This is really fantastic and steps all over the Republican debate. HA!!

Well except for the fact that NBC will still be airing the debate at the same time (unless they change the time earlier or later). The good thing is that only a small segment of the population would be watching a republican debate (one of many) anyway so the presidential address may get some good viewership.

I do hope NBC changes the time, they are the #1 news network so it would be a shame if they weren’t able to show the presidential address live.

The Republicans don’t take their debates very seriously….Perry missed the first one, throwing his hat in the ring the day before. Sarah Palin, the presses favorite political pin-up girl will avoid them at all expense. How many people watched the last one? My understanding is they barely debate each other, but rather gang blast President Obama.

The WH press corps response is overblown hysteria.

What? Isn’t there a debate on MSNBC on that date?

      August 31, 2011 at 12:16 pm

Yep. At the same time. And they even moved it earlier from Sept. 14 to the 7th. And it’s a slap to NBC and Politico.

      From NBC’s website:

The NBC-Politico-Reagan Library GOP presidential debate has been moved from Sept. 14 to Sept. 7. “After consulting with a number of the campaigns about our September debate, we’ve made the decision to move it up one week to September 7, 2011,” said John Heubusch, executive director for the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation, in a news release. “This new date works better for the campaigns, and positions the Reagan Library debate as the first stop post-Labor Day when campaigns are in full swing and voter interest is high.”

I love it!!! Especially since one of the jackals was soooo concerned that PBO’s speech would interfere with Romney’s job proposal and Palin;s announcement that she was getting into the race. Good job POTUS!!!!

What a move, Mr. President. Take it to the American people, during “prime time.” Give it the overarching importance that only a President can give when he requests a joint session of Congress.

    Ha ha ha.

Hell to the fucking yes! It’s the same day as the Poltico/MSNBC GOP Presidential debate. President Obama doesn’t need to yell. Doesn’t need to scream. He just gives a gigantic middle finger to the GOP Media, GOPTeabaggers and Firebaggers. I love this man. All those yelling that he’s weak, he lacks a backbone and yadi yada yah need to understand that this and many more reasons is why President Obama will always be a betetr leader and politician. No wonder Jay Carney was smiling and looking like the cat that got the cream when he was asked by the wh presscorps jackals as to what day PBO was going to give his jobs plan speech. He had this secretive smile when he said I don’t know. I love it. It’s a major STFU and watch me eviscerate these a-holes! Yes!

    • August 31, 2011 at 12:23 pm

Yep, UT. He doesn’t need to scream and beat his chest. He just gets stuff done. Now if the CBC would take their little circus road show home and go back into their districts to actually help folks, they’ll get my attention.

PBO walks with a big stick and speaks softly. Is that how it goes?

      Oh, well.

      I just love this!!

It’s also a fine sign of the fact that the President was paying attention when he was involved in “Chicago politics”!!!!

I am hearing that PBO needs an invite from Boehner to come give the address there and he is saying it won’t work. He should do it on Thursday (when NFL is on).

😯 FABULOURS!! A much needed Joint Session of Congress. Prepare for a WEEK of speculation, debate, and condemnation by the Teathugs, Firebaggers, Emoprogs, PUMAS, and the CBC (whom can be included in all the Lefty anti Obama catagories 😡 ). Good for the POTUS and the Administration. Lets pray that this adress will move Congress in the right direction. I’m sure nothing will get passed before Nov. 2012, but at least we will have the economic narrative on our side. KEEP HOPE ALIVE!!! Obama/Biden 2012

That tweet from Dan Pfeiffer was just beautiful. The only thing I would added to the tweet is a “Check Please” at the end. The should get the tongues wagging overtime. Love it.

Sorry to link to Politico, but this is apparently a true copy of the President’s request to both houses of Congress to speak before a Joint Session on Sept. 7, and the only copy I could find:

My question is, what can we do to support this effort?

    • August 31, 2011 at 12:31 pm

I think our job is to inform everyone everywhere to TUNE IN to this Speech and then to follow through when POTUS asks us & Congress to give him what he’s asking for in this speech- he will ask for our participation to kick Congress into gear.. so lets have everyone we know.. and don’t know on the job of being an involved citizen. I think the JFK saying of “what can I do for my country” is something we need to be pushing to all our fellow Americans at this point.

My thought is this… has Congress ever denied a President the opportunity to speak when he’s requested an invitation? It would be much like this bunch to do just that.. is there any precedent I wonder…?

I was wondering that, too, sherijr. I’ll try to do some checking.

I think we need to spread the word. Maybe this an event to plan a house party around, OFA or less formally.
People need to tune in and they need to be prepared to act…..letters, calls, e-mails, twitters get your contacts organized ahead of time.

Hopefruit2 had a terrific idea on yesterdays post for a digital campaign….maybe it could be worked around this event, supporting the message he carries to us. It was really quite brilliant and I think would be both fun to do and easy to generate excitement around.

sherijr….I don’t know if Congress has denied a President…if they do with this President I would think they would be best advised to bend over and kiss their behinds goodbye! And if they did, we should absolutely be in the streets protesting our lack of representation, and the forces working against America.

        • August 31, 2011 at 2:48 pm

Agree with all you said Sue.. I’m on a conference call with OFA tonight, we’ll see what they have to say. But I love the idea of House Party’s for this speech- WE really need to make sure everyone tunes in to it… we can’t let the media have time to spin folks away from viewing it with their own ears and eyes.. folks wanna know who President Barack Obama is- then be there Sept 7th and LEARN 😉

  15. August 31, 2011 at 12:26 pm

Ha! Thats my President.. nothing gets past him.. Going big and going long- always. Wake up America & pay attention!

TIME for BARRACK HUSSEIN OBAMA to take NO prisoners!! HALLELUJAH!!! 😀

  17. August 31, 2011 at 12:29 pm

He said he would give Congress a chance to rise to the occasion and, if they failed, he would take it on the road and talk directly to American people. PBO talking directly to people is the president at his finest. If the clowns in Congress continue to block him, they will do so at their own peril. Nobody delivers it like Barack Obama.

Congress (Boehner) will look silly if they turn down the Prez because of a debate! i love it.

    • 44 chiara
      August 31, 2011 at 1:36 pm

He has disrespected the President so many times already that I wouldn’t put it past Boehner to do something like reject the request.

    • August 31, 2011 at 1:58 pm

If he turns it down, I’d expect the President to still have a presser/address at that date and time anyways. And given most prime time shows start gearing up, this would be the last week that the Pres. could get the network time without completely pissing them off by having to bump a season premier.

Does the VP and Speaker sit behind the Pres in joint session addresses or is that only for SOTU? Because Boehner’s poo-pooing reactions to job creating ideas would be a great visual.

I expect the GOP will demand rebuttal time – it will be interesting to see who they give it too.

  21. August 31, 2011 at 2:58 pm

I think we should call boener and Mcconell’s office as soon as congress is back just to show em that we support the presidents primer.

where is the Democrats congress? They should be on every news outlet pushing this…. Where H. Reid, N. Pelosi, CBC ? Instead, of going around whining & bitching about want not…. Now they got center stage.. Let see exactly what they do with it…. PBO have giving them the opening they been crying about along with the PL…. Let see how they use their bully pit?

How much you want bet, they do absolutely nothing, but hide behind the President?
