focusing on the negative. Jake Tapper is a LIAR.

            • September 5, 2011 at 6:58 pm

I will, and they aired none of Obama’s words, only those of Hoffa. No crowd shots. That’s how they defined today’s event for their viewers.

              • September 5, 2011 at 7:38 pm

Now my husband said they did show a couple seconds of Obama—–I was so mad when I heard the introduction I was busy typing here and missed it. But the whole thrust of the segment centered on Hoffa. The reason this makes me mad is that Obama has always been so classy in all his appearances, setting a great example for everyone, and this today was just so unnecessary. And of course it was Hoffa not Obama who uttered those words but they’re bending over backwards to link Obama to the harsh rhetoric.

we have got to challenge tapper and ABC news now and throughout the night because you know the media is setting this up to be the lead story.

people please take some time and challenge the media about this newly manufactured crisis

What a load of hypocrisy. Fact is it upstaged nothing. If they take offense at a movement that is willing to fight for their voices to be heard and their rights to be addressed then they might as well roll over now. Weak. Go play with the Tea Partiers….and when they are there listen to the language of hate and the violent rhetoric and then get back to us. The narrative is false and frankly I’m not paying attention to their whining.

Hoffa was talking tough. But damn it…it made them sit up and listen. And the rhetoric was not laced with gun references, it don’t put a target on any bodies head…which I recall was defended vigorously as acceptable and common use rhetorical imagery. When it comes from the right it gets a pass as no big f’n deal.

    • September 5, 2011 at 6:19 pm

It was inartful and I did cringe a bit but not ten words earlier he is talking about getting out to vote, and the fact that Fox edits that part out tells you everything you need to know. Fox didn’t even outsource it to Breitbart this time, hacked it completely in house.

When Palin and Bachmann use rhetoric that encourages violence the tea party stand behind them and back them up. Hoffa was not doing what they did. His words were edited and twisted and I will look for him on twitter and tell him I back him up. I am tired of being on the defense. The guy gave a good speech in support of the President and I will not ask him to tone it down. The tea baggers have carried guns to places where the President spoke. How about the Palin crowd shouting “kill him”? I’m sick of kowtowing to THEIR rights. The media is pulling a bullshit move and I’m pissed off.

      • 25 sjterrid
        September 5, 2011 at 9:42 pm

I have to admit when I heard Hoffa say we should take them out, I didn’t like it either. Yes he was talking about getting out the vote, but he said this at an event before President Obama was going to speak at the same event. It’s not surprising that the media and the T-GOP would try to use it. We know that a republican can get a pass by the media, but never someone that supports the democratic party.
President can say that Hoffa was wrong to use those words, but they can’t blame this on all members of the unions and he still stands with them.

  6. September 5, 2011 at 6:11 pm

    Greetings everyone

I just returned from a Labor Day pancake breakfast where there were many Democratic candidates and elected officials. It was wonderful to see Lynn Woolsey and Mike Thompson who are the Congressional Representatives in our area and both Dems. Almost every speaker mentioned the need to re-elect the President, how this is a moment we can take back the conversation, and rebuild the country. They also had a few choice words for the Tea Party. I was encouraged. I know things seem dark right now, but there were many older folks who were there who remembered when folks were beaten or shot at for standing up to union bosses. The war horses are lining up.

If there are any labor events in your area, I encourage you to join them, they are good folks, solid Democrats and allies in 2012.

Does anyone have a labor day story they want to share? (sorry if this has been done in previous threads, I have not read over them)

Remember the things we do on the ground are every bit as important as the things we do on the Web. We want to hear about it.

      September 5, 2011 at 6:13 pm

This is so good to hear that Democratic candidates and elected officials are supporting the President and actually working to make things better. With Maxine Waters all over the airwaves, and the media focus on nonsense, I was wondering where those Democratic voices were. From your account, it seem that they’re out there, just not getting any airtime.

Not only does PBO stands with UNIONS…He backs it up with Legislation he passed during his first term:-)

And I want everybody here to know, as long as I’m in the White House I’m going to stand up for collective bargaining.

That’s why we’ve reversed harmful decisions that were designed to undermine those rights. That’s why we passed the Fair Pay Act to stop pay discrimination. That’s why we appointed people who are actually fulfilling their responsibilities to make sure that the offices and factories and mines workers that clock in each day, that they’re actually safe on the job.

And we’re going to keep at it. Because having a voice on the job and a chance to organize and a chance to negotiate for a fair day’s pay after a hard day’s work, that is the right of every man and woman in America — not just the CEO in the corner office, but also the janitor who cleans that office after the CEO goes home. Everybody has got the same right.

What’s different about the next campaign?

Well about 3 years ago…PBO promised things he will change…This time around, He will be able to discuss everything he’s accomplished and promises kept and will ask the american people to give him more time to finish the job…even though some were trying to derail his vision in 2010.
In 2004 they gave us Rev wright…that didn’t fly..in 2010 was the birther…BP…nothing stuck…All they have left is the economy…Well Thursday night he will put the Repubs/Teaparty and the American people on notice once again…..and if they keep saying NO, PBO knows how to Politik…and will be on campaign mode taking it to the people, and if there’s any indication of what happened today in Detroit….People better get ready…………… Fired Up Ready To go!!!!!!!!!!

the last few months reminded me of what we went through with this President and the Obama-doubters around this time in the final year of the campaign.

    now as then:
    – the media was running a theme that Candidate Obama was weak and would never win the white working class vote;
    – the rightwing haters were ridding high on racially-charged and hatefilled rhetoric;
    – the Democratic-doubters were getting frantic with panic telling PBO what her should do to fight back; and
    – the Democratic/republican/independent Obama-envy-filled people were sneering thinking that they had BO on the ropes and that they were better than him.

    remember that period people???

well, well, we all know how that chapter ended!!!!

through it all Candidate Obama did not get cruel or nasty to his opponents. instead he won his arguments through solid reasoning, a smile to kill-for and with so much dignity and class that he earned a lot of respect and trust from many ordinary people at home and abroad.

I will speak for my self and say that I completely trust President Obama’s judgment, intellect and empathy. I do this based on the road he has personally travelled, the professinal and personal choices he has made (I am talikng about choices that include but are not restricted to Mrs Michelle Obama and close friends), and how he has behaved when the cameras were not following him from his time as a young man and he was working in obscruity among the poor and less privilledged voiceless.

How many of us are still held in deep respect and love by fellow classmates, old friends, teachers/instructors and even prior boses????

Hey all. Chips you are the greatest! Your coverage of the Pres’ Detroit visit is just magnificent.

Thanks to everyone who suggested questions for my loved one who traveled to Detroit for the event. It was my niece who’s a tv anchor at a Michigan station. Unfortunately, the Pres did not do any one-on-one interviews with media. But she said it was just awesome and Pres O is the coolest president ever. But we know that.

President Obama was powerful as usual. I saw a photo of Herman Cain watching the speech in SC. He must have been thinking “damn.”

I love that picture of the man holding the President’s hand in both of his. That to me is a classic, and says so much. That man is around my age, I imagine, and he is holding in his two hands the result of MLK’s marching, the result of Rosa Parks’ sitting, the result of Clara Luper’s taking her students to Katz drugstore, the result of the freedom marchers going to Mississippi, the result of those little girls in Little Rock, the result of Medgar Evars going to Old Miss……so much, he held in his two hands today. I bet he never in his long life thought that would happen to him. I am so thrilled for that man…..!!! His strong hands and the look in his eyes say it all.
