‘the senate refuses to consider obama nominees’

Barney Frank (in the Washington Post): …. The president has nominated Richard Cordray, an able, experienced and thoughtful former state attorney general who has a record of achievement in protecting individuals against financial abuse, to head the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. And the Republican minority in the Senate has announced that it intends to deny any consideration of the individual …. they will do that by blatantly distorting the Constitution…..

Cordray is just the latest capable, dedicated public servant to fall victim to a Republican mugging …. his record as attorney general of Ohio puts him in a small group of people able to act effectively to deal with the mortgage crisis. No one has raised any questions about his intelligence, integrity or dedication.

Yet his nomination will not even be fairly considered by the full Senate …. They will not confirm anyone until the Senate majority reverses itself to once again put bank regulators in a position to overrule virtually all of the policies that would be set by the consumer agency. The president is being told that the price of having a nominee confirmed is reversing himself on a major policy initiative that has already been enacted.

…. Cordray’s hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, and we’re going to see an extraordinarily qualified administrator of an important consumer protection agency be trashed by the Senate Republican minority because their primary goal is to ensure that financial institutions are not troubled by what they may see as an excessive concern for consumer fairness.

They are now refusing to confirm any recess appointment …. It is the legislative equivalent to an arsonist having set a fire and objecting to a building’s inhabitants using the fire exit.

We have some crooks in Congress. Just exasperating. Still trying to take this country to a third world status. And third world countries are seeking a democracy for the people.

On a related note, just saw that rejected (by Repugs) federal appeals court nominee Goodwin Liu was sworn in by Gov. Brown on the California Supreme Court.

This article should be mass mailed so the entire country can see it. I am so saddened by this kind of underhanded politics. People in this country who have money are so used to ruling the world that they will do anything to maintain their position. People who have little ( black and white) are still treated as second class citizens with no way to escape. It is such a vicious cycle. Everything seems to work against them. Getting the right people in government is so important . It is unbelievable that we have to deal with all of the little games. Our President is being disrespected at every turn. I sure hope the people are not blinded by this fact and that they will continue to rally behind him. The Democrats are not perfect but they are a lot better than this. I hope Obama and his allies figure out a way to stay strong, honorable and focused on ways to get around all the shenanigans. God bless the Obama Administration and give them special graces and continuing strength.

Let’s not forget that this disrespect is just not happening to the President, but it is happening to us.

This is the B.S. this President has had to deal with since he has been in office, first McConnell and those rats in the Senate filibusting everything, now the House, not doing a dam thing to help the people hurting. It is all about bringing down this President, and if everyday Americans gets hurt , if they suffer because the T-Republicans are playing politics, well so be it. These T-Republicans don’t care about the middle class or the poor. It’s all about looking after the rich.

Where is Harry Reid? How come the R’s are controlling his agenda and determining what the Senate will or will not consider?
The more obstructionist these guys get, the more the contrast with our hard-working, decent president will become clearer. We have to get this message out and contribute to the DCCC or the DSCC if they’ll take it on. We have to call our senators and give them hell for allowing this to happen. As thoughtless and sheeplike as Americans can sometimes be, most people have a basic sense of fairness and if they know what’s going on, they will not like it or, hopefully, reward it at the polling booth.

I have been asking where is Harry Reid for a long time. Instead of allowing the Repugs to keep the Senate open to prevent POTUS from getting any of his nominees in place, Reid should keep the whole damn Senate in session and not allow any one to leave until they vote on every nominee. The President has had to work with one hand tied behind his back while Reid is making “gentleman’s agreements” with McConnell. After POTUS and FLOTUS campaigned their butts off to get him reelected, this is how he repays POTUS. As for any suggestion of contributing money to the DCCC or DSCC, f***k them! It is the dems in Congress both House and Senate who have been helping the repugs by publicly attacking POTUS, and not speaking up about the repugs not “considering” the nominees. Barney Frank is talking a good game today, tomorrow he will be blaming POTUs for this. Every time I see him, he is attacking the President.

Harry Reid can’t do a thing without sixty votes! This not about Harry Reid’s failure! This is all about a coordinated plan by Republicans to make it difficult for President Obama to govern. I am sorry, but simply keeping the Senate in secession would not accomplish anything.

This is one more reason why we must and cannot let the GOP win in 2012. If they do, they will destroy the fabric of America. With the leadership of ALEC and the Koch Brothers they will destroy the economy again, they will destroy education, they will destroy healthcare, they will destroy positive gains in civil rights and civil liberties, they will destroy social programs, they will destroy the supreme court once again, they will destroy the positive regulations made by this administration, they will destroy the middle and working class, they will destroy the rights of students, women, and minorities of all stripes. It is as clear as day.

  8. September 2, 2011 at 9:33 am

Harry Reid is to blame. Period. He should have canceled the August recess. If the GOP wants to play games to keep Congress in session to block recess nominees than he should have forced them to stay for real until every held up nominee was voted on.

GOP will get away with this obstruction because this is the in-the-weeds stuff that the vast majority of the population will never hear about, or not care enough about if they do hear it mentioned. There is no amount of pressure that could be put on the GOP here – save taking away their recesses but Harry Reid will never do that.

Question: Would it matter what Harry does with the Senate if the GOP keeps someone banging Boehner’s oversized gavel in the House? POTUS still couldn’t make a recess appointment could he? With just the Senate? And if the GOP all go on recess, MAKE THE DEMS STAY TO VOTE ON THE APPOINTMENTS.

Anyone know the logistical rules on this?

If he can….. then let’s start the TWITTER WAR on Reid and ALL THE DEMS IN CONGRESS, both HOUSE & SENATE – Reid has an account, most of them do – let’s GO.

Let’s demand they stand up for the POTUS, and call them on this. Then next time there is a recess, they either VOTE on ALL APPOINTMENTS or close both houses.

I disagree totally! The Republicans are determined to say no to everything. It’s really pointless to keep the Senate in secession. Please people let’s not start eating our own! The entire blame is on the Republicans. PERIOD.

I am giving to the DCCC in hopes of getting Nancy Pelosi back as speaker. I may not like a lot of those jerks, but that is the price to have NP back. She is a tiger and a true fighter for the people. She is also a supreme politician that can get things done, e.g, the Affordable Health Care Act. Does no good to get PBO elected if he has to continue with the current congress. Politics makes strange bedfellows is so true.

The people have to wake up and act with a loud voice not Obama. before you diss me let me say I’m not saying to stop blogging just that our leader need to make some noise and call out the media and the bought democratic. i see the teaparty alway having something going on in washington. so forget where are the jobs but where are the democratic. McConnell and those rats in the Senate filibusting everything, Where are the democratic? McConnell statement one term president, Where are the democratic? Until we wake up and see who it is we need to be outrage about not really the republican, they are just been themself it is the democrat that acting like the republican and as long as we just keep talking about nasty the republican are and not the other party Obama will be disrepected. No one seem outrage except the teaparty cause we are waiting on Obama to be outrage for us. Where are the Outrage in the democrat party? They are taking our freedom all over this country, women right, civil right, union right, voting right, right to have a job in the USA, fair wage right, damn Obama can’t be the only loud voice in the party. Where are the democratic? I’ll tell you they are scare as hell that Obama will make big business so mad that they won’t get their money anymore. You are absolutely right…I reminded a client today that President Johnson signed the Civil Rights Act Bill, but it was the AMERICAN PEOPLE who made it happen. President Johnson nor Congress marched, protest or boycott, the AMERICAN PEOPLE did!

I am posting this in every fucking thread so people will STFU about it – forgive me for the repetition:

****PRINCESS POTTY MOUTH ALERT**** (this is not directed at YOU personally, but at the thought process you have somehow picked up and allowed to hinder your independent, rational thought.)

I hear this so fucking much, yet NO ONE says EXACTLY WHAT TO SAY, or HOW do you do that when your sworn enemies OWN THE FUCKING MEDIA?

Explain to me, how exactly, that happens?

How is he NOT getting “OUT THERE”? What does that mean? He is OUT THERE every fucking day, and Chips has VIDEO HERE to PROVE IT. Granted, it’s not carried on the TV, and WHY DO YOU SUPPOSE THAT IS? Shouldn’t the PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES BE CONSIDERED NEWS???

Maybe he should just take Jim Carney’s place and give a press conference every day? Jim does that now pretty much, and they don’t carry him. Yet we even have video of that too.

DEATH PANELS? Of COURSE they responded – but if the Media won’t air it, THEN WTF DO YOU DO? Call them and yell at them? Think that will work? Death Panels was absurd on it’s FACE – Tell me, even if you were in front of a camera, WHAT DO YOU SAY EXACTLY? POTUS said, “Your care will be between you and your Doctor, not you and your insurance company.” AND “There will be money now for end of life counseling with the family, before you’re in hospice.” WHAT ELSE WOULD YOU SAY?

I see the POTUS getting OUT THERE, EVERY FUCKING DAY, thanks to whitehouse.gov, and sometimes C-SPAN. The people I DON’T SEE is the rest of the DEMS IN CONGRESS. They’re probably out there too, but there is a MEDIA BLACKOUT on them, because the GOP OWNS THE FUCKING MEDIA, and there are NO LAWS OR REGULATIONS anymore (thanks to Reagan) than make it MANDATORY for BOTH SIDES TO HAVE EQUAL TIME.

Please explain IN DETAIL, HOW the POTUS and the DEMS – demand airtime from the GOPMEDIA.

Guuuurl, you ain’t said nother but a word…the truth. Everytime someone open their mouths and this nonsense comes out, I ask the same question, “please explain IN DETAIL, HOW the POTUS and the DEMS – demand airtime from the GOPMEDIA”? Guess what, I never get an answer!!!!
