oh yeah, funny

“It isn’t every day that we have an earthquake in the United States.”

As of August 30, there have been 2,901 earthquakes in the United States in 2011 (USGS).

So, yes, there is an earthquake every day in the United States.

🙄

After bashing President Obama again on his foreign policy and praising Cheney, the Morning Joe crew defended Bachmann’s comment as just joking, telling people to lighten up. If President Obama had made such a “joke” we would have never have heard the end of it.

Good morning Chips and friends. It is still pretty early here in SoCal. I was listening to Bill Press (PL) radio as usual. I
I just turned off the radio because he is literally blaming PBO and the head of the FCC for taking the “Fairness Doctrine” off the books, although it was repealed by Ronald Reagan years ago. Apparently, the FCC received a letter from the repugs asking that it be taken off the books and the FCC did so. I am trying to understand why he is saying PBO and the FCC is caving, if this law has already been repealed.

More muck in the water, so early in the morning. Satan never sleeps.

      • August 30, 2011 at 10:52 am

The current FCC put a ‘final nail in the coffin’ of the Fairness Doctrine. That was the characterization used when the news broke so I don’t know why there is such a reaction from Bill Press. Looks like its just another chance to say, “Obama likes Republicans better than he does Liberals”. Trust me, behind a lot of criticism of Obama is a little child crying out for attention because they think daddy doesn’t love them.

40 people, including a newborn and a pre-teen, died during the hurricane. Perhaps Joe and Co. can call all of those families and tell them to lighten up. So disgusting.

I hadn’t heard that updated total. So very sad for all of those families. Cannot guess how the families of the newborn and pre-teen, especially, are coping with such unanticipated tragedy. The loss of children is one of the most devastating.

Quick note – Both Rupert and James Murdoch are to be called to testify again, this time under oath in front of a judge. That ole arc of justice may bend slowly, but bend it surely does.

Turned on the TV to see if anything happened overnight and the first thing I see is Kucinich complaining about Jeffrey Immelt and PBO needing to get rid of him. Also on the crawler, “Obama’s uncle arrested in Massachusetts”. All I can do is shake my head.

Good morning Chips and TOD family.

Overseasgranny, do they have a date yet for the Murdochs?

    • 18 overseasgranny
      August 30, 2011 at 8:30 am

Not yet that I know about, but as soon as a date is firm, I will let all know. The first hearing was fascinating, but this one under oath and with the names disclosed already of who ordered the hacking, Wendy may be busy protecting her husband from more pie.

I was just thinking of Wendy. I’m sure she’s been in training for the next fight – she’ll need all the strength she can muster up, when they’re hauled off to prison in front of her dazed eyes.

Thanks Overseasgranny. I thought I had done something wrong.
I just saw on my Yahoo Breaking News, “NATO spokesman: Libya job continues but ‘the Tripoli region is essentially free”.
This is great news for Libya. Tripoli was the big prize.

This was another “open mouth, insert foot” moment for Michele Bachmann. There is an endless supply of examples like this. I find her comments on the earthquake and hurricane Irene repulsive. The comments were outrageous when when she first uttered them and they only got worse when she tried to pretend she was only joking. It turned into a joke because she is thin skinned (like Sarah Palin) and she can’t handle tense scrutiny. The woman is trapped by her own ignorance. The very fact that she is a presidential candidate is an embarrassment to this country.

Thankfully she has very little chance of winning the nomination. Perry is now the candidate of the crazies.

    Bachmann is an idiot…

In the real world FEMA has thirty (30) large supply trucks arriving this morning in Vermont with aide to people in the affected areas.

I was watching The Rachel Maddow Show last night being hosted by Melissa Harris Perry (who is doing a superb job) and her guest was Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont. They talked about the absolute destruction the state has faced as a result of hurricane Irene. You could see that Senator Sanders was very distraught. My heart goes out to the people in Vermont. I am glad to hear that FEMA is on the case getting them the help and support they need from the federal government.

It was hard not to think about the way Senator Sanders has been criticizing President Obama lately. He has said he thinks it would be a good idea to primary President Obama. His state is getting needed assistance from FEMA under the leadership of President Obama. Meanwhile, the Republican Party is trying to cripple FEMA and withhold funding unless cuts are made in other agencies. And he thinks there should be a primary against President Obama?? I have lost respect for Senator Sanders.

All of the Repub candidates are an embarrassment. The fact that the media keeps pumping them and question the leadership of President Obama amazes me. They really want to dumb down America.

The MSM is an equally or even bigger embarrassment then the Republican looney tunes. They, afterall have an even bigger platform, greater exposure and influence , and the candidates depend on them to expand theirs. My disgust with them runs very, very deep.

I can understand people being upset because the economy and jobs are not doing well. What I cannot understand is blaming the President for the undermining of the economy and the deficit debacle when PBO has time and time again made suggestions and deals to appease the GOP and head us in the right direction. Can’t the public see the GOP only wants to continue to do what it was doing to get us into this situation to start with? The two analogies PBO made was we are in an ocean liner that takes awhile to turn around and you don’t want to hand the keys back to the ones that got us in the ditch to start with. The American public did just that in the 2010 elections. We are not doing better but we are worse off getting the GOP incharge of the House now. Just look at the GOP governors and their actions since getting into office too. Blaming both sides and PBO does not make any sense to me.

According to the Morning Joe crew comprising of Joe, Mika, and Nicole Wallace (worked in the communications dept under GWB) they thought this was hilariously funny. There’ve been over 27 confirmed deaths and this morning they were laughing as though Bachmann had turned into an award winning comedienne. Only John Heileman was fairly disgusted. He didn’t see anything to laugh about and he was trying to point that if anyone else had said this, oh I don’t know, a democrat or gasp! President Obama, they wouldn’t be laughing so hard and thinking it was a great joke. They all piled on him and told him he was overreaching and he was just a New Yorker who didn’t understand jokes made by an Iowan. Really? Really? This is the kind of joke they think sane Iowans make? They were just appalling. Whenever Mika(half-heartedly because when Joe confronted her she would giggle in an annoying manner and stand down) and John tried to criticize Dick Cheney(apparently he’s coming on the show) Joe would fly into in a mini rage. He was like don’t criticize someone who has been kind enough to agree to come on our show. I wholeheartedly agree with Cheney’s policies. At least he stands for what he believes in, has courage, and leadership unlike President Obama. He doesn’t care about being liked by anyone. He just does what he pleases and he’s usually right at the end. What? Cheney is correct in his policies? Hmmm….. so waterboarding was a great policy. Give yourself a pat on the back Joey the moron.

Joe then went on to defend Cheney in the nonsense he wrote about General Colin Powell. Joe said he had heard from many “dem, repub, and GWB white house sources” that Powell was two faced, that he was weak, and Cheney was right in what he wrote about Powell in his book. Riiiight….. so Cheney was correct when he made the assertion that Powell had a hand in the Valerie Plame blow up? Cheney and Scooter Libby had nothing to do with it…… yeah right. Nicole Wallace then piled on Powell and pretty much indirectly tarnished his character, his reputation and on and on and on. She compared Cheney to Jim Carey’s character in the movie Liar Liar where a spell or soemthing is cast and Jim Carey is forced to tell the truth about everything whether he likes it or not. She said Cheney is like that character and he’s simply telling the truth in his book. Right. Cheney is telling the truth about Iraq, watrboarding, Valerie Plame, Halliburton etc. and I’m the freaking Queen of England. John Heileman and Mika looked at her in shocked disbelief as if to say WTH are you talking about. Mika and John then called her out on it and said Cheney never speaks 100% truth and anyone sayng otherwise is categorically wrong. Joe then blew up and started calling them Legion (apparently legion is the name of the devil or demons or whatever in the book of Revelations in the Bible), and that they’re bitter left wing partisans and yadi yada yah. He was like I’ve never seen people who insult a former Vice President with such vile words, who show no respect for a leader and who are so cynical that they never give credit to someone where credit is due. Helloooo……. he should look in the mirror and realize he is talking about himself. Since day one he has always denigrated President Obama, put him and his accomplishments down, called him weak, oppressive, lacks a backbone, overreaching, and never given him full credit.

Problem is, no one will carry that mirror onto the show with them, which would make for good optics.

    • August 30, 2011 at 11:02 am

they are a disgusting bunch. They most certainly would have been upset if PBO made that joke and to say its an Iowan thing and you New Yorkers just don’t get it is more right wing BS.

As for Michele Bachmann’s so called joke, I was noticing some of the people behind her in the audience looking very uncomfortable as she was speaking, nary a smile on their faces. Granted some were laughing and smiling but some were definitely not.

*He was like don’t criticize someone who has been kind enough to agree to come on our show.*

This line from your recap of Morning Joke, which I can’t watch (although we should all pay attention to the trends) says it all. They are totally about (1) getting in front of the cameras; (2) getting others in front of the cameras, so everyone will see their significant others talking to them. Make that, in Dick’s case, lying to them.

Bachmann Says Earthquake and Hurricane Are Messages From Her God

The second thought that comes to mind is, what the hell do we have to listen to all this crap for? I mean, this is a political process, not a debate on theology.

Never mind for a moment why it’s silly to think that Allah (who is after all the same guy as God) caused these natural disasters but reasonable for God (the same guy with a different name) to have done it: just stop and wonder for a minute why the hell would anybody vote for these crackpots?

Then there is the frightening and dangerous issue that the mainstream media is not telling America the truth about these lunatics.

We’re surrounded by people who have walked into the 21st century direct out of the Dark Ages, and the Republicans are saying to us, vote for them! They are the answer to our country’s problems!

Wrong. If these people win, if they get into power, it will be the end of America as we have known it, the end of hope, the end of light, and a darkness on the world that may never end.

Frank Schaeffer Explains Why Michele Bachmann’s Faith is Anti-American

It’s time to wake up and call these folks what they are, which Frank just did. It’s Anti-American to hate your government, want to overthrow it, champion defunding it and threaten to secede from it. And while I won’t go so far as Bachmann did when she called for investigations into who in congress was “pro America and who is anti-America”, I will suggest that proper labeling is in order.

The far Right has tried to claim the mantle of patriotism while selling a platform of anti-Americanism. Perhaps it’s time they were called out on their linguistic shell game.

Frank knows what he is talking about, from first hand, practical experience. This particular brand of Christianity is a sham! Jesus taught us to love one another, not to divide and oppress.
