I highly recommend that everyone checkout the segment that Melissa Harris-Perry did last night while guest hosting on The Rachel Maddow Show. Melissa demolished the so called problem that President Obama has with his base and she spent a good amount of time calling out the CBC. She said what we have all been saying for quite some time. It needed to be said and coming from Melissa it was a breath of fresh air.

With the 10th anniversary of 9/11 rapidly approaching, Lawrence O’Donnell did a preemptive re-write last night and eviscerated Rudy Giuliani in fine fashion. It was Lawrence at his best.

A noun, a verb and 9/11: Lawrence O’Donnell rewrites Rudy Giuliani

I am so glad that Lawrence pointed this out. I was not aware of this. Rudy should be ashamed of himself. This is another example of a Republican with no conscience.

I saw that. It was absolutely scathing. Lawrence put it down.

I grew up in NYC and I remember the first bombing at the WTC. I didn’t realize until after 9/11 that Giuliani had put the command center back in the World Trade against the best advice. I just know that lots of New Yorkers, including myself, abhor this man, and that goes back before 9/11. He’s left a mess everywhere he’s gone — both in his personal and public lives. His children wouldn’t even vouch for him. Firefighters and police officers were ready to pull down his candidacy in 2008 if it had gone anywhere. He is hated by public servants for how he handled 9/11 and the aftermath. They were ready to burst that “America’s Mayor” mythical bubble with the quickness.

He’s a typical selfish, incompetent, greedy, grifting republican with an almost sadistic mean streak. Add a delusional mindset that believes his own hype, and you have a very sick man.

This tweet is change I can believe in:

A Libyan rebel soldier asked me if NYC was safe. When I looked puzzled, he added: “Irene,” and asked how he could help.”

This is what happens when you are are invited to help in a moment of need and you proceed with caution, respect and no bravado. You end up being authentically greeted as liberators.

This is in response to Proud of Obama’s comment and question on the “Wednesday” Thread.

Proud’s comment & question: Hey, TOD family. So I watched Morning Joke so I could harass them with tweets and there was a lot of conversation about how bad Rick Perry is. Donny Deutsch was on and he said he feels in his gut that something ugly and personal is going to come out about Perry. Joke was all over Perry’s letter to Hillary praising her health care efforts and about Perry having been a democrat. Sounded like the know this idiot cannot win in a general so they are trying to derail him now for Romney. We need to keep our sights turned on the plastic man Romney who is just as horrible as Perry. He just doesn’t have the accent.

    What do you guys think?

Hey Proud I’m 100% with you. Rick Perry can do bad on his own, but there seems to be a concerted effort especially on Morning Joe to demolish him. I watch Morning Joe because that show sets up the talking points the repubs use all day. That show tells one a lot about the other side. It’s clear that even though they don’t particularly like Romney – they like Christie, Jeb Bush, and heck even Paul Ryan – they’re swallowing their disgust that he’s a Mormon, he’s charismatically anemic and doing all they can to make sure he ends up the eventual nominee. They way they ragged on Perry; espcially Joe was funny and yet disturbing. Joe lambasted him for not being a true conservative just a southern democrat who fled to the other side of the aisle for poltical reasons. He also lambasted Perry for writing a letter in 1993 that praised Hillary Clinton and her healthcare bill. When Donny Deustch (another rich white liberal with a blame President Obama complex because he’s took weak, he lacks a backbone, yadi yada yah) said that he feels something ugly, naughty, and personal is going to come out about Perry, I was like dude cool it; you’re sounding really sinister.

We really have to keep our eyes on Romney because the way he gets promoted on all these news channels is disturbing. They way they try to make Romney sound credible, sane, reasonable, a true visionary leader, someone who understands business and the economy like the back of his hand, someone who understands foreign policy is ridiuculous to people like us who know the real Romney and his so called business background, but to the average voter he sounds like the best thing since sliced bread. They showed a clip of Romney’s speech at the VFW and it reminded me of the Deepak Chopra article Chipsticks put up; where Deepak said that one of the differences between President Obama and the other side was that the other side preached fear, fear, and more fear. In his speech, Romney talked ad nauseam about himself. It was all Me, Me, Me. Then he went on to tell the Veterans that they should be very afraid of how America looks under President Obama. How on the foreign front we’re politically and militarily weak. That China, Russia, Japan, Germany and other countries are steadily rising up against us and we’re weak because all President Obama does is embark on apology tour after apology tour. He then said that even the Taliban, Al Quaeda, and Jihadists aren’t scared of America and that we’re forever in danger from the above mentioned countries and from terrorists. That we’re sitting ducks. Really??!!! Seriously?!!! The Morning Joe crew just nodded their head as if to say yep he’s 100% right. He’d make a better Commander-In-Chief and we’d be safer under him. They didn’t point out that under the Obama Administration, the above mentioned terrorist factions are more fractured and scattered than ever. That under the Obama Administration, we’ve eliminated more terrorist members and terrorist cells. That under the Obama Administration, OBL was eliminated, another terrorist who was on the FBI’s Most Wanted list was killed in Somalia, that the number two al Quaeda leader was killed in Pakistan. Nooooo they all peddled the meme that Romney was what we needed.

So yeah Proud, I totally understand what you mean when you say we have to keep our eyes on Romney and most especially on the GOP run media because they way they peddle him, you’d think he was Superman or something.

What a great summary! I agree with all you have said. They all scare me. We know whoever wins the primary will be hailed as the perfect leader. And continue the fear push. Sometimes it is all so hard for me to get my head around because I can’t believe that they believe what they are saying. That is why they all scare me.

Have a good day at school!

    • August 31, 2011 at 10:40 am

The Perry stuff that may be exposed that they were referring to was probably the accusations of extra-curricular sexcapades and frolicking with strippers by someone in Tx. Didn’t this guy take out a full page ad asking for participants to come forward? Maybe the MJ crew heard about the strong response to that ad.

      • August 31, 2011 at 11:14 am

Thanks, Ut. I too believe they will swallow that Romney is a mormon if they think he can squeak into the WH. Truth is Romney is just as dangerous to this country. It just scrambles my brain to hear Romney blast the President when he has no foreign policy at all. And no chairing the Olympics committee doesn’t count. As you said, under Pres Obama, we’ve had success after success.

But the Rs will do what they do and lie and whitewash to try to get Romney over. We have to be proactive and keep exposing this super rich fake who hates America.

There’s a reason he’s not a career politician. He couldn’t get elected after his stint as MA gov was such a disaster. Think I’ll tweet that.

I personally don’t share a concern about Howdy Doody Romney. He writes his own epitaphs with every stalking step he takes after PBO. The man has so many flip flops, he could supply the Jersey Shore in the heat of summer. We know rethugs corner the market on pr, and it’s not because they are smarter. It’s because they are monied, corporations are their best friends, so-called conservatives are stupidly against the good of the country as a whole. All we need is for OFA and DNC to capitalize on this joker’s gaffes in a paralleling reveal, and I see a victory for us in 2012.

Melissa Harris-Perry was on a roll last night. In addition to calling out the CBC, she went after Rick Perry and his obsession with abortion. He has signed a very controversial law requiring sonograms for any women getting an abortion in Texas. Melissa calls it the “I want to get all up into your uterus law”. He is supposedly against big government but nonetheless, he wants to have control of your uterus in Texas. This is a must see segment pulling back the curtain on Tricky Rick. And I just loved Melissa’s indignation as she documented the atrocities.

With regard to Melissa Harris-Perry’s “get up your uterus” drive around the country…..this has made me angry since it started. Oklahoma, Texas, Kansas, South Dakote, and more have all made these punitive laws to repress women. A young friend heard Khaleed Hosseini, author of The Kite Runner speak yesterday. In his speech he said “No country that represses its women can be successful.” He was referring to Afghanistan, but that is the path many of our states are taking: Texasstan, Oklahomastan, Kansasstan…..this has got to be fought and changed. I simply do NOT understand women legislators and governors who are taking us backward in this arena. I KNOW the difference between pre Roe v Wade and post Roe v. Wade. These women need to study what happened before Roe v. Wade was the law. I know what happened to young women when I was in high school. Horrendous butchery. My son once said no man should be able to make laws concerning abortion, and I agreed with him, but then I saw what medieval thinking women are agreeing toand I am appalled! Bravo Melissa. Someone needs to say these things out loud in a public forum.

  7. August 31, 2011 at 10:45 am

This one was just unbelievable to me—–an example of how deluded with hate you have to be to believe the rumor that was going around conservative websites yesterday, aided by our “friend” Rush: that the Obama Midwest bus tour was a big fake, that they flew the bus in a plane! from stop to stop—–many of which were just 20 miles down the road. You have to read this just for the Carney response to this Big Story:

    • 27 Sue in Minnesota
      August 31, 2011 at 11:14 am

I suspect that is because Sarah Palin conducted a fake bus tour to promote her 1st book. She was called out for traveling not on the bus between stops, but by private jet. The right are master projectionists……and like children, never responsible for their actions, looking for excuses outside of themselves. That taunting, ‘I know you are but what am I’, mentality.

I think this is going to have to be the mode of operation from now on. Expose, expose, expose.

The Republican Party obstruction must be exposed by the White House because the MSM is not going to do it without being forced. A perfect example is the FAA re-authorization. Speaker Boehner had shut everything down and gone on recess without handling the re-authorization bill. President Obama and the Democrats made a stink about it and eventually the optics just didn’t look good for the Republicans. They were going on a month long recess and leaving workers stranded. Fast forward, they make arrangements to extend the FAA re-authorization until September 16th.

Now President Obama is having to do the same thing with the Transportation bill. I loved when he said “If this sounds familiar”. That was priceless. The American people had better start paying attention to what is going on. The Republican Party who have always wrapped themselves in the flag while clutching a bible are demonstrating the most unpatriotic and Un-American behavior I have seen. It is shameful.

  12. August 31, 2011 at 11:02 am

PBO seems very distracted today. I wonder what’s up. He stumbled a bit through this statement, which perhaps would have been quite easy and more passionate on any other day. Makes you think something’s underfoot. But really, every day would probably qualify as an extreme juggling act.

Interesting to see Trumka nearly jumping PBO for a hug at the end there.

I am sorry I beg to differ. I know he is mad but more so SAD. He had to sign disaster orders for states that towns no longer exist in. He has a huge heart and I know it is breaking right now. I still cannot stop thinking about the loss of life, property, and hope as these people struggle to survive in the Greatest Country on earth.

I was actually at a store this morning and while waiting in line struck up a conversation with the person in front of me. A professional nurse that had no idea what is going on in Vermont, Conn,. NY, and North Carolina. I was shocked at the blank look on her face.

These people need to pay attention to all that is going on in our country and the world. An ignorant electorate is the worse thing we have to overcome.

        • 40 Sue in Minnesota
          August 31, 2011 at 12:57 pm

I also think he is a deeply feeling and compassionate man…..I understand your point, and I absolutely believe his heart is burdened.

I see it as a culmination of all the tragedy he has continuously fought to fully respond to, repair and to course correct from. And the dispicable fact that were it not for the agenda of a very powerful few, our very real problems can be sensibly addressed, we would be making greater progress, and most importantly the real lives of Americans would be benefitting from tangible improvements. I think he is damn near super-man.

I for one think he is entitled, and mightily so to expressions of frustration and anger, which I think would mirror the nations feelings. I would support him 110% if he felt the need to express his righteous anger against the Republicans and their powerful masters on behalf of what is right, and just for Americans.

    • August 31, 2011 at 12:01 pm

Could be he’s just plain tired of back stabbers, who go on tv and run you down, but then smile in your face when they’re in your presence.

And maybe he’s upset seeing that FEMA is running low on cash, while nuts in congress who hold the purse strings threaten deeps cuts before they will help their fellow Americans.

This president certainly has a lot to feel peeved about.

To me, he’s looked like that since the day he returned from vacation. Think about it, a recalcitrant economy, natural disasters, finding and disposing of terrorists, ignorant-ass congresscritters, constant incendiary criticism from msm and CBC (who should know better), discouraging polls. I would not blame him if he said, all y’all can go straight to hell; I’m taking my family and going to Hawaii, where I can be me. Of course, he won’t but, I’d cheer him on if he did.

    Hey guys heads up:

Michelle Obama Graces the October Cover of ESSENCE

“My story to young people around this country and around the world is, Don’t look at me as the First Lady first; look at me as Michelle Obama, a girl who grew up on the South Side of Chicago. Because I was there, and this is attainable. There is no magic to this. It is hard work….”

She’s got the power! First Lady Michelle Obama graces the cover of ESSENCE’s October issue with a revealing interview highlighting ESSENCE and the First Lady’s shared commitment to women and girls around the world. In the article, “The Leading Lady,” she reflects on what she calls the “big, bright light” of her power as First Lady — and she shares her mission to impart her critical message to young women: that where she is now is attainable with hard work. She recounts her emotional trip to Africa, providing exclusive images for ESSENCE readers which document her various stops and what they meant to her personally.

The First Lady is also fêted as one of the world’s most influential Black women on the magazine’s annual ‘2011 Power List,’ which features other top-ranking African-American women such as Oprah Winfrey, Valerie Jarrett, Iyanla Vanzant, Jada Pinkett Smith, Shonda Rhimes and more. Plus, award-winning author and playwright Pearl Cleage pays a special tribute to the most recognized woman of the free world.

    Read more: http://www.essence.com/2011/08/30/michelle-obama-graces-the-october-issue-of-essence/#ixzz1WcSzo6y1

ps: Everyone should go to the Essence website. First Lady Michelle Obama looks absolutely breathtakingly gorgeous on the cover. MSNBC had a segment during Jansing and Co. with a writer or editor of Essence and she talked about the cover shoot, they showed more gorgeous pictures, she talked about how Mrs.Obama talked about her relationship with President Obama. It was really nice. The pictures they showed on TV were beautiful.

Heads up gang. Press Secretary Jay Carney (who looks like Superman’s Clark Kent since getting back from vacation) will be briefing the jackals momentarily (12:00 PM EST). I can’t wait for the gotcha question that I am sure will come from princess Norah O’Donnell. After all, she did replace the sarcastic Chip Reid. And of course, we can expect every other reporter to ask Jay what President Obama is going to say in his Jobs Plan speech. Let’s count the number of times he says you’ll just have to wait for the speech. Other than that, I expect the regular regurgitation of Republican Party talking points to dominate the briefing. If there is a real policy question i will be shocked.

  18. 67 carolyn
    August 31, 2011 at 4:48 pm

We are all especially sensitive to the President’s facial expressions, and evaluate them on how we feel about certain things at a given moment. I for one am glad to have a president who can register genuine emotions on his face. If you remember for eight years we had Howdy Doody who looked the same…blank…if Katrina arrived, the World Trade towers fell….Iraq was dismembered…..or he got a new dog. There was no deep emotion, no true feelings. Part of the discomfort of so many people is the great contrast between this president and the previous one. Too much has been put on President Obama’s shoulders, too many people have asked too much of him, but he has done so much, people expect him to leap skyscrapers with a single bound.
I am so glad that we have a president with deep, genuine human feelings. This is a rarity among politicians, and we don’t know what to make of it. He has great inner strength and he has Michele and a deep faith that balance him. He is not a grandstander, which is what we are used to. Both GWB and, dare I say it? Clinton loved the big grandstand gesture. This president does not.
